I wanted to get a thread up so we can hopefully get everything figured out for this year before we run out of time.

Things we need to do:

- find out who is staying/leaving and find replacements
- set keeper and draft dates
- send Guru your share to cover MFL fees
- get the keeper info up to date

It looks like we've lost Motley Crue and TB. There were a couple people offering to take over teams but I'm not sure how best to go about choosing replacements.

I'm thinking set the keeper deadline to Aug 23rd and start the draft on Aug 25th. That should give us plenty of time to get through the draft and run a round of waivers before the season starts on Sept 5th.

Thus far, I have received $5 dues from Bonka, Beezer, Oaktown Raiders, Doug, Judy, and mjd.

Still owing are GoatLocker, Da Bomb, IAC, Wiggs, Skeepers, and of course the two new teams TBD.

Let me know if you think I've missed your payment. It's possible.

Dates sound good. As far as how we choose replacements, either a random draw or vote works for me.

So I started a google docs spreadsheet for the keepers. I've only gone through my team and put players where they should be (including players I drafted that ended up elsewhere). The document is open to edit if you can and don't mind updating your own team if you know what you're doing. The less work on one person the better.

Players are listed where they would need to be kept this year. No need to mark players if they were keepers last year.

You haven't missed mine.
Being unemployed has kind of changed my priorities around.
Interviewed yesterday and now waiting on an offer letter after they get results of the urinalysis etc.
I'll get it taken care of hopefully this week.

Yeah I'll be doing other teams during free time. Will also check over what's been put in already. It is easy to mess things up or miss an error, so hopefully if I don't catch something, somebody else does.

Thanks to those who have entered their players in. Easier to double check than enter initially.

I haven't looked over everything yet, but I've noticed at least two instances where players were incorrectly marked as being a 24th round keeper because they were picked up on waivers after being dropped by another team. The only way a player's keeper status gets reset is if they go through a blind bidding period.

One example is Antonio Gates. He was dropped on a Wednesday to make room for a blind bid pickup. He was then picked up 3 hours later when FCFS opened up. Since he was picked up before he was able to go through a blind bidding period, he retains his keeper status (2nd round).

I went through your team just before. Not a problem if someone fills their team out and a few things need to be fixed.

Only 4 teams to go, then have to check over the ones I didn't enter. If anyone sees something that looks wrong or aren't sure about, post here about it and we'll figure it out.

I think we should set Aug 16th as the deadline for returning teams to confirm they are still playing. We will determine replacements that weekend before the keeper deadline the following Friday.

When is our keeper deadline and can I be reminded how many we get to keep? I recall a spreadsheet that showed where everyone was for last years draft.

Or is it still being worked on?

Just asking. Things are building to the season and with the phillies a total loss, I am focusing on football a bit earlier, although the little league World Series will hold my attention for a while...

We'll stick with the dates I mentioned originally I guess, so Aug 23rd for keepers and Aug 25th to start the draft.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AiXS_aw03EcRdHZFSlJXVkJaU0x6c2JqX2JvOXUzVVE&usp=sharing

That link is the spreadsheet. It's not 100% done, I have 2 or 3 teams to check over still to make sure they were entered correctly, and hopefully I didn't make any errors myself. You can save it to view on your computer in excel/open office and a few other formats I think as well.

Get to keep 6 players total, up to 5 offense.

I think I've checked all the keeper entries in the spreadsheet now. Hopefully there are no mistakes. I would like to mention Guru is the worst cheater I've ever seen. Outside of his 1st and 24th rounders, all his players were wrong. The thing is, he had them listed a round earlier than they needed to be kept. Obviously was looking at the actual row numbers rather than the round numbers I entered manually :)

I contacted skeepers via email and he said he will be returning, he's just busy at the moment. So we need to replace Motley, TB, and Wiggs. There were 3 people who mentioned they were interested in taking over a team if possible. So I guess unless those 3 aren't willing to chip in their share or anyone here has objections, we can get the 3 who have already offered to take over teams as replacements. I'm thinking I can randomly order them 1 through 3 to let them select which team they take over (or what team they're left with for number 3).

I removed Hunter since he wasn't rostered in week 13 and that's the week where 'final' rosters are determined. Also just noticed this, which means apparently he shouldn't have been IR'd to begin with:

Players acquired during the playoffs (anytime after the final game of NFL Week 13) are not eligible for IR.

Not entirely sure why that rule is in the bylaws. Seems redundant since players have to be rostered by week 13 and kept throughout the playoffs to be keeper eligible.

Da Bomb and I also discussed Gore last preseason, but couldn't find a way to get anything done. As it turned out, Gore was very dependable all year, ranked as the #11 RB in this format in total points, so I was happy I held on.

I drafted Gore as my first pick in the inaugural season of this league, so he's been with my team forever. However, I decided to retain Bernard Pierce as my 2nd RB this year (in lieu of pick #19). Since I only have two keepers who command first round picks this year (Rodgers, Rice), I'm effectively getting a 3rd and 6th round pick in return for my 10th plus Pierce as my 19th. Gore could easily outproduce that trade combo this season, but I decided to get younger while he still had some residual value.

I still have Roddy White on the block, and would consider a similar trade offer for him.

Doh... Daryl Washington, Daryl Richardson... same thing, right? *blush* Sorry about that.

OK, one more point of clarification just looking through these... don't you have to use a round "better" if your pick is unavailable or you're already keeping one? Example above is AG's keeping of Cam and Stevie, both showing as round 6 on spreadsheet. If both are kept, that requires a 5th and 6th, no? (instead of a 6th and a 7th)

Yup, you use a round 'better', although if there is a 3rd pick in the same round, you then straddle the original round. Example, 3 6th round picks, you use 5, 6, and 7, not 4, 5, 6.

Never really understood that rule, but thems the rules.

Ok so we have issues here. boikin/skeepers has 1 extra keeper than is allowed and Joey/Graham Crackers only listed 4 (don't have to keep 6) but one of those 4 isn't even on his roster.

As of right now Joey will be keeping 3 players and I will select whoever has the higher ADP between Atkins and Hardy (I presume that would be Hardy).

I'll get the keepers entered at MFL some time Saturday afternoon.

Alright, I guess I see why. Your trade has 'round XX' draft pick rather than the exact draft pick and it just didn't translate over automatically. There was one other trade this happened with as well. Should be fixed in a few minutes.

Well this is cute. The first pick got timed out because the system thinks he timed out due to me entering the keeper picks yesterday. Really lame and no idea how it's even avoidable.

I was able to revert the pick without messing up all the keepers as well (big sigh of relief). WG is back on the clock. Sorry to Vampire for his pick going off and being reverted, but I didn't know this was going to happen. Luckily I woke up and checked the draft quickly rather than getting up when I was planning to a few hours later.

Clock will remain off until the first pick is made, since even if I revert the draft, it times him out again. Once the pick is made we should be safe in putting the clock back on and proceeding.

I put in a ticket to MFL asking how to avoid this as it's a pretty big issue. I don't think it's happened before since we used to start early untimed and last year the 1.01 was the first pick rather than the 1.04.

Need to post here or email me who you'd like as a replacement for the skipped pick before actually making your next selection, otherwise it could go in to a few queued picks and make a mess.

Alright well, there's only one pick after his next time out before the draft gets to me and I'm not going to leave a queue. That way when I get on in the morning I'll see if he's shown up or not and go from there. I'd like to avoid having a whole bunch of picks run off before he shows up. May need to fill out his starting lineup by ADP if he doesn't show up. Probably the fairest solution.

I'm thinking if a team does miss two straight picks, when their third pick comes up they would be awarded a starting lineup filling ADP selection to replace their first missed pick and continue rolling from there.

After thinking about it, it's probably more fair to keep it that he's only 1 pick behind at a time, especially when he may not have another pick in the following round. So right now I'm going to give him the best ADP pick to fill a starting position and continue to do so each time he's up until he returns.

In this case, that is Roddy White.

I do not think we should pick for him, since he might be given a player that one of us next in line would want. Given his team so far, who knows who he would pick.
I vote to skip this pick as well 20.06.
The draft is really getting held up here.

I'll be giving him the top ADP pick for a position he still needs a starter in place of his missed pick right now. We can't not give him someone since I've already stated how we'd handle missed picks this year. Maybe his next queue didn't run out and it'll move once he comes up as well.

[175] Frankly, at this stage of the draft, I wouldn't even bother giving him a player. Let him fill remaining openings via free agency if needed.

You approach made sense in the early rounds. It seems unnecessary now.

Blind bidding will run until Wednesday at 12pm eastern then FCFS will start at 3pm.

I also switched us to conditional blind bidding to follow suit with RIFC. There are rounds just like normal waivers, but the rounds are only placeholders for your player groupings. You will only get 1 player per round. Also If your highest overall $$$ bid is your top priority rather no matter what round it is in. If you bid $100 in round 4, you'll be getting that player and won't get the guy you bid $5 for in round 1 even if nobody else bid on him.

Last year NFL owners voted for a shift in injured reserve that MFL has also adopted for our purposes.

Under the rule a player can be placed on injured reserve after Sept. 4, which doesn't end his season and allows him to return after six weeks.

This has never been discussed as something we want to allow or not.

However, it has technically been in effect since last year on MFL, though I don't recall anyone using it to this point.

I think this is pretty straightforward except for one new situation:

- any player on NFL IR can be put in the IR slot
- all our rules about draft round for next year still apply

The only new situation is what to do once the player comes off NFL IR. I suggest that once a player comes off NFL IR, the owner of that player must either drop the player or move him into an eligible roster spot by the start of the next waiver period. Otherwise, he will be dropped before the blind bid deadline. The player must go through a full waiver cycle without being picked up to revert to a 24th round pick.

Are there other considerations we need to account for?

1. I would not have dropped Andre Brown if I knew I could put him on IR and then reactivate later this season. I assumed that our rule for IR was that a player in the IR slot was stuck there.

2. Having said that, I've now got Shane Vereen in the same situation. I'd be happy to put him in my IR slot - but only if I can reactivate him when he comes back. Seems like we need either a vote or at least a Commissioner decree that this is acceptable. I'm not putting him in the IR slot unless I have the opportunity to reactivate him.

Sorry, I was visiting my uncle and went to the Dolphins/Colts game on Sunday (Dolphins fan!!). I told mjd last week before I left that I figured it would be ok to put the short term IR guys on IR but they have to be removed once they come off the NFL IR.

The bylaws don't mention anything about not being able to drop IR'd players and put another in their place, and that's a similar situation to this. That said, this has only been implemented since I think last year, so the bylaws wouldn't cover it. I'm ok with it either way and am fine if we put it to a league vote if enough people have an issue with being allowed to use the IR temporarily for the short term IR players.

How does this sound for the language for such a poll:
In 2012, the NFL amended the rules to allow one player per team to be on "Injured Reserve-designated for return." It is possible to reactivate such a player later in the season (after 8 games).

Our league (and hosting site) allows for a player on injured reserve to be moved in an IR slot (one per roster). How should the league adapt to an "IR-designated for return" player being reactivated?

A. Do not allow a "IR-designated for return" player to be placed in an IR spot. (This would need to be manually monitored and enforced.)

B. Allow a "IR-designated for return" player to be placed in an IR slot, but do not allow that player to be directly reactivated during the current season. If/when the player is reactivated by the NFL, he must either remain on the team's IR slot or be dropped, and cannot be added back to that same team's active roster until he has cleared one waiver claiming period.

C. A reactivated IR player must either be placed back on the active roster or released in the same week he is activated by the NFL team.

D. A reactivated IR player must either be placed back on the active roster or released prior to the first (Wednesday noon) waiver claiming period following his activation by the NFL.
I'm not sure what the exact timing of official reactivation is likely to be, so maybe options C or D will need some tweaking.

Just going with what I said earlier with allowing it then forcing the players to be removed from IR when the NFL does. So C/D. We can get everyone to vote on this. I think 3 days would be good for a time limit to get the players activated/dropped.

Yeah 9 out of 9 looks good to me. This was what was voted as the best option:

A reactivated IR player must either be placed back on the active roster or released within 3 days of the date he is activated by the NFL team

As far as full lineups go, everyone should do their best to be competitive since if it's obvious a team is tanking, they'd like be replaced. That said, sometimes injuries and byes can put you in a really tough spot where you'd be hurting your team and strengthening another by dropping someone who should be rostered to just have a bye/injury replacement. I think it's really hard to get to that point though, you'd need a lot of injuries and byes stacked up.

If you're worried about your team this week IAC, I see 2 WRs easily droppable which should cover most of your issues. But, I say do what you think is best. I wouldn't think you weren't being competitive.

Boikin's (skeeper's) lineup was not complete this week, likely due to the trade and him traveling. I could have set a lineup for him prior to the games being played but I didn't realize I needed to do this. Since there are toilet bowl implications, I feel it's only fair to retroactively set his lineup. He is missing a RB and a DE/DT. Peppers is the only choice for the DE/DT and RB is between Powell and Green-Ellis. Powell was the higher ranked projection this week from the source I use and likely who I also would have started.

I haven't done anything yet, but I do think Peppers and Powell should be inserted in his lineup. This would give skeepers the win over Vampire, affecting the bottom of the standings. If anyone has an issue with this please speak up.

I know we've discussed this before without resolution , but I think we need to finally come up with a viable solution to the 9th-10th place dead zone.

Incentives to lose are never a good thing for any league.

Well, I'm confused...the team who actually benefits from me doing this doesn't want it to happen.

A solution to the 9th/10th place teams being left out of everything can be include them in the toilet bowl and give the 13th and 14th place teams a first round bye. It still gives incentive to lose at the end of the season but I'm not really sure how we can avoid that.

I think the rationale for this format was that the 9-10 teams were sufficiently better than the 11-14 teams that (a) they'd have a greater likelihood of winning toilet bowl, and (b) be teams less in need of the #1 pick.

Point (a) is compounded by the fact I was still basically building my team to try and compete and win right up to the end, trying to scratch into the playoffs. For a team already more-or-less eliminated a couple weeks ago, the reasonable strategic move was to stock up on players who might be good cheap keepers for next year even if they aren't good candidates this year. That further tips the scales in favor of teams in the 9/10 slot winning the toilet bowl.

As a current-year 9-10 team, I'd love a shot at the toilet bowl and the #1 slot... but I honestly don't think I deserve it.

If we want to make the change to having a 6 team toilet bowl with 2 byes it can always be implemented next year. I think implementing it is the better thing to do. I understand the reasoning for keeping those 2 extra teams out, but the bottom 2 teams get a bye and the bottom 4 teams aren't necessarily the 4 worst teams. It's much more fun for the 9th/10th place teams to have something to play for rather than being the only 2 out of 14 teams that don't.

Well, the crash and burn season is now (almost) complete. Last year, I was the #1 seed. This year, I finish the regular season at #14.

A lot was due to injuries - but not all:
Aaron Rogers: (missed 4 regular season games, plus the injury game where he only produced 1.98)

Andre Brown: preseason IR, I had to dump. Never played for me. (If I'd have known how the season would go, I might have kept him.)

Shane Vereen: IR after game one, although he came back recently. 8 games missed

Randall Cobb: IR after playing 4.5 games

Ray Rice: might as well have been injured for the production I got. Only cracked double digits three times. Andre Brown may very well exceed Rice in total points for the full season.

Vincent Brown: my 4th round pick. Averaged 3.4/game, with only one double-digit effort. I dumped him at his bye week.

In a way, it's probably just as well that all of this happened in one season.

Even if I prevail to win the Toilet Bowl, it seems to be of little consequence, since I'll probably sit out the first 3-4 draft rounds with keepers next season.

But I got next to nothing from Trent Richardson all year and I'm about to get nothing from Ridley in the playoffs. I had high hopes this year, but my top 3 picks/keepers (Foster, Sproles, Bowe) we're all pretty much busts... IMO that's what kept me out of the playoffs. You can lose one of your early picks, but having all 3 of them not really contribute is a bit too much. My 4-10 picks were all solid though, and I think I did reasonably well with FA pickups. Kaepernick also underperformed expectations at the QB spot, but at least I didn't spend a good pick on him (24th round keeper).

That is insane. 15th highest score in the past 4 seasons runs into the 13th highest score. Scoring adjustment is not out of the question so this may not be over yet.

Other crazy stats:
- WG has the highest score in consecutive games in 4 seasons, averaging over 194PPG.
- WG and Da Bomb this season have put up 7 of the top 19 games of the past 4 seasons.
- 4th highest combined points scored in the past 4 years.

It's a shame one of you had to lose, but I must admit to being happy that I wasn't playing either of you.

Nice stats Beezer. It also didn't help that I was winning after the game was over, but WG got a couple extra points overnight for TFL for Bruce Carter.

Good game Da Bomb... I only saw the score this morning as I wasn't around last night. Hell of a matchup.

Are add/drops still permitted this week and next?

This game is such luck. I have the third lowest score, but played the lowest score. Tough match dabomb and WG.

Matches my luck for in season TPA where I had the lowest average by five points, a huge margin...

I think I am in big trouble this week vs WG though...

This is weird. The last two winners were first timers to the league: WG and Ghostwood.
Maybe the vets are over thinking?

Nice job WG!!!

Thanks for the congratulations everyone! Sorry I didn't get to write sooner. Was a rather weird season for me... didn't think my team was very good in the beginning with my keepers like Brady and Amendola struggling and David Wilson going down. Wasn't able to check in for a while either except to set lineups but the team pushed through my negligence. Didn't really have a starting RB in my RB2 slot all year but good WR play helped overcome that mostly. All in all, a fun year and looking forward to trying to repeat next year!

Still need a fantasy "fix" after the regular season is over? MFL has a Fantasy League for the Playoffs.

We will use these players:
1 QB
2 RB
3 WR
1 TE
1 PK
1 DST

You can only use a player once during the playoffs. RIFC scoring rules are in effect. Total points at the end wins!

Wins WHAT? you ask. Nothing but bragging rights...
