From skinneej post from 2015 season:

Yes congrats Doug on a great season and final playoff run!

Per current rules, tie-breakers are only based on total points, so Arizona would have the 5th slot and Buffalo the 6th slot. The top 16 draft picks are based on final regular season finish (as documented in post 350), where the bottom 8 are based on final playoff finish. I believe this list below is the correct draft order for 2016 (note round 1 top 16 spots will be based on lottery results).

1. Colts
2. Chiefs
3. Jaguars
4. Seahawks
5. Cardinals
6. Bills
7. Jets
8. Vikings
9. Panthers
10. Broncos
11. 49ers
12. Ravens
13. Eagles
14. Browns
15. Packers
16. Lions
17. Cowboys
18. Bengals
19. Texans

These are the only trades I can find that impact the 2016 draft:

1). Cleveland Browns gave up Manuel, E.J. BUF QB
Denver Broncos gave up

Comments: Cleveland receives 7th round 2016 from Denver, Denver receives Cleveland 9th round and EJ Manuel.
Sat Oct 17 1:30:42 p.m. ET 2015

2). New York Jets gave up Amaro, Jace NYJ TE
Denver Broncos gave up Sankey, Bishop TEN RB

Comments: GO Jets 1st Round 2016 pick for Tree Bronco's 10th Round 2016 Pick
Wed Sep 2 10:43:53 a.m. ET 2015

Oops. I used wrong URL for 2016. Here is one IR proposal from doug.

387 Doug
ID: 326332712
Fri, Jul 29, 2016, 16:10 IR Proposal:

IR Slot #1 - A regular IR slot... if/when they come off IR, players must be activated within 48 hours (or whatever the appropriate grace period is).

IR Slot #2 - If your team gets really banged up, you can put a second player on IR. At this point, you must designate one of the two IR players as a keeper for the following year. Even if the player is activated during the season, the keeper designation holds. If the player is traded, the new team inherits this keeper requirement as well (and the new team must acknowledge their awareness of this designation prior to the trade being processed by commisioner(s)).

Both slots: After the Fantasy Championship, IR goes away. All teams with 1+ IR player must cut down their roster while maintaining a valid lineup (i.e., if you only have 1 K, you can't drop your K). Obviously players in IR Slot #2 can't be dropped. In short, nobody gets to carry extra players forward to the following year's keeper decision-making process.

Some players available for trade:

QB Colin Kaepernick, SF - Right now I'm assuming it's 50/50 he'll be the starter week #1. This is probably a good "buy low" option for someone rebuilding and willing to roll the dice on him... but that said, QBs do come at a bit higher premium in this league than most.

RB Javorius Allen, BAL - Talented but in a committee situation.

DL Carlos Dunlap, CIN - #2 DL our league last year, and top-10 in most preseason rankings. I just have too many other keepers, so it's tough for me to make room for him. Last year I dropped him then happily drafted him back in the first round. Might keep him if I can get better trade value for my other keepers on my squad.

I could possibly be open to moving RB Gio Bernard or RB Latavius Murray, but their price tags are higher than for the guys listed above.

Dunno... on principle I've always liked DST, it's been with us since the beginning... reflects on-field success far moreso than IDP scores do... and IDPs don't cover the ST part either.

But the anti-DST folks have basically killed it already anyway via the scoring changes that have been voted in.

Doug - I agree with the argument that it does reflect on field success of an actual team, but when you combine it with our in depth IDP roster, it seems redundant. Factor in the rise in offensive scoring and it's negative impact on that position, 30-40% of the league is probably better off benching on a weekly basis...

It will impact me more than most because I have LA, but I think the league, as a whole, would benefit by eliminating it.

As far as IR, I will be voting against the proposal for now...

It serves as a vehicle to hoard a player because you can, even if you have no intentions of keeping. I would vote for it if it was strictly the IR2 proposal. If you plan on keeping said player, I feel that is reasonable to allow the slot. Doing so allows the team to be competitive (which is what we want) by fielding an active roster.

I would vote for the IR2 proposal with the stipulation that if you put a player on the IR they must be kept for the following season. I agree with Slizz that the regular IR slot could turn into a hoarding situation.

I would like to eliminate the yardage and point scores, but keep the scoring for INT, FF, FR, TD, S

I am agreement w/Slizz and Kyle. IR would be beneficial if, and only if, keeping said IR player. I like the IR idea structured with contingency.

I am okay eliminating DST. This is more self serving since I generally field a sub standard DST. Save me from myself!

RE D/ST: I've been a fan of removing it in all leagues as it's such a crap shoot after the top 2 or 3 teams. If we eliminate yardage and points, I'm not sure the point of having a D/ST.

I'd prefer to keep DST. We fixed scoring so that it isn't quite as volatile as it once was.

Also, while many teams wouldn't care one way or the other, I have had a keeper-quality DST every year I have been in the league. I kind of count on DST as one of my scorers. What kind of compensation would you give to teams who have keeper-quality DST's? I feel like if we did drop it, it'd have to be for next season, so that teams with good DST's can make other arrangements for their keeper planning. For example, willingly trade a top 5 DST to a playoff team for a draft pick upgrade.

I'm not in favor of getting rid of DST. Call me a stubborn OG, but I don't like the idea of getting rid of it. I also wouldn't want any scoring changes.

I'm in agreement with Slizz, CT and Kyle regarding IR. I only like the idea of an IR spot if that player must be kept. Any variation to that and I'm not in favor.

As one of the original managers as well, the last time removing DST came to a vote, it was defeated since no good option was provided for how to either phase it out or compensate for the loss of a potential keeper player for some managers. It has to be looked at the same as if we removed any other starting spot. If we decided TE was no longer a position, we'd have to figure out how to compensate the players with top TEs.

When we added IDP it was to give more depth to the league, but removing DST was not really considered strongly until a few years later. The league voted a few years ago to minimize the DST position scoring some to take out some of the extreme volatility since it is a restricted position for being able to pick up replacements. However, that also is something that astute managers have always considered when drafting and making trades not to get left with a scrap unit to start. We had one year that a manager got left without having a DST to draft, so they had to pay up a little for it afterwards to have a legal lineup. Of course, they had plenty of chances to draft one, but if you choose to chase prospects instead of drafting a need position that is the price you pay.

I've always liked having DST and would be opposed to removing it unless a viable proposal was put forward. Just removing it without any compensation or phase out plan will not work and I would not support it again. I have generally had top 15 DSTs most years and do spend time and effort researching them just like other positions. Two years ago I had 2 of the top 5 defenses and I traded one away towards the end of the season to add RB depth for a playoff run. Having the option because I intentionally drafted a 2nd strong def for matchups and late season trade opportunities was part of my strategy.

Going thrú old emails found info about starting a player with a bye, instead of using a player from the bench.

Thinking that these positions would be exempt due to scarcity: QB, TE, K, DST

THOUGHTS?

Hi gang -Rules changes for discussion based off thread/comments/etc. The three changes addressed are DST/IR/Bye Week.

Maybe open forum the 3 changes - narrow two choices so we can have a vote sooner than later. These are not the final items for vote - just recommended to start moving the ball forward on the changes so we can get a vote on the schedule.

DST -

1.) Eliminate DST effective immediately.

2.) Eliminate DST effective G24 Year 2017.

3.) Modify DST scoring effective 2016 by eliminating yards and points scored against. All other point factors remain (INT, TD, Sacks, Fumble Recovery).

Bye Week Fill Ins

1.) A player on bye week must be replaced by an active player at that position. Failure to substitute will be a roster violation and violator subject to forfeiture that week, 0 points.

2.) A player on bye week may be used, no penalty.

3.) Only one position can be filled by a player on bye week. If more than two positions are filled with a bye week player, this is a considered a roster violation. Forfeiture, 0 points for week is penalty.

IR

1.) No IR allowed. (status quo)

2.) 1 IR spot created. If a player is placed on IR for the year, the player is ineligible for return at any point of active season, and player placed on IR must be designated as Keeper for following season.

3.) 1 IR spot created, to be used throughout the season, and not specific to Keeper designation. Player placed on IR must be deemed "inactive" by NFL team before kickoff. Players on bye week are not eligible for IR. Violation of IR placement policy would result in loss of draft pick following season, beginning round 9. Each subsequent violation would be round 8, round 7, etc. If draft pick has been traded, draft pick penalty becomes round of lower number. (ie traded round 8, penalty is for round 7)

I would note that the penalty of zero points for using a player on bye week accomplishes nothing in the case of managers that are tanking, or not attempting to field competitive teams for some other reason. They don't care whether they win so zero points is as good as any other score to them.

It's also way too harsh for teams that are trying to field competitive teams but make a mistake and field a bye week player. At a minimum teams should receive one "mulligan"/warning.

Is it intended that the same principles that apply to bye-week players will also apply to players tho are "OUT" for the game, or on IR?

A relatively mild but relevant sanction where there is a bye-week or injured player in the lineup might be for the commissioner to drop one non-starting player from the manager's lineup before the next waiver deadline. The commissioner would attempt to select the drop least harmful to the manager's team, and would allow the manager to
argue who that player would be.

Hogwash.

The suggestion that someone you're competing against can drop a player from your roster - and make that God like decision - is ripe for disaster.

Again, I am baffled at the entire premise of being punitive against a team starting a bye week player.

Isn't it punishment enough that the team risks losing that week?

This is a very deep league. I will say this again - if I am a rebuilding team, I don't want to risk dropping a player who might help me down the road just so I can have an active body in my line up that might score a half point that week.

What exactly is this sort of rule trying to accomplish? As a rebuilding team, the short term goals of a rule like this hurt the long term goals of the league, and shouldn't rules be about bettering the league for the long term, not for one game?

Yeah, I am not in favor of requiring all byes to be filled. Think of it this way: The bye week period is usually from week 4 to week 10. Most teams are in it during this time and are still trying to win. Sometimes you have to do it because you have no other players. I have left Stafford in on bye on more than one occasion, and I think Ive won my matchup every time Ive done it.

The real issue should be playing byes when there are players who are playing on the team's bench. That's when you know someone is tanking.

BTW, in both G24 and G20 all this effort to try to stop tanking feels like a waste of time and effort. In G20 baseball this year my primary goal for this season has been finding enough GP from my hitters to make the ridiculous game play minumum which amounts to 153 GP per player. It's like a mini-game and not what we are supposed to be worried about - we are supposed to be worried about playing well or improving our teams.

We have all been playing together for YEARS. Why can't we just trust eachother?

Nerf,

I think There is MAJOR difference between G20 and G24 rebuilds.

The G20 rebuild does not affect anyone else. It is just you and your points.

A G24 rebuilds affects the rest of the league since the games are head to head and when one team is playing for the future (sometimes called "tanking") it can give an opponent a late season win they might not otherwise have had. This is not "fair" to the other teams in the league, This affects the standings, playoffs etc.

A G24 rebuilds affects the rest of the league since the games are head to head and when one team is playing for the future

So, we shouldn't try and rebuild? Again, in the long term, lower teams working their way to relevance should be of utmost importance, not worrying about getting an extra half point by playing the 5th string wr...

I mean, think about this - the suggestion is that rebuilding teams should drop a potential piece of their rebuild to gain an extra half point or so?

Come on... Is this serious?

74: Comment

I think it imprudent to vote on any proposal without knowing the range of penalties -- or to put it another way the seriousness with which the commish takes it -- in advance.

Under the old system, the penalties could range from a slap on the wrist to not being invited back next year. (And by and large I think that would still work.)

There's a big difference between managers who start a player placed on IR on Friday, and managers who pick up players on IR to be future keepers and start them simply ignore reminders that this is against the rules.

We must ensure that the 'no IR players in the starting lineup rule' penalty is strict, policed, and enforced.

Back a couple of years when it wasn't policed, one of the offending teams benefited greatly.

No need for a repeat of that.

76 brings out some really valid points.

1. with no punishment, what's the point of the rule?

2. how do you determine intent in regards to a big difference between managers who start a player placed on IR on Friday, and managers who pick up players on IR to be future keepers and start them simply ignore reminders that this is against the rules?

perhaps punishment should be cumulative - the first offense is a warning, the second offense is automatically dropping five spots in the draft, the third offense is automatically dropping to the end of the first round, the fourth offense is losing a first round pick (or, your earliest pick if you've traded away your first rounder), and the fifth offense is ejection from the league (in this case, i think it's fair that the first four penalties be waived when a replacement owner is found).

How about this:

You may only use a bye player as a starter if you have no player on your bench who could fill that position.

Agree with #74 & #70.

A rule cannot be broken without consequences. A person playing an IR player 5 weeks is either dumb, cheating, or ignorant. That is not a coach I want to play in a league with. Deception is a lie in this case.

Agree with Tree (Did I say that?) I'd prefer a 4 phase penalty, and/or prevention of trading future draft picks as an incentive prevent future occurances. 5 chances to play an IR player is excessive IMO.

I'd still like an opinion on eliminating the penalty (-1) on extra point tries. It's literally a field goal from 30+ yards.

Thanks, ds

Sure, get rid of -1. Or keep it. Whatever. I can't imagine anyone having strong feelings on this. :)

IR proposal
-----------
- Eliminate 1 active roster bench spot (so no net impact on waiver pool... actually most likely a net positive, especially early in the season)
- 1 IR slot to be used as a normal IR slot... no keeper requirements
- 2nd IR slot to be used as a "keeper-designated"... if you want to put a 2nd player on IR, one of them must be designated as a keeper for the following season
- Players are only eligible for Fantasy IR if they are on your team prior to being placed (or prior to being expected to be placed) on the NFL IR

If this passes, I'd also suggest an additional vote on exactly what statuses qualify for the IR slot. Could be as restrictive as IR-only, could be looser to include players who are declared "Out" or "Inactive" prior to gametime, etc.

(Re: -1 for XPs... again, don't care, but FWIW as a general principal I do NOT think we should base any decisions for this league on what RIFC does... this is a different, unique format and should be treated as such, let's not take our G24 cues from that other format or try to keep them arbitrarily aligned).

Re 85 -- Am opposed to decreasing size of bench. IR idea was originally suggested (2 seasons ago) partly to make it easier for people to field complete team despite injuries. This would make it harder to do that except for teams with player(s) on IR.

I am fine with the 2 IR slots, ordinary and keeper-only.

I inherited a seriously crappy team 8 years ago and rebuilt to make the playoffs the last 5 years under the old rules, so please stop with the "too hard to rebuild" BS.

This league was meant to be difficult and for managers to be forced to make difficult decisions.

If you want to play in an easy league there are plenty of Yahoo public leagues.

And with 24 teams with 9 keepers, the available player pool is already shallow enough, so adding IR slots is whimpy.

Being in a tough league like this used to be an honor. Now like the rest of most things these days, it's going soft. Really sad.

I am in favor of removing the -1 penalty for extra points as long as they remain 33 yard kicks. It has nothing to do with RIFC doing it or following them.. The miss penalty should be equal based on the level of difficulty. If we already had -1 for missing 33 yard field goals, than the -1 for extra points would also be appropriate.

Decisions need to be made.

So I am gonna put forth some statements on the thread for yes or no. If we go forth on any of them we will continue.

Some of you have been active on the thread and emails, but some of you have not been heard from.

As commish, I am not sure where to go. Is it my job to make a proposal based on what I read? I have no problem with that, but don't want to be dissed by you!

We need to move forward...time is getting short and we keep writing about stuff but never end up acting on anything!! Drives me nuts!

Topics that need a vote/poll

1. What to do about DST
2. Can a player on the NFL IR list be a starter?
3. Can you use a player on a bye as a starter if you have a potentially active player on the bench? Are some positions exempt (QB, PK, DST)
4. Do we want an IR slot?

I am more than happy to write a proposal to be voted on for any of those, but prefer it to come from a manager...

And then separately, what should the penalties for violators?

Comment in thread ONLY.

Two addenda to what I said above:

1. BYES:

If you start with the BYE issue, there are two alternatives.

One, as I said is to put a proposition like I mentioned above to a vote.

Another would be for the commish to simply declare that there is clearly no two-thirds consensus on the matter, that therefore no proposition will be put to a vote, and that the issue is dead for this year. Some of the discussion on this issue got heated this year, and it might be desirable to avoid a repetition of it. (Note to new managers: there is also an e-mail chain discussing this issue, which I assume you haven't seen.)

I haven't made an exact count, but the discussion on this issue seemed to me to be split about 50/50 with about 10 people participating, suggesting that there's no two-thirds consensus on anything.

2. D/ST:

I should have mentioned CT's helpful post at 61 on this.

These propositions could be put to an immediate vote:

1.) Eliminate DST effective this year.

2.) Eliminate DST effective next year -- 2017.

If both pass then 1) supersedes 2).

If both fail, as I would expect, then the various tweaks mentioned above could be put to a vote, if the commish so desires. Judy has a suggested tweak above, so that might be as good a place to start as any.

1. I would like to see D/ST eliminated, especially if there's already talk of reducing their value by removing some statistical categories. But it's not a hill that I'm willing to die on.

2. No, if they are on the IR then they shouldn't be allowed in your starting line up. There should be a strict penalty for starting someone who is on the IR when you have healthy players on the bench. Maybe a forfeiture of a draft pick for one week, and as it lasts, the further the draft pick moves up. (IE: Starting a player on the IR for one week, loss of 5th round, two weeks, loss of 4th round, etc.)

3. Starting players on bye is a tough one. If we do have that rule in place having an exemption for QB, D/ST, and K would be imperative.

4. Yes. But the player placed on IR would have to be kept for the next season.

This is how I voted in the polls with the reasons for my vote.

1. Players on bye may only be started for the QB, PK, and DST slots. If needed, penalties to be determined.

I do not agree.

2. A player on the NFL IR list may not be a starter in your lineup. If needed, Penalties to be determined after this vote.

I do not agree.

I don't think a manager should be forced to pick up a player at any position. We should let each manager determine what moves are the best for his franchise.

I think there should be a penalty for a manager who has a player on his roster that is not on bye or IR, and starts the bye or IR player instead.

3. What to do about DST

Eliminate DST for 2017

With the IDP positions we have in this league, I never saw a reason to have DST. Eliminating DST in 2016 will hurt owners with a strong DST keeper.

I had Ray Rice on my roster almost half the season last year before cutting him.

What about Tom Brady? 4 games is 4 games. The Cowboys have 2 D/L and a MLB on suspension for 4-10 games. I know there are more suspended players (Gordon).

What are we going to do with them? Are we going to start them? can of worms

I'm going to guess that Oakland's vote to Keep DST as it is is meant as a rejection of the proposal to keep DST but remove yardage and point stats (if the proposals to eliminate DST fail.)

That is why would one might vote both to eliminate DST and keep it.

Means that 9 votes to keep DST won't justify an immediate Election Central call that the vote to eliminate the D/ST has failed.

I will confirm that those rules were not up to date. The commissioner found the final rules used on CBS Sportsline. I had a copy, but it is on an old computer. A crucial difference is that the lines from the old rules "You must have a healthy player in your lineup each week. No IRs or Known OUTS/inactives/Suspensions" do NOT appear. It would appear that...

Eliminate-GST has been defeated with 9 votes against.*

Bye-start-restrictions are not officially dead, but may be given the last rites. All 7 non-voters would have to vote "Yes" for it to pass.

No-suspended-starters looks like it might win if everybody votes but is not a sure thing. Isn't voting on proposed rule changes part of the responsibility of a league member? It would be pathetic if it was defeated becuz 7 people didn't vote and the poll just closed at an arbitrary time. I would suggest extending the deadline 1 day, 2 days, whatever, until these people are heard from.

* - 9 votes not counting Oakland's. Oakland also voted to eliminate and should be presumed to have voted "Keep DST as is" in preference to "Keep DST and change formula."

I am unclear how the IR-slot poll is going to work.

Assume it gets 16 votes. What happens next?

Some people would only support such a slot if it is IR-Keeper (a player placed in the slot must be kept the next season.) Others might prefer IR-regular.

So if the proposal passes, will there then be a second vote to determine whether the position is IR-Keeper or IR-Regular? What if neither of those alternatives gets 16 votes?

There are other proposals above which would be relevant to the way the IR-Slot poll should be presented, but I will leave it to the makers of those proposals to elaborate further.

Ok then, the polls are over and in each there was a count of 15 to agree -- not enough to decide. However, As I noted a few times, I did not vote, as I wanted YOU to determine the "final answer".

But now I need to vote:

A suspended player may not be in the starting lineup.
I will vote to agree, thus the motion will pass.
This was a really close vote.
Here is my rationale:
if he is ineligible to dress for his actual NFL team, he should be ineligible to suit up for his g24 team.
This "matches" the no player on IR to start which we passed.

There will an IR slot in addition to the 20 on the roster
Right now I will vote to disagree, thus defeating the motion.
This was a really close vote again and my choice does make a difference.
Here is my rationale:
This league is tough enough without removing potentially 24 players from the FA pool. That said if you really want to keep the guy...

So here is a new poll related to this one. As commish, I will support this option.

If we add an IR slot to the 20 player roster, that player must be a keeper the following season.

Please go vote.

OK. But that last question sounds like a hypothetical one, a bit of philosophical musing, about something we might consider at some indefinite time in the future, maybe next year, maybe two years from now, maybe 5 years from now.

Are you putting forth a rules proposal for vote? If so, I suggest no pussyfooting around.

Something like: PROPOSAL: An IR-Keeper Slot to be added THIS YEAR, but any player on it must be a keeper the next season.

Penalties should be graduated. Starting, this year at least, with a warning. Tree's suggestion (IIRC) of a 5-ladder scale is the right sort of idea.

I don't think you need a vote on penalties, rather suggestions.

RE163: According to the poll "Each Team Will Have One Roster Spot for an IR Player In Addition to the 20 on the Roster." we currently have agreed on the addition to an IR spot. So now we need to decide that if the person who is in the IR spot needs to be kept or if that person is a eligible to dropped.

I also like Tree's 5 ladder scale of penalty for starting the player on the suspended or IR list and if we need it I'll second that as a proposal for the IR/SUSP penalty.

1) 16 is needed becuz two-thirds vote is required to make a rule change. I believe Judy said that in her very first e-mail on rules discussions this year.

2) I didn't take the first vote as a rules proposal as all -- it was too vague, and there was no assurance that a detailed one would get 16 votes -- but even if it was intended as such, and failed, there is nothing wrong with a commish, seeing a rules proposal has failed narrowly, to put forth an alternative that she thinks might pass (or even just one that she likes).

I think that is the essential job of a commissioner -- to bring order out of chaos.

Yeah the wordings are confusing... but apparently the first one, rather than being "should we have an IR slot and we'll figure out later whether it needs to be a keeper or not" (as I think it was described) was instead "should we have an unrestricted IR slot", and now we're voting on "should we have a restricted (keeper-only) IR slot"?

I know there was a deadline to vote, but I'd like to find out if on a close vote like this whether we reached out to everyone individually. Buffalo (Slizz) and Carolina (Wiggs) both voted in the 3 prior yes/no polls, did we reach out for their input on these last two close ones? Maybe they were just busy/overwhelmed with emails and a personal note would help?

And what's up with Jacksonville (Slack)? Only team that hasn't voted in a single poll I think (other than Judy/Arizona). Have we reached out? Do we have the right email? Want to make sure we're not down a manager...

Also, is an abstention the same thing as a No vote? That is, do we need 2/3 of the league to vote in favor a rule in order for it to pass, or do we need 2/3 of the votes to be in favor in order for a rule to pass? Because even with Judy's vote against, we had over 2/3 in favor of an IR slot (and 3 abstentions).

Interesting question. In the Ref days it was 16 votes, simple as that.

And in parliamentary procedure, an abstention generally has the same effect as a "No" vote on important questions.

But does the two-thirds requirement apply to the whole electorate, or only those present and voting?

I haven't checked but very much doubt the written rules specify anything. Which means (I believe) that Judy rules and her ruling (by default parliamentary procedure) can only be overridden by a two-thirds vote of all members...

I think one can see the point of the 16-vote requirement. It ensures that no big change can be passed, say, 12-6 (that's two-thirds) with 2 abstaining and 4 not voting.

The 16-vote requirement also encourages persuasion and get-out-the-vote efforts by everyone who feels strongly about a rule change, and doesn't put the whole responsibility on the commissioner.

I would think if a vote is that close we should have all 24 teams participating in the decision. We don't know for sure that a non-vote is a 'No' vote, and I would be wary of making that assumption.

They didn't vote.

I left my vote(AZ) to the end so as not to influence. I wanted you guys to choose.

I then voted and gave my rationale for my vote, which ended up deciding which I did not want it to do...

I assumed the poll results would be binding for a rules change and was told somewhere along the line that 16 votes were needed.

No changes to DST.
No IR slot.

A player on either the official NFL IR or suspended list may not be a starter in your lineup. Penalties to be determined by Labor Day 2016.

Also, no discussion of changes to either DST or IR slot until June of 2018. We are done. I am sorry not enough people voted to potentially make a difference. There is only so much a commish can do to get managers to vote.

Disciplinary Principles:

1. The penalties provided at all graduated stages shall be maximum and not mandatory, with the maximum penalty being reserved for infractions that are seemingly intentional or are repeated, lesser penalties for infractions that are seemingly negligent, and still lesser penalties, or no penalty, for infractions that are purely accidental or could have occurred despite the manager's reasonable care.

Example: No penalty shall ordinarily be assessed where a player is suspended or placed on IR within two (quaere three?) days of that player's next game but is nevertheless left in the lineup. Rationale: Managers may sometimes be in a position where they set part or all of a lineup two (or three?) days in advance and miss sudden suspensions or placements on IR.

Reverse of round two per post 160.

The rules T-D found just say "Waiver order will be established in the order of the supplemental draft and will not reset each week." but they don't mean to put the league winner #1 and the lottery order only affects the 1st round.

I will need to stop the draft to fix.

1 drop in slots only seems fair for the procedural error. He effected the entire draft.

Reverse of the order of the starting draft is the usual W/W setup. We are unusual as we do not reset the order after each week in the reverse order of weekly results. "Ref did it his way"

I'd pick Round 2 in order to reflect the final standings last year for W/W setup.

Here's a question for the MFL experts among us -- is there any way to import your personalized set-up of your home page directly from one league to another?

I don't think it's a matter of "Ref doing it his way", I think it was a notion that you could use your WW pickups strategically, especially in a league with such a shallow FA pool. I think it was one of many things we voted on as a league either initially (or rejected a proposal to change) at some point, and is a decision we made that I personally still agree with. In a shallower league, sure, do the weekly resets (although even then, in a couple leagues I'm in they only reset through the first 8-10 weeks)... but in this league resetting each week would be a bit extreme.

4 picks to go before mine, and I still get all giddy and worried that someone is going take "my" player. Maybe that's why I still play in this league after 15 years haha. A player I've barely researched and never heard of might be the answer to my team's future!

non lottery

right?

Why are we not in the regular football forum anyway?

It's actually the order of the second round so the lottery doesn't influence it.

The non playoff teams were always meant to get that advantage. Another bit of help for rebuilders.

Honestly? I like the way Ryan (GO) does it in f101.

This is a keeper league...so different waiver rules should apply. In a redraft league, I wholeheartedly agree that it should be the reverse round 2 draft order...The waiver spot is an extremely valuable commodity to sit on all season, and to reward the playoff teams puts the have nots at a sizable disadvantage.

In F101, the waiver order is re-established each week by way of record. That way it gives the teams at the bottom a chance to get back up quicker or find a keeper to get them better, faster. I find that way to be the most attractive option for keeper leagues.

Just my two cents.

222 Becuz we're a football league. We don't belong with the general discussions.

212 Do we have to go through this every year, despite the fact that the initial waiver order has ALWAYS been the same?? I guess so. I suppose we're making progress. Last year or the year before no one noticed the waiver order wasn't set up right till a coupla days before the first pre-season waiver run. (OK, no one except me.)

224 You have it the wrong way around. In redraft leagues it makes sense to reset each week -- the bottom teams need help. In a heavy keeper league I like this approach better. It would be absurd to base your draft position on whether your record is 1-1, 2-0 or 0-2 if a gamebreaking possible long-term keeper became available via waivers. And the "rebuilders" can hoard their high choices while the competitors can blow them every week to pursue small advantages.

Isn't that what we want - to ensure that we have a competitive league top to bottom?

The good teams honestly don't have to worry because they're good and the bottom feeders could use some luck. Teams 8-15 get squeezed early on.

Also, any ETA on the colts 2nd round pick?

I guess I was confused because..

RIBC, G20 baseball leagues discussion, draft, keepers, prospects etc. are in the regular Baseball Forum.

G20, RIHC NBA leagues discussion, keepers etc. are in the regular Basketball Forum.

RIFC discussion, startup and draft discussion… and LAST year’s G24 pre-season discussion are in the regular Football Forum.

But yeah. I guess it makes perfect sense. Cause it's a football league.

<218> I proposed a drop of 1 spot in the draft for the "Procedural Error" because he did not pick his "KEEPERS".

I thought that was appropriate since the league was delayed from Friday 8-19 until Monday 8-22.

As far as the reference to Ref, that was a joke.

However, who ever voted on an accumulated clock total (6 hrs)? After the time was used up, you automatically were skipped for the rest of the draft and drafted "as you could". Was that right? I sure didn't vote on it and it was put in after at least 3 years into the league's existence.
242Doug

Not sure, but I think maybe the accumulated clock was tracked... and the total limit (be it 6 or 8 or however many hours) was only applied when we were in jeopardy of not finishing or if there were some repeat offenders, etc... although maybe it did become a "preventative" measure at some point, I don't recall for certain either.

Re: 218... just a miscommunication... given the timing of the post, I thought you were referring the two 2-hour clock expiring on Promize, and wanting the player that was then taken at the next pick (Henry). Had we not corrected that, he would have in effect been penalized 1 slot for a perceived procedural error (timing out). I now understand you were instead responding to the question at the end of Judy's post 211... and that makes way more sense. :)

N/P Doug :-) I am a little slow in responding sometimes. Judy had stated earlier that the clock wouldn't be enacted until 9/29.

FWIW, how long is the clock? 2 hours?

FYI - The android "Play Store" carries the MFL phone app. It's great this year, and it's free! I'm tracking the drafts of G24 & AAA#2. Gotta play with my lab or she turns into a Bezerker at Midnight! hahaha

Judy - The Apple store may also carry it.

Ref was a stickler for the cumulative clock. Posted a chart daily. We joked about it, but it allowed us to start our draft the last possible day and still be done in time.

I never got (& still down) why we use two different forums (football / football leagues & standings) for G24.

To me, it is much easier to have everything under one roof. Like when I am trying to search for a certain thread or post, I have to look across two separate forums. Keeping everything in one forum would streamline everything...just my two cents.

I think we've officially migrated over to the Football Leagues and Standings forum over the General Football forum, so there's no need to worry about the fact we were originally in the General Football forum.

We're a league and we're not RIFC. I think it's only appropriate we use the Leagues forum and not clutter the general discussion with our league's talk.

RE:247 Last year the Kicker run started in round 4, so a little late this year. Either you get in on the early part of the run for the top kickers or just wait to pick from the scrubs a couple rounds later. In a redraft league I never draft a K until the last round, but different story for G24.

Perhaps Guru can opine on where he wants discussion threads.

I wouldn't exactly say we are cluttering up the football thread. There were like a dozen total threads all of last season and half were just RIFC.

I was always under the impression the Leagues and Standings forums were more for archiving of stale league data like when we got daily standings posted. Or to archive draft picks, end of season stats and then also the minor league RIXC league recaps etc.

And that the regular Football forum etc were for ongoing discussion and chatter.

Doesn't really matter anymore.

The separate leagues/standings forum was set up back when the forums were more active (more than a decade ago) , and I wanted to keep the main football forum reserved for discussion of general interest. The top RotoGuru Invitational leagues were in the main forum, but other leagues were generally asked to post in the leagues/standings forum.

Now that the forums are largely dormant except for league-related discussion, I don't really care. Suit yourself.
