6.14 - DeAngelo Williams, RB, Car
Ughh... I can't believe I drafted the always disappointing Williams, though the more I think about it, the more I'm fine with the pick. I wanted a 3rd RB with some stability given that Daryl Richardson is an unknown entity as a starting RB. Looking at the RB's available, Williams is one of the last remaining backs that should be good for 10-15 snaps per game out of the gate. Jonathan Stewart will start the season on the PUP list. Mike Tolbert and Cam Newton will certainly steal a bunch of Carolina's goal line toughdowns, but despite that, Williams will have every opportunity to carry the ball (at least during the first 6 weeks of the season until Stewart returns). One more benefit is that AP has an early bye week (5), so Williams won't have to content w/ Stewart on AP's bye.

7.01 - Tavon Austin, WR, Stl
Austin was one of the players that I had been targeting since the middle of the draft. I'm typically scared of rookie WR's and the uncertainty that they bring, Austin brings tremendous upside, with a floor that's much higher than most WR's due to the fact that he should be returning kicks and punts. I fully expect that Stl will force feed him the ball in several ways, so I'm least predicting the opportunities will be there, what he does with them, we'll see. Given Austin's all around game, I'm hoping he could be this seasons Randall Cobb, and if so, he's a bargain in the 7th round.

8.14 - Paul Posluszny, LB, Jax
I was hoping to grab one (or two) of the elite pass rushers in this spot and was specifically targeting either Jared Allen, JPP, or both. When neither was available I decided to wait on DL and grab the best IDP on the board. I generally prefer consistency with my IDP's, especially my LB's so there's no better fit than Poz. He's a tackling machine, and plays on a terrible team. Sounds like a recipe for 8-10+ tackles a game.

9.01 - Chad Greenway, LB, Min
Was very close to pulling a trigger on a WR3, but didn't think anyone carried 9th round value, so went with who I thought was the best player on the board. I picked Greenway for almost the exact same reason I picked Poz. Tackling machine, on a below average team. Was very close to picking Aldon smith instead, but I generally try to stay away from LB's who rely almost exclusively on big plays. I'd rather a consistent 10 pts a week, than 18 points one week and 2 the next.

10.14 - Michael Floyd, WR, Ari
I'm not sure I like the Floyd pick, but I was desperate for a WR3. I like Blackmon much better as a WR, but still needing a WR3, I was scared off by the 4 game suspension. Michael Floyd had a disappointing rookie season, but as the 2nd or 3rd option in Bruce Arians pass heavy offense, he should see a good number of targets. Larry Fitz will command most of the coverage, which hopefully means big things for Floyd.

6.07 Derrick Thomas, LB KC Time to start getting some IDP's, and Thomas has been one of the best the last couple seasons - He has the complete package at LB - tackler AND a playmaker. Should be a top 5 LB yet again.

7.08 Mark Ingram, RB NO I was a little lost on this pick as to what to go for, and then decided to try to get a backup RB. Ingram does get the playing time, even though he is on a pass-first offense. He is a solid pick, but the mistake I made is I did not realize he had the same bye-week as McFadden, which is going to require another RB pick later in the draft.

8.07 Josh Gordon, WR CLE Gordon had a very good season as a rookie last year, when WR typically struggle. As a second year player I am looking for him to improve and perhaps be that 8-9 ppg player as a WR3. I think he can do it. Through the 8th round I have 3 WR and 3 RB so I am looking pretty good at the skill positions.

9.08 Greg Hardy, DE CAR I forgot we use two DL in this league, so they were going fast and furious and I missed out on the one I wanted. I don't know anything about Hardy, but he had a good numbers last year so what the heck. I know I am going to have to get his linemate sooner than later.

10.07 Geno Atkins, DT CIN And that sooner is the next round. Atkins is probably the best interior DL in the league, his numbers are similar to many of the top DE's out there. Hopefully this continues and I have my DL's set for the season. DL was a weakness for me last year so I hope I can turn that around.

6.05 James Laurianitis, LB STL
I wanted to get a stud LB in this spot, before any runs began. No sense to get a QB now, as 13 teams have taken one. I have some time. I can't believe 13 teams have a QB by the 5th round.

7.10 Greg Olsen, TE CAR
I wasn't really planning to go for a TE here, but I wanted a veteran who I can "count on" to get some points weekly.

8.05 Cameron Wake, DL MIA
Wake can be a beastly DL. Hopefully second only to WATT himself. I wanted to get a good one. Last year I "wasted" a 5th round pick on Jared Allen, so he had left a sour taste in my mouth. Wake seems poised for a big season.

9.10 Eli Manning, QB NYG
Figured to get my "Man"ning before people started to go after their QB 2s. Last time I had Eli as my QB 1, I ended up getting Vick after week 1 and ELi rode the pine, and I rode Vick to RIFC big leagues. I wish I could see that happening again, but I suppose Eli himself is going to have to perform for me to get back to RIFC.

10.05 Danny Woodhead, RB SD
After taking RBs in 1 and 2, I have ignored the position. Not good in RIFC. Had to chase something here, and Woodhead seems capable to put up "some points" in any given week. In hindsight, maybe Thomas in 9 and Eli in 10 would have worked better. Rice's handcuff was gone a couple of rounds ago :(

6.08 Jermichael FInley, TE, GB - Would have taken Kuechly if he was still available, but thought after the first few LB that there were a lot of comparable selections, so defense can wait. Debated going Garcon or Bradshaw, but between this draft and G24, I've been going too heavy current or former Colts, and noticed that Finley looked like a good option. If he can revert to his touchdown totals from previous seasons (he only had 2 last year), this would have been a good selection.

7.07 Andrew Brown, RB, NYG Depth is the key at the RB position. I may have reached a bit here, but I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have made it back to me. Looking for him to split the load with Wilson and pilfer the TD chances in NY.
[followup - one broken leg later, and a lot of scrambling to get some other potential back-ups this pick doesn't look so good... ah well, last I read he was saying it was a minor break - whatever that means]

8.08 Jared Allen, DL, Min - Here's hoping that Allen is past the injury issues that hampered him last year. When at full-health, he can dominate a game and score some massive points for a D-Lineman. Was targeting JPP here, but will take Allen as a substitute.

9.07 Charles Tillman, DB, Chi - Wavering between Tillman and Gates with this pick. In retrospect, probably should have gone with Gates given that he was gone and no DB's went off the board by my next selection.

10.08 Vincent Brown, WR, SD - Wanted to round out my starters on the offensive side, had several middling WR's I was debating between including Emmanuel Sanders and Brown. In the end, I felt Brown has a larger role for his team.

6.01 Luke Kuechly, LB, CAR - For reasons I have not fully been able to re-create, I happened to be watching a preseason game where Luke was going nuts. My son said I had to take him…I said how can I take another IDP…is my goal to be in AA next season…he said that Luke was going to be a beast this year…Go big or go AA!!!!

7.14 Miles Austin, WR, DAL 8.01 Mike Williams, WR, TBB - Given that by this time I had already taken 2 IDPs, feeling pretty good about getting these 2 WR's here. Miles Austin supposedly trained differently during this past off season and has not even tweaked a hamstring yet which has to be some kind of record for him. Don't think Mike is going to explode this year, but hoping for some consistence decent week to week performance.

9.14 Aldon Smith, LB, SFO 10.01 Antonio Gates, TE SDC - Thought long and hard about getting another RB or WR with one of these 2 picks. Almost pulled the trigger on Bell as their were already reports that maybe he would not be out too long. Historically in these leagues however, I draft a bunch or RBs and WRs and then never have the right one on my roster for a particular week. Not wanting to risk the injury taking longer and not loving any of the WRs at the particular moment, went with another LB and hopefully a rejuvenated or at least serviceable Gates.
