Something came up and for the first time since...um, since who knows when I couldn't watch an iota of football on opening day.

Picked a good day for it though.

Bills lost. Breaking news: Trent Edwards stinks.

My first draft choice was a disappointment. Likewise my 2nd draft choice. And my 3rd. My 4th dc was a huge disappointment. Spiller put up stats like those of a person about to be released next week. My 5th and 6th dcs haven't played yet, but I know what to expect. My 7th dc was the only one to meet expectations. He was benched so his expectation was zero and that's what he scored for me.

Great day to miss football!

What'd Romo lose a bet? He's wearing a Redskin's colored shirt at the post game presser.

That penalty shouldn't have been holding, it was a mauling.

LOKI -- sure did and had the same thoughts! What a dumb play. Neither team deserved to win...

NB -- my guys did OK esp with a bagel for Graham and 1 TKL for the concussed Bradley... Foster sure was sweet for me!! My #5 pick. Chung was an excellent surprise. I think it is safe to say that I'll be 2-0 this week. Yea!!

My team scored well despite Schaub mysteriously being absent from a 34-point win. But I had an unlucky draw. NY Titans might just hang 180+ on me by the end of the night. My only real hope to win the other game is for Mason to score a couple of TD's.

If Schaub gets 15 instead of 5 I might be okay. ( Or if I play Orton instead. Haha funny.)

Well, one thing I am happy about was changing my lineup and putting in McFadden in at the last minute. Early on I wasn't so sure as Moreno was outplaying him. The night before I had Leon in there and switched that so looks like I got progressively better.

Ray Rice really let me down. I am really puzzled by that. I was so sure that was a good pick. Still might turn out ok since the Jets D is good, but since Rice will now not be the goal line back, it's going to hurt. I went big on WRs this season for the first time. That can be dangerous because they can be hit or miss and TD-dependent. I've absolutely struggled there though. I still may be ok there in the long run. Got to get some TDs though. Was really impressed by my Arenas and the Tate pick. Still not sure about Tate and I may have even won one of my games had Arenas taken all those returns. McCluseter was sick and not even supposed to play. Arenas just missed a TD and the next return McC came in and did get the return TD.

Celek loses a lot o value with Kolb out. Was impressed with Freeman too. Need to make some adjustments but can't let one week dictate everything. Hate losing games by starting the optimal lineup.

Really disappointed in my draw last week. 4th in scoring and I faced 2 of the 3 teams ahead of me. It's a long season, but when there's only 3 guaranteed spots and they're based on W-L, you have to have some luck along the way. Maybe this means the week I score 90 is a 2-0. ;)

Take Heart Nerf, I have been in 7/8 place by standings and lost due to TPF So your high score may serve you well at the end...

Remember that waivers will be processed at noon on Wednesday. Free agent add/drops will start at 3pm Wednesday.

Waiver priorities are currently based on the reverse of the league standings. The waiver order has been adjusted. If you see any errors (anywhere) notify me immediately.

BTW, scoring adjustments are done automatically by MFL, in case you see a (probably) slight change somewhere.

Too bad for TD about Bush -- 6 weeks, broken leg.

With all the early season ending injuries there is no way that the players will allow an 18 game season. I think WE should have a vote too, as an injury "ruins" our seasons as well! (just kidding...)

russelldl -- I can't override that stuff. Once it goes it processes them all in 1 second and I would need to override all the others and I am (self) locked out of that screen so I can't peek.

Here's how: go to for owners --> waivers --> always put the drop player first and then add the one(s) you want. The line in the box should say Add player XXX and drop Player xyz. Don't forget to save each round.

It is pretty intuitive.

We have made a small but significant change to the waiver system.

Once players are dropped, they're locked for exactly 1 day. (Same)
You can put in a waiver claim for locked players between the time they're dropped and when they unlock if you'd like. (New)
All other players should be available via FCFS after waivers run weekly. (Same)

This is something we had in FanBall and AOL, but could not figure out the wording of MFL in time to set it up for last season. We think we have it set correctly now. So if you want any dropped/locked player you can now put in a waiver request for him. Please note that this WILL AFFECT your waiver wire position -- you will go to the bottom if you get him.

Hey, I made a post in the RIFC thread but figured I'd post here in case you see this first. The waivers aren't set up correctly. I realized this today after they didn't run and I'm pretty sure I know how to change them to create the desired result. For now you'll have to process waivers manually and then make the waiver scheduling changes. After Guru runs ours and makes the changes I can send you a screenshot if you want, but I'll explain it again quickly and you can probably do it since you're familiar with it now.

Basically instead of the waivers for locked players running from Wednesday to Monday night, you need to have daily ones running from Wednesday noon to Thursday noon, then Thursday noon to Friday noon, and so on up until Monday (can run this one until a little before kickoff Monday night if you want). I think you'll also have to change the way players are locked out to the next waiver period rather than 1 day since waivers don't run at 12:00:00 exactly and the timing would get thrown off a bit.

Yeah, I did just email you, but hold off on messing with settings for now. We're currently in a wait and see period and will make changes if waivers don't run at 3am Thursday as we suspect may happen. Sometimes the options at MFL are split up over too many separate pages and you miss one like I did when setting things up for the first time.

I was at the NY-Tenn game yesterday, and the Giant defense was able to shut down Chris Johnson for most of the game. Aside from a short TD early in the game, most of his points came after the game was decided, i.e. "garbage time." This was the only positive in the game for the Giants as the team amassed 5 personal fouls and in general looked terrible. This was the 2nd game in a row in which CJ was stopped, but I cannot complain too much as the rest of my team played well.

It was nice to come from behind and win one with Knox. Had I started Tate and 3 points less, it wouldn't have happened. Of course starting Freeman didn't work out so well.

OK - I reversed the drops/adds. I unlocked the players who were added and I added back the commich "no peek" option. I think we are set to go. I will email Toral, Titans and Nerf and have them confirm here that all is well.

In the meantime, you can make waiver requests like normal. That should not be affected.

I figured it out by using the top bar to do place waiver claim and then have to find the players manually without being able to look at stats. Need to windows open. I hate how half the useful info is on the side and half is hidden up top.

Earlier I was looking at player stats and sorting for free agents and then trying to add from there.

How do you do it?

Our waivers for locked players seems to be working as hoped. The dropped player is locked for 24 hours -- but not exactly. It is 24 hours PLUS the time up to the next 3 am clock time when the wavier will actually run. So drop say at 6 pm Weds, the unlock/waiver award is 3 am Friday. Got it?

Phew. Although I still need to do some manual reworking of the main weekly waiver wire order, it is easy to do and once we get to 6 weeks, it is just a straight rolling waive so no input needed by me.

With our first week with byes, I will be curious to see if the game results change at all.

I know this week with byes my matchup with taxman worked out real well. He has been one of the top scoring teams but his 2nd and 3rd RB are both on bye while best is questionable. If he cant go I am looking at facing keiland williams and bests' replacement. Can't complain about that. Especially with TE1 out as well.

I'm gonna maybe miss P Thomas -- game time decision and my WR are not so hot either (Britt, DJax, M Williams), but maybe Brees will have a better day than he has had so far...need tons of YDS and TD's.

2 INT and 2 FL (WR's) cost me last week as I only lost by 3+ points...Do expect DJax (and Vick) to go off vs Redskins though. Still have Finley vs Detroit and Foster vs OAK -- could be in for BIG days there!

RIFC is missing AP and Nerf is gonna miss Roy Wms (maybe -- I think last week was an abberration...)

It's OK -- it lets you try the move and then gives you the no, no, no -- rather than not letting you do it in the first place -- kinda backwards programming methinks...

-----------------------------------

For this week, I survey the scores and see these possibilities:
double winners taxman, mjd, footwedge
double losers: holt, ref, titans, toral, cc

close games:
ghostwood (131 plus Woodhead and Chung) vs Nerf (135 plus r brown, welker, y bell) -- methinks I lose that one, but you never know which MIA RB will get the points...plus will Woodhead even touch the ball??

ghostwood (131 plus Woodhead and Chung) vs Slowhand (116 plus Ricky (see comment above about MIA RB), carpenter, mayo...)

Feel free to chime in if you see other potentially close games...

Your 4 guys could get 40.56 points to over come dpr...kinda depends on whether the MIA or NEP DST show up to thwart that! If it is a shootout, well, that changes things...

vs RIFC it's a 36.74 difference:
112.60 + Brady
vs
75.86 + Marshall, Moss, Hernandez and Gradkowlski. Trouble is that you need Brady for your guys to score points...unless Marshall goes off by himself...

I was at the NYG-Det game yesterday and knew my team was in trouble when when Manning overthrew a wide open Hakeem Nicks with what should have been a 60 yard TD pass and 12 FP during the 1st offensive series.

I did not see the hit on the Detroit player, but it was quite frightening to see him motionless and not giving a "thumbs up" when being carted off the field. Later reports indicated that he will be OK, but not so for the unfortunate Rutgers player who may be permanently paralyzed.

Judy, you are absolutely right, and the league needs to enforce its rule against helmet to helmet hits. During games that I watched last week, I could hear the impact of more than one helmet to helmet hit on my TV, and one the announcer actually praised the hard hit with no mention of the illegality or more to the point the danger to both players. The player who does the spearing is also at risk for a severe injury to the cervical spine.

I actually worked in an workshop in the '70's with Dr. Joe Torg the Temple (later Penn) orthopedic surgeon who got the NCAA to ban hits/tackles leading with the helmet and other potentially paralyzing moves. The rate of paralysis went down dramatically. I was glad to see all the columnists focusing on it today as well.

Suspensions as well a short a roster player for the next game are the only way to go. Maybe even you stay out as long as the player you hit stays out if it was due to recklessness and desire to do harm -- Harrison for example.

Titans needs a monster game from CJ to beat RIFC (up 45.78) and Ghostwood (up 20.02 plus Britt and Witherspoon).

TD is up 10.82 over Tax. it will be TD's Bironas and Hope vs Tax's Tullock and Titans DST.
TD is up 14.5 over nerf. it will be TD's Bironas and Hope vs nerf's MJD.

mjd is up 17.87 over cc. cc has sims walker and verner left. mjd is finished.

This season has been totally upside down. But even starting two weeks ago I knew it was just about getting points and not about matchups. It's kind of refreshing, actually. I only have to keep scoring and I don't even care if I win or lose now.

You look at the lineup I have, and if I get in the 8th spot I can run the table in December. My team has actually under-performed so far, and no devastating injuries. So that is what I am counting on.

My mid season report for Ghostwood.

While I cannot be too unhappy tied for second place, there are issues with my team!!

Unfortunate breaks -- sprains, concussions, etc
Pierre Thomas -- my #1 RB/#3 pick shows no sign of returning anytime soon
DJax -- my #1 WR/#2 pick has had ups and downs and now is concussed
Jermichael Finley -- my #1 TE/#4 pick is IR for his knee
Paul Posluzny #1 LB#7 pick - out with injury for two games -- again… Back to form now though ~10ppg
Stewart Bradley -- LB/#12 -- missed game #2, still working back into FB awareness

Disappointments -- where are you?
Drew Brees -- my #1 overall pick -- just cannot seem to get going...now with Bush and Thomas out, even more so although Ivory did a nice job last week.
Stewart Bradley -- #2 LB/ # 12 pick -- slow to get back into football savvy ness. Seems to be coming around though.
Brandon Graham -- #1 DL/ #9 pick -- wasted pick -- had a great training camp but it has not translated into games. He’s gone off my roster.
David Akers - PK -- 3 misses to the same side? Adjust man!

Coming along..
Kenny Britt -- WR # 2/ #10 pick -- has potential, just has to use it. (Thank you for the TD last week…)
Mike Thomas -- WR -- not a passing offense, but he is a weapon in it
Mike Williams -- WR -- again on a young team, but coming along
WIll Witherspoon -- LB/#12 pick -- need more big plays please
Eric Berry -- DB/#14 pick -- needs more big plays
Ryan Fitzpatrick -- my bye week QB is doing OK!

Pick ups I have high hopes for:
Haloti Ngata - DL
Tony Moeaka - TE
Danny Woodhead - RB -- already has saved me a couple times…
Shaun Phillips - LB -- will be a bye week helper
Stephens Howling -- RB -- bye week pick up for Foster and injured Thomas

Super stars for me:
Arian Foster - #2 RB/ #5 pick --has been GREAT!
DJax when healthy -- see above
Patrick Chung -- DB -- gotta add IDP points for blocked kicks next year; great tackler
Nate Allen -- good for tackles, PD’s and INT’s

Gone from draft list:
Brandon Graham
Aromashodu -- #8 pick -- ugh (don’t even remember first name any more)
Matt Moore -- QB backup
Hooman - TE -- got injured -- may still end up being good at some point
Rasheed Jennings -- RB --not being used enough
Quentin Mikell -- DB --swapped him out for Nate Allen
Kareen Huggins -- RB #16 pick -- not getting enough action
Anthony Dixon -- RB -- last pick -- not getting enough action

My team started off great but has struggled of late. I would be interested in seeing a chart like the one that guru does for the big league but my running backs have been letting me down (although Felix Jones role has increased so I have 3 solid startable guyshere) as well as my IDP who have been subpar.

I will just go round by round

Turner-Has not been very good so far. Yards and TDs are both lacking. The one game he got it going he got injured. Has faced some tough defenses but needs to pick it up.

Wayne-Has consistantly been good. What you expect from a WR1.

Benson- Has been solid but not much more. Was selected as the 14th RB and is the 14th RB on average stats

Smith- Put up good stats early but then Clausen came in so he stunk and then got injured. Hopefully his and Moores return to the field makes him the solid WR2 he was drafted to be.

Cutler- Has been fantastic other than the game against the Giants where he was sacked every other play and concussed. Hope he can give me top10 numbers the rest of the way.

Jones-He hasnt performed so far but I havent needed him. Hopefully having taken over for Barber he gives me a few good starts the rest of the way

Forsett- Probably my first pick that I dont expect to do much for me the rest of the way. Marshawn ruins any oppurtunity he had of being more than a desperation starter.

Ruud- Hopefully he picksit up

Roethlisberger- HES BACK. Hopefully top10 rest of the way

breaston- Was inconsistant but solid before getting injured. We will see if he can find consistancy now that he is healthy.

Royal- Has been very good so far this year. He is injured now however but hopefully doesnt miss time.

Slaton- Never got any carries or did much in return game. HIghest drafted guy I have dropped.

Manning- Has been average enough.

Washington- dropped

Hawthorne-Dropped

Olsen- has been ok but will not relied on much.

Tatapu-Dropped

Saint-have been good for me.

Jackson -Never got healthy. Dropped.

Keller-My best pick

cardinals-Picked for early matchups. Did their job.

Zbikowski-dropped before season started

Maualuga- see above

Rackers- Provided good points early but is on his bye so dropped.

Looking it over not too many early busts or any picks that really provided huge value(other than Keller). Seems the general theme is slightly disapointing so far but hopefully can turn it around.

My IDP picks were terrible. Only 2 remain. From round 14 to 24 I selected 6. All have been dropped.

Lenon is my only notable waiver add.

Hey guys -- check out the link Bonka gave above -- it's neat!

re dpr's lousy IDP picks -- I'm thinking of an IDP heavy league for next year. Game roster would be:
1 @ at QB, RB, WR, TE, PK, DST and requiring 2 @ at DL, LB, DB with 3 flex IDP. Would be very different and some fun!

Just getting back from vacation with very little access. Thanks to Judy for helping me with site/league# so I could set my lineup remotely, but didn't have time for anything else. So wasn't up on news or couldn't make any pickups etc. So I missed the news that McF was healthy apparently and that ~44 points was wasted on my bench. Looks like I should still win both games, but I am so far behind on points, I really needed that. At least Knowshown did ok. I wasn't sure if he would play either, but knew Leon wasn't the answer. Ray Rice has been a bust for me when you consider that I paid the #4 overall pick for him. I am really disappointed. Thought he'd do much much better this season.

Roddy White hasn't disappointed though. I thought I got a steal in him and I did. Might be able to do some more of this later...

Another week, another team putting 140+ on me. Not that I care much at this point. Just keep scoring!

My team is doing okay - not great, but not nearly as bad as my record suggests.

Nobody has really surprised other than Orton, whom I didnt play until this week.

Alot of my top players have underperformed, but not enough for me to bench or drop them. Just kind of stumbling along. This includes Jones-Drew, Schaub, Brown, Welker, Willis.. that's all of my top 5 picks heh. The weird thing is that there's no specific reason for any of them not to score well - they just aren't.

Best draft picks so far have been Amendola and LaRon Landry. Bears DEF has been pretty good too.

Not alot of really bad picks. Ive kept most of my drafted players so far.

Best pickup has been Roy Williams, by far.

A 2-10 team should have alot more problems than mine, but it's relatively healthy and as I had said before, get into the playoffs and I can make a run with the best of them.

Re 178-OK Judy, I'll take Brees off your hands for Romo.
If Romo is out 8-10 weeks with a fractured clavicle, that effectively ends his fantasy season for me, and leaves me with Alex Smith. Serves me right for picking a QB so early in the draft.

Going through it manually the current order seems to be correct. The only question mark is that footwedge, dpr and slowhand, who all had the same record, are not listed in the same order as they were on the Standings page at the relevant time, but I haven't looked into the relevant tiebreakers.

Everyone who made a waiver claim last week seems to have been put to the bottom of the list, as they were supposed to be. The last 2 claims were made by holt and Taxman, who occupy the last 2 spots of the waiver order.

I do think I have it correct. dpr, Slow and foot were in that order before I messed it up. I had copied it down before I made any changes, so I think their order reflects the criteria for WW, which is/was different from the standings order.

Now I just have to make sure it keeps rolling from here on in. I think I did it right and am waiting for Guru to confirm. For tonight's WW, we are all set.

This week's lineup:
#1 pick -- Brees -- sitting him vs PGH; let's see if Fitz is for real vs KCC
#2 DJax -- on Bye plus concussion
#3 P Thomas -- now in a walking boot and crutches
#4 Finley -- on IR
#5 Foster -- off his bye week, but not producing like I need...vs Indy who will work really hard to shut him down after what he did to them in week 1.
#6 Iggles DST -- on bye -- we'll see what Miami can do vs Cincy

Plus Britt, M Williams (TB), M Thomas, Moeaki, Woodhead
IDP: Kampman (Grabbed him to clobber Kitna...), Pos, Phillips, Witherspoon, Finnegan, Berry (and maybe Chung if he practices today).

Going up against Taxman and dpr -- both in second place ties with mjd and titans.

This league is all bunched up with Nerf just sittin' back piling up the points...!

Think there's been something wrong with waiver priorities. MJD made a waiver move on Sunday, but still got the third waiver move on Tuesday. The previous week I got the 9th waiver claim, even though a lot of teams had made waiver claims since my previous one. Please check it out. I can't find any way to view current waiver priorities.

I'm not in this league but the scenario you describe is possible Holt if ---> 1. Everyone goes to waivers at 1 PM on Sunday + 2. Waiver priority is reset each week reverse order of standings.

Is MJD third from the bottom of the standings right now? otherwise I don't know.

It keeps resetting each week based on earlier criteria -- the ones for weeks 1 through 6. I canceled that (again) and now it is set in worst to first order with a roll to the bottom when you get a waiver -- starting today. I don't know what's going on, but I suspect we are stuck with it as it is way too late to go backwards... I don't know what I did wrong, but clearly I did.

It is me who screwed it up. So in essence, we have been using criteria based ww for 9 weeks instead of 6, but from today onward, we will be using roll to the bottom ones. When I pick that option, it automatically resets to the worst to first order and I cannot change that or it gets messed up again--aggggh!

I hope this is OK -- it really is not, but I messed up and it is what we are stuck with... It gave the lower teams a slight advantage for the Weds picks for three extra weeks.

I went back to week 7 waivers and did the waivers by hand and they have been awarded correctly. The current order does not reflect these moves as I just changed it to rolling and it automatically reset it to the reverse of standings.

I can change it to the correct order, but then it needs to roll from there -- that is where I got stuck. Off to GURU to fix.

I fixed the order to what it should be based upon the waivers awarded this week. I forgot to copy it down before I played with it, but I am certain it is correct. It will roll from here on out without any fixes.

Also the weds waiver awards list needs to be read from top to bottom, so mjd actually got the 7th pick this week. cc was the first. (6 teams between cc and mjd did not do ww --or did not "win" a pick).

We are good to go...as far as I can tell.

It was painful watching the Giants-Cowboy game. The only positive was that my daughter came down with a cold, and we decided not to go to the game. There was a power failure, and the entire stadium went dark; unfortunately for the Giants the lights went back on. As expected the Cowboys played with more emotion than in their previous games, but the Giants gave the game to them with turnovers, dropped passes, and penalties. NY actually was in the game until the end when a holding penalty negated a TD pass to Hicks, and Manning tried to pick up a bad snap instead of falling on it losing the ball. Adding insult to injury, that penalty cost me 11 FPs and thus probably one if not both of my games this week. It seemed as if the Giants were channeling the Jets of past years

Well, I need HUGE games (like 60+ points total) from my 4 guys.
Here's a hopeful prediction:
DJAX - 35 points
Akers - 8 points (as Iggles score TD's not FG's...)
Sims - 10 points (tkles of Torain, sacks of #5)
Iggles DST - 15 points (lotsa INT, SACKS of #5)

Total = well, it is possible,,, but not likely...

So it might be a 2 loss week and I get tied up there in first...

WOW -- what a high scoring week!

cc = 185.94
GW = 180.48
TD = 160.42 with 2 players left
Nerf = 157 with one player left
Slow = 152

cc's opponents were TD and Nerf. Ordinarily their scores would garner wins but not this weekend vs cc -- all three teams had 8 guys score in double figures.

I see a shake up in the standings for tomorrow as all the bottom teams won at least one and the top teams all lost at least one -- except GW :))). The middle will be very crowded! Toral could jump all the way from 10th to tied for 4th. Total points will be really important for those 7/8 places. I need to check with Guru about the criteria order if there are ties for 6th place.

I was at the Meadowlands the day the plane flew over the stadium pulling the famous/infamous banner, "14 Years of lousy football. We've had enough," and would now like to hire one with a banner complaining about inept football. Of course post-911 that would not be possible.

Tiebreakers from GURU:

Tiebreaker is HTH first, then total points. MFL should be able to do that correctly.

The 7th and 8th spots are then for total points only - for all teams not already qualified. MFL will not do that automatically.

Just from general observation it seems, at least in this league, scoring is way up compared to every RIFC league Ive played before (including two seasons at the top). Typically, if you averaged 135 PPG you made the playoffs one way or another. I'm not so sure that is acceptable now. Is it the tackles from all players that are raising scores?

I don't really have time to do the analysis, but it would be interesting to see.

Nerf-I would not count on the Titans:

Chris Johnson, 1.01, a bust for a number one. Adversely affected by ineffective QBs and no passing game (even with the addition of Randy Moss).

Tony Romo, 2.14, out for the season.

Antonio Gates, 3.14, out indefinitely

Matt Forte, 4.14, inconsistent, but the only one of my 1st 6 draft picks performing as expected.

Hakeem Nicks, 5.01, out indefinitely

Jeremy Maclin, 6.14/7.01, lost in a trade for a QB to replace Romo

I do not expect to win many more games because of all of this, and if I make the playoffs, it will be because of points the Titans accumulated before all the injuries.

My number one and two picks were terrible (Shonn Greene and Ryan Mathews). I remember thinking that rb's with fresh legs and starting positions should be money. I blame my terrible season on the San Diego Chargers RB management. I was thinking LT's dropoff was due to his age. It turns out it was more due to the Chargers just not having much use for RB's.

I also see I have the lowest efficiency in the league (only getting 85.2% of my potential points). That has me leading the league with 7 "coulda wons". So as bad as my team was, and as many points as my opponents have piled up, I could still be tied for second at 13-9 if I could have picked the right starters every week. That's hard to imagine.

My RIFC team is so bad I'll prob be in AA next season. Just bad rb's and bad luck picking my receivers each week. Other parts of my team have been pretty good. So, my Thanksgiving thoughts are, I am thankful that my money league teams are doing well this year. I guess it's easier to recover from a bad 1st rd pick in an 8-team league than it is in a 14 team league, and I'm thankful for that.

slow needs 10.06 (Fitz) to beat Holt
That TOral dude has now won 11 in a row and was the top scorer this week: Vick, Bowe, F Jackson and Hillis came up big for him this week.

I do have an outside chance of grabbing the 8th spot. Maybe within 30 pts of the 8th and 9th positions going into the final week. Anything less than 150 next week wont get it done though, unless loki can get into the top 6 (would probably have tiebreakers but needs help).

Remember that we do lots of playoffs, not just champs and consos. See the playoff link for details.

FROM GURU:

Time to refresh memories about our special league rules for the playoffs, which start after week #13.

Championship bracket
8 teams
Top 6 W/L records are seeded 1-6
Top remaining total points are seeded 7-8
Teams with equivalent W/L records are seeded based on head-to-head first (regardless of the number of teams), then total points.
Bracket is fixed (no reseeding after each round)

Players at the primary skill positions (QB, RB, WR) and team defenses may not be added for any reason during the playoffs. Free agents at these positions will be locked out after the final regular season game. You may drop a player at one of these positions, but once dropped, that player cannot be added later.

Players at the other positions (TE, PK, IDP) may be added or dropped according to normal regular season guidelines, subject to playoff claiming priorities, if applicable. Following the final regular season game, priorities will be reset based on playoff seed, with the top seed getting the top priority. Thereafter, throughout the playoffs, priorities will again adjust only when a claim is awarded.

If a playoff game ends in a tie score, the team with the better seed shall advance.

Teams which are not still active in the Championship playoffs may not make any transactions - adds or drops - even if they are still competing in a Consolation bracket.

The H-T-H rule makes this even more complex than NFL playoff tie rules. Your HTH % can change completely depending on which teams you are tied with.

I think the hardest thing would be to lose the last playoff spot by -- as it would be this week -- 2 pts. You'd 2nd guess every decision you made in any game -- in the fight for the W/L spots you only blame yourself if a move cost you a win.
300Nerfherders
      ID: 347242717
      Tue, Nov 30, 2010, 15:56
The HTH rule is new this year. IIRC the way it was last year was if three or more teams tied, HTH was thrown out and it went to points. I remember distinctly as I ended up in a three-way tie for second, and lost the tie on points. Turns out I would have lost on HTH record as well. But in a situation like we had last week with half the teams tied for 4th place, it gets really convoluted.

My path to the playoffs is simple. I have to score 12 more points than Tax and Ref. That is of course assuming the same 6 teams stay in the top 6. It gets easier if loki can get up there, as then there will be two spots I could grab.
301Toral
      ID: 2110462217
      Tue, Nov 30, 2010, 16:49
I am not sure the application of the HTH rule is new this year, but I agree with Nerf in being surprised that it is interpreted this way. Although my understanding is different from Nerf's -- I thot in a 3-way tie you looked to see if any team went 2-0 against the other 2 or not, then 1 would be 1-1, one 0-2, etc. If they were all 1-1 then you went to points. That was in the days before DHs tho.

This way is much more fun.

In honour of Nerf's schedule travails, I suggest that in the future an unusually brutal schedule be called a "Nerf Schedule".

Actually I think we used H2H last year as the #2 tiebreaker after W/L. I remember because one of the guys who was tied for 6th lost on H2H and was not too happy about it. (He tanked his conso game.)

Re {299} the W/L is so random as you need to match up your crappy week with a crappy team and your great week with a great team to succeed.

For example: 130 points would have won 7 matchups this week end, but Holt (101), titans (118), cc (121) and FW (117) all won one game with that low score. At 138 you lost 2, at 141 mjd split, and at 129 I split.

So the matchups are really the crap shoot! Which is why we use the TPF for the 7/8 places. To give those guys who clearly had crappy matchup issues another shot.

At 2 - 0, Toral holds the tiebreaker for first place over me if he wins 2 and I lose 2.

I think my TPF will hold up as the top score.

HTH has always been the 2nd tiebreaker in RIFC leagues; the question is how you apply it in the case of multiple ties.

At 2 - 0, Toral holds the tiebreaker for first place over me if he wins 2 and I lose 2.

Oh pretty please Judy, can't you help me here. You'd still make the playoffs. From 3rd last to 1st...what a story!

Haha, I like it! Nerf Schedule.

Funny thing is, 'nerfing', at least in the context of online games, means making that particular character/item less powerful in some way. So there is some irony to that term.

Of course, 'Nerfherder' is a Star Wars reference, and has nothing to do with spongy balls.

Just when I thought I was out, I win 6 straight, but like I said back then, I need to win out to have a chance.

I am actually 1.64 ahead of Taxman and I play him this week. Also play Coyotes. Both have a worse record than me, so if I don't win I have no one to blame but myself. If I score a lot of points, I just have to beat Taxman it seems and I could even lose the other one.

Toral is the team to beat right now.

It is late in the season to ask, but when do the players that are currently locked become available?

The Titans of New York can only make the playoffs on total points, but if they make it, they have a decent chance.
Kerry Collins should be back enabling Chris Johnson to run like he is capable, Antonio Gates is not fully healed, but is playing, and Hakeem Nicks should be back in 1-2 weeks.
So Judy, it does not matter if I beat you as long as my FP total is high.

You are very lucky that Rosenhaus is messing with DJax mind these days -- we can remember what he did to TO. I might have/should have had about 10-15 more if DJax was clicking.

Rumors here are that Rosenhaus is telling the Eagles (yeah -- right about that one) not to let him return punts and do crossing routes due to injury potential and to pad his stats so he gets a lot of $$$$. What a jerk! The sad thing too is that we already would have resigned him if the labor issues did not exist. The Eagles attack is more balanced and frankly, although he is a nice deep threat, we really do not NEED him to win games. He is a nice "fluff" now. I do not see drafting him before rounds 4/5 next year (if there is one) unless he steps it up a bit. McCoy is turning into Montgomery/Westbrook #2.

Montgomery Burns!

But seriously. Jackson is important to the Eagles offense because he stretches the field, keeps the DB's from loading the box, and allows for all the underneath stuff to happen. Having two guys like that is perhaps a luxury, but if you can swing it, why not? The Eagles are the most balanced offense in the NFC right now, and probably the best.

I needed more from Maclin last night, but Schaub and Dreesen were fine. If I ever needed that 30-pointer from MJD, it's this week.

Wilbert!! I still remember than opening play 60+ (?) run from scrimmage vs Dallas a while back!!

And, yes, DJax does stretch the field, but I am seriously worried about Rosenhaus influence. Apparently DJax dad died in May and several Eagles players have tried to be an adult male role model support system for him...

I understand that these agents are a go between for the players -- esp those who have no clue how to manage finances, but I seriously think that a lot of them are up to no good -- Rosenhaus and Boras especially.

I asked because I'm in a long-suspended Strat-O-Matic football league which may be revived. We were in 1977, and I'm managing the Eagles -- but these Eagles were an expansion team, so that all the Eagle players as of the time we entered the league (1976) were already on other teams. The Rams own Ron Jaworski, for example.

So Wilbert will be the first Eagle star of that era I own. I'm really looking forward to having him in 1978, because we stink in 1977.

I have never had any luck with my 1st round draft picks in RIFC. I picked Shawn Alexander as a #1 the year he broke his foot, Tom Brady as #4 in the 1st round the year he broke his leg, and this year Chris Johnson who has broken the hearts of all of us who picked him as a #1.

Judy, I know that you and the 2nd place finisher as well as the winner of the playoffs will advance to RIFC 2011 ( The players will cave in and there will be a full season.), but what are the criteria for staying in AAA next year?

From original GURU post:

Each league will have 14 teams, so we will need to fill 28 AAA slots. I recommend that the following priorities be used in filling those slots:

RIFC teams not returning to the RIFC.
Seven teams from each AAA league (5 of those making the playoffs, plus two others)
All AA playoff teams (excluding the winner, which is already in the RIFC)

324 -- I got lucky - lost Finley and P Thomas has not played since week 3, Britt since he torched the Iggles, and DJax and Brees have not played as hoped, but Foster has been stellar as has been Akers, given the Iggles red zone TD woes.
Woodhead and McCourty are my best FA pick ups; maybe Pettigrew as well.
My other guys are good, not great, but consistent. Plus I really work to get good IDP points.

I figured the easiest path for me is Slowhand to beat TD. Then I need to score 5.7 more points than Toral. That's Welker vs. Pace.

The only other way I can see getting in is if Slowhand's players bomb, and he only scores 20 or less. Even then, Welker must stay within 2 points of Slowhand's three players combined. That's a tall order.

It's terribly complicated!

Playoff berths have been seeded. Check for accuracy if you wish!

Note that in the consolation, the three winners move on and so does the highest scoring losing team. (So ignore the ref v ref matchup.) The other 2 losing teams (hate to use the term "loser") will play for the 13/14 spot in the second week.

Nerf I can only sympathize with. The schedule luck was bad enuf. But then on the last day, Slowhand scores exactly enuf, within a small window, to screw him two ways. He passes Nerf in points, but not with enuf to win the game, which would have put him into the top 6, knocked me out of it, and allowed Nerf into the playoffs on points over me.

What can I say. Is it possible that in the long run you will remember this more fondly than an ordinary season where you missed the playoffs, or if you had barely snuck in and then got knocked out in the first round?

And "Nerf Sked" (I think it's better to shorten it) will forever be used to denote the toughest PA sked against. Or an especially brutal and arbitrary schedule.

I can also see TD (up 14.38) winning out...unless TD's Ravens bomb and Dickson and Pollard shine for Toral...

Congrats to the winners and here is the next round:

EVERYONE PLAYS THIS WEEK!!

We rank from 1 to 14.

For 13/14 place:
ref vs footwedge

Plate special (first round losers from champs -- ignore the seeding numbers -- loser plays other loser in same bracket).
Plate special determines places 5 through 8 (2 more rounds each):
slowhand vs mjd
RIFC vs Toral

Consolation reseeding. Consolation tournament sets up rankings 9 - 12. In theory, HOLT should play the winner with the lowest score (nerf), but that leaves cc and dpr playing each other again. I have asked GURU for advice.

By the way thanks to all for a great season!

from GURU:

If a repeat matchup would result, then I shift the teams. Since dpr is the best seed remaining, give him Holt (#6), and let CC play nerf.

Done.

Playoff brackets for this week are all set! Good luck to all.

Well TD and Judy, this was more Choke at the Meadowlands rather than another Miracle at the Meadowlands. I was at the game, and after the punt return for the TD no one, except for the small number of Eagle fans, got up from their seats. We were all in a state of disbelief. I concede. The Eagles are the better team, and Michael Vick can play like Superman and carry the team by himself, although his supporting cast was also superb.

As Yogi Berra would say, this was an episode of "deja vu all over again." In 2003 Brian Westbrook returned a punt for 85 yards with 1:16 remaining as the Eagles beat the Giants 14-10. I was there then too.

TD, I managed myself right out of the playoffs. I benched Santana Moss because McNabb was benched, and Moss put up 19.10 FPs. I had a chance to beat you had I played him, but it looks like you have me in fantasy football as well.

That Eagles game was the most unbelievable finish I have ever seen in the NFL. The only other time I can remember seeing a 'walk-off' punt return TD was James Madison 3 years ago in an FCS game.

Vick is what I remembered Randall Cunningham as. Cunningham is the reason why I am an Eagles fan.

And today I found a DeSean Jackson sportspick action figure. It seems fitting.

Yeah -- it turns out that the djax return won me the rifc game -- I left 99 points on the bench with one guy left to play.
With Allen out now, I can play Mccourty again -- he was game time and I was not near a Computer at that point. Chaney was awesome for a rookie signal caller in his first start. Bradley should be worried about his position for 2011.

Yep no 4th team in RIFC from this league.

As for Vick, it is not surprising he was undrafted. He was the backup QB, and as the backup last year he was fairly awful, even when asked to run in wildcat formations.

Everyone now wants to have drafted him, along with Hillis and Lloyd. But what can you do? I had high waivers at the beginning of the season but I didn't even take a chance on them then.

Looking at the finals matchup, I can see the following interesting features and a possible long wait until the outcome is known:

at 1:00 TD has Law Firm and Ghostwood has Woodhead... that's a crap shoot as to who will get the GL carries for New England...

GW has 4 in the Sunday night game: DJax, Akers, Chaney and Iggles DST
TD is done except for Ryan and Colston left for Monday night...

It looks like the Monday night game will pit Ryan and Colston vs Brees if the score is close. So for my benefit, Brees needs to throw TD's, but not to Colston!! (I would also appreciate it if Brees does not throw to the falcons DST...)

Judy, you are right about Manning, at least for 2010. He regressed this season, but I think his underlying talent can be brought out by a new QB coach or an off season with Archie and Peyton. I am a Giants fan who likes the Eagles primarily because Vick is so exciting to watch. I will root for them in the playoffs once the inevitable happens and the Giants are eliminated. Vick paid his debt for his crimes, and I have no problem rooting for him.

Congrats on the winning the league Judy.

Disappointing game for the Eagles. I don't like the Eagles chances heading into the playoffs. They need to correct some problems on offense, and will not use the opportunity this week to correct them.
Reid has a history of not risking injuries to key starters in meaningless games. I don't expect to see much of Vick or McCoy or any starters recovering from injuries this week with the short rest.

Have a great rest of the winter, root for the Iggles if you can (although they looked dreadful last night... still don't get it how Brady does not ever get touched and Vick gets creamed in the pocket -- there has to be a way to fix that...), and I'll be contacting you about the baseball season in March!
