Our draft will start on Thursday morning, August 25. I may actually turn it on on Wednesday evening, in case someone wants to get a jump.

The clock will be eventually be set at 4 hours per pick, with a pause from midnight to 8am ET. The first round will be untimed - but please do not abuse that privilege. The reason for an untimed 1st round is to make sure everyone is on board, alert, and knows how to make a pick. The clock will be turned on at the end of the first round.

In each of the past several years, a typical RIFC draft has taken 6-9 days. At that pace, we should be finished in the Sept 2-4 timeframe. Assume that we'll average three rounds per day. Early rounds tend to be a bit slower than the later rounds.

Rationales for each pick are optional for this league. If you wish to post any rationale, do so in the comments field on the MFL draft summary page (using the draft link on the left menu).

Starting in 2015, I made the following offer to all RIFC leagues. This adjustment applies only to players injured in preseason week #3. We'll "protect" a team who drafts a player before his week #3 game and who is injured in that game. If you are in that situation, you'll have a limited time to make a substitute pick - but only from the player pool still remaining.

So, for example, if Tim Tebow is drafted by Team X prior to his game on Aug 27, and Tebow is injured in that game, then Team X can jettison Tebow and substitute any other player who is still in the undrafted pool at the time of the jettison. This, however, must be done by the end of Monday, August 29.

While this obviously isn't complete insurance, it is designed to keep the draft moving during that first weekend. And it's certainly better than being stuck with an eventual free agent to replace an early draft pick. Hopefully, this situation will never come into play.

Here are some guidelines for executing your draft picks.
(These are copied from last year's RIFC thread. Please let me know if I have misspecified anything)

1. "My Draft List" - Under the "For Owners" menu (at the top), there is an item called My Draft List. You can think of this as your personal pre-ranking of players if you wish, although it has one important operational impact. If your 4-hour clock expires, then your pick will be automatically selected as the top name on your "My Draft List". Only if that list is empty will your pick be skipped. (More on this in a moment.)

2. "Pre-Draft Pick" list - You access this through "For owners->Draft"
These are the equivalent of the Drafttime.com "queue", with several important distinctions:
There is a separate list/queue for each round, and they do not carry over, and
If there is a name in your queue, that player will be immediately selected when it is your turn to draft. The only way to turn off a round-specific queue is to empty it. Therefore, it is important to keep your queues empty unless you are sure that they should be used. If you expect to want to load & unload your queue frequently (similar to turning it on or off), then you should probably keep a list of players in "My Draft list", as you can quickly pull up that short list to add players to any queue.

Of course, if you have players in "My Draft List", then you are also subject to having those players selected if you should time-out. Typically, that shouldn't be a problem, as timing-out should be a rare occurrence.

If you want to keep players loaded in "My Draft List" and you dont want to risk the top name being selected automatically upon timeout, then I suggest putting a "placeholder" player at the top of your list - preferably someone who is retired, or injured, or clearly not a viable pick. We can come up with specific placeholder options, if needed. If you time-out and a placeholder player is automatically selected for you, then you can have the commish replace that player with a real pick when you are available.

Note that because queued picks are automatically processed, there is no role tantamount to a designated picker. As commissioner, I can enter a pick on anyone’s behalf. Other than that, you – or anyone else with access to your MFL password – will be the only one who can directly enter a pick.

If your pick times out and is skipped, only the commissioner can insert a pick afterwards. If this happens to you, please send your make-up pick to me by email or text message. You can post here as well - but do not rely on this thread as the primary means of communication for a make-up pick.

If any of these instructions are unclear, please ask. And if anything is incorrect, please alert!

I turned on the draft at 10pm tonight.

Good luck.

Remember that to make your pick (or to set a queue), go to the top menu: For Owners->Draft

About to head for work.
Have not set up queue yet for first two picks.
Will look about every hour to see how things are going.
If it gets to me and I don't react quick, someone please text my cell.
Number is set up at MFL.

Thanks,
Cliff

after timing out for pick 17.12, I notified JoFo that he must make up his pick and select his pick at 18.03 by 5pm ET or I will skip him and move ahead.

If anyone else has a pick skipped, please send your makeup pick to me via email. You can post here as well, but I will see it sooner if you send via email.

Pretty disappointing progress for the past two days. 4 timeouts!

I'm on the road all day, so I'm not going to shorten the clock - as inserting makeup picks is problematic. At this stage of the draft, you should really be able to set up a queue for your last few picks, if access is a problem.

I may shorten the clock on Sunday, though, if today is a repeat of the last two.

Skipping JoFo again. He has one pick in arrears already, and has been on the clock again for more than 2 hours for his next pick.

This is the second time he's pulled this. Shows complete disrespect for other managers in the league.

Especially when you get near the end of the draft, you should be able to throw a few names into a queue if you aren't going to pay attention.

When skipping JoFo's pick at 24.03, I inadvertently managed to skip 24.04 as well.

I just reset the draft back to that pick.

There will be one post-draft blind bidding waiver period, to begin once the draft is completed. Claims will be settled at the usual 7:30pm Wednesday time. FCFS free-agent add/drops will begin at 10:30pm Wednesday.

Once pick 24.14 is made, the draft is closed. No make-up picks can be made after that time. Those slots can only be filled through waivers or free agent adds.

Seedings have been set.

Championship bracket includes the top 6 teams by W/L, plus the other two teams with the most points. In this case, Holt overtook GoatLocker for the last playoff spot.

Remember also that the top four seeds are set by W/L record, but the other four teams are seeded by points.

Blind bid dollars have been adjusted. The #1 seed gets an extra $16, #2 gets $14, etc.

Blind bidding is pushed back to 3pm ET Thursdays, to make sure that stat corrections have been processed and any seeding or team advancement is updated before bidding proceeds.

FCFS starts at 6pm ET Thursday.

Teams that are no longer active in the championship bracket are prohibited from any further add/drop transactions.

I have set up a consolidation bracket for the bottom six teams. Advancing teams from week #14 are the three game winners plus the loser with the most points scored. Nothing is on the line, other than pride.
