Rationale thread is now complete. Thanks to all.

For this year's IR slot, a player must be designated on MFL.com as being on the IR. Suspended or otherwise inactive players are not eligible.

I'm not sure if MFL has designated anyone as being on IR yet.

Awesome, Rice cut, completely screws my team. If there was a small chance at the time that this could have happened then I wouldn't have touched him, but that wasn't the case. He's a scumbag for punching her, but I'm still pissed my team is now ruined because of this super delayed action.

I just want to make sure I am setting up the waiver right (as I do so each year). If I am looking to add 4 players here's how I have it set up (with names and dollar amounts obviously fake)

My goal would be to win Montana, Waters, Monk and Sanders and if I win all four I would drop in order Greene, Tatum, Newsome, and Stauback. If I only win three then I would drop Greene, Tatum and Newsome, and etc.

Add Joe Montana, QB, SF $50 Drop Joe Greene, DL, PIT
Add Rickey Waters, RB, SEA $35 Drop Joe Greene, DL, PIT
Add Rickey Waters, RB, SEA $35 Drop Jack Tatum, DB, OAK
Add Art Monk, WR, WAS $20 Drop Joe Greene, DL, PIT
Add Art Monk, WR, WAS $20 Drop Jack Tatum, DB, OAK
Add Art Monk, WR, WAS $20 Drop Ozzie Newsome, TE, CLE
Add Deion Sanders, DB, ATL $10 Drop Joe Greene, DL, PIT
Add Deion Sanders, DB, ATL $10 Drop Jack Tatum, DB, OAK
Add Deion Sanders, DB, ATL $10 Drop Ozzie Newsome, TE, CLE
Add Deion Sanders, DB, ATL $10 Drop Roger Stauback, QB, DAL

I think those are OK as long as you set up each set of adds as a separate group.

So Group 1 would be:
Add Joe Montana, QB, SF $50 Drop Joe Greene, DL, PIT

Group 2 would be:
Add Rickey Waters, RB, SEA $35 Drop Joe Greene, DL, PIT
Add Rickey Waters, RB, SEA $35 Drop Jack Tatum, DB, OAK

Groups 3 and 4 would be for Monk and Sanders, respectively.

To elaborate, groups are first sorted by the $value of the top active item in the group. So in this example, you'd get Montana if your bid of $50 is the highest for him. If not, that bid is ignored.

The next bid group to be evaluated would be Waters at $35 (sequence of groups is determined by the $ value of the top active bid amount, not the group #). If anyone bid higher than $35 for Waters, then that group will be ignored. If $35 is the top bid, then Greene will be dropped if you still have him, otherwise Tatum will be dropped.

Etc., etc.

Once a bid is accepted in a group, then the rest of that group is ignored. That's why you must set this up in four separate groups. If all of those bids were consolidated in a single group, then you'd get (at most) one player, dropping Greene.

BTW, I think there may be other ways to set up the same intended result, but this seems like the simplest to understand.

If a manager adds a player who is already designated as IR at the time of his pickup (either through priority claiming or free agent pickup), that team must keep the player on its active roster until the following week. Players who are already designated as IR when drafted are not subject to this limitation, and may be placed in the IR slot immediately after the draft.

Looks like Kyle has to keep Long on active roster for the week now.

I'm assuming Navorro Bowman is not eligible for an IR slot since the niners have him on PUP instead of IR. Is this correct?

Well it looks like Monday Night is going to make me and DPR sweat. Based on some of the projections I've seen for my 4 remaining players I should expect to finish with a range of 127-137. The higher end sure would be nice, so I can factor in some adjustments. If I pull out another 2-0 week I should be a virtual lock for the playoffs and another year in the big boys league :D (My only goal each year)

Alright guys, since we're basically 1/3 of the way through the season I thought I'd whip up my fancy charts that I try to do every year, but end up doing like twice and then get too busy to complete. This year I've done some more automation in my excel sheets so it might be easier for me to do. (Well that and the fact that my wife works Saturdays, so I'm home alone left to ponder fantasy football)

For a reminder, in the WR spot I use your top 2 scoring WRs for the week, for the TE I use your top scoring TE for the week and for W/T I use the remaining player. For IDP I do the same process for the 3 IDP position and take the 7th person who is left. So if you start 3 WRs and 3 LBs every week your W/T is the lowest scoring WR and the IDP is the lowest scoring LB.

For OFF, that's a total of your offensive positions+kicker. DEF is just the IDPs.

I had one the biggest manager errors I can recall. Because of the dreaded Q's next to Johnson and Freeman before the Thurs game, I took them out of the lineup, in case they were out and I didn't make it home in time to change it. (I work until 6pm local time and the game starts at 6:25.) So of course they play but I don't see it until 6:35. Losing Johnson cost me 10 points and a win. My team is better than I think it is though - still in that 8th spot for now. I have to stop comparing this team to my team from last year, which was the best team I've ever had.

One of the things I've noticed this season is that scoring seems down, so I started comparing positions from this year to last. Offense is pretty much the same, maybe just a tick up, but IDP's are significantly down this year.

I looked at the top 100 IDP's. in 2013 they scored 5204 points collectively through week 6. This year that number is down to 4610 points. That's almost 600 points difference, or 6 points per player.

However, there have been more bye games so far this year (we had a 6-team bye in week 4), so that accounts for some of that difference. On a per-game basis IDP's are still down - 8.11 this year vs. 8.97 last year. This doesn't seem like that much, but a 0.86 per game difference is 6 points per week for each team. That is pretty significant.

I ran a similar study for G24 scoring and the numbers were similar.

So what can explain this? Penalties are up, especially for illegal contact and defensive holding, and that has an impact, because more penalties means less plays that end in defensive points for IDP's. Generally, more plays = more points.

Another minor effect might be some high-scoring players being out this year, Only 8 IDP's are averaging 10 pts or better per game this year, compared to 28 last year, and of those 28, 8 of those players are FA this year. 16 of the top 35 scorers from last year are FA this year. That seems like a high turnover rate.

With the second highest PF my team has obviously been good this year, but I've also been quite lucky. Here's a few ways I've been lucky.

1. Seven times I could have faced a team who optimized their line up and lost. The average team has 3 games they would have lost. So I could very well be 6-8, but realistically based on this I should probably be 10-4.

2. Teams average 3.6 points LESS per game when they face me. I've won 2 games by less than 6 points. Seems like those are games I could have very easily lost as well.

3. I have faced teams when they scored their worst season score twice already this year. I've only faced someone who put up their best score once.

Needless to say I need one more win to essentially secure a playoff spot. Only 3 times in RIFC history has the 6 seed had more than 14 wins (15 twice and 16 once). I'm ready for my team's total collapse and I really am looking forward to my first round exit!

I just can't get anything going with my team this year. I'm still one spot out of the playoffs but the gap widens every week. My only hope is that the top six scorers get the top six spots, and that I can average perhaps 135 ppg the rest of the year.

Record, then points for the top 6 spots. Highest points not in top 6 for 7th and 8th. You need to outright win the 5th or 6th spot on record, which requires alot of help. If you do that, I am out, so please don't!

Here's how I see the playoff picture shaping up

1. Kyle- Clinched 1 seed (Will go 1-1 this week)
2. Twilson- Clinched 2 seed (Will go 1-1 this week)
3 and 4. Bonka and Wheatfamers- Clinched playoff spots based on record (15-11 for each)

This is where things get murky because we have 4 games that according to my predictions will finish within 5 points (and I don't like call a game unless I have a margin of 10 points)

Holt vs. Nerfherders Holt wins by 4.42
YWK vs. Guru YWK wins by 2.86
Fugazi vs. Holt Holt wins by 0.88
Fugazi vs. dpr dpr wins by 3.42

5. YWK will be in the playoffs regardless of record due to points according to my projections.
6. TD will be in the playoffs regardless of record due to points according to my projections.

So that leaves 2 spots left.

The only way dpr can make the playoffs is by record. According to my projection they're the lowest scoring team in a playoff hunt.

Fugazi can make it either through points or record. They would need to win both their game to be in via record, but if they do not they should be in the playoffs as the top remaining scoring team (#8 seed most likely).

IAC can only make it through based on points. They need Bonka, Wheatfarmers and TD to make it though via record and DPR to be eliminated from the top 6.

According to my projections the following teams are eliminated:
Nerfherders
Guru
Holt
SANFORDORS
Slackjawed Yokel

If I was to trust these projections down to the point (which the Fugazi-Holt match up is coming down to 0.88 points so take that with a grain of salt) this is how the playoffs would line up.

1. Kyle (20-6) vs. dpr (14-12, 1583.3 PF)
2. twilson (17-9) vs. Bonka (15-11, 1717.32 PF)
3. YWK (15-11) vs. Fugazi (12-14, 1770.76 PF)
4. Wheatfarmers (15-11) vs. TD (13-13, 1854.04)

Bonka would slip to the 7 seed in this scenario based on a 2-2 record vs YWK and Wheatfarmers (they all went 2-2 against each other) and the lowest of the three's PF. They slip to the PF seeding portion of the bracket and with Fugazi and TD being higher they would be 7 despite a superior record.

Looks like Fugazi is in either way. One of them TD, or YWK have to be in based on record, with the other two taking the point positions.

If I lose my matchup to Fugazi (or Jarvis Landry lays an egg) I would be out and an additional points position would open up (IAC)

Playoff brackets have been seeded.

Championship bracket:
Top 6 teams are selected by W/L record. The other two teams are the two remaining teams with the highest point total.

Seeding for the top four teams is by standings. The 5-8 seeds are based on points. So even though dpr qualified as the 6th team based on standings, he is the #8 seed in the playoffs.

Consolation bracket:
The remaining six teams are seeded based on standings. The losing team with the best score in the first round will also advance to round two. Reseeding may be needed to avoid a duplicate matchup in that round.

Add/drop:
Teams active in the Championship bracket may continue to make waiver claims and add/drop transactions. Teams no longer active in the Championship bracket are stuck with the roster they have.

Schedule:
Because stats corrections are not posted until Thursday morning, and because those corrections can influence playoff results or matchups, blind bidding is moved to 3pm ET on Thursday starting this week. FCFS adds begin at 6pm ET on Thursday.

Blind bidding $: The top seed gets an extra $16 added to his/her blind bidding balance. The second seed gets an extra $14, #3 gets $12, etc. These amounts are added to any balances that survived the regular season.

Looks like dpr got in anyways so it's all moot.

Not only that, but the lowest scoring team in the league and gets into the playoffs on record. That has to be a first. That's like the 2014 Raiders finishing 10-6.

Now watch him run the table!

Wow - stats correction were just processed, and it flipped the result of one game. YWK got an extra 3 points (Von Miller), giving him a win over me for a 15-11 record, moving him from the #6 seed up to the #3 seed.

The eight teams in the championship bracket did not change, just the seeding. I'll make those playoff seeding adjustments momentarily.

Seedings are now updated. YWK moves from #6 to #3. Bonka drops from #4 to #7. Other teams shift to fill the gaps.

Look at that. My prediction model came true. I didn't see that one coming, thanks stat correction :P

Run in to Bell and start all the wrong guys. I'd say it was fun, but after losing my 1st, 4th, and 5th round picks, it really wasn't.

My playoff run could be ending in the similarly frustrating fashion. Just did not deserve any win as what I have been going through in the regular season I guess. At least I might be able to stay in the big boy league to start next year.

[50-51] Interesting to see how the late stats corrections for week 13 changed the playoff results.

Actual round #1 winners:
Kyle
twilson
Fugazi
Toral

But if the seeding had not been revised, it would have been:
Kyle
twilson
YWK
TD

Fugazi would have lost to twilson, 186-176. That would have been a tough loss.

Then again, YWK would have avoided his tough loss to Fugazi (176-162)

As it turned out, we have seeds 1,2,4, and 6 surviving to round 2. That's about as "chalky" as we've had in some time.

I should have looked at who owned Ellington before bidding. I thought $10 would be enough to get him but I didn't realize Toral had Ellington. I don't know if I would have gone over $17 for him, but I would have put more than $10 and not felt dumb after seeing the results.

Well that was a good run for my team, too bad the magic wore off in week 15. But Toral exacted his revenge and I guess the mantra is true, it's tough to beat a team 3 times in one season. Without DeMarco I don't think my team would have done much this week anyway.

Finally a run of good luck. Confirming my theory -- the secret of fantasy football is not in picking good players but in "picking" a good schedule -- good fantasy football defence as I call it; make sure you "give up" fewer points than your opponents do.

But as 23-point underdogs, it looks like my run is at an end :(

Kyle, I was hoping for one last point chart. As my QBing was mediocre, my RBs inconsistent, my WRs poor and my TEs horrendous, I was wondering just where I was scoring points.

I'll work on it this weekend Toral. I think it'll show how crazy my RBs were this season, because Demarco and Forsett surprised even me.

Congrats to twilson on the win.

At least i left no points on the bench, which is all I could do.

Glad I didn't stay up to watch this one.
