11.13 Bernard Pollard, DB, Hou

It seems the evil day can be put off no longer and I will have to pick an IDP. Pollard is the top ranked DB in a number of projections and highly ranked in others. It’s hard to imagine his being this good in that last year Kansas City just first benched and then released him; but then Houston picked him up and he proved to be the tackle machine that he always is at strong safety. The Texan DB coach is quoted as saying that he’ll be surprised if Pollard isn’t a Pro Bowl safety this year. Good for 100+ tackles.

12.02 Dan Connor, LB, Car

The linebacker ranks have really been stripped while I’ve been tarrying. As a first-year starter he is a risk but he inherits Beason’s middle linebacking slot and should rack up 85+ tackles under their scheme.

13.03 Chad Henne, QB, Mia

Time for a backup QB and Henne and Cassel were the two I was looking at. Stafford is gone and I can’t count on both of these two lasting till my next picks. The Fish opened up their offence late last year and averaged the 5th most yards per game in their last 5 games. PFW on Henne…”Arm strength definitely isn’t a worry with Henne. Last season, he demonstrated that he was capable of squeezing the ball into places where only [undrafted player] could draft it….The off season move to replace [undrafted player] with Marshall…might well have been the single greatest roster upgrade made by any NFL team.”

14.02 Dallas Cowboys, DEF

I’ve always found assessing team D’s highly mystifying. Teams like [undrafted player] will come out of nowhere and lead the league like last year. But I thot I’d compare some projections and start thinking about whether there was a solid one worth picking in the next round or two. There were some mid-ranked ones still available, but then I wondered… I didn’t remember anyone picking Dallas, which was very highly ranked. Checked and sure enuf it was just sitting there. Maybe a lot of Cowgirl haters here except for Taxman? Picked 12.10 RIFC, 12.07 AAA…. Probably more worthwhile than reaching into the bag of linebackers….

15.13 Oshiomogho Atogwe, DB, StL

We’re now getting into the area where the top DBs left are projected to score about as many points as the top LBs left.

Scheduled as a double IDP pick. Weirdly, to me anyway, the top 2 on my list were selected by slowhand (Will Smith 15.10) and TD (Tyvan Branch 15.12) just before me. IDP lists vary a lot in the area we’re in so that struck me as odd. Atogwe was hurt last year but puts up good tackled for a FS and some interceptions when healthy.

11.03 Derrick Mason, WR BAL

Mason just keeps chugging along, despite not being highly thought of in fantasy. He's good for 1000 yards receiving almost every year. Of course age is eventually going to catch up with him, I am hoping for one more season before it does. My WR corps is solid, but old, so I was hoping in future rounds to bolster it with young backups.

12.12 Gary Brackett, LB IND

LB's were flying off the board fast and furious, so alot of the ones I had targeted were gone by this pick. I could have probably held off on this pick (and now wish I had) but I panicked a bit and took Brackett, who is solid, but not spectacular. You pretty much know what you are going to get with him.

13.03 Chicago Bears, DEF

This is where I wish I had not selected Brackett where I did. The only time so far I set up a queue, and there was really only one player I wanted with 3 spots to go: Braylon Edwards. I threw in the Bears defense as a second option but was pretty confident I would get Edwards there. Not to be. I ended up with the Bears defense, while not a bad choice, probably could have gotten similar value later in the draft. Last year I drafted my first DEF in the 21st round and was fine.

14.12 Danny Amendola, WR STL

Still stewing over not getting Edwards, I still needed a WR but didn't like any of the available options. So it was time to think outside the box. Amendola had 350 yards receiving last year and was the 28th best WR in our league. Why? return yards. Think of him like Josh Cribbs, Jr. He averaged a whopping 10 pts per game in 2009. So all I hope is that he keeps the return job, and he will be a suitable backup for any week. If he gets more looks at WR, all the better.

15.03 Kyle Orton, QB DEN

This pick was going to be used for a QB as long as one of Orton, Garrard, Campbell, or Cassel were still available. I am hoping (praying) that I will only need a backup for week 7, so looking at the matchups, I liked Orton's the best at home against Oakland. Strangely, all four of these QB's play eachother in week 7. I think Orton will have a good season for the Broncos, as he did last year, so even if catastrophe strikes, I won't loose too much. I think there is alot of thought the rookie is going to battle him for playing time, but everything I've read seems to indicate this is Orton's show this season.

11.01 Darelle Revis, DB, NYJ-Revis has received a tremendous amount of hype on WFAN, the NY sports talk radio station. NY media has him as All World and the best defensive player in the NFL. I fell victim to the hyperboles and drafted him even though he is holding out and conceivably might not play in 2010.

12.14 Chad Greenway, LB, Minn-Greenway was my 3rd IDP picked in a row. Unless I a player with outstanding value became available, I planned on using early middle round picks to complete my defense.

13.01 Alex Smith, QB, SF-I deviated from my plan to choose IDPs with these middle round picks by drafting Smith. Smith is not only a good bye week QB, but with his receivers he could put up good numbers if Romo gets injured.

14.14 Chris Long, DL, StL-This was supposed to be Will Smith, but I misread a report and thought that Smith was ineligible this season. After Smith I thought that Long was the best DL available and a better way to go than the remaining LBs and DBs.

15.01 Geno Hayes, LB, TB-As a rookie Hayes had 98 tackles plus a few sacks, INTs and PDs thrown. If he can build on his rookie season, he could be a defensive sleeper.

11.09 Mike WIlliams WR TB

After making a mess out of the previous pick I needed to recoup a WR to help DJax. Williams is a rookie doing nice things down in TB. Although it is not a pass happy offense, he will be give the opportunity to do well as the WR1. He needs to keep his head on straight though.

With this round, Coldwater began a run of stealing my players right out from under me. I had targeted Cooley for here and using a 2 TE offense as Finley will really be a slot player. But no.

In actuality had I been thinking straight, I should have grabbed a decent RB2/3 or Hightower whom I really wanted and almost got, but Coldwater stole him away 2 picks before it was my turn.

12.06 Stewart Bradley LB PHL

Bradley is now healthy and will be the MLB for the Iggles defense. I expect nothing less than 100 TK from him. He is low on a lot of lists due to his injury, but he seems fine -- he got injured almost a year ago, so should be fully healed. He will be in the center of a swarming Iggles defense and should match or exceed his 2008 rookie stats.

13.09 Mike Thomas WR JAX

I needed another RB at this point as I only have two. I could not believe that Hightower had not been taken and figure -- whoa - he’s mine, but then it was Coldwater’s turn... And D Brown and T Jones were taken by footwedge in between my picks. I honestly have no idea why I made this pick as I have been busy with an ill Dad. Clearly he was on a list I made at some point -- have I mentioned that this draft is going way too fast for me?

Just found my notes -- he is also a KOR and PR possibility, so that must be why I drafted him?

I really needed an RB here as I still have only two.

14.06 Eric Berry DB KC

I had Q’d up Henne, Woodley, and Collie -- figuring any one of them would work out somewhere in my line up. They all got scooped up.

So then it became time to forget about the offense for a while -- it stinks and won’t get any better with the choices that are left. I will need some injuries and clever WW pick ups to compete there.

So I decided to turn to the IDP lists and looked for a DB just to get some points. Even as rookie, Berry seems to be doing very well for KC and for sure they will be on defense a lot giving him plenty of opportunities to make plays. He is generally listed as a top 5/10 DB with an expectation of 115 points this season.

15.09 Matt Moore QB CAR

Now it is time for a back up QB. Hopefully Moore and Smith will hook up early and often in their game vs Tampa Bay in week 10 while Brees is resting up. I’ll take 15 - 20 points.

11.12 Ravens Defense
I was surprised the Ravens defense lasted this long, and was pleased to get them with this pick. They were the 4th ranked defense last season in this format, and 8 defenses were already chosen. They are not the Ravens defense of a few years ago, but I don't see them slipping that much as long as Ray Lewis remains their leader.

12.03 Matthew Stafford, QB DET
I wanted a servicable backup QB in case Matt Ryan is injured. I thought most of them would be gone by the time I picked next. I also considered Chad Henne, and I would have been able to get him with my next pick, so I may have been better off taking a 3rd RB. The RBs I was considering, Tomlinson, Donald Brown, and Thomas Jones were all gone by my next pick. I expect Staffords numbers to improve in his 2nd season. Having a viable running back in Javid Best should take some pressure off of him.

13.12 Ray Edwards, DL MIN
There is a scarcity of DL in this league that can be counted on to be productive, and I wanted to get one before they were all gone. Edwards was the ranked 6th in DL last season in this format. He plays opposite Jared Allen which should help his numbers as he won't be double teamed that often. Only 25 years old, he should be entering his prime.

14.03 Ernie Sims, LB PHI
Sims production dropped last year because of injuries. The former 1st round pick has played great during Eagles training camp. Several times Eagles coaches have had to tell Sims to stopping hitting so hard because he could injure Eagle offensive players. I expect a big season out of Sims.

15.12 Tyvon Branch, DB OAK
Branch was the number 5 performing DB in this format last season. Branch led all NFL safeties in tackles last season. I expect his numbers to be similar this season.

11.10 Jerod Mayo LB NE
I really need to get to work on my IDPs; I feel every year I wait too long to pick them. I drafted Mayo last year and with an injury costing him 3 games he did not live up to his 100 solo tackle 2009 Def rookie of the year billing. However after only missing those 3 games with grade3 MCL sprain he came back to notch 5 0r more solo tackles in 9 of his final 11 games.I think people may be sleeping on him this year and I fully expect a top 10 year.

12.05 LaDainian Tomlinson RB NYJ
I can't help but think I got a bit of a ssteal here. I fully planned on taking one of the 5or 6 LBs that went right after him (I had Harrison in mind) I couldn't pass on LT. I know he's over 30,he's 2nd string, but jeez 2 or 3 years ago he went 1st in every draft.A bit of a flyer maybe but if Green gets hurt or fails to perform I don't think a top 10 finish or near that is out of the question.

13.10 Nick Barnett LB GB
After a huge LB run since my last pick I wanted to get at least 1 more good one (I would have taken Charles Woodson here if the linebackers wouldn't have been flying off the board) . Barnett is a consistent performer on a Packer Def that I think will be improved from last year. I may have taken him a bit early but the Packer logo gets him a couple of rounds.

14.05 Austin Collie WR IND.
I haven't heard a lot positve from his pre-season but any Colts WR is worth taking a flyer on...besides with the Rice surgery I'm still a little weak at WR.

15.10 Will Smith DE NO.
Last year he posted a career high 13 sacks (5th in the league) and finished as a top 10 fantasy lineman 2 of the last 3 years. There were some possible suspension issues this off season but it appears he'll be okay and I expect another top 10 year from him.

11.04 Kirk Morrison, LB, JAC

I considered him when I got Dansby. He's moving over to a very tough conference and should be able to rack of the tackles. This should keep his weekly point total consistently good.

12.11 James Harrison, LB, PIT

Again how is this guy still here for me? I considered him in the last two rounds when looking at LBs and when I came up again and he was still here, it was a no-brainer. He doesn't always have super-high tackle numbers, but he will pick up sacks and turnovers that can spike his point total. A really nice find this late in the draft.

13.04 Darren McFadden, RB, OAK

Now I realize that this guy has never come close to living up to his potential and in this horrible outfit, err team, that he has to play on doesn;t help at all. On top of that Bush is listed as the starting RB at the time of selection. But, a starting RB in Oakland doesn't mean that much to me by itself. What is telling are the reports I've been reading from the new QB who is amazed by what he's doing in camp. I've read about how ell his route-running is and they are going to get him involved in the pass game. Murphy has been doing well and if Campbell can truly open up the pass game a little bit, perhaps McF will finally get the chance to show what he can do. With this info alone, I'd think that he should have been drafted earlier.

14.11 Terrell Suggs, DL, BAL

The key to this pick is that Suggs is listed as a DE here. Suggs will have a much better season in 2010. I truly feel that his numbers will show him to be an elite DL. In fact, CBS projects him (listed as a LB) to outscore Allen who's their best DL. His numbers are just avg for a LB, but super as a DL. I hope he hits those lofty projections.

15.04 Bengals, DEF, CIN

OK, now it might be my turn to reach. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I looked at like a dozen cheat sheets and the remaining Ds were all over the place. Every time I keyed in on one, it seemed to be taken before me. ESPN had this team listed at 9, but if you sort by points they were 4th overall *boggle*. My hopes aren't that high, but they have great corners and a couple great LBs with a run stopper as well. They don't give up a lot of points and the turnover potential is still there. They have some new guys this season and must maintain the pressure if they want to do well.

11.02 RIFC Bound-Keith Bullock LB NYG
Yet another giant. Hopefully he plays middle but even if he plays weakside he’ll put up good tackle numbers in this defense. Add in a few sacks and INTs and pair him with Fletcher and Cole and I’ve got a good start to my IDP group.

12.13 RIFC Bound- E.J. Henderson LB MIN
A third 100 tackle LB couldn’t be passed up. Henderson had a nasty leg fracture last year but he looks great this pre season. He’ll be back and I’m banking on him being a tackling machine again this year.

13.02 RIFC Bound-Braylon Edwards WR NYJ
This is probably the worst pick of my draft. I was picking between him and McFadden. I went with Edwards and left myself without a decent backup at RB. Considering that I have Brandon Jacobs at RB2 I should have gone with a RB. Nonetheless, Edwards gives me a solid 4th WR and I expect he’s going to have a good year, particularly if Sanchez can improve.

14.13 RIFC Bound-Eric Weddle DB SD
As with all IDPs, I value tackles more than anything. Weddle’s going to put up 80+ tackles this year and that rounds out my IDPs with guys who are all going to put up at least 60 tackles this season. I expect that to keep me solid on defence.

15.02 RIFC Bound- Dhani Jones LB CIN
Jones fills my final flex spot and again, plenty of tackles. I’ve had success over the years in RIFC leagues with my IDPs and its because I aim for guys who can rack up the tackles. I expect Jones to have another solid season and approach 100 tackles.

11.06 Justin Tuck, DE, NYG
Nobody really stood out at this point so I decided to fill a need with best available at a position I needed.
12.09 Donald Brown, RB, Ind
Looking for some RB depth. Hoping Brown gets some time with Colts this year.
13.06 Thomas Jones, RB, KC
Again still wanting some depth at RB and Jones should get some playing time and is just an injury away from being a top 20 back.
14.09 John Carlson, TE, Sea
Filling needed positions again and Carlson could be as good as many above him.
15.06 Julian Edelman, WR, NE
Filling depth now and Edelman should be reasonably productive this year with the ability to produce big time if Welker gets tweaked again.
