Are we doing a waiver/FA process before the regular season starts?

Ah yes. I'll follow whatever rule the RIFC does for this, and I'll now have to go look at their thread to see what they are doing. :)

"315 Guru Once the draft is completed, we will lock all free agent pickups, and a waiver period will start. I'm inclined to stretch the waiver lockout though at least Thursday, and maybe Friday (any thoughts on that?) Waiver priorities will be in the reverse order of the draft (round 1). After waivers clear, any player may be added or dropped as free agents."
So discuss, do you guys want Thursday or Friday?

Other than not knowing about it, nothing that I can see Why are we not turning waivers back on until 12PM Monday?
We are penalizing anybody that works and has no access during the day.
I'm gone Mon-Fri from roughly 10 AM EDT - 8 PM EDT
Would love to discuss this

i'm confused by the process. if we've already gone through the waiver process, why are players not free agents until the season begins?
seems to me we should be in a free agent period now.

I'm in discussion right now via email. I'm real confused. MFL uses some really strange verbiage and the calendar makes no sense. I'm assuming First Come first served is FA
What I don't understand is why FA is running from Weds until Monday. If that is the case, you sure don't need Waivers. Unless I'm missing something with how MFL works

I thought FA would be on by now. I was out all day yesterday and figured the picking would be slim.
Please post here or send out an email when the FA is turned on. I think to make it fair we should have a notice before FA starts.

I just looked at your league's monthly calendar, and the waivers just aren't set up correctly. Your FCFS waivers start tonight (Monday) at 7:30 and then have no ending date/time. It MAY end at the next waiver period's start time, but it should be defined that FCFS ends at the same time the waiver period begins.
It looks like the waivers are set up correctly for the regular season, but just not for this week leading up to it.

Your FCFS shouldn't end before the first game starts. It should end Monday night, otherwise people can't pick up players before their games start after Thursday. As long as it's set to lock players once their games start.

Unless there are significant objections
- first come, first served started this evening at 7:30 eastern and will run through monday, at 10:15 p.m.
Waiver Requests will then start at 10:30 p.m. and will end on Wednesday at 12:00 p.m.
First Come, First Served will then start again Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. through the next monday at 10:15 p.m. - etc etc

quick observation on setting rosters.
like a bonehead, i failed to set my line up before thursday's game - my kicker played thursday, so i did not get his points.
however, while submitting my line up, it allows me to go with 2 TEs instead of 1 K.
right now, i'm going to leave my lineup like this. if there's a problem, and i am not home from breakfast in time to correct it, i'll ask the commish to remove the points from my second TE (which i am stating for the record is Michael Hoomanawanui)...
thanks!

It's nice to look like a genius even if it's just for one week. Looks like things are going to be as competitive as everyone thought considering the spread between the top and bottom scores was under 35 points.

The 7 and 8 seeds are based on total points. He received an extra 3.6 illegally. Will it matter? Probably not, but it very well could. It's silly that this is even a discussion.

i'm not trying to pull a fast one here, as i posted my concerns before the Sunday games even started -
but, i'd like to know - are there rules that specifically forbid what i did?
in fact, wasn't there a voting in the RIFC pro league that actually allowed partial line ups?

I removed the bonus TE from the lineup and recalculated standings in case it becomes and issue later - let me know if it does not look right.
The lineup setup rules require...
Roster 1 QB 2 RB 2 WR 1 WR/TE 1 TE 1 K 1 Team def 1 DL 1 LB 1 DB 3 additional IDP (flex)
The discussion about partial lineups dealt with whether you could have no rostered player in one or more slots - conceding points in one of the slots

my argument - and note, again,i am not arguing over those 1.5 points or whatever, but rather discussing the rule it self.
is there ANYWHERE that says you must play a kicker, and you cannot play two TEs, for example?

Post 26 shows the roster requirements of what you need in your lineup. For example, you need 1 kicker. Additional example, you can start 2 TE, but then you would need to start 2 WR instead of 3. By your logic you could start 10 RBs if you wanted, but the roster requirements are clearly stated.

No, you couldn't start 10 rbs....go look at the max allowed. It won't let you set a roster with 10 rbs. But it will let you set one with 2 te and no k.

The roster listed in post 2 of the RIFC start thread is the MAXIMUM number of players you may start at a position.
I will gladly give Tree the 3.6 points in exchange for clarifying the above point. Otherwise, I will be benching my PK and DL going forward and starting QBs, RBs and/or WRs in their place.

again, the points aren't important to me. i'm playing devil's advocate and pointing out what i think is a flaw that if not corrected, can be abused.
as i showed in the first week, you can opt to bench your kicker (or whoever), and instead start both a third WR and a second TE

It may be a flaw with MFL system or with the way that the league is entered into it (although it is the same for AAA#2) but the rules as stated in this thread are very clear as to what is allowed and disallowed.

Requiring a complete lineup is one solution, of course. Maybe the best one - although we have not (yet) required this in the RIFC.
If you continue to allow partial lineups, and someone starts 3 WRs and 2 TEs (whether intentionally or inadvertently), then the commissioner should probably adjust the team's points to eliminate the one WR or TE who scored the most points for that week.

Also, for the waiver order, I use the criteria, let it run to get the correct order, and then go back in and set it to rolling. I do this every Tuesday for the week. After the week 6 waivers, it just rolls until the end.

I think the transaction that through was a commissioner rectifying my fat finger on Sunday morning per my request in post 45. I had the transaction set to pick up Shaun Ellis and drop Ray Edwards, but didn't hit the add/drop buttons; then, when I went back to the page, I mistakenly dropped Ray Lewis instead of Ray Edwards. I posted here right away, to try to get this undone. In the end, I lost 11 points in my degrade in linebackers.

Ok Bags thanks Personally I think that is one of the worst trades I have ever seen made by a team with a winning record but it certainly isn't collusive- I just wish I could see what you are seeing in this deal-By the way I do hope Garrard is back from injury and plays this week and I do believe that when healthy Garrard is very under rated although not anywhere near on a par with someone like Brady. I also would not trade D.Williams, Welker and Vilma straight up for Green-Ellis, Owens and D.Johnson so its not like you are getting a major benefit on that end of the trade either ?? Oh well maybe thats why I am 5-9.

I don't need a babysitter for my team. Let the trade go through or don't.
with a response like that, i'm not sure that you don't need a babysitter for your team.
there is nothing unusual about asking for rationale for a trade. what is unusual is not only not giving that requested rationale, but responding in such a childish manner.
personally, i think it's an awful trade. you traded a top 10 QB for a QB who might be a top 20 QB, and who is dealing with concussion related issues.
you traded a #1 running back for his team (albeit one who might not play this week) for a running back that is #2 on his pass-first team, and will likely be #3 when Fred Taylor returns.
Welker for Owens? ok, i'll give you this one. I'd rather have Owens over Welker at this point.
and while Johnson is probably the better option than Vilma at this point, it simply doesn't come close to making up for the discrepancy at the QB and RB slots you traded.
so that's why i think it's an awful trade, and it's sad that you can't even be bothered to defend such a questionable trade.

and you still haven't explained why YOU made the trade. you explained why a computer - that doesn't take into consideration Garrard's injury and the fact he's not that good, nor the fact that the RB you just acquired isn't even the starter anymore.
and, your attitude about it, is still childish. a couple people asked for your rationale, and instead, were met with puffed chest and "i don't owe you anything!"

I'm not in your league but I still check these threads, and I have to say...need to chill out. The trade may seem a little lopsided, but it's not what it's being made out to be. And unless trades are clearly collusion, and this is not even close, they shouldn't be vetoed.
Take a look at the PPG difference between the guys being traded. Brady isn't that great this year, that offense hasn't done a whole lot. DWill is hurt and he might miss more than just this week...plus their running game isn't doing anything and he's been outscored by Green Ellis so far. Owens is outpointing Welker by a good clip, and same with Johnson vs Vilma. I didn't add up the numbers but I'm pretty sure Bags comes out ahead in PPG here. Sure, name value wise this trade looks bad, but based on what's happening this season it's not.

This is from the rules in the 2010 RIFC post #2
After the draft, trades will be subject to a review period. For the first 24 hours following a trade, managers may protest a trade by posting a message at the RotoGuru forum, or by sending an email to the Commissioner. If at least 3 managers protest a trade within 24 hours of its announcement, then all managers will be polled within the next 24 hours. If seven or more managers vote to veto a trade, then it will not be approved. If a proposed trade is announced less than 24 hours before the earliest freeze for any player involved, then the entire trade will not be processed until the following week.
If a trade does not receive at least 3 protests, then it will be effective 24 hours after it is announced. If a trade receives at least 3 protests but the protests are not upheld in a full league vote, then the trade will be processed 48 hours after it is announced.
It has been more than 24 hours and only two people have had a problem with this trade. Although never really protested it either.
Could one of the two commissioners please make a ruling on this.
Thank you.

When was this trade accepted? I'm trying to figure out how I was supposed to have been notified. Is it on the site somewhere to turn this notification on/off?
There's been a few trades now and I haven't really been hearing about them or knowing about them until they show up in Transactions on mfl.

except it doesn't work for pending trades. i've had it checked all season - it only comes through when a trade has been approved by the commish.

Bonka posted in the RG14 thread about automatically creating a poll when a trade offer is accepted:
The trades can be done completely on MFL. Just set it up to post a poll for each trade. That way people can have it set to email them when new polls are created and they can then vote yes/no on the trade.
I highly recommend this be done as soon as possible. Thanks.

Beezer - there actually was a poll created. but i didn't have that box checked. i do now.
i'd like to say i'm even more disgusted with the trade now that Garrard has been dropped for Carson Palmer.
so, in essence, the trade went down like this:
Tom Brady DeAngelo Williams Wes Welker Jonathan Vilma
for
BenJarvus Green-Ellis Terrell Owens Derrick Johnson
seriously? does no one see anything wrong with that?
i'm disgusted by the trade, i'm disgusted by the owner's flat out refusal to explain why he made the trade, and i'm disappointed by the owner's cocky attitude about the trade and refusal to discuss it.

Unless there is some sort of collusion or something like the top 4 players being traded for the bottom 4 players, owners are free to make good trades, bad trades, or no trades. That is part of the game (real or fantasy) - otherwise the Saints don't give up their draft for Ricky Williams, the Herschel Walker trade never happens, etc. etc.

no doubt, and i don't disagree with you.
but in over a decade of fantasy sports, i've NEVER played in a league where an owner not only flat out refused to explain his/her rationale for making a trade, but was so cocky in an "i don't owe you anything" sort of way.
that's what is rubbing me the wrong way. the out and out refusal to say "hey, i made this trade because..."

Playoffs start after week #13.
Championship bracket 8 teams Top 6 W/L records are seeded 1-6 Top remaining total points are seeded 7-8 Teams with equivalent W/L records are seeded based on head-to-head first (regardless of the number of teams), then total points. Bracket is fixed (no reseeding after each round)
Players at the primary skill positions (QB, RB, WR) and team defenses may not be added for any reason during the playoffs. Free agents at these positions will be locked out after the final regular season game. You may drop a player at one of these positions, but once dropped, that player cannot be added later.
Players at the other positions (TE, PK, IDP) may be added or dropped according to normal regular season guidelines, subject to playoff claiming priorities, if applicable. Following the final regular season game, priorities will be reset based on playoff seed, with the top seed getting the top priority. Thereafter, throughout the playoffs, priorities will again adjust only when a claim is awarded.
If a playoff game ends in a tie score, the team with the better seed shall advance.
Teams which are not still active in the Championship playoffs may not make any transactions - adds or drops - even if they are still competing in a Consolation bracket.

So...here is how I see it...everyone or someone please check me...
SwinganaMiss at 18-8 is seeded 1
We then have the grand scenario of 6 teams with records of 15-11. First tie-break for seedings in head-to-head...per my review we then have
Tree 8-2 Vampire 5-5 Beastie 5-5 Ocho 5-5 Goat 4-6 Da Bomb 3-7
For the 3 teams at 5-5, we then go to total points...
Vampire 1795.92 Beastie 1757.70 Ocho 1756.06
Sooooo,,,we then have
Swing 1 Tree 2 Vamp 3 Beastie 4 Ocho 5 Goat 6
Top remaining total points are seeded 7-8...so.....
Da Bomb 1797.92 and Crazy 1783.10 round out the top play-off bracket.
Slackjawed - with the same record as Crazy but less points - misses out since 7 and 8 are seeded only based on total points
Please feel free to point out any errors that I made.
Reminder again...
Players at the primary skill positions (QB, RB, WR) and team defenses may not be added for any reason during the playoffs. Free agents at these positions will be locked out after the final regular season game. You may drop a player at one of these positions, but once dropped, that player cannot be added later.

Teams which are not still active in the Championship playoffs may not make any transactions - adds or drops - even if they are still competing in a Consolation bracket.
I have to enforce the player restrictions manually so please help me see any violations.
I will set a consolation bracket seeded solely on total points unless someone objects.
Thanks everyone.

Regular season is done so no one can pick up QB, RB, WR or team defenses and teams not in the championship bracket can't make any transactions.
I will be doing a reset on waiver priorities bases on playoff seed.

Well, bmd, consider yourself lucky to be in the playoffs. Sunday night I was slightly ahead of you until flacco fumbled and gave the steelers the ball deep in ravens territory. Im not sure how the tie breaker would have worked, but was afraid that the late steeler td was going to keep me out of the playoffs, and it did.

I am the 7 seed, but I did have the 3rd highest points for during the season. My head to head record amongst teams in that 6 way tie happened to be the worst, bringing me down to the 7 seed. I see also that you, Beezer, had the 4th most points. Should be a good matchup.

44 points from your Kicker and Defense is pretty sweet. My highest scoring player (Brady) was negated by your recent add of Gronkowski. Also interesting that the average of our 4 RBs this week was 3.5 points.

Thanks guys. If you had told me last week that I'd score a combined 5 points from my RBs and 5.5 from my WR2 and WR3, I would have predicted a blowout the other way. 75 points from my TE, PK, TD, and my LB plugin is just as crazy the other way.
Very happy to survive and get back to the RIFC for the 2nd time. Fittingly enough, I was the #1 seed in two other leagues and didn't win either of them, so there you go.
