Way too early. Eagles will have only one game completed for example. Move at least to Friday...maybe untimed until Monday the 27th.
Gotta make sure the new guys understand how to use queues so as not to delay the draft though...need 2/3/4 rounds per day minimum.

No guarantee this league will draft as fast as Judy's AAA, traditionally a very fast drafting league, or RIFC. Waiting till the 27th might make it hard to be ready for Opening Day.
Maybe something in the middle like Thursday August 23rd or Friday August 24, with a long clock until Monday.

Need to set the draft order in MFL.
Toral --almost everyone in this league has been in RIFC before -- the only name I do not recognize is louky --, so I would expect that the draft would go at a decent pace.
I am OK with opening it Sunday around noon with an official clock to start Monday at 6 am. I doubt we will need a clock unless some one has an unexpected "life event" -- like one guy who went to the hospital with a heart attack and had to draft from there -- true story!!

Or just open it Friday, but put no pressure on the guys at the top to pick...they could post to let us know if they are ready to pick early. Could get a couple of rounds out of the way that way... maybe?

It has been a LONG time since I have done anything related RIBC, RIFC etc... basically anything RI. Can someone break down everything for me? Maybe it will help someone else also. I have never used the website we are using for the draft. Is it just as good as kafentited? IE: User friendly, Prerank's, Designated pickers etc.
Is there a automated email that is sent when it's your turn to pick? Or is it your responsibility to keep checking in to see if your up, or at-least close to pick etc.
Basically is there a "RIFC League for Dumbies" guide out there? lol
:)

I was checking out our league website. To say it's overwhelming... That would definately be a understatment. I am used to Yahoo, pretty much all I have ever used since the beginning.
Couple of questions. I was looking around, changing logos, names etc. Added phone number, text messages etc.
I logged back to the league main page and had 2 things on the front page that said I still must do.
1. Pick my survivor pick for the week 2. Do my confidence pick for the week
Are these just optional extra things for the fun of the league? Do they determine anything at all? I think it's cool that they are there, but basically I am assuming it is just a side game and has no bearing of the real intent of the league?
Like I said in previous post. I am far behind the curve when it comes to using this site and RIFC leagues. Drafting, Fantasy Football I have no problem with, just seems like there is so much to do on the site Dave uses for RIFC leagues.
*Side Note I am not knocking it at all. I assume he uses the site because no other site out there has as much customization needed to fit all the rules that RIFC uses.

wolfer -- that sounds like a plan, but let's ask the top folks if they do plan to pick or not. Say, I at #7 am gonna wait until Monday, I gotta post that in the thread here so folks don't get mad that I am not drafting...
Also remember to program your team to receive the draft alerts: go to for owners-->franchise set up--> contact info.
You absolutely need to check the "when I am on the clock for my draft" button. The button above that is nice to as it lets youknow what is happening via email, so you don't have to keep going to MFL.
Also remember that if you have a name in the pre draft list, the computer will take the top name automatically, so make sure it is really what you want to do.

No designated pickers. Pop players into the slot and the computer automatically takes the top guy. Go to for owners-->draft to make lists for each round.

hey guy, just an fyi, Mike is out of town for 2 weeks. He left yesterday. I can text him or email his work email address (he's a co-worker of mine)
I'm pretty sure he'll be checking in sporadically but if it appears he's MIA, shoot me a message.
Is there a way to make a person not in the draft a co-manager to assist? If so I can help out more pro-actively. Mike will be in training courses for most days and may not be able to log in often.

I have to admit, I am lost. I set up everything, I got emails, and texts on picks. Then things dissapeared. I don't even know where to go on the website to make my pick when it's my turn..
I miss the ole days of...
1.08 Ray Rice, RB, BALT
Things seemed a lot more organized then. I guess once I get used to MFL website, it will like second nature.

If it were August 4th, I would say no clock, but its 8/24. We have way to many picks to go through. A clock is a must. With that said. I just woke up, I seen it is my turn. I will pick shortly. Someone going to make a new thread for draft discussion? Or are we just going to use this one?

Sounds good Wolfer. Like I said in previous post, it's been years since I have done a RIFC league. Isn't there a thread where we explain or picks? Why we drafted him at the time etc? I know we do that after a few rounds have passed though. Ya used to put who ya picked, why ya picked him, if someone fell to you, if you thought you reached, your initial strategy etc. I always remember Guru asking us to do that. Does that still happen? I always found that to be interesting.
|
89 | Toral

That still happens, but only the top RIFC league insists on it; the AAA leagues have such threads, but not everybody participates, and it's more usual for managers to post 5 rounds in a time; AA leagues recetnly haven't had rationale threads.

That is actually mandatory in the RIFC. For the AA and AAA it is optional. I will do a recap thread. If no one objects, its proably safer to keep the clock off for this weekend only. So please check in and make queues.

The clock is your timeframe to make your pick in. When its your turn you have x hours (league commish can confirm exact time). If you do not make your pick in the allotted time frame it moves on to the next pick and you are skipped. You may make your skipped pick at any time, but others will have had a chance to pick ahead of you and if they take who you wanted....well you can always offer them a trade for their player. :)

Judy, I do high school football and Basketball in the state of Georgia. BB has 5 meetings , yearly 3 day camp, and yearky exam. Football has 10-12 meetings, yearly 1 day camp, 1 exam. Its worth it though to get on the field/court. What sport(s) do you do?

I do HS Field Hockey and HS and DII and DIII Lacrosse. PIAA requires an interp and 6 meetings, one of which must be a "play day". Written exams are yearly, on field testing varies with renewal from 1 to 4 years, depending upon skill.
I guess I should not feel so bad about meetings... I tried BB but did not like it and it interfered with training for squash in the winter season.

I apologize for the last 2 rounds, I think most can a-test to my drafting and leaving ques. Promize just ran one and I don't think I had any delays. Truth be told, this website sucks. There is to much of nothing. I swear I save my ques, but then it goes to round specific, or it doesn't or maybe it runs out. I don't know. Either way I apologize for the delay. Also where is the timer? I don't see one anywhere on the website. When does it pause etc? None of this information I don't see. It's not your guys fault for ignorance of trying to figure out MFL draft site, but I obviously seem to not be doing something right =0
I agree with post 112, a 14 hour clock is way to long. I am find with a shorter clock for me in general, since it I ran out of time and got skipped by 6 picks already, which isn't a big deal. I am not mad. That is how the slow draft goes, ya can't wait forever. I am going to talk to WG, i talk to him regularly in a baseball league. Maybe he can help me out, ill send him my ques and he can make my pick for me. If ya want to shorten the clock, I am all for it. If ya wanna shorten it just for me, since from looking at times, it looks like I am the culprit here, put me on a shorter clock. Either way, I like to apologize to the league for my delay and still figuring out this site ;)
Maybe its my master draft strategy? lol
Sorry guys, heading to the website now to pick and try to set a que for next one. :)

Yes -- and they are always 16-18 years old and I get older each year. It is actually becoming an issue as the average age of the refs is mid 40's (I am well beyond that!!). The only saving grace is that after dashing down the field for 70 yards at breakneck speed, they do not fast break to goal, but rather STOP and settle to run a play --which is good for me, so I can get there, but I personally do not understand the strategy if you have the break...to me, take it...

The huge issue with the website is that if you have a Q in round 4 and you click on round 5 in the draft home page to make a Q, it takes you to round 4!!! I mess up on that all the time. for 5
you have to be really careful what round you are messing with.
Also, once a player has been picked, he is NOT deleted from your Q.
At the end of this draft we all need to send in a "comment" to the web designers. These are easy fixes computer wise...
I also do not like that the draft grid is by manager not by position. You cannot tell how many have been picked at each slot.
That's why I prefer drafttime, but the drawback there is adding the players to the rosters, but as a commish, it really only takes about an hour once the draft is done.

We went over this last year, just have to order the franchises to match the draft order. Also, as I mentioned last year or the year before, I think the reason players aren't deleted from the queue is for if picks get changed. There's no reason to delete them from the queue on the backend either, it can only create issues by doing so.

Should have been set up on the main page for everyone. You can also customize your home page and add it in. That and it's under For Owners on the top menu dropdown menu.

Bonka, I won't take that as a shot, but I disagree with your statement. The site is slow, old in design, and to even users that are better than average with a computer just plain disorganized. Like I said, it's my 1st year using the website. So far I think it sucks. Doesn't mean I won't change my mind, but first impression is there is to much garbage and not enough of what you need.

I see MFL's self-appointed press agent is here with us again this year.
MFL is very unintuitive. There's a lot on the site if you feel like conducting expeditions to find things.
It's a detriment that drafted players aren't removed from your queues.

So contact them about it. Don't complain to a person who has used the site for years and has had essentially no major issues with it. Also find a site that has a better UI, is just as powerful, and the same price point or lower than MFL and let me know so I can check it out.
JTSERB, yes, the UI at MFL is not very good. I'm surprised they still haven't made things more intuitive. It's a good site once you get used to it and there are plenty of people around here that should know their way around it by now. You can also search through their help page if you need to find something and it's usually helpful. The site isn't slow though. Maybe slow to find what you're looking for when new, but not loading wise.

Does any one besides me think we need to pick the pace up. Since the first pick was made on Monday, there have been a total of 27 in two days. I realize the day isn't over, but we are on a 1 round per day pace, we never will come close to finishing, under the assumption we want to be done by game time on 9/5. Even two rounds a day doesn't get us there.
We had one time out, one near time out and are 1 hour away from another.

RE 114. Same with JV Football where we only run 4 man crews. The Wings (guys on either side of the line at the snap) have to cover all passes and long runs. More and more some of the large schools are going to spread offenses and even no huddles. keeps and old guy like me in shape.
RE Draft site. It is quite convoluted. Takes a lot of time to set up a queue, and then remove guys from said queue when drafted. W/O access at work I have to try to play catch up on the days events when I get home. and set up two or three queues for the next day. I do try to slip by the library at lunch to check in but its a hard site to log into as well (no login spot on the home page for example). I imagine its also difficult to navigate for those of you who are checking in by smart phone as well. All said though, its a lot better than I would have done.

the MFL grid is awful. I need to see it with positions across the top and managers along the side. That way I can tell right away who needs -- say a TE -- and know if I need to draft one now or if I can wait...
The MFL grid is not a grid; it is a list.

I set my next to rounds and put a lot of players there. I shouldn't time out and it should auto pick the player. I really hope we finish by Monday at the latest. I am set for my next 2 picks in my QUE. I am pretty sure, it won't be emptied. With that said. Unless this draft picks up at a rapid pace. I will be gone starting this Sunday Sep 3rd until at a min of Sep 10th. I have a job call for a railroad and will be without access at all. I might be gone for 1 week, I might be gone for 2. I am not sure how long it will be. I know I will be back at the LATEST 2 months.
I am going to need a favor from the commish to set my lineup and possibly finish out the draft for me if we don't finish by Sunday afternoon. In regards to week 1 lineup, I can set that myself on Sunday, but for the league competivness I am going to need the commish to set my lineups each week, until I am heard from again via email or on here etc. It sucks, I am going to miss out on the most important waiver period of the year, but obviously real life and making money comes first.
Commish can you please email me so we can discuss how we can resolve the issue?
Thanks,
JT

I also had a lot of trouble with the draft site- I am one of those people who really needs things to be intuitive- I do not take the time to read, use help or learn- I expect to be able to figure things out using logic? At any rate on numerous occasions I had queues selected but they didn't auto pick- also why the need foir choosing the same queue multiple times, pre-draft queue doesn't carry over to rounds, has to be reselected, can't pick players in round queues unless already in pre-draft queues etc. If it wasn't so redundant some of these features might be nice but only if drafted players autonmatically removed. Anyway fortunately it is over and we made it in time. Good luck to all- Judy I would again like to thank you for the special cat logo/poem - I do appreciate it every time I go to this site,

The timing of the draft wasn't the best for me. I was training 4 new reps, and on the road all of last week. when I returned home, I discovered (1 round too late) that I'm short a DB to field a line up. DUH! Never having played this format I'm not sure how to pick up a free agent. I put a bid in of $1.00 ( not sure what that implies either) but nothing has happened. 1 Round of bidding. then FAs. Players who are dropped may be piocked up immediately (when free-agents reopen for bidding).

Basically I thought I pre-drafted for all the final rounds but turns out I didn't (obviously). Sorry to the folks at home.

Plus those Gurley picks where Gnarley and just frazzled my mind like a weekend bender with Jason Kidd and Amanda Bines.

Okay, when he told me what his issue was, he told me it would be only a couple of weeks. However, since he is still AWOL, I have asked Guru to take over.

I need to free up a couple roster spots due to bye weeks. Stephens-Howling, David Harris and Josh Cribbs are available. May be easiest if I receive your worst player along with waiver $.

Been a wild ride. From 2nd down to 6th and, given my pathetic point total, probably on the way out of the playoff picture.
BTW could you guyz at least update your logos? There are guyz who have just let logos from last year representing guyz who are no longer in the league -- Taxman and Loki -- sit there.

Looking for a QB -- receivers James Jones, Lance Moore, Andre Roberts and Greg jennings are available for a quality #2 QB, of the Sam Bradford, Palmer/Romo, Freeman, Fitzpatrick level. Add an RBBC or solid backup RB and I might send you 2 of them.

Oh and I will of course add Alex Smith as well, who is a quite serviceable backup. He might well be OK to play by Monday night but I don't want to take the chance.

Crumbs. I want to bid an amount that has cents in it -- like $7.01 but it won't let me in AA the way I can in AAA...

I will again be running the playoff game by MFL. The basic rule is that you can use each player (QB, RB, WR, TE, K, DST once over the course of the playoffs.
So. For example, if you use both Brady and Rodgers in their first games you cannot use them again and might be without a QB for the super Bowl. So ya gotta plan.
I will send out my info when our fantasy season is over, but wanted you to know that your fantasy fix can continue!
Watch this space for announcements. Last year I think we had ~ 20 teams (you can have two!)

The 2012 MFL NFL Playoff Challenge is up and running.
The basic rule is that you can use each player (QB, RB, WR, TE, K, DST only once over the course of the playoffs.
So. For example, if you use both Brady and Rodgers in their first games you cannot use them again and might be without a QB for the super Bowl. So ya gotta plan.
Invitations to last year's managers were sent out today.
If you do not want to play this year, please let me know and I will delete your team(s). If you have (non RIFC) friends who want to play, have them email me (swimichel@mac.com) and I will send out an invitation.
You can have up to two teams!
Last year's winner was Promizedawgs, with s_R second and Crabby Bills came in third.
