Not sure this came as out of the blue as I would think,
Article I just read said Pat Haden was waiting for him when the team returned from Arizona. |

I agree that it isn't surprising, but I also think it was inevitable for the program. I don't like Kiffin, but the scholarship restriction was a much bigger deal then most people most people think. The problem was the effects of the penalty weren't going to be felt the first few years, but are being felt in full effect now. One of the biggest advantages that powerful football programs is the ability to recruit as much talent as possible and have 2-3 potential back-ups for most positions. The bowl ban didn't really show USC down, the scholarship restriction did. That and Kiffin. It doesn't help that Kiffin was a jerk to the media. And it doesn't really matter when you are winning. When you don't win the media is happy to repay you buy burying you and helping you out the door.
The first reports were that Kiffin had been relieved of duties. Now that has changed to fired. I'm sure this is part of the language of the contract, but why fire what is probably your most expensive employee who is going to get paid to not work. Relieve him of duties and stick him in a closet to watch film or help the next coach prepare. Or make him mop the locker floor at nights.

He got fired int he parking lot. Classic. Couldn't have happened to a better guy. Things have been handed to him on a silver platter--despite how bad he is--simply because of his father. He is an egomaniac. Karma.
