RIFC Managers - You are each invited (although not required) to post your general reflections on the completed draft. Comments may be as detailed or as general as you wish. As a catalyst, free free to comment on any of the following:

1. What was your plan/strategy entering the draft? Were you able to execute as you had planned?

2. What were your favorite picks? Which do you wish you could do over?

3. Looking over all of the teams, which ones do you like the most (other than your own)?

4. What surprised you most about the draft?

5. If you could start over, would you do anything differently?

Non-managers are also welcome to post general comments on the draft, and to raise questions.

1. What was your plan/strategy entering the draft? Were you able to execute as you had planned?

I’ve been at this for a long time (since 2004) so my strategy is more or less to try to follow my gut and avoid making picks that I don’t like. I considered the new rule of enabling a team to go down to 1RB during the bye weeks to be quite devaluating to RBs, so I think I valued WRs more than in previous years (no RB-RB-RB strategy this year). Also in previous years, I tried to get in front of IDP runs by grabbing a couple from around the 5th or 6th round on. This year, I wasn’t as sold in the separation between the top tiers, so I decided against taking IDPs early. I’ve always felt a bit of affinity to drafting a couple guys who are return men as well… because as long as they can keep their job, and stay healthy, then it adds an extra level of consistency, and raises the scoring ceiling of the player.

I got a few return men, I held off in grabbing IDP till late in the draft, I didn’t follow runs, and I got a lot players that I’m really excited about their potential upside with. Felt like a team that I’m team happy to go into the season with.

2. What were your favorite picks? Which do you wish you could do over?

Favorite Picks
Morris/Breida @17.14/18.01 - It’s really unfortunate when injuries happen, especially to top level RBs, but this opened up huge value on these two guys.
Lockett @ 6.01 - A little bummed that I don’t have Tyreek Hill this year, but Lockett pleases me almost as much. He got paid like they plan on using him a LOT.
Burton @7.14 - Another guy who got paid, and the expectations are high… but the price was reasonable I think.
Peppers @ 12.01 - A starting Strong Safety who can bring extra value with return yardage. Has the ability to outscore Adoree Jackson.

3. Looking over all of the teams, which ones do you like the most (other than your own)?

All teams in this league should be competitive, but I favor:
Guru - He knows the system / scoring better than pretty much anyone. Has almost as many of my targeted picks as I do.
Swinganamiss - Looks like a solid team with lots of upside.

4. What surprised you most about the draft?

That there was still a fair bit of WR value still available going into the last round? Considering the RB bye week rule change… I think we probably undervalued WRs.

5. If you could start over, would you do anything differently?

Definitely not, I got a lot of my targeted players, expecting to be able to have a lot of fun watching games / looking up boxscore results this year.

1. What was your plan/strategy entering the draft? Were you able to execute as you had planned?

I usually like to get offensive players first--ideally 2 RB, @WR and QB and then start thinking Defense mixed in with filling out offensive starters.

Suspecting a run of RB, I was lucky to get one of them in th first round. I used first 6 picks for offense including filling a TE position which normally do not do until later rounds. Deciding on second running back most difficult.

2. What were your favorite picks? Which do you wish you could do over?

Favorite Picks
Dalvin Cook and S. Diggs and E. Griffen since they are Vikings and can root for home team.

Do over:
Redo picking 3rd WR earlier instead of DE (too early)
Not drafting 2 S/CB with same bye week.

3. Looking over all of the teams, which ones do you like the most (other than your own)?

No teams jump out as must have but:
Slackyawed Yokel,
Wiggs if offensive RBs okay;
Guru but not sure about 4 QB;
SwingandMiss looks intersting

4. What surprised you most about the draft?

How quickly some of top Def players got picked up. I think it shows the realization that defenders can make a big difference in weekly scores

5. If you could start over, would you do anything differently?

Not really. In 20/20 based on where some players were picked ultimately might have waned to change pick. Most times it fun to see how picking trends influence what position you pick especially where I have 2 picks close and not another for a long time. Next time, I think I would pick a more central draft position than 13th.
