I have to say I was hoping for a little more juju than what MJD and Ridley provided...I felt only slightly better than Steelers Nation after those performances...

I'm glad my team didn't give up after Peyton laid 46 points on me.

Feel sorry for crabby bills though -- you put up 185.78 points -- and lose.

My team was so bad it didn't matter I had QB/WR/DB going last night. They put up 48 and I still lost by 23 and 62. I'm kinda dreading the season now.

And after last week where only 2 RB rushed for over 100 yds...

Everyone is in search of that Holy Grail of double digit RB points.

i was pretty surprised to see Starks and Royal go for as much as they did, Starks especially.

i was happy to get Andre Ellington for 3 bucks, and was equally as surprised to see no one else bid on him.

I hate this... I have Sproles on one of my teams in another league and need him to have a big game to win in that league.

But in this league, Swing has him going against me, so I need him to do good, but not too good.

A decent game by Jimmy Graham would be helpful.

re:31 I'm pretty sure a defensive player only gets credit for the safety if they tackle the player in the endzone. Manning was never tackled, he fumbled the ball out of the end zone. Assuming Mathis got a sack + forced fumble but no safety.

Mathis did get credit for that safety. Gave me a well needed win to bump me into the top 6, instead of a 0.1 point loss.

Still a ways to go yet, but I doubt I'll make the playoffs on points.

I see your point J, but both Guru and myself agree that an obvious error such as this should be reversed. It has always been handled as such.

No one pick up V Davis or T Gipson while I figure out how to do this.

No one would intentionally drop Vernon Davis. For the record, Fugazi only has internet through his phone right now (and it's not 4G). MFL is not phone friendly at all (especially when it comes to adds and drops). I'm surprised he even tried to go through the claims process, as often as his connection times out on him.

It's Vernon Davis, not some scrub. Davis is #50 overall in points scored. You have to go all the way down to #386 overall for the best TE available. No one in their right mind would intentionally cut one of their best players like that.

what's weird is that in reviewing the transactions, i don't even see the original drop.

i see letter j dropping davis, and fugazi picking him up. when the reversal happens, does it delete the original transaction?

either way, i don't see how anyone can feel screwed by this. accidents happen, and when they do, reversing them is the right call.

and anyone who has used their phone for MFL transactions knows that it's not that difficult to make a mistake.

good call commish. you did the right thing.

Speaking as an outside observer... I find this quite unfortunate; I would hope that if I sincerely slipped up while using my cell phone, that it would be over-ruled; however, I find it takes a little away from the legitimacy / competitive spirit of these leagues when something like this happens.

I personally only play FF on RotoGuru most years, and don't know much about many of the other options, but I can see why some might be interested in the "pay league style". Where we are all just #s, and trying to find ways of maximizing our teams w/o thought to other managers.

I guess that's why the "Smallworld" formula of Fantasy Baseball (which originally brought me to RotoGuru), was so successful. Find a system and try your best to exploit it (the system, not an opponent), or devise a different strategy. Whereas in head to head, in this style of league, it is more about winners & losers, and many of us have too big an ego to accept being the latter.

My suggestion to some, might be "TRY to Commish" one year or two? It definitely changes your perspective on how hard it can be to keep managers active & interested, all the while keeping a competitive balance, and giving sense of fair / unbiased rulings.

All that being said, I think the manager "slighted" here (my brother btw), has every right to be pissed off. It's not the first time that he's been on the other end of a ruling, and I can see how he thinks it's possible that said manager "brain farted" and dropped a bye week TE, hoping to be able to re-pick him up next week (maybe)?

Maybe something to consider in the future, is some sort of "dispute board" or "compensation" for flubs. i.e. OK, I didn't mean to do that... now I have 1 hour to post the error and/or will have to forfeit x-FA/Waiver $ to the "slighted manager" to get my player back. I've heard of leagues, where when players are dropped and go to Waivers, they are available to all OTHER managers, EXCEPT the one who dropped them (just saying). Also, some leagues (yahoo?) have a "DO NOT DROP LIST", that prevents such things from happening; In football, with injuries happening so often, and the nature of them being reported sometimes very vague, would make this difficult to manage though.

As noted above, I do think the decision was correct this time.

Once upon a time, we did require all dropped players to go through a separate waiver process, which would have allowed for extra time to correct the mistake before other managers were able to react. Unfortunately, with a blind bidding setup, this isn't possible.

There is an option to implement a "Can't cut" list. It's supposedly maintained by fantasysharks.com. I don't know who's on it.

We could implement a lockout period for all dropped players. Perhaps anyone dropped is locked until Thursday at 3pm (or some such time). That would allow for dropped player errors during claims processing to be resolved. Perhaps something to consider for next year. Claims processing is the only time that a player can be dropped when the manager isn't necessarily online at the time.

I'm good now...I've calmed down.

But I had a hard time seeing the innocent error thing, even with a cell phone. If it was First Come First Serve, it might have made sense. But this was a blind bid waiver claim:

http://football7.myfantasyleague.com/2013/processed_waivers?L=38327

Add Gipson, Tashaun CLE S for $3.00 and drop Davis, Vernon SFO TE
Add Novak, Nick SDC PK for $3.00 and drop Ihenacho, Duke DEN S
Submitted Tue Oct 29 6:17:34 a.m. ET 2013

This claim was in the system for BLIND BID WAIVERS for HOURS before waivers were processed. This was was not a simple release of a player, and then seconds later, he was scooped up by another owner. And I know that I receive a notice via transactions as to who I am going to drop and pick up in waivers.

Again, Justin (fugazi) doesn't have normal internet access. Just his 3G on his phone. Why would he choose to cut Davis, averaging over 13 PPG, when he has a nearly worthless player like Turbin on his roster? He didn't know that he cut the wrong player til after the claims went through. If he had caught it, he would have fixed it. Who cares how many hours passed with his claim in the system? You enter your claims once then you come back and see who you got.

The idea that he meant to cut Davis and then just later changed his mind makes no sense at all. I know he feels bad for making the error and causing headaches for people but what's he supposed to do? Give away one of his best players and bury his team? These leagues are purely for the fun of competition. If someone cuts the wrong guy or drafts the wrong guy, we fix it and move on. We've always done it that way.

A savvy owner could have swooped in and picked up Romo after he had been released. And IF Valkyrie would have complained, it would probably be reversed.

And I don't think it's as easy as "Oh, why would he release Vernon Davis?" We have short benches for a 15-player line-up. People are faced with TOUGH decisions concerning bye weeks and injuries throughout the year.

Again, I've moved on. A decision has been made. Not much I can do.

Negotiating that ordeal was not an easy process as a first time MFL commish. Took me over an hour to figure it out and I cussed more than a few times during the process.

Under commish controls, just deleting the transaction does not make it so. From the MFL mouse print: "Deleting transactions only deletes the record of the transaction on the transactions report. This option does not "undo" a transaction. To undo a transaction, simply select the appropriate option (i.e., Waivers, Trades, etc.) from your league home page and manually reverse that transaction."

Sounds simple right? Not so fast scooter. MFL has a commish lock out feature that prevents a commish/owner the ability to view pending owner-initiated transactions. I was kinda/sorta aware of this feature, but unaware of how to use it. Much more cussing as I finally figured that out. Each owner is sent an email whenever that ability is changed (you may have seen it last night) and the only way to undo any transaction is to change that ability and change it back after the trransaction is fixed (you got that email also).

This is not a knock on MFL. It's actually a good feature unless you're the one who has to figure out how to utilize it for the first time. Though the more I use MFL, the better I like it.

And just so you know, I volunteered to commish so I could better understand the workings of MFL since we've been using it for a few years now and I'm in 3 leagues that use it. No better way to understand the ins and outs of MFL while having Guru backup.

So the best recommendation I read in all this discussion above was to go ahead and commish one of these leagues, it does give you a different prospective on things. You'd think that after all these years we'd have seen it all and have an easy fix for all occasions. Well you'd be wrong.

All that said, I used to commish quite a bit several years ago, stopped for a while, then decided recently to get back into the baseball and football AA and AAA rotation whenever the opportunity arose, so I willingly am doing and will continue to volunteer to commish when in AA and AAA.

Thanks to Guru for his support and all of you for your patience, understanding, and input.

Now as to the issue at hand, I suspect that this is something that the RIFC will need to debate and ultimately decide, but I'm glad it's been worked out for now.

Re 60 and 62,

Sorry that it happened. And I`m not accusing anybody of anything. What frustrated me the most was that it happened during `blind bidding` waivers and was never corrected.

When I first noticed Vernon Davis was dropped, I did a double take. Then, I saw that it was Davis` bye, saw that Fugazi had Clay, and figured that's what was going on. Anybody that noticed Davis was dropped SHOULD have been in on FCFS, IMO.

It's done. It's been adjudicated upon and decided by the commish.

Im glad to see the correct ruling was made.
While I dont play the football or baseball here anymore I do play hoops and these kinds of decisions affect other leagues.
The Rotoguru leagues are by far some of the best leagues offered in fantasy sports in part because the competitiveness and integrity of the managers is the cream of the crop.
In addition I will attest that being a commissioner will give you a completely different perspective when these issues arise.Figuring out how to divide the baby in two can be very challenging.

I can see how easy it is to make a mistake like this in MFL. All you have is the plain text in a box when you click on the players, and even smaller text when it tells you about the transaction that has just been made. Especially doing it on a phone. I had to do some of my draft on the phone and that was *difficult*.

I always assumed we had lockouts after blind bid waivers, just as we have in G24 on normal waivers. Hopefully we can get that back to help prevent this in the future.

It was a 3 hour window AFTER a confirmatory enter through Blind Bid Waivers.

you're presuming people go back and look at their blind bid waivers after they've entered them.

having used my phone - on high speed - it's a pain in the ass. on 3G? i can't even imagine.

personally, this is enough of a reason to not use blind bid. which i hate. :D

but seriously, i just can't think why someone would intentionally drop Davis in a 14-team league. there are exactly TWO TEs better than him in scoring at the moment.

and after the first four, the drop off is significant. there is zero question in my mind this was an accident. i mean, not even a shred of doubt, and the commish made absolutely the right call.

Got it. Prob won't be right at 24 hours, but should be no later than 2 hours before the first games. With the clocks turning back it might even be a little earlier than that.

I can put players in your lineups if that time frame is a problem for either party.

I have to ask... Goatlocker, was your starting of Schaub on purpose? You had to know that Schaub was going into the game as the backup. Did you think that Schaub's zero was better than the potential of Glennon, Tuel, Ponder to put up a negative?

Until Tom Brady went off in the late game, I was a bit worried that I was going to lose to a team w/out a QB... dodged what would have been a very embarrassing bullet there.

Re 77

TY Hilton WAS a bonus. When Brady hit Dobson late with that 80ish yard bomb for a TD, I was happy with my receiver output. TY had 4 points at half when I stopped watching. 33.5 was a pleasant surprise this morning.

So I look at the standings today and I find that I'm 9-9. I was 10-6 last week. So tell me how I go -1 - 3 in a week? Tell me how my record changes after TUESDAY when the official stats are in? That is total BS! There should be a lockout on scoring changes, because that is not right. I expected 10-8 today.

BTW I am now again #1 in PA, for probably the 3rd time in 4 years in AAA.

Potential points for me was 200, and I got 137. So talk about the goat for giving up some precious points, and it's me! I am now second in Potential Points, but 8th in actual Points. This same problem last year knocked me out of RIFC and could easily keep me out of the playoffs this year.

Harbaugh goes for it on 4th and medium distance, instead of kicking a 52 yard field goal TWICE! Already having a big lead... with a kicker with a big leg. Does he have money on Valkyrie (beating me by 6 points while I have Phil Dawson, SF Kicker)? That's the only explanation that makes any sense.

There could be a logjam of 15-11 teams, with the lowest scoring among them (me) out of the playoffs.

With your point total, you should be fine Nerf.

Going to be interesting regardless.

Let me review the playoff particulars:

8 teams, single elimination
The 8 teams will be those with the top 6 W/L records plus the two other teams with the most points
The top four seeds will be based on W/L record (including applicable tiebreakers)
Seeds 5-8 will be based on total points for the other four playoff teams
Teams with equivalent W/L records are ranked based on total points first, then head-to-head record.
Bracket is fixed (no reseeding after each round)

Blind bidding will continue throughout the playoffs. At the beginning of the playoffs, the top seeded team will receive an additional blind bidding allocation of $16, the second seed will receive $14, … with the 8th seed receiving $2. These allocations will be added to any balances remaining from the regular season. Any blind bidding ties during the playoffs will be awarded in favor of the better seeded team.

If a playoff game ends in a tie score, the team with the better seed shall advance.

There will be no restriction on player add/drop transactions for teams still active in the championship playoffs. Teams which are not still active in the Championship playoffs may not make any transactions - adds or drops - even if they are still competing in the Consolation bracket.

I've played in RIFC AAA leagues 6 seasons, and this is the first time I have finished top 3 in the regular season to get the auto-bid to RIFC. I previously got in by winning the playoffs in '06. My team really came through in the clutch - 8-0 to finish the season. I'd like to thank Guru for getting me into the league as a fill-in. I had planned to take a year off and he kindly offered me a spot in AAA.

I feel bad for you, mjd. From 3rd place one week to out of the playoffs the next. I've been there. I missed the 8th spot one year by 3 points, and another year by 17 points. Scoring, at least in this league, was huge this year. Typically 1750 is more than enough to secure a playoff spot, but that barely made it this year, and no cheapies in the top 6 - they all outscored the other teams outside of the top 6. I'd have to check to see if scoring was up across all the leagues, or we were just awesome managers as a group.

Playoff brackets have now been set up.

Championship bracket seeding:
1 Fugazi
2 Nerf
3 yokel
4 Valkyrie
5 Swing
6 jaydog
7 goatlocker
8 The Slaughty Pirate Hookers

Note: jaydog and The Slaughty Pirate Hookers get the two "wild card" spots. The Slaughty Pirate Hookers started the season 10-5, then lost 11 straight, including a week 13 split. That's pretty remarkable. Congrats Tree. Goatlocker was ranked 6th in the standings, but dropped to the 7th seed based on points.

Blind bidding values have been adjusted to award an extra $16 to the top seed, $14 to the #2 seed, ... $2 to the #8 seed.

The other 6 teams have been placed in the consolation bracket. The first round consolation bracket loser with the most points scored in that first round game will advance to round two, in order to preserve an even number of teams. The pairings in the second round will be adjusted if needed to avoid a rematch of a first-round game.

Teams that are not alive in the championship bracket may not add or drop players for the remainder of the season. Add/drop/waivers will continue as usual for the teams still alive in the Championship bracket.

It does not appear that any possible Thursday morning statistical corrections will cause a seeding adjustments.

Please let me know if anything appears to be improperly set up.

Top 2 seeds are in the finals. Good luck to Fugazi and Nerf.

Since the top 2 seeds get an invite to the RIFC and 3 AAA teams are usually invited, Guru will have the option to choose that 3rd team next season.

I want to again thank Guru for giving me an invite to AAA after I had finished last year well out of an automatic invite back. I finally put together a draft that actually out-performed their projections.

The first four draft picks were neutral at best, as Richardson bombed despite not being injured - probably game for game the worst pick in the first round.
Bryant was slightly low for his draft position, but more or less fine.
McFadden was a risky pick because of his injury history and sure enough, but it worked out (more later)
RG3 was actually pretty good - better for fantasy than real life. A 16.91 avg when he started for my team, including 5 games at or over 20 pts. He wasn't available for the playoffs, but this also worked out.

Picks 5-9 is where I really came ahead in the draft.
DeSean Jackson would have won round five if not for Antonio Brown being selected 2 spots later. Still, he was probably 40 points better than I expected, and the only reason I picked him here was because I thought he was going to be the punt returner (he was, but only part time).
Derrick Johnson was probably the safest pick in
my draft. He was going to get his points and he did just that.
Okay, Mark Ingram didn't work out, but it turned out I didn't really need him, even when all of my running backs got hurt.
Josh Gordon was arguably the best pick in the draft - with possible exception of Knowshon Moreno. Not much to say other than I actually didnt start him in weeks 3 and 4, after he got back from his suspension. He still scored 189 points for me in 11 games.
Greg Hardy was okay, but finished strong and ended up 11th among DL's

I also did well with picks at 10+
Philip Rivers was a steal in the 15th round and ended up being my starting QB - I could have gone with him alone and done fine, but I really liked mixing and matching. He averaged 16 pts per game for me, in 6 games.
Karlos Dansby in the 19th round was also one of the best picks of the draft. Second most points among all IDP's.
My next pick was Rashad Jennings. I needed the handcuff for McFadden and OMG he might have been my savior. He scored 94.6 points for me in 7 games, and helped stabilize my worst position. The two together scored 165 points for me in 14 games.

A good draft is only part of the winning formula. I also needed to execute the BB Waivers and FA. My strategy was to spend early and maximize points for dollars over the whole season.
Julius Thomas was perhaps the best waiver buy in the draft. I got him in week 2 for $37. TE's dont just score 20+ points and then do nothing, and sure enough he scored 124 points for me in 12 games. In terms of points per dollar, at 3.35 it's pretty good, especially for a TE.
With Geno Atkins going down right when he started getting back to himself, I had to scramble for another DL. I got Kyle Williams for $1, which was kind of sneaky as most managers would not spend on a DL. He ended up scoring 57 points for me in 6 games, and was the #3 overall DL.
I had finally had enough of Trent Richardson so for the playoffs I elected to buy Jordan Todman, who I expected to get me 6-7 points, which was still better than Richardson had been. Todman got me 28 points in his first 2 games, and 29.82 points in the 3 playoff games.

So all in all, most of my picks and moves worked. I was down and out at 9-9, and I can't really explain what happened to turn things around other than that I already had a good team and just needed some luck to go my way. From that point on I went 11-0 and averaged 158 points per game. My two best positions were WR and LB - those 6 spots accounting for 47% of my total points.

In the championship game it was actually my defense that stepped up - 7 sacks and 4 interceptions.

I've rambled long enough. I just want to thank again mjd for running the league, and congratulate Fugazi for an amazing season. This is my second AAA victory but first since 2006, so it's been awhile since I've been in the big leagues. I'm hoping to stay up there for awhile.

Still need a fantasy "fix" after the regular season is over? MFL has a Fantasy League for the Playoffs.

We will use these players:
1 QB
2 RB
3 WR
1 TE
1 PK
1 DST

You can only use a player once during the playoffs. RIFC scoring rules are in effect. Total points at the end wins!

Wins WHAT? you ask. Nothing but bragging rights...
