Lots of upsets this week:

#2 Oregon goes down against unranked Arizona
#3 Alabama loses to #11 Mississippi
#4 Oklahoma loses to #25 TCU
#6 Texas loses against #12 Mississippi State
#17 Wisconsin loses to unranked Northwestern
#18 BYU lost big to unranked Utah State

In addition, #9 ND barely over #14 Stanford.

Should be a lot of shuffling in the rankings.

So essentially, pre season polls do nothing more than artificially impact later assessments.

Case in point. Texas A&M was an early season darling, after beating South Carolina. South Carolina has since lost to Missouri (who lost to Indiana) and Kentucky (who hadn't won an SEC game in nearly 2 years).

Another example Arizona goes from unranked to top 10.

The first and most compelling of the many conference championship games tonight with Oregon v. Arizona.

The ACC and Big 10 games are both better than the SEC championship match because Mizzou is simply not that great a team (they lost to frickin' Indiana! at home!). I would say that the Baylor v. KState game is more important than the SEC match. It sure would be funny to see Mizzou upset Bama because if OSU, FSU, TCU, Oregon and Baylor all win, I would imagine Bama would drop to fifth, leaving the SEC out of the first playoffs. That would be hilarious.

The media makes the SEC out to be tougher than Chuck Norris. Good conference but not as good as they are made out to be.

Going to be a shame if they leave Ohio State out given how impressive they have been all season (VT not withstanding) and the whooping they are putting on Wisconsin with their third string QB.

Oregon's only win outside of conference worth discussing is the close win over Michigan State and the Buckeyes beat them soundly. So go ahead and make sense out of that. The committee just has it out for the Big 10, nothing more.

Buckeyes will be forced to play Arizona as the #2 team in the PAC 12 in the Rose Bowl most likely. I'm betting they'll stomp em.

Simple solution is 8 teams, five power 5 champs, three champs from other conferences. If you arent conference champ you dont go...that simple.

They are almost certainly going to go to 8 teams.

Ironically, the Seminoles are making the same argument that Ohio State was making just a few years ago: Sure, they win ugly, and get behind in many games and so forth. But in the end they win.

I meant, 8 teams next year.

I don't want 8 teams. I don't want Two Loss teams playing for the title. I just think we'll have the same problem with teams #9 and #10 bitching all the same that they got left out. So keep it more exclusive.

Guess not. Maybe you meant Big 12... :)

Horrible idea. That would be much like the BCS crap but even worse. Would you really want the champ of the American Conference or the WAC or some other second tier invited over the second place team of a good conference?

When I look at the March Madness I really dont care who gets in and who doesnt.
The question is are the top 32 teams a part of the 64? If yes then be quiet if you didnt make it. Spend your complaining time by practicing more and maybe you will make it next season.

Applying the same approach to football my only question is are the best two teams in the playoffs?
Clearly Alabama, Oregon, and Florida State can stake a claim as a top 2 team.
If we were using the prior year BCS rules it would have been a disaster as someone who should have been in the championship game would have been left out.

I really dont care about the whinny babies from Baylor and TCU. Play a tougher schedule or win all of your babycake games and maybe we will listen.

When the playoffs expand to 8 teams we should be 100% certain that the top 4 are in the playoffs and have a shot at the national title.

OSU vs Oregon. Should be a high scoring game.

LOL at Alabama, who invited them? Oregon will probably put up 70 on Ohio State, but they would have dropped 120 on the Tide.

SEC looked mighty average. TCU should finish the season third, they whummped the SEC's supposedly third best team.

Auburn lost five games. That gets you, what ever your name is, coach, fired, even if you have won a national championship, which you haven't.

I didn't see much of the Baylor v. MSU game, but I did see one poor, young idiot shove a Spartan in the back during an interception return. The kid pushed a fat lineman who was five to ten yards behind the ball, he would never catch him. What the flying hell could the Baylor dumbass be thinking? That penalty brought back a touchdown, Baylor didn't score and choked the game away. In a fraction of a second I would argue that you completely obliterated any good thing you did for Baylor, pissed it away. Stunning.

As much as I like pointing at the SEC and laughing this season, can't bring myself to do it to LSU, they were robbed. The Holy See must have been twisting some arms.

How bout that SEC?! Nobody better than those guys! a league of their own! Alabama, Auburn, Miss St., Ole Miss, LSU... who did i miss?

I'm sure the narrative will be that they are all so great they just wore each other out all season so they were too tired at this point.

Great game last night. Somehow Ohio State's defense keeps the Ducks from turning turnovers into points, the Duck receivers get butterfingers on the biggest night of the season, and the Buckeye lines just grind it out.

Nice to have a non-SEC Championship as well. A little parity is good for college football in my opinion.

<8> I absolutely would prefer that, if you aren't a conference champ who cares if you didn't get included, you had your chance to win your conference, STFU. The Rose Bowl was for years the PAC-10 vs the BIG-10 champ in a PAC-10 home game (we didnt mind the spot too much). Was a great model to expand on.

Anyway, they could seed the non power 5 conference champs lower and higher seeds just get an easier game (perhaps). You wont get teams like Boise State or TCU (pre-Big 12) complaining then, they get their chance. As for Notre Dame, join a conference if you want to participate, otherwise STFU.

If a conference doesn't want to crown a champ, guess they dont get to play. Sucks to be them (sorry TCU, but you would not have been crowned champ having lost head to head, and your Baylor boyfriends got stomped by a Big 10 team, albeit it in the Who Cares Bowl that's hard to get up for).

BTW fellas, there are still no demolition plans for the Hall of Fame in Canton. Best SEC coaches in recent years:

Les Miles, Michigan Alumni, high school in Ohio
Nick Sabin, Kent State Alumni, Buckeye assistant coach
Urban Meyer, Buckeye for life
