Congrats to Holt, who entered the playoffs as the #5 seed - but then steamrolled through the playoffs, posting the highest point total in each of the three playoff weeks, including a dominating 206.5 total in week 16. Once he got into the playoffs, seeding didn't matter. He'd have marched to the title from any slot.

This thread is also for a recap of all of the 2012 RIFC leagues, including the AAA leagues and the AA league. Any manager is welcome to post any post-season reflections on the season - what went well, what didn't, what lessons were learned, etc. Also, if there are any rule changes that anyone thinks should be considered for next year, please suggest them here, even if they were already mentioned elsewhere. That will make them easier to recall next summer.

I'll post the final RIFC standings in a moment, and provide links to the results of the four qualifying leagues as well.

This was an interesting year and challenging in many ways. While my late QB pickups worked out very well, waiting on an RB2 and LBs did not work out well at all. I did not hit on any of my late lottery tickets but did decently on the wire this season. And my WR futility streak continues (outside of Megatron). Lots to think about for next season.

Draft pick slot, name, position rank:

1.05 Megatron, WR3
2.10 Jamaal Charles, RB8
3.10 Hakeem Nicks, WR55
4.10 Brandon Lloyd, WR33
5.05 Aaron Hernandez, TE17
6.10 Donald Brown, RB63
7.05 Jonathan Stewart, RB58
8.10 Ben Roethlisberger,QB18
9.05 Andrew Luck, QB9
10.10 Mario Williams, DL12
11.05 Austin Collie, WR206
12.10 Elvis Dumervil, DL5
13.05 Tyvon Branch, DB47
14.10 Mason Foster, LB34
15.05 Perry Riley, LB30
16.10 Bernard Pollard, DB20
17.05 Shane Vereen, RB62
18.10 Bilal Powell,RB45
19.05 Jake Locker, QB28
20.10 Curtis Brinkley, RB104
21.05 Michael Floyd, WR95
22.10 Dexter McCluster, WR86
23.05 Shayne Graham, PK7
24.10 DeAngelo Hall, DB15

I had a lot of fun this year from the beginning of the draft to the end. This was only my second year doing the Invitational for football. Last year was a disaster mostly because I didn't really know the format and was getting back into football after 2 years off. But I used last year to prepare for this year.

I feel like I did really well most of the season, despite only a 7th seed. I felt my team was better than that. There was really just a stretch from 5-7 during very heavy bye weeks for my team that I felt like I underachieved, going 1-5 with sub 120 point weeks each time. I had a bunch of weeks where I did 135+ points where I only went 1-1. But towards the end my team kicked it into high gear going 4-0 in weeks 11 and 12 only to be 0-2 despite a good showing and a very close loss in week 13.

Playoffs hit and Cam Newton never looked back for me fully justifying his first round pick. He was the only 1st round QB in AAA to make the playoffs.

Then the playoffs hit and I had a tough road with the #3 seed Dwetz, followed by the #2 seed Twilson and finally the #1 seed in our league Smith32. But I had a regular season record of 4-2 against those 3 so I knew I could take them.

I was the highest scorer in round 1 w/ 165.46. In week 2 I was the second highest scorer at 145.04(smith was in the other bracket and beat me by only .9 points). And in the finals I had a good fight with Smith who put up 149 points, good for the 4th highest total in all post season championship play. It was a great league. All the managers were active thru the whole season. Some good talk on the boards. Nobody gave up and going into week 13 we had 10 managers with a real shot to make the post season.

If I had to go back to the beginning and do it all over the only slots I'd do different are 2.1 (just draft sproles outright instead of trading that pick for him) and my round 6 pick of michael bush. My gameplan was to go solid offense early but jump on some of the best performing defensive players a round or two before others started looking at them. It paid off. In t he championship game I scored 76.5 points from defensive players alone.

1.12 Cam Newton
Didn't look good the first few weeks. Turned into a bulldozer when it counted.

2.03 Peterson, Adrian MIN RB
Pretty good value with this one.If we knew then what we know now, he would have gone #2, right after JJ Watt.

3.03 Holt Jennings, Greg GBP WR
Was hurt most of the season. Not a good pick at all, although he did get a TD for me in the championship. Apology accepted Greg.

4.03 Bryant, Dez DAL WR
10 TD's over the last 7 games. I doubt that I'll be able to draft Dez in rd 4 next year. He's launched himself close to Megatron territory.

5.12 Greene, Shonn NYJ RB
He turned out to be better than expected (about 10 ppg) but I hardly used him due to having A Morris. Not a bad pick overall. I did start him 3 times or so.

6.03 Holt Thomas, Demaryius DEN WR Like Dez, I won't be able to draft Thomas in the 6th rd next year. He's definitely a top 10 WR with Peyton around.

7.12 Ingram, Mark NOS RB
Turned out to be a wasted pick. Hit some, miss some.

8.03 Davis, Fred WAS TE
Another miss. He was ok but got sent to the IR early in the season.

9.12 Cole, Trent PHI DE
A big dud.

10.03 Weatherspoon, Sean ATL LB
Solid but i only started him 8 games due to injuries and matchups. Not a terrible pick but not really a good one either.

11.12 Holt Lofton, Curtis NOS LB
Pretty strong in the first half. Sat on my bench in the final game though. An acceptable pick in the 11th rd but nothing special.

12.03 157. Holt Moore, Lance NOS WR
Thank the fantasy gods for this one. With Jennings out Lance Moore saw plenty of action for me. WR's are difficult to get as FA's as the season goes on. This pick saved me a lot of headaches.

13.12 Holt Tamme, Jacob DEN TE
dud

14.03 185. Holt Bradford, Sam STL QB Good enough. I got 23 pts from him on Cam's bye week. He outscored guys like Rivers and Eli Manning.

15.12 Long, Chris STL DE dud

16.03 Chung, Patrick NEP S dud

17.12 Rainey, Chris PIT RB
dud

18.03 Holt Morris, Alfred WAS RB
Where would I have finished without this pick? Not a week went by without my thanking the fantasy gods for allowing Morris to be on my roster. Thank you again. You can't ask for a better draft pick than Alfred Morris in the 18th round. If I remember correctly, my pick was coming up and I had just read that Shanahan was benching Morris in the last preseason game. I won't be able to draft Morris in the 18th rd next year!

19.12 Quick, Brian STL WR
worthless

20.03 Dent, Akeem ATL LB
worthless

21.12 Manning, Danieal HOU S
worthless

22.03 Holt Green, Alex GBP RB
He actually became the starter for a while but I didn't need him and he stunk anyway. I don't see much future in the NFL for Alex Green.

23.12 Bailey, Dan DAL PK
I must have used 6 different kickers this year.

24.03 Harrison, James PIT LB Had to cut him but I did pick him up late in the season and got some great games.

Of my last 12 picks, only Morris had any value for me at all. I could have just skipped over half of my drafts picks and it wouldn't have hurt me. Lots of clunkers, BUT, the picks of Peterson, Dez Bryant, D Thomas, and A Morris turned out to have so much value that all the clunkers didn't matter.

Of my 24 picks, 5 of them were vital to my team, 4 or so were helpful, and the other 15 made almost no difference at all. I got very little offensive help from free agents (Dallas Clark was ok), but did get almost my whole defense from FA's.

Of my FA pickups, Devin McCourty was huge. Geno Atkins was great. Jo-Lonn Dunbar kicked some butt, and I had several other valuable FA IDP's this season. My IDP crew was almost entirely built out of free agents, and it turned out to be solid enough (got 90 points from them in the final game). This affirms my belief that, while it's nice to get some good IDP's in the draft, it isn't crucial. They always present themselves as the season goes on.

Crap - I have to go Christmas shopping. Thanks as always to Guru. The invitational leagues are always the most enjoyable for me. Look forward to next season and the threat of being crushed by the gurupie competition. Merry Christmas everyone.

Hey Holt,

I rode Morris to three different league championships!!! Was very nervous during the three drafts that someone else had read that he was just put at the top of the WASH depth chart. In AAA, I grabbed him at 16.09 at 9 pm... Jumping for joy that he was still there, but not really prepared for how great he was going to be for me...

More musings about AAA later...

Morris was gold. I got a little lucky in the timing of my pick. I think everyone was expecting Royster and Helu to get their shots, but after Morris and RGIII, the next highest rushing total on the team was Royster with 79 yards. I know I wasn't really expecting Morris to get as many carries as he did.

to follow in beezer and holt's footsteps:
drafted out of the 16th slot

1.16 - cam newton. Honestly was questioning this early on as a first round pick. But by the end of the year he more than justified it. He carried me thru the playoffs

2.01 - demarco murray: immediately regretted not drafting sproles here and made a straight up offer to the guy who did draft sproles. Luckily it was taken. Sproles return yardage and use as a WR with a full backfield made him a dependable source of points

3.16 - Andre Johnson: great pick in round 3. Once he got rolling...

4.01 - Michael Turner - again, a solid pick, dependable contributor.

5.16 - Eric Decker - solid contributor most of the season.

6.01 -michael bush: dud, dud and more dud. not used in any way the bear advertised

7.14 - james laurinitis (lb): solid pick contributed all season

8.01 - Derrick Johnson (lb) solid pick contributed all season (7 and 8 picks were the cornerstone of my IDP strat)

9.14 - Charles Woodson - injury prevented a full season from him, but he did ok until then.

10.01 - Darrius Heyward-Bey: solid choice, contributed all season. Wish I had used him more

11.14 - Calais Campbell - 3 weeks w/ injury and he was still a top 6 DE. He's no JJ Watt, but who else is? Solid pick

12.01 - Greg Olsen - round 12 TE w/ 111 points on the season and a handful of big weeks. Solid

13.14 - Laurent Robinson - dud. one of the first I dropped

14.01 - Pierre thomas - safety net for any injury to sproles. And he got some use.

15.14 - Kamerion Wimbley - dud pick. didn't live up to last season's numbers.

16.01 - Steven Gostkowski - a PK at round 16? Did fine by me. He scored more than 11 players picked before him in my draft

17.14 - kevin kolb: first back up. hate to say wasted pick. I did use him once and he led me to a win that week. But he was a back up

18.01- javier arenas (idp) not on my roster at end of season, but still solid contributor most weeks. happy with this pick

19.14 - alex green: never used him when he was on my roster (GBP that is). I never used him either.

20.01 ronde barber (s) - see arenas. dropped him during a bye week shuffle. happy w/ pick, would have been happy to keep him all season

21.14 - ronnie brown: dud pick

22.01 - vincent brown: dud pick

23.14 - blaine gabbert: dud pick

24.01 - lestar jean: handcuff in case of injury to Andre Johnson. Nothing more.

I think my lack of serious injuries really helped. Yes, sproles missed a few weeks w/ a broken hand and I had a few idp's go out. But nothing earth shattering or overly serious like guys who lost gronk. That has to be one of the keys.

My season was cruising right along until I got Gronked. With Peyton Manning, AP, Roddy White, JJ Watt, and Aldon Smith (FA pick up during his bye week) putting up decent numbers on a fairly consistant basis, I though I might get by wihout Gronk's help.

And for not a gabage time TD by Steven Ridley in the NE blowout of Houston in week 14, who had already conceded the game by pulling their defensive starters, I'd have beaten the eventual champion in round one of the playoffs and I might have won the championship myself.

Needed a little more luck this year, but a fun season none the less. Happy to have earned another shot in AAA next year.

Congrats to Judy, our champion and to those advancing.

Thanks to Judy for commishing and to Guru for hosting these Invitational leagues where the competition is always top rate.

Addendum to post 9-After further review, my loss in week 14 was self inflicted.

My backup TE was Joel Dreessen who scored me a bagel in week 13, so I dropped him for and played Coby Fleener, who scored .90 points in week 14. Had I kept and played Dreessen, he'd have scored 9 points-more than enough to win the close game in week 14.

Thought it was interesting out of the 4 leagues, the winners draft picks were:

5th, 6th, 12th, 14th....

They entered the playoffs as seeds:

3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th....

RE:2

FWIW - we ran the consolation playoffs a bit different from the other leagues. The two teams who had the highest score for weeks 15 and 16 played for 9th, the next two played for 11th, and the other two played for 13th.

Well, I did indeed get very lucky in the playoffs.

In the first round, mjd’s JJ watt was held to 8 points in the loss at NEP and I got a 20 points from Wake and a garbage time TD from mr fumble man Ridley to squeak by 143.58 - 138.80. Except for Cameron (20), Mayo (11.50) and WIllis (9.00) my IDP’s were stinko (2.00, 3.50, 6.50 and 0.00). Griffin (17.90) was only average -- I think that is the game he got hurt, and so was Morris (16.60) and Colston disappointed (4.10). Mjd’s efficiency rating was 100% meaning he started all the right guys. Mine was 92.2%.

The second round, I won fair and square despite Ridley at 0.30, Harbour at 0.80 and Tynes at 0.00!!! Plus, Wake came back down to earth with 3.50. But Morris (21.30), A Brown (16.70) and Julio (21.20) were stars and Luck starting in place of the injured RGIII earned me 16.44 points. Neither Wheat nor I were very efficient: Wheat = 85.3% and me 85.9%, with both of us leaving lotsa points on the bench (44 for him and 64 for me). I had CJ (18.20 ) on my bench and he had Lloyd (19) -- they would have cancelled each other out anyway though. Final score was 141.04 to 130.4.

The championship game was another nail biter. The first issue was whether to start RGIII and hope he played the whole game or Luck vs KC. I went with RGIII because he was one of my rocks for the entire season and he played just OK (14.32 -- his season average was 21.71). IAC had some bad luck with Foster’s heart issues (0.90) and that was probably the difference. The final score was only 152.22 to 141.56. He had five guys on his bench who out played his starters and I had four. His efficiency rating was 91.4% but mine was a lousy 80.6% so I got really lucky to win that one. IAC had only 50.26 points on his bench while I had 101.90 points sitting there.!!

So all in all, I was lucky to win the playoffs...but I’ll take it. And a trip to the big boys where I hope I am luckier than last time when all my early picks got injured and I ended up in last place -- embarrassing…
