Welcome to those who are in this league. We have some of the same cast of characters and we also have some newbies. This should be another great year.

A house claning thing at the start. We have the option on what type of waiver system to implement, either traditional or blind bidding (what is used in the RIFC). Since there are an odd number of manangers, I will let the group decide.

To provide some additional background on waivers...

The RIFC and the AAA leagues use a conditional blind bidding waiver method. Each week, all free agents are subject to a blind bidding waiver process. Each manager starts the season with $100 to spend over the course of the season, and can use those funds to bid on one or more free agents. Conditional bidding allows for more complex bidding by structuring bids in groups, with (no more than) one bid being filled in each group. For more details, see the related help page at the hosting site.

The "traditional" waiver process simply assigns a waiver priority to each team at the beginning of the season (typically the reverse of the draft selection order). Each week, waiver claims can be submitted for all free agents. The team with the highest priority gets the first claim. Whenever a claim is awarded, that team then moves to the bottom of the list. Priorities carry over from week to week, so if you were the last team to be awarded a waiver claim in week #1, you'll start off week #2 with the lowest priority.

Because many AA managers are new to the RIFC format and/or new to the myfantasyleague.com hosting system, we offered the opportunity for this league to use the traditional method, just to help alleviate the learning curve. Last year, the AA league did choose to use traditional waivers.

Some managers find the blind bidding process to be the fairest and most strategic. Some find it to be unduly complicated and frustrating.

In either case, once the waiver claims process is held (typically Wednesday at noon), all free agents are released and can then be added first come, first served - without any impact to waiver priorities.

Put me in the "unduly complicated and frustrating" camp, so I vote for the traditional method.

Crazy couple weeks at work so I have been out of touch. I'm logged in to myfantasyleague.com now. I have found this thread but wondering about draft plan details (when, what process). Can someone direct me to where I can read more about that. On vacation now

After consulting with Guru, it was decided that the this league needs to go on with the next step, the selection of draft order. For those who are new to the RIFC, the managers get to decide which spot in the draft order that they want to pick from. Normally, I would ask for two sets of random numbers, however, we use the draft order generator that is on the MFL site.

The other housekeeping item before we start with this is that since deepsnapper has yet to show, he will get the 14th or last spot that is left. All that being said, here is the order in which we select the draft position...

1.01 Kwame
1.02 the fighting sam druckers
1.03 marbam50
1.04 artofmonk
1.05 Woody
1.06 Dat Boot
1.07 Bean's Buckeyes
1.08 Burnsballs
1.09 Diamondback190
1.10 Perm Dude
1.11 The Graham Crackerz
1.12 Gmoney
1.13 Vampire Weekend
1.14 deepsnapper

Kwame gets to choose first. When you make your selection,as well as the type of waivers, please copy and paste the entire updated order. If possible, notify the next manager that it is his turn to pick.

I want to clarify that this league uses a "Bonzai" style draft, which is a regular snake draft except that the 3rd round is reversed. So the team picking first overall picks last in rounds 2, 3, and 4. From that point on, it works as a regular snake draft.

guru thank you for the draft clarification. Now I understand why I see so many teams taking draft slots at the end of the draft.

I think I understand the blind bidding process now, it is just for FA pick ups during the week. Just for clarification blind bids need to be entered before noon on Wednesday, I am I to assume that is EST? All other FA will be able to picked up immediately, but still at a cost of $1 bid, I assume. All dropped players do they have a waiting period of 2 days, so they could be picked up friday at noon and once again you would need to pay at least $1.

Blind bidding (or traditional waivers) only applies to the noon Wednesday waiver process. All unrostered players are subject to that claiming process. After that, free agents can be added first come, first served without cost.

Last year, we did not lock dropped players, so they were free to add without a waiting period. We did this to prevent owners from being able to "protect" free agents from other teams by dropping them within a "lockout" window of game time.

We may adjust the timing of the waiver claiming this year. Last year, it was done at noon EST Wednesday, with FCFS free agent pickups starting 3 hours later. I'm likely to push back both of those times to later in the day on Wednesday this year.

I'm going to help Dustin out a bit as far as acclimating to the forum and league site goes (Deepsnapper's replacement). Just curious if you will be doing a new random set. Not a huge deal but seems a bit unfair to give him the 14th selection while the other 13 were randomized.

Since we are just getting started (and this is new for some managers), that's fine.

To all: please review post 24 regarding our draft ordering. The Banzai format has been measured over time to be the "fairest". That doesn't mean picking first is a bad thing; it just means that picking first is not as advantageous as in a traditional snake draft.

For our RIFC leagues, we go through a round where managers picks their draft sequence. That is what we're doing now. When we are finished with this process, we'll have the order of the first round settled - and by definition, the rest of the draft as well.

I had originally asked wolfer to put deepsnapper at the end of this draft selection round since he had yet to appear. However, since deepsnapper has withdrawn and we have a new manager in his place, it seems fair that we should revert to the original random draft order, which had that team in the #5 spot. So here is the order that teams will select their drafting sequence:

1 Kwame
2 the fighting sam druckers
3 marbam50
4 artofmonk
5 Black Rhinos
6 Woody
7 Dat Boot
8 Bean's Buckeyes
9 Burnsballs
10 Diamondback190
11 Perm Dude
12 The Graham Crackerz
13 Gmoney
14 Vampire Weekend

We'll await confirmation from Kwame (or promize) of his selection. At that point, we can continue with wolfer's pick.

Normally, we have a larger proportion of returning managers in this league, so our RIFC practices are better understood. This year, I think about half of the league is 1st time managers. Hopefully, the veterans can be helpful in providing procedural guidance as warranted.

I think the draft glitch has been resolved. A couple of the players who were "overdrafted" may have disappeared from managers' pre-ranked lists, so you may need to look at ADP rankings to find and draft them.

I know there are some new players here. Over on the main Football board you can see other RIFC discussion threads, including draft rationales. Just wanted you to know that there is stuff on these message boards other than what you see in the Football Leagues & Standings area.

Rotoguru Football Forum

Also, here's a link where you can see how the other three RIFC drafts are going:
RIFC Drafts

Also a heads up, if you are into hoops or baseball, there are also invitational leagues for those (RIBC & RIHC).

How long was the timer supposed to be? I thought 4 hours? I went to bed 6 hours ago and there was 9 picks ahead of me...not sure how that worked!

I want to clarify the blind bidding on waiver pickups before Wednesdays. How many dollars do we 'start' with. After the Wednesday deadline, if I'm reading the thread correctly, we will still be charge $1 for FA pickups.

Please correct me if I am wrong on this assumption.

Cheers,

The bids only get run once per week. After that any player you pick up is first come first served, no charge to your bidding dollars.

Here's the official rule:

All free agents (any players not on a current roster) are subject to a weekly claiming process at 7:30pm ET on Wednesday, using a blind bidding process. Each team will be allocated a budget for the regular season of $100, with a minimum bid of $1. Ties will be broken in favor of the current standings (with applicable tiebreakers), worst-to-first. For 2014, blind bidding will use the conditional setup at MFL.

Starting at 10:30pm ET on each Wednesday, all free agents may be picked up by any team "first come, first served" Dropped players will not be subject to a one day waiver period.

During the postseason (weeks 14-16), the waiver schedule will be pushed back to Thursday so that any stats corrections (which might conceivably impact playoff results from the prior weekend) can be processed. For surviving teams in the championship bracket, blind bidding will take place at 3pm ET on Thursday, with free agents released for FCFS pickup at 6pm ET.

Immediately following the draft, undrafted players will be subject to a priority claiming process (blind bidding), with tiebreaking priorities equal to the reverse of the draft selection order (i.e, the order in which team selected their draft sequence.)

Kind of late, but just a reminder. If you want to claim multiple players, you should set up multiple rounds. Refer to the RIFC thread in the Football Forum for an example.

I thought perm and I made a trade Cobb for Martin. What is the deal with that? I still have Martin and no Cobb. It shows in the transactions that I accepted it but it has not gone through
