Welcome everyone to another season of RIFC. I have worked with most of you in the past. I look forward to working with you this year. I see some people have started accepting their invitation to the league. Let me know if you didn't get an invite. I will send another one along.
We will use this thread for preseason discussions.
Let me give you my contact info. I'm not always available to use the thread but I have access to email 95% of the time.

I don't think so. MFL is slight strange, IMO, in how it registers you and your assignment to a team.
Is there any way to remove old leagues from the drop down of my teams?

Im going to use the randomize function in MFL to set the order for our draft selection round. We can then get started on that process.
Remember that our actual draft uses a Bonzai format, which means that it is a normal snake EXCEPT that the 3rd round is reversed. So the team picking first overall picks last in each of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rounds.
For audit purposes, youll each get an email showing the random draft order. Just be aware that this order (the first round order) will only be used for our draft selection round, and not the actual draft.

It is syncopats turn to choose. He still has yet to log into MFL. I have emailed him a couple of times. I found an old email for him too. I just sent one to that one also. If he doesn't respond in a day, we may have to figure something out. We can skip him in this process or we may have to replace him.

Hey guys, I just heard from Syncopats this morning. His dad had a stroke this weekend, and his current priorities mean he won't be able to guarantee time for Fantasy Football this year.
I know a friend who isn't currently in the RIFC who is interested in a team. All depending, if you want someone right away, let me know, I'll try to send him an email, or you can graduate someone from AA.

Hmm, tough choice. I had considered picking in the 2 spot but the idea of going 2nd to last in 3 consecutive rounds is not appealing.
Then I thought, hey what about the second overall pick? That could be good. There are 2 premiere RB's this year that sitting at the top of everybody's list. I can get 1 of them at least. They may work.
Of course after that I also HAD to consider picking in the 2 hole. I mean how can you pass that up? No, its not the same as baseball and I kinda prefer the middle picks in football, but its the #2 spot.
In the end I said screw it, I'll throw a dart. But even that didn't seem like a sufficient reason to take a spot. So I scrapped all of the above, closed my eyes and randomly filled in a spot:
1. Promize 2. Khadhaddan 3. The Beezer 4. twolves 5.Slowhand 6.wiggs 7.Fear the monkey 8.Damoose 9.Manta Palmetto 10. Tree 11. Barilko6 12. Philly Busters 13. Frick 14. mmikulka
after looking it, maybe I shouldn't type with my eyes closed anymore.

Agreed. Blind bidding ensures that a team isn't totally sunk when they lose their 2 starting RBs in a single week (happened to me last year!)
It's the only way to create a truly level playing field.

MFL Explanation of Blind Bidding
Priority Claiming All free agents (any players not on a current roster) are subject to a weekly claiming process at noon on Wednesday, using a blind bidding process. Each team will be allocated a budget for the regular season of $100, with a minimum bid of $1. Ties will be broken in favor of the current standings (with applicable tiebreakers), worst-to-first. For 2012, blind bidding will use the conditional setup at MFL.
Starting at 3:00pm on each Wednesday, all free agents may be picked up by any team "first come, first served" Dropped players will not be subject to a one day waiver period.
Immediately following the draft, undrafted players will be subject to a priority claiming process (blind bidding), with tiebreaking priorities equal to the reverse of the draft selection order (i.e, the order in which team selected their draft sequence.)
Starting five minutes prior to the scheduled start of each NFL game, no player in that game may be dropped, regardless of whether the player is an active or bench player.

I wasn't aware that the draft had started either, but I would also prefer to delay the start as much and then push to get done. Nothing is more frustrating than having 1st or 2nd round pick get injured during the 3rd week games. Or to have a back-up suddenly become a starter and drastically increase in value and have one manager luck into being up when it happened.

Agreed. My pick is up and I am not making a pick until my targeted player makes it through his game.
We will have 9 days to complete the draft from Monday until EOD Tuesday (to allow for waivers). As long as people use queues and stay on top of things, that is easily doable.

The email said you were reverting the draft back to the first pick? Why? I do strongly object to this. In post 56 you state we are welcome to make picks early but the clock wont be turned on before Monday.
Promize and I both made our picks in good faith. I don't like that I could potentially lose my pick because he flip flops on a tough choice and changes his mind and I don't like that he and I get a mulligan that others don't if one of our picks gets hurt.

I think if they wanted to start early and were up fine even if I did not know the draft started. I actually agree with Khahan that if they made their pick they should be bound by it. I was indicating that I would not make a pick personally until Monday since I was planning for it to start then and should not be penalized for it. I do not think a clock for the first couple of rounds picks makes any sense until we see how things are progressing.

In my opinion, the fairest thing to do is revert back. I asked Guru for his opinion and he agreed with me. Hate to let those guys have picks hanging out there while everyone else waits to make sure there's no injuries. You can disagree with me or agree with me, but there's no decision that makes everyone happy.

I strongly disagree with your opinion and guru since it was clearly stated on this thread that the draft would begin Monday and that was apparently why so many of us were unaware that it had begun. The rationale was clear for starting Monday. However, if whomever was up had the right to pick--they do so at their own risk. It does not sound as if either of the 2 really want to reconsider anyways. I think first pick should not be allowed to redo for sure. The second maybe if he felt pressured because the draft was "underway" but there was no time clock.

But you also make a pick to move the draft along and with the expectations of the next person making their selection in a reasonable manner, it's not fair for anyone to make a pick then have to wait days for next person to pick. I would have a stance like yours if everyone had received my email. You can not rely on posting of the message board bc not everyone looks at them. 1 and 2 might have not seen my email or post, they couldve logged into MFL and saw draft had been started and said oh shit, I have to make a selection.
Also, how does a clock not make any sense for first couple of rounds? It would be a 6 hour clock. If we come across one or two people that repeatly use the 6 hours or longer, we will not finish on time.

Twolves - based on what was posted here I did make the pick thinking we had started. But I had also read a few days before that the draft was officially starting on Monday and we could make picks with no clock before then, so I honestly have no good excuse. I'm fine with the way things are with the caveat that barring injury the first 2 picks can't be changed. I dont even like the option to pick differently because of injury but, being honest, would take that option if its available and the situation arises.

So now that we have reverted back--can the first pick be made now or does it have to wait until Monday?? I think there was some possible injury info out on Rotoworld on first 2 picks even before they were made.

Here are some guidelines for executing your draft picks. (These are copied from last year's thread. Please let me know if I have misspecified anything)
1. "My Draft List" - Under the "For Owners" menu (at the top), there is an item called My Draft List. You can think of this as your personal pre-ranking of players if you wish, although it has one important operational impact. If your 4-hour clock expires, then your pick will be automatically selected as the top name on your "My Draft List". Only if that list is empty will your pick be skipped. (More on this in a moment.)
2. "Pre-Draft Pick" list - You access this through "For owners->Draft" These are the equivalent of the kafenatid "queue", with several important distinctions: There is a separate list/queue for each round, and they do not carry over, and If there is a name in your queue, that player will be immediately selected when it is your turn to draft. The only way to turn off a round-specific queue is to empty it. Therefore, it is important to keep your queues empty unless you are sure that they should be used. If you expect to want to load & unload your queue frequently (similar to turning it on or off), then you should probably keep a list of players in "My Draft list", as you can quickly pull up that short list to add players to any queue.
Of course, if you have players in "My Draft List", then you are also subject to having those players selected if you should time-out. Typically, that shouldn't be a problem, as timing-out should be a rare occurrence.
If you want to keep players loaded in "My Draft List" and you dont want to risk the top name being selected automatically upon timeout, then I suggest putting a "placeholder" player at the top of your list - preferably someone who is retired, or injured, or clearly not a viable pick. We can come up with specific placeholder options, if needed. If you time-out and a placeholder player is automatically selected for you, then you can have the commish replace that player with a real pick when you are available.
Note that because queued picks are automatically processed, there is no role tantamount to a designated picker. As commissioner, I can enter a pick on anyone’s behalf. Other than that, you – or anyone else with access to your MFL password – will be the only one who can directly enter a pick.
If any of these instructions are unclear, please ask. And if anything is incorrect, please alert!

Unlisted players During the draft, any player may be drafted, regardless of whether or not the player is listed at the hosting game site. Once the draft is completed, unlisted players may not be added to any roster. This applies for any post-draft waiver processing as well.
In the event that a drafted player is not listed after the draft has completed, a placeholder player will be assigned to the drafting team, to be replaced by the drafted player as soon as he is available.
Position eligibility Except as defined below, a players position eligibility will be that assigned by the league hosting site.
If a player is listed at one position when drafted and that position is subsequently changed by the hosting site, the manager drafting that player may elect to retain the original position. In this event, that player will keep the drafted position eligibility until he is dropped or traded, at which time the eligibility will revert to the hosting systems default position.
Injured Reserve Each team will have one slot available for injured reserve. A player may only be placed on injured reserve when he is so designated by the NFL and the hosting site reflects that IR status.
If a manager adds a player who is already designated as IR at the time of his pickup (either through priority claiming or free agent pickup), that team must keep the player on its active roster until the following week. Players who are already designated as IR when drafted are not subject to this limitation, and may be placed in the IR slot immediately after the draft.
Once an IR player has returned to active status by the NFL, that player must be removed from the IR slot no later than the Wednesday following his activation. If an ineligible player remains in an IR slot after this time, the commissioner may forcibly drop such player after a 24-hour notice (via email) to the manager.
Priority Claiming All free agents (any players not on a current roster) are subject to a weekly claiming process at 7:30pm ET on Wednesday, using a blind bidding process. Each team will be allocated a budget for the regular season of $100, with a minimum bid of $1. Ties will be broken in favor of the current standings (with applicable tiebreakers), worst-to-first. For 2014, blind bidding will use the conditional setup at MFL.
Starting at 10:30pm ET on each Wednesday, all free agents may be picked up by any team "first come, first served" Dropped players will not be subject to a one day waiver period.
During the postseason (weeks 14-16), the waiver schedule will be pushed back to Thursday so that any stats corrections (which might conceivably impact playoff results from the prior weekend) can be processed. For surviving teams in the championship bracket, blind bidding will take place at 3pm ET on Thursday, with free agents released for FCFS pickup at 6pm ET.
Schedule 13 week round robin Doubleheaders all weeks 1-13 (play each team twice) Single elimination playoffs, weeks 14-16
Trades and trade deadline During the draft, trades may include draft picks. Trades will normally be approved immediately by the Commissioner, assuming they are reasonably balanced. If league managers believe an announced trade is unbalanced, they should protest the trade ASAP.
After the draft, trades will be subject to a review period. For the first 24 hours following a trade, managers may protest a trade by posting a message at the RotoGuru forum, or by sending an email to the Commissioner. If at least 3 managers protest a trade within 24 hours of its announcement, then all managers will be polled within the next 24 hours. If seven or more managers vote to veto a trade, then it will not be approved. If a proposed trade is announced less than 24 hours before the earliest freeze for any player involved, then the entire trade will not be processed until the following week.
If a trade does not receive at least 3 protests, then it will be effective 24 hours after it is announced. If a trade receives at least 3 protests but the protests are not upheld in a full league vote, then the trade will be processed 48 hours after it is announced.
The trade deadline is the weekend following the final week with byes.
Stat corrections Official stat corrections will be automatically applied. This typically happens on Thursday morning. In the playoffs, this can lead to an issue if a team is suddenly “back in the game”, but that team was unable to make roster moves the prior day. If a stat correction changes a playoff matchup at the last minute, then any impacted team will be given the opportunity to make a last minute roster move, if needed. The Commissioner will attempt to ensure that this provision is enabled as fairly as possible under the circumstances.
During the playoffs, once the first game of the week has started, no stat corrections will be allowed thereafter.
Playoffs 8 teams, single elimination The 8 teams will be those with the top 6 W/L records plus the two other teams with the most points The top four seeds will be based on W/L record (including applicable tiebreakers) Seeds 5-8 will be based on total points for the other four playoff teams Teams with equivalent W/L records are ranked based on total points first, then head-to-head record. Bracket is fixed (no reseeding after each round)
Blind bidding will continue throughout the playoffs. At the beginning of the playoffs, the top seeded team will receive an additional blind bidding allocation of $16, the second seed will receive $14, … with the 8th seed receiving $2. These allocations will be added to any balances remaining from the regular season. Any blind bidding ties during the playoffs will be awarded in favor of the better seeded team.
If a playoff game ends in a tie score, the team with the better seed shall advance.
There will be no restriction on player add/drop transactions for teams still active in the championship playoffs. Teams which are not still active in the Championship playoffs may not make any transactions - adds or drops - even if they are still competing in the Consolation bracket.

I'm sure it varies for everybody but for me, this is prime drafting time. Evenings are a bit of a downtime for me but mornings and afternoons are when I get the best looks. I know others like Wiggs are probably reverse of me.
But that's why we have a 6 hour clock philly. Because schedules vary. I'm chomping at the bit to pick - only 2 to go before me and I have a 2 person queue! But its only the first delay. Lets give it some time.

I was hoping to be mostly done by this weekend, as I'll be traveling in areas without cell coverage. That doesn't look like it will happen. Is there a setting to allow someone else to draft for you, or to have an autopick made? I really don't just want to set a long queue and end up drafting 5 of the same position.
I guess I could set a queue for each round and only have a specific position in it, but that doesn't sound like fun, or be very efficient.

Frick, you can use the "My Draft Preferences" under the "For Owners" link at the top to specify what position you want to target for each round.
If you want to have someone else draft for you, the best way I know to do that is to change your password, given them the new password, then change it back once you return.

Ok, can we start paying attention or using queues? Twolves made his pick an hour ago. He's near the turn and every single pick between his last pick and the current wait was on auto pick. It would have refreshed back at his pick.
Overall we are making great time, but it seems to be the same 2 or 3 spots we stall out on every single round. And this, he essentially had back to back picks. From a time perspective there was no waiting between when he made is r16 pick and when he could make his r17 pick yet its 50mins later and we're all still waiting.

I was going to post a similar comment. While we've made good progress, we have a holiday weekend ahead and might have some people unavailable. This could slow us down. The league calendar on the MFL site indicates there's a waiver period prior to the first game starting on Sunday. I'm assuming this is incorrect and we will enter Week 1 with the roster we draft.

Isn't the first game start on Thursday? To me we have the draft done before the first game and have time to let waivers clear. That means finishing prior by Tuesday.
It is a valid strategy to not pick a some positions and take a flyer on a deep sleeper. Then wait to see who is cut and how it impacts depth charts and drop a sleeper who didn't work out and pick up the missing position. 2-3 people eating up clock shouldn't prevent that from happening.

Good grief--we are making good progress. Patience is a virtue. These later picks, I find more difficult than the earlier ones as there are some good players there. With games last night need to read news before picking.
Some of us sleep and work full time. I was off to work at 6:15 am and in OR by 7:00am and actually made one pick between cases. 6 picks between is not like back to back as have had 2nd player in mind taken and then question is whether to take player at same or different position. I dislike ques as have been burned before--but I do check draft when able. However, not always at computer or able to make pick at work.

Re: 123 Agreed we are making very good progress. Just concerned about the weekend and the possibility of folks being unavailable due to traveling or other events. Current situation matches the 16-17 turn. twolves on the clock for 20.11 and the 3 teams "around the corner" with 2 queues each set up. Essentially you'll make a pick and it will be your turn again with 6 less players to choose from. Hoping we can get this finished tomorrow and have it behind us.

If you go to reports ---> Draft You can get a draft recap... This is what they say about my team:
Coach Promize had a memorable draft in the recent 2014 Rotoguru Invitational Football Challenge - AAA #1 draft. Their Promize MizzDawgs franchise came away with the number 4 ranked draft (out of 14) in the league based on analysis by MyFantasyLeague.com.
Promize MizzDawgs made their best pick of the draft in round 3, selecting Andrew Luck with the 42nd pick of the draft, as compared to the 28th spot he should have been selected in, according to ADP rankings. "You draft the best available player," Promize MizzDawgs coach Promize said.
Promize MizzDawgs made their worst pick of the draft in round 9, selecting Antonio Gates with the 113rd pick of the draft, as compared to the 154th spot he should have been selected in, according to ADP rankings. "He's a work in progress," Promize MizzDawgs coach Promize said.
Starting in week 4, Promize MizzDawgs won't be able to submit a full lineup, due to having 1 defensive back on bye.
Promize MizzDawgs nabbed Jamaal Charles in the 1st round, which reflects the fact that he was the number one ranked running back for the 2013 season, based on this league's custom scoring rules.
With a little bit of work on the waiver wire this season, or a few strategic trades, coach Dirk should be able to turn their 4th ranked draft effort into a championship fantasy team this year.

"If a player is listed at one position when drafted and that position is subsequently changed by the hosting site, the manager drafting that player may elect to retain the original position. In this event, that player will keep the drafted position eligibility until he is dropped or traded, at which time the eligibility will revert to the hosting systems default position."

I guess Gordon is worth a flyer but I'd be shocked if he appears in a game this season. Here are the reasons:
1) He already has a job. Those cars won't sell themselves, ya know! 2) The NFL has no interest in revisiting every past suspension / disciplinary action since the current CBA was signed. 3) Any player suspended or otherwise disciplined for test levels that would become passing tests will be suing for back wages and defamation of character if these guys are let off the hook. 4) They knew the rules, broke them anyway, appealed the penalty, had the appeal denied. Nothing to see here.
Of course, stranger things have happened so we'll have to see. Any interest in a rule that requires free agents coming off suspension to only get picked up through blind bidding waivers? This would mean such players would be ineligible for first-come-first-serve pickups. Just feels like a sudden announcement of a change in status for a suspended player could have a significant impact for the team lucky enough to hear about it and act on it first. I understand this might not be practical but thought I'd throw it out there. Of course, it wouldn't apply to existing moves. Just isn't fair to apply new rules of old actions! (Hear that NFL?)

Philly - they wouldn't revisit past suspensions. These are all current suspensions and the new CBA would dictate what penalties they are to serve, if any.
If the new cba makes what they did not worthy of suspension, then there is no suspense. They are not revisiting or appealing. They are changing the rules.

If they reach agreement before 1st game, I think they could revisit but sure would be messy. I hope they do not go there. Gordon was gone awfully quick as I looked too.

Demarco Murray Giovani Bernard Knile Davis Ahmad Bradshaw Darren Sproles Bernard Pierce Roy Helu Latavius Murray

Good chance for a 2-0 week this week. Manta Palmetos needs 8.5 points from a DE (willie young). Not unheard of, but no guarantee.
I'm curious though, whats the lowest 'high score' for the week in rifc? I'm sitting at 133.82. That seems awfully low to be the high score of the week. Manta may edge past me and honestly, Promize probably will. But we may not have any team over 140 on the week.

With Pitta going down for the year, I'm looking for a quality TE.
Multi-player deals would be good too: I'm interested in trading away Devin Hester and either Kirk Cousins or Aaron Rodgers. Other positions I wouldn't mind upgrades are RB and IDP.

I just tried to drop Mychal Kendricks and pick up a FA LB, but it said I couldn't drop him, as his game had started. I had taken him out of my starting line-up, and now I can't even make him an active player as his game has started, (1PM per MFL).
I have been out of town since Thursday night and just got home at 11:45, I didn't realize that the times were listed as 1:00, not the actual kick-off time of 1:15. I guess I get a zero this week, since I have an illegal line-up.
If it is possible, I would take any LB that isn't on bye this week as a replacement. If not, congrats on the free wins to my opponents.

i don't remember there being a re-seeding based on points.

Should have a blind bid run at 3pm Thursday per the rules.

Thanks. It is difficult to win playoffs since a one week slice allows some luck and matchups to play a bigger role in who wins. I probably should have lost in the semis but A. Rodgers plays his worst game of the season.
Congrats to all for a great season.
