I had replied via email I believe, but hadn't been checking boards yet... so just confirming Raiders are in.
Looks like I have some potential keeper trade bait at WR: Sammy Watkins, Will Fuller V, Donte Moncrief, John Ross. Also open to moving Myles Jack at LB.

So, if we follow the pattern of last year, I have keepers due Wednesday, August 22, first draft pick (untimed) Saturday, August 25 (altho the draft may have opened on Friday night, not sure?), 4-hour clock begins Monday, August 27.
Does that sound right?

Yuck. I think I've set a record -- worst set of keepers for a team that was in the championship game. I'll be looking for 1 or 2, but I've literally just opened by football files today and it'll be a while before I'm up to speed.

For anyone who feels like their team is close to competing but lacks a rock solid QB, I present to you Big Ben Roethlisberger. He's on the block. This is the calendar MFL rolled over based upon our dates last year.
Select Keepers Wed Aug 8 2018 12:15 p.m. ET until Thu Aug 23 2018 11:00 p.m. ET
Draft Fri Aug 24 2018 8:00 a.m. ET
We can start untimed.

Yes, I have a comment. There are by my count 6 games on Friday and 7 on Saturday. Anyone who wants to spend a first-round or second-round pick on someone who may limp off the field for the season in one of those games must like skydiving without a parachute.
But as long as the clock doesn't start util Monday morning I suppose it does no harm to open the draft room on Friday. I am no longer going to do something stupid like pick a player who hasn't played his game yet that weekend out of an overdeveloped sense of duty.

I was considering keeping TE Trey Burton but thought I picked him up too late in the season and I was correct.
The rules state that
Only players on a manager's roster at the end of NFL Week 13 and who remain on that roster throughout the playoffs are eligible to be kept the following season.
I looked at last season's transactions and determined that these players are not eligible to be kept because they were acquired after week 13.
Indianapolis Colts Jared Cook TE Avery Williamson LB
Buffalo Bills Kerwynn Williams RB Zach Vigil LB Chris Conte S Anthony Lanier DE Antonio Gates TE
Detroit Lions Tom Savage QB Stephen Anderson TE Clay Matthews LB
New York Giants Trey Burton TE
Kansas City Chiefs Tion Green RB
New Orleans Saints Sean Devis S Danielle Hunter DE Kapri Bibbs RB

Comments: And my 6th for your 8th.. Not sure you saw my emailed response... Dixon is also in play, but my man crush on Cohen is strong.
I think this needs to also be accounted for in the 2018 draft(Broncos 6th for Ravens 8th). Let me know if I am mistaken.

Considering training some of my potential keepers as I figure out the last 2 spots. If you are interested in any of them for a mid to later round draft pick trade, let me know.
Doug Martin, RB, Oak - currently a keeper as he’s in line to get decent run this year under Gruden Tyrell Williams, WR, LAC - currently a keeper as he’s a big beneficiary of Hunter Henry’s injury for the Chargers Keelan Cole, WR, JAC - 2nd year player that had a big finish to 2017 and is also on my short list of keepers Paul Richardson, WR, WAS - Good year in Sea last year and now the #2 WR in WAS for Alex Smith

Just a small correction to Tree's statement -- it is how the Team D's are projected to finish next year (before the season) that will determine the order of picking in the IDP draft.
Of course, there is, I would suppose, a significant correlation between where a Team D finishes this year and where it will finish next year.

Ok, lots of trade offers still being throwing around and I've got several more in discussions. Still listening to offers for the 4 players listed above as well as my keeper TEs Howard and Kittle.
I've also had some discussion about whether I'd trade Cam Newton if the offers were super solid, so pretty much anyone on my roster could be had for the right price. I've also been asked about trading down in the first round, so if you are interested in pick 1.03 let me know.

In the spirit of getting things moving, I would suggest that Chicago's keepers (if not entered in MFL) be Kirk Cousins QB, Devonta Freeman RB, Delanie Walker TE, Los Angeles Chargers Team D, Jean Pierre-Paul DE, Jatavis Brown LB, Morgan Burnett DB, Karl Joseph DB,; that's 8; the final one I guess would be Frank Gore (?) . Perhaps not the best, but that's the consequence of not getting your keepers in.

That should be a reasonable 9:

Judy,
I’ve been in the hospital since Wednesday morning. Got home last night, however I couldn’t make G24 a priority and any communication has been difficult for me.
Your email suggested that I was an issue last year. I certainly don’t recall it that way. Several years ago I had lost my job and focus on fantasy football was difficult at the time.
I’ve been in this league since the beginning. Didn’t have any intention of quitting. If you haven’t replaced me already, I’d like to draft my team and play. Otherwise, let me know.
Thanks!

I am actually the source of the error that there was a problem with your keepers last year. Checking old threads, I see that it was actually 2 years ago -- in 2016, not 2017 -- that your keepers were picked for you...Seemed like just yesterday to me, the old memory not working like it should.
I apologize for that, and am glad you're out of the hospital.

CC Keepers
sorry to hear about your health problems and I apologize for propagating Toral's mis-statement about 2017 Keepers. With you having zero board postings and no keepers posted or discussed, hard to discern your intention to participate.
I am glad that you are still committed to G 24.
I have posted your keepers per MFL @ 2:30 today in the G 24 Keeper thread with all the other final keepers.

GO - You can copy a queue from the previous round (IE: queue for Round 8 to Round 9 as long as you've not made the pick for Round 8 yet). IDK any other way to do it.
I start with building a huge queue before the draft and eliminate positions as I fill them or slide them out of consideration (for a later pick).
I agree the failure of taking drafted players out of your pending queues is a pain in a private body part and a time consuming issue to boot.

Not sure if this has come up before, but does special teams get credit for a TD if it's the offense special teams that scores it? This happened in the Titans game when they ran a fake and threw for the TD. I thought a Team Def / Special Teams which is what we use is supposed to get credit for any special teams TD that is scored.

well, in our league, i'm pretty sure that position is listed as "def" and not "dst".
furthermore, i think it's a reaaaal stretch to give credit to Def or even dst when the offense scores a touchdown, even if there are special teams players on the field at the time.

The only thing the special teams part of DST gets points for is return TD's, which incorporates special teams and defensive returns.
Return yards belong to the player returning. Sadly, we never give return yards to an IDP on a turnover, nor do we give TFL/sack yards lost. I think that is a hole in our points system.

We have fought over DEF scoring for over a decade so hard and as long as it was possible to fight. Tree wasn't even there at the time, but he's right about the scoring philosophy.
Thank the Almighty they're (DEF, D/ST, call it what you want) gone next year. Russell Wilson's Pick Six cost me two wins this week (as I see it).

Our scoring Rules for team defenses say "Number of Defensive & Special Teams TDs" is 6pts, so if the special teams runs a fake punt and scores a TD then the team defense gets credit for it. What if on the punt return the return team fumbles and then the punting team recovers and scores a TD? Same difference, but in that case I think the system picks it up, but can't say for sure.
And I agree it is good to not have to deal with it next year once Team Defense is phased out.

It shouldn't. That's an offensive play. Pointage isn't decided by who's on the field.

It's fine, it didn't end up changing the outcome of the matchup, but there's never been a definitive ruling that I know of in all these years that we've played with Defense/Special Teams that something didn't count if the offensive special teams initiated the play.
On Kickoffs, the team kicking used to be able to get credit for a forced fumble, fumble recovery or a TD if they recovered and scored, but we removed everything a few years ago for special teams including yardage except for TDs since there was overlap with the IDP positions. So why would a punting special teams be excluded from being able to score a TD?

It's not like nobody has ever scored on a fake punt before in this league. Last year, Corey Grant ran on a fake punt for a 56-yard TD against the Chargers. No points to the Team D, and no one thot to suggest that they should be credited with any.
That's just the first I found and bothered to look up. Sure there are others.

exactly my thinking here. also, maybe this will post once, not three times.
last year, the Patriots did a fake punt with a direct snap to some random dude. he got the first down on an 8 yard scamper or something similar. would we give those yards to DST/Def?
doing a bit of research, i stumbled onto this.
i'd say that about sums it up - if the foot of the punter/kicker doesn't touch the ball, it's an offensive play, not a special teams play.

A fake punt/kick is essentially going for it on 4th down. It's an offensive play, not a special teams play. Even if it wasn't intentional, like a muffed snap, it's still an offensive play until the kick is made.
Once the kick is made, the offense/defense turns into special teams, and will get credit for TD's and turnovers as a team. When both teams become special teams, they can get credit for any touchdown scored, because the kicking team is technically on defense once the kick is made.
The real sticky to me would be if, after a turnover on a normal play, the defense subsequently turned the ball over on the return, and an offensive skills player then returns that for a TD. Does that TD count on his team's DST?

Sounds reasonable to me. Guess you have to have a line of what constitutes an offensive play vs a special teams play. Now what if the punter attempts to kick it, whiffs and then inadvertently kicks the ball as its rolling on the ground and the offense picks it up and runs it in for a TD? haha just kidding there as there's always a crazy scenario that could happen

Man, my PA is better than most team's PF at this point. Unbelievable.
Points are through the roof this year. Two teams are averaging over 130 points, and another two over 120 (I've played 3 of those teams), in a league where you usually get to the playoffs with a 105 average. I'm seeing this in RIFC too - my AAA team hasn't scored fewer than 140 points has already lost twice. Offenses are going insane.

So quiet...
Anyways, there's something seriously wrong with the schedule. The Panthers played three games last week - against the Raiders, Giants, and Vikings. This gives them 15 games played. Meanwhile, the Eagles are missing a game. I think the Eagles were meant to have played one of the games attributed to the Panthers, but I don't know which one. This has serious playoff implications, depending on which game was supposed to be played by the Eagles and not the Panthers.

Ouch. I feel bad enough finally getting two matchups in the 80's, and losing both of them. I score 125 points without my QB, but 3 weeks later can only manage 80 with basically my full compliment. Fantasy football is a funny game.
3 weeks ago I was on the brink of throwing in the towel, then took the lead in the division. Now it's a dogfight to the end. There's no chance at a wildcard for the NFC South. The playoffs start now.

All are performing well at their position and can give you a boost/depth where you might need it:

Just a thought but somewhere in the week 8-10 timeframe a lot of teams start getting "reasonably but not mathematically" eliminated. If these teams keep making roster moves to maximize weekly scoring they basically are just hurting themselves for next year... by (a) getting a worse draft slot most likely, and (b) potentially giving up a potential keeper-stash roster slot. Take YR (Bengals) for example, who was basically eliminated by week 9, but since has won 6 in a row and moved from the #5 slot to the #13 slot in those 3 weeks. This is admirable, but works against his own long-term interests. (Full disclosure I'm in a similar boat, but have only won 4 of 6 to move from #7 to #11 in same timespan, and still had a long shot of getting a wildcard spot after week 9).
It would be nice if there was a way to provide a better incentive for late-season performance for these eliminated and "bubble" teams. A few thoughts off top of head include basing draft slots on standings as of some week prior to 13 (maybe in the week 8-11 timeframe? Or perhaps averaging standings as of weeks 8 and 13?)... or we could adjust prize pool to create some sort of $ prize for the non-playoff teams with the best points/record over the last X weeks of the season, etc. Also I'm not sure how our lottery odds are currently constructed but we could flatten the odds for teams 5 or 6 through 16 if they aren't already (so that late season wins still hurt your default draft slot, but at least don't hurt your lottery odds in addition to that). Admittedly note of these are well-vetted ideas, they're just off top of head... but curious what others think or if we could come up with other ideas to improve the late-season incentive for non-playoff teams (in addition to pride/honor).

I am enjoying a nice run right now. I could have started worse options on my roster the past few weeks for a better draft position next year, but not every such decision would have resulted in less points. The last 2 weeks I could have played my worst players and still would have gone 2-0 both weeks.
I am definitely looking to fill my roster with players that may have keeper quality the next few years. my 10 players at QB/RB/WR are on average 23 years old. too bad that most of these players are performing right now.

You're right. There's currently no incentive to keep winning, especially in football, where you can get an immediate impact player with a top 5 draft slot. Teams, are, in fact, built around having a bad season every few years to get that guy. There's honestly no other way to do it in this league. Very few long term impact offensive players are taken after pick 15 in the draft. I've been trying for years to find a WR in the later part of the first round with absolutely zero success. Imagine if you needed a QB or RB. Even harder.
I'm not sure what the solution is, honestly. It's not like the rich can really get richer with this system. In order to get that impact player, you're going to need to have a bad season every once in awhile. That keeps teams cycling through from bad to good, to bad, etc. But one player means so much in this league. Gurley accounts for 20% of my scoring this year. In the past, I've counted on QB, RB, DST to score half my points, and the rest get the other half. It's quite a different feel than most other fantasy leagues I play.

Any serious incentive should concentrate on the draft. The money is a matter of indifference to me. just there for the heckuva it, really.
There are two classes of teams that might deserve better draft potential, either through improved draft lottery odds, or improved draft position:
1. The best teams in the league that DON'T make the playoffs.
2. The teams with the best records between, say weeks 7-13 or 8-13 that DON'T make the playoffs.
That's a long way from a solution, but might serve as a a starting point.

I agree with Toral.
For the first time since joining this league, my team was out of playoff contention heading into the last few weeks of the season.
I had Flacco as my starting QB, I scrounged the waiver wires to find a QB the last few weeks. I picked up Bears QB Chase Daniel last week which allowed me to win a game I otherwise would have lost.
Was this in the best interest of my franchise? Probably not because it decreased my draft lottery odds and draft position.
Nobody would anyone have complained if I did not do this. I just did it because I think it is in the best interest of the league to field the best possible lineup each week.
I don't think we should reward franchises with high draft picks for tanking or apathy.

It takes a bit of work, but another thing that another league I'm in does is calculate what each teams total points would have been if they had fielded their best possible lineup each week (i.e. made flawless lineup decisions) and then use that to determine the draft order (and/or lottery order) for non-playoff teams.
It doesn't remove the incentive for teams to build their rosters focused on next year instead of this year, but it does at least remove any incentive to field less-than-your-best lineup in the current year.

One solution would be to reduce keepers to 8 (from 9). That would make the first round more lucrative for teams in the 9-16th pick range. That 9th keeper has never really been a good player anyway. Usually, for me, it's been a DB or something similar. An extremely fungible player.

I don't know about that, I feel like I'm going to be in that range this year and most likely would be using my pick on the guy who otherwise would have been my 9th keeper.
I've got 2 QBs, 5 RBs, 3 WRs, 2 TEs who all have keeper-quality potential... not to mention Kuechly at IDP. That's 13 players for 9 slots. Don't drop me to 8! If I did it would probably mean I'm using that first round pick to reacquire a player I dropped (or similar caliber), whereas at least now I can use it to roll the dice on a rookie or pick up a high-value IDP, etc.
So IMO that would just exacerbate the situation for me and make draft position even more important, not less so. I get what you're saying about having more talent so there is less dropoff from early 1st to mid 1st picks, but it comes at too high a cost. If you're keeping a DB you should probably be trading a mid-rounder to upgrade your last keeper slot! :)

That 9th keeper has never really been a good player anyway.
huh?
i'm struggling to dwindle my keeper list to 9 players.
2 QBs, 3 RBs, 3 WRs, 2 TE, and 3 IDPs that are keeper level.
if you're struggling to find 9 keepers on your roster, i'll happily put together a package to peel Gurley off your hands :D

I guess I just do more with less. Ive almost always had a DB as a keeper. This past season I came off a playoff year and kept the likes of Marqise Lee, Lattimore, and Rishard Matthews. None of them were any good this year, but they werent exactly great last year.

What a strange season. Scoring was through the roof this year, but that didn't show up in the NFC South standings, or in the performance of the NFC in general, as the 14-12 49ers make the playoffs. Usually, if you get to 11 losses in this league, you're out. The AFC dominated, as 7 of the top 9 scoring teams were in that conference. Inexplicably, the #1 scoring team in the league misses the playoffs, and not barely. The Broncos outscored the next best team by 58, and is out by 2 games.

Concur with Pete. As per the rules:
Playoff seeding: #1 seed = division winner with best record #2 seed = other division winner #3 seed = wildcard team with best record #4 seed = other wildcard team
Seeds #1/#4 and Seeds #2/#3 play in week #14, with the winners advancing to meet for their respective conference championship in week #15. Each conference winner will advance to the Super Bowl to be held in week #16.
KC #1 @ 20-6 Buffalo #2 @ 19-7 Jacksonville #3 @ 18-8 Cleveland #4 @ 17-9

The Broncos outscored the next best team by 58, and is out by 2 games.
hell, i outscored the playoff-bound 49ers by almost 400 points.
injuries to Henry (preseason), Gordon, Green, Kupp, and (ultimately) Olsen decimated my team.
still, it seems like teams showed up to play when they were scheduled against me - i believe i had the 4th highest PA in the league.
no other playoff bound team came within giving up 100 points of what i did, Cleveland and KC (my division) weren't within 200, and San Francisco (again) wasn't within 300.
it's depressing and mind blowing. i mean, just some unbelievably bad luck.

194: Slizz has been piecemealing his team pretty much all year and miraculously has made it to the G24 SB. Incredible feat considering Bell has been a waste, Hunt lost for the playoff run and Wentz out. I look at his WRs, in particular, and am stunned he made it. G24 Manager of the Year.

Thanks Pete. Appreciate it!!! Next man up! Just take it a week at a time. My goal coming into 2018 was to float around .500 until Bell reported (around week 8) and run the table. Needless to say, that didn’t happen...
Of my offensive keeps: QB - Wentz out for the playoffs (again) RB - lost both Bell and Hunt! WR - Parker was a non-factor TE - Ebron has been amazing sans last week!
One more week and it’s on to 2019, hopefully my boys can keep fighting their way to a repeat!
Best of luck to Seattle!

i'm also looking to make some moves - several off-season moves in the NFL boded well for my team (Howard leaving the Bears, Ingram signing with the Ravens, and ODB leaving NYG, not to mention Quinn looking like the 'Skins slot guy and Martin re-signing with the Raiders because Crowell got hurt), so i feel as though i have a surplus.
i'm mostly looking for picks, although multi-player deals aren't out of the question.
among those available: AJ Green Doug Martin Kenneth Dixon Trey Quinn Sterling Shepherd Greg Olsen Michael Gallup
CJ Mosley Avery Williamson Jaylon Smith
