Schedule and Playoffs - A 14-game H2H season with 3 divisions, followed by 3 sets of 4-team playoffs in weeks 15 and 16. 3 division winners and a wild card (best record) goes to "Fantasy Bowl" for leauge championship. Next 4 teams (based on record) go to ".500 Bowl" and bottom 4 teams go to "Toilet Bowl". The winner of the "Toilet Bowl" (playoff between bottom 4 teams) gets the first pick in next year's draft, followed by the runner-up. 3rd and 4th picks determined by record, such that the team with the worst record in the league is guaranteed to at least get the #3 pick, even if they lose in the first round of the playoffs. Same logic applies to ".500 Bowl" for picks 5-8).

The tiebreaker for determining who gets the wild card slot for teams with identical H2H records is (1) face-to-face record during the regular season, (2) total fantasy points for the season, (3) coin toss.
Also under discussion is if/when we will realign the conferences/divisions for parity.

Ugh heh I was thinking all weekend it was a double 6 playoff and I was shooting for the 6th seed. Sure enough I get it, but it doesnt put me in the championship tourney. Ahh well. :P

It's amazing how the records came out tho. beebop and I were both at 4-7 and we came back to win our last three games. I can at least take that into the offseason as a plus. I just wish I could get off to good starts in fantasy football.

With the exception of three teams parity is definitely here. It's good for the league, but Im sure somewhat frustrating to the managers as far trying to build momentum and consistency. It was definitely and interesting season. Good luck into the playoffs!

Can you say parity? For the wildcard spot...

7-7 - 3341 - Art of Monk
7-7 - 3330 - Del Boca Vista Puppet Masters
7-7 - 3301 - beebop
7-7 - 3300 - Nerfherders
7-7 - 3300 - Long Beach Lightning

The middle playoff tier was named the ".500 Bowl" just as general term to indicate it was for the middle 4 teams, but amazingly ALL teams in the .500 Bowl will have a .500 record. So who's the lucky winner of this group who makes it to the Fantasy Bowl? In other words, who has the honors of getting beat by AP10 next week? ;-)

Well, Art scored the most points, BUT the first tiebreaker is the face-to-face records between these teams. Note that Nerf, Art, and Long were in the same division, so had an extra game against one another, whereas beebop and Del only faced each of the other wildcards once.

4-0 - beebop
3-1 - Del Boca Vista Puppet Masters
3-3 - Nerfherders
2-4 - Art of Monk
1-5 - Long Beach Lightning

So, basically beebop's 205-201 win over Del in week #8 is what got him into the fantasy bowl. Wow.

Also note that the west division didn't have a single team with a losing record! I really enjoyed this league this year and I think this was a STELLAR end of the season... I hope we'll all be back next year, and for now I'm just trying to get my team ready for the playoffs. They say they're going to limit Faulk's minutes the rest of the season, so I may be in trouble... =-(

Copied that last post over from the other thread... turned out I was working on it while Derek was already posting!

Also, remember that teams in the .500 bowl and Toilet Bowl are playing to determine their draft pick next year! Personally, I think they should be playing for their "draft slot"... for example, I might prefer picks 4 and 21 to picks 1 and 24. I might "throw" a playoff game to get the slot I wanted. With the "draft slot" method, you're motivated to win to try and get the slot you want (2nd worst team would get second choice of draft slot, etc.) If we did it this way, I guess you'd have to announce your draft slot either (a) right after playoffs complete, or (b) at same time you announce your keepers. Anyone else have thoughts on letting teams pick their draft slot?

Actually, just realized that the draft does NOT snake until round 3... so in the example I put above it would be a choice between picks (1.1, 2.1, 3.12, 4.1, 5.12, etc.) and picks (1.4, 2.4, 3.9, 4.4, 5.9, etc.). Given this fact, I guess we don't really need to do the draft slot thing, as I think just about everyone would want the highest round 1 and 2 pick they could get.

No, since we have a minimal number of keepers (only 8 players kept with 19 starting each week), we have to snake the draft. Compare this to the 24-team league that many of us are in, where you keep 9 players even though you only start 8 each week... you actually get to keep a bench guy! A non-snaking draft would be too big of an advantage to the bottom teams given our low keeper amount, but by postponing the "snaking" until round 3 the lower teams are given a definite advantage (since each successive round of the draft is less and less valuable). This is outlined in the rules (link on the league homepage). HTH.

Congratulations and good luck to everyone. Im confident of at least making it a close contest with Ap10. When we met, i lost by less than 20, that was with Faulk not playing and getting me a big fat 0. But then, on the otherhand, he has only lost 1 matchup, and i could get thrashed.... either way, itll be fun.

Because we're all conspiring to hold you back, lazio. In the past, I've just emailed my waiver pickups (and corresponding drops) to Derek and he has taken care of it... but if the website is somehow behaving differently it's possible that they cut off waivers now that the regular season is over.

Are the posted league rules correct in saying that we do not get points for 2 point conversions? Or is this simply an oversight (ie it was mistakenly omitted from the rules)?

Art - I haven't won yet. I have only ST left tonight. And you know how ST goes. I average 14 points a game with ST but its like this: 0, 30, 0 28, -2, 25. You never know with ST. I'm hoping they do just good enough. I think I need 2 points or something close to that.

I am compiling stats for our league and will have season rankings and awards! Here are some of the categories I will be showcasing:

Best Offense
Best Special Teams
Best Defense

Best by position (QB through DB)

team capsules: best player, most dissapointing player, surprise player.

Look for it in January!

nerf, I think you should also add, best FA pickup and the worst FA drop. This is the most complex league I have ever played in. I think their will be some minor scoring tinkering for next year. I had a blast in the leauge. Even though I choked at the end of the season.

Wow... Pro Bowl teams were announced today, and all four of my DB's made it. Biggest snub on my team was Donnie Edwards. 6 INT's, second on my team in points.

I find it interesting that high DB points in our league doesnt necesarily = RL performance. Fantasy DB is weighted towards tackles, and unless youve got a safety that plays run alot, a good DB should NOT have many tackles. That means he's catching players downfield. In some cases, great DB's are silent as far as fantasy because they are SO good nobody dares throw to them. Sam Madison is one of those types.

Even though I have four DB's in the pro bowl, I will not be winning top DB this year. I believe those honors will be going to Doug unless something drastic happens this week. :)

Derek - If at all possible could you give an unofficial tally of the championship game score heading into monday night's game? According to the website you have a slight lead, but I know that's wrong because the Lions ST had a huge game, so I think I might actually have a slight lead instead. I think you'll pull it out though with Steelers OL and D. Brooks still unaccounted for. Somebody spiked Amani Toomer's water today...

I am waiting for Nerf's awards, I already know I locked up the chock of the year. Beebop has to win some award for not offering any trades. I thought he would atleast pull off a couple during the season. Beebop we will still have to do a deal once we have the baseball draft.
AP10 should we post suggested changes. I also want to thank you for all of your hard work. I am sure you have some minor changes that you want to address. One thing that might be fun that I did in another league was to have week 17 be a probowl. All 3 divisions against each other. Each team needs to have 4 players for the pro-bowl. It was some good smack talk. I am sure the west coast division would have won.

I did make 1 trade, for some reason it went unnoticed and luckily enough i had already set my lineup, because we both would have been able to have Tiki Barber and Hines Ward starting in the same week. For some reason there was no waiting time, it went through straight away. Oh well, dont hear me complaining ;)

Wiggs, I guess I will give you the choke award. I think I only lost my last 5 games. I also recall you signed a replacement for Kile. Nerf, I know of atleast one trade you might need to make. Once again I am willing to dump pitching for some hitting. I just hope the mets can hit this year.

Like I said, I thought i remembered signing someone, but it wasnt updated on the website so I thought I made that trade in a different league.

Ok guys. I was truly going to update the records and verify the final games but I couldnt view the lineups on the league website and I didnt know how to access. After a week, their tech support got back to me on how to view past lineups.

Working on it now! Promise :)

Could someone please explain to me how I have the 7th pick? From the league rules:

"The winner of the "Toilet Bowl" (playoff between bottom 4 teams) gets the first pick in next year's draft, followed by the runner-up. 3rd and 4th picks determined by record, such that the team with the worst record in the league is guaranteed to at least get the #3 pick, even if they lose in the first round of the playoffs. Same logic applies to ".500 Bowl" for picks 5-8)."

I won the ".500 bowl", so I should have the 5th pick. Also, the rules state,

"Next year (and beyond), picks 1-8 determined by "Toilet Bowl" and ".500 Bowl". Remaining first-round picks determined by record (worst to first). First round order repeats in the second round, then goes serpentine style from there (first-to-worst in rounds 3, 5, 7, etc.) The 23-round draft will take place approximately 4 weeks before the first game of the season each year. Exact times/dates will be determined by the commish after consulting with the managers. "

This means that the first line of AP10's last post should read: "Next Year's Draft Order (first 2 rounds)". The order will then follow the traditional serpentine style.

Also, when will the player stats on the league website be updated? The only stats available are those through Week 14.

One more thing, have we made any progress on finding another manager to replace Silent Devils? I was thinking about making a trade with that team but I am unable to until we find another owner.

Yes dgrooves is correct about the draft order. I was expecting have the 6th pick in the draft for the first two rounds, and then go 7/6/7/6/7/6 the rest of the way.

The order should be, according to the playoff rules:

1. Ike44 (Toilet Bowl Winner)
2. Commish (Toiler Bowl runner-up)
3. Sandwhich Town Statics (10th seed)
4. Junkyard Dogs (9th seed)
5. Del Boca Vista Puppet Masters (.500 winner)
6. Nerfherders (.500 runner-up)
7. Long Beach Lightning (8th seed)
8. Art of Monk (7th seed)
9. beebop (4th seed)
10. Italian Eagles (3rd seed)
11. Furious Midget Klingon Horde (2nd seed)
12. Birds of Prey (1st seed)

Does this look right to anyone else?

Nerf, I think that is correct. I was expecting the 8th pick. My question is what rules do we want to change and when do we have to declare our keepers?

And now the awards:

BEST OFFENSE

The award goes to: Beebop!
With a dominate running game lead by Priest Holmes, Marshall Faulk, and Tiki Barber, beebop literally ran away with the award.

runner-up: AP10. Great seasons by Terrel Owens and Charlie Garner got AP10 to second place in offense, overcoming shaky (at times) QB play.

BEST DEFENSE:

The award goes to: AP10!
Nudging Doug by 2 points in the final week of the season, AP10 takes the defensive honors. AP10 featured an unbelievable linebacking core of Brian Urlacher, Derrick Brooks, and a wonderful rotation of Hartwell, Quarells, and Jones.

runner-up: Furious Midget Klingon Horde. Da Horde put up impressive numbers defensively, featuring the best DB lineup in the league.

BEST SPECIAL TEAMS

The award goes to: Italian Eagles
The Eagles, led by a tandem of NY Jets and SD Chargers, as well as Sebastian Janikowski, annhilated the competition in special teams, taking the honor by an impressive 95 points.

runner-up: Furious Klingon Midget Horde. The Horde again come in second, led by John Carney and the Lions.

Stay tuned for position awards!

I know how Derek got to be 15-1. He was lucky. Some statistical analysis proves it. Whether 11-5 or 15-1, the result was the same, though. :)

  • Waivers – The current system we have, of waiting for commissioner approval of drops, is both annoying and a violation of our rules. I find it a hassle to have to wait a day or two for the drop to be processed, thereby lengthening the time it takes to make a waiver claim from the rule of 48 hours to (potentially) 96 hours. We should be able to drop players immediately so we can add a player at that time. In most cases, I needed to check the website many times after a drop request to see if it had been processed; only then could I add the player I wanted.

  • Special Teams Yardage Rounding – The way special teams are scored is, again, technically a violation of our rules. The special teams “players” are supposed to gain 2 points for every 10 return yards gained. The player should thus gain 2 points at the end of every 10 yard interval: after 10 yards, after 20 yards, etc. However, as we are all probably aware, the yardage is rounded up, effectively changing those intervals; 2 points are awarded after 1 yard gained, 11 yards gained, 21 yard gained, etc. Same logic applies to return yards allowed. In most cases, the scoring error (rounding yardage up) actually produces the same scores as rounding yardage down does, but there are certain yardage totals that will yield different scores. For example, say a special teams player gained 100 yards on returns and allowed 70 yards. Under the current system, this player would have scored 10 points (100 yards gained -> 20 points, 70 yards allowed -> -10 points). If the yardage is not rounded up (as is the case for all other positions in our league), the special teams player would have scored 12 points (100 yards gained -> 20 points, 70 yards allowed -> -8 points). You can see the difference in scores is small, but, if only for the sake of consistency, I think we should correct this error.

  • Fumbles vs. Fumbles Lost – I would like to see us only deduct points from a player if he loses a fumble. I don’t really have much of an argument for this, but if his team still has the ball, why should he lose 3 points?

  • 2 Point Conversions – These should be included in our scoring.

  • Offensive Line Scoring – Coming into the season, I thought we had a very good system for scoring these players, but it fell short of my expectations. Sacks and touchdowns were roughly equal, essentially canceling each other out. This basically left rushing yards, meaning scores almost always ranged from 8 to 16. I don’t have a suggestion for another scoring system, but I think we should consider some systems where an OL at least has the possibility of being the top scoring player for the week.

  • Deadline for Adds/Drops – Nowhere in our rules did we set a deadline, but it seemed that after week 14, when the playoffs started, we were unable to add or drop players. I don’t know if this was a bug with the software, but I think we should follow our rules for future seasons.

  • Roster Submission – I think we should make a rule that if a lineup is not submitted but the deadline for that week, the team’s lineup from the last week should be used. Failure to submit a roster may have even affected the playoff seedings and who got to play in which bowls because The Italian Eagles got a win off of a forfeit in week 7.

FYI Derek, the player stats on the league website are still wrong. Also, any progress in finding another owner to take over Silent Devil’s team?

dgrooves, I like your suggestions. However, 3 of the problems you outlined (Waiver, roster submission & deadline) were limited by the software and was the best we could do with what we had. Obviously next year I will not be using the same software. IMHO it was a waste of $70, out of my pocket. So that should fix those problems.

Anyways, my suggestion is to look around and try to find other commissioner software/websites. I'm looking into Rotowire's Football Commissioner. While everything looks great, they are missing some essential scoring categories that our league needs along with scoring for OL. I will be emailing them as soon as I can to see if they could add my requests. If they can add all or most of my requests, then that is probably where we will be moving to.

Keep looking however, nothing is set in stone.

I like those ideas as well, drgooves. I also came up with possible socring changes to both ST and OL. They are in one of those previous threads. I think they worked okay. OL's came out to be basically the same for every team. ST was the exact opposite. Both need to be tweaked I think.

In addition to 2 point conversions being added, I would also like to add blocked kicks/punts to the ST. Arguments that there arent enough of them to matter? Certainly there's more blocks than ST touchdowns. And it is certainly a sign of great special teams to have a blocked kick. As much as scoring a touchdown.

Here's my post about scoring changes:

I would like to start a discussion about scoring and what we would like to show with the scoring. I'm specifically talking about special teams and offensive line. Now, it is unusual to have these 'players' in a league, and the scoring system is ok, but I think it could better reflect the skill of the teams in question.

Special Teams:

What I am finding with special teams, is that the excellence of the special teams is being overshadowed by the APPEARANCE of the special teams. Basically, a bad defense = good special teams under this format, because they get alot of kickoffs, and the majority of points are from kickoff yards. I think a better approach would be to concentrate more on the average yards per return. So, we could use the same scoring format for yards, but subtract/add returns as a modifier to getting yards merely from just being really bad at stopping the other team from scoring.

Here are two examples. This is from the Pittsburgh - Cincinatti game. Bad defense vs. good special teams.

Cinc: 7-126, 1 i20. Pitt: 2-97, 1 TD
Under the current system this nets 8 points. But the Bungles recieved 6 kickoffs while sending off only 1, which was returned 99 yards for a TD.

Conversely, the Steelers also net 8 points from this game, even though they got only 2 chances to return kicks. Without the touchdown, it would be only 2.

Under the scoring system I propose, the number of returns would be subtracted from return yards, and added to yards allowed. This puts the scores much more in line with the actual performance of the special teams themselves, and not so much on the offense or defense giving them opportunities.

Bengals would score 3 points. (24, -7, 2, -12, 2, -6)
Steelers would score 13 points. (18, 6, -2, -16, 7)

Offensive Line:

Similarly, I think that O-line points should be scored more on yards per run than just running yards. Though I do not think the scoring is as 'broken' here as it is in special teams. The system I propose uses 3 yards per run as the zero line:

(yards gained/3) - runs, - sacks. (take out TD's)

Big time running teams are going to get alot of points in this system, and bring them more in line with the top scorers of other positions.
Using the same game as an example, let's look at the Bungles vs. the Steelers running games:

Bungles: 24-78, 5 sacks (1 TD)
Steelers: 35-211, 2 sacks (3 TD)

under the current system:
Bungles: 8, -5, 1 = 4
Steelers: 16, -2, 3 = 17

Under proposed system:
Bungles: 78/3, -24, -5 = -3
Steelers: 211/3, -35, -2 = 33

I havent tested this for season's worth of games, but I want to know what ya'll think of these scoring systems, and perhaps implement them for next year.

I like it Nerf. It sounds like it might depend on the software. Did you also consider factoring in total # of punt ret or avg. punt return yds? I am thinking your example with a bad def and getting a lot of kickoff ret yds. What about a bad off that has a lot of punts. I think of B'more a couple of years ago. They didn't have a stellar off, but one with their def. and field position. This is just a thought.

Yes Art I thought about it, but in reality punt returns are a very small part of return yards. More often than not there isnt a return at all, and then if there is its generally for no more than 10 yards. So that factor is relatively insignificant compared to kickoff returns.

2002 HARD CORE KEEPER LEAGUE POSITION AWARDS

*Presented by Dr. Pepper*

QUARTERBACK

The award goes to: Del Boca Vista Puppet Masters! (301)
Having the NFL MVP as your quarterback certainly can't hurt your chances at this award. Gannon seems to get better with age, and turned out to be a great pick!

runner-up: Junkyard Dogs (286). Led for 11 games by the game's most dynamic player, Donovan McNabb, and then taken down the stretch by a good performance from Mark Brunell.

goat: Ike44 (91). Anyone who drafted Kurt Warner this year certainly didnt win much. (I know cuz I drafted him in another league and went 4-9-1)

RUNNING BACK

The award goes to: beebop! (700)
beebop ran away with this award, outdistancing second place by 97 points. Priest Holmes, Marshall Faulk, and Tiki Barber were the main contributor to beebop's offense this year.

runner-up: Long Beach Lightning (603). Sported the NFL's rushing leader (Williams) and offensive rookie of the year (Portis). Hard to beat that combo!

goat: Commish (273). It didn't help to miss three games, but his combo of an old Emmitt Smith and a non-scoring Michael Bennett didnt help either!

WIDE RECEIVER

The award goes to: Birds of Prey! (771)
Led by Terrell Owens, AP10's wide receiving corps did an outstanding job this year. Amani Toomer and Travis Taylor really stepped up and added significant points.

runner-up: Furious Klingon Midget Horde (728). Doug got good performances out of a cycle of 5 WR's, led by Randy Moss and Keyshawn Johnson.

goat: Ike44 (398). Torry Holt suffered from not having Kurt Warner for the season, and the rest of the WR's just didnt measure up.

TIGHT END

The award goes to: Birds of Prey! (230)
Who can explain the decline of Tony Gonzalez over the last two years? Still the highest scoring tight end, but his yards keep dropping and dropping. Certainly not the 2nd round pick performance AP10 was hoping for.

runner-up: Italian Eagles (222). Jeremy Shockey burst onto the scene this year, having more recpetions and more yards than Tony G. The difference was touchdowns. Should have won offensive rookie of the year, because he is indeed the most offensive rookie! ;)

goat: Sandwhich Town Statics (90). There's not 12 good scoring TE's in the NFL so someone had to get the clunker. Sorry Mike.

OFFENSIVE LINE

The award goes to: Furious Midget Klingon Horde! (218)
Considering the top rushing teams this year were a bit of surprise, and that probably the best OL (Kansas City) didnt play two games, the 49ers OL wins the top spot. The race was close, as the top eight OL's finished within 24 points of eachother.

runner-up: Del Boca Vista Puppet Masters (208). The Falcons and Broncos were 4th and 5th in rushing yards, repsectively. Not bad!

goat: Long Beach Lightning (146). He tied with Commish, but Commish didnt play in three games.

KICKER

The award goes to: Furious Midget Klingon Horde! (222)
Led by John Carney, Doug takes the spot! Another close race as the top six kickers were within 21 points of eachother.

runner-up: Tie: Puppet Masters and Italian Eagles (218). You know there's just not much to say about kickers, so there you go.

goat: Ike44 (125). Ike once again gets burned by the Rams.

SPECIAL TEAMS

The award goes to: Italian Eagles! (336)
Certainly one of the more dominate performances of the season. Splitting between the NY Jets and SD Chargers, Lazio managed to have only two negative scores, and 7 scores over 30 in a position in which 5 teams couldnt manage to break 90 points. wow!

runner-up: Birds of Prey (272). That Saints Defense. Gotta love em.

goat: beebop (74). Lots of goats in this position, but this is one of the more woeful performances of the year. It's not easy to figure out those special teams, is it?

DEFENSIVE LINE

The award goes to: Del Boca Vista Puppet Masters! (528)
Led by Michael Rucker and Hugh Douglas, this unit put up some impressive numbers! His top 3 DL's came in 3rd, 9th and 19th this season.

runner-up: Art of Monk (524). Very close race for DL. Art's unit was led by Andre Carter and Laroi Glover, with significant help from the defensive rookie of the year, Julius Peppers. His top 3 finished 5th, 14th, and 40th.

goat: Nerfherders (337). Vonnie Holiday gets hurt for most of the season, and the rest of the DL draft picks are no longer with the team by midseason. They performed well through the second half of the season, but it was a poor DL performance overall. His top 3 finished 16th, 18th and 49th, but he had them for only half the season.

LINEBACKER

The award goes to: Birds of Prey! (904)
The best unit in the league this year was AP10's linebacking corps. They scored 106 more points than second place, and averaged 301 points per player when only one linebacker scored over 300 points this season! (Urlacher) His top 3 linebackers placed 1st, 6th, and 9th this season.

runner-up: Nerfherders (798). Another good linebacking performance. Adding Eric Barton to the already solid Thomas and Edwards bolstered the defense even more. His linebackers placed 3rd, 4th, and 11th this season.

goat: wiggs (563). Tied for the last spot with Ike, but played one more game. Brooking was good but Armstead and Boulware played below expectations. His top 3 linebackers placed 13th, 33rd, and 43rd.

DEFENSIVE BACKS

The award goes to: Furious Midget Klingon Horde! (669)
Great unit comprised of relatively unheralded players, led by Sammy Knight, Tod Lyght and Darren Sharper. His top 3 DB's placed 2nd, 6th, and 47th.

runner-up: Nerfherders (636). A position where on-field performance doesnt translate well to fantasy points, Nerfs had 4 pro-bowlers in his DB unit, but they finished 9th, 36th, 50th, and 63rd in scoring. Brian Dawkins led this unit, coming into his own as perhaps the best Free Safety in football.

goat: Commish (437). Probably wouldnt have been last if he had played every game. His unit was hurt by injuries, and played below expectations.

TEAM CAPSULES - A brief overview of each team in 2002.

EAST DIVISION

Combined Record - 36-28 (.562)
Points - 14393 (2nd)
Games Missed - 3

BIRDS OF PREY (15-1)

Points: 4234 (1)
Offense: 1911 (2)
Defense: 1876 (1)
Special Teams: 447 (3)

Best Player, offense: Terrel Owens, WR. His position racked up 370 points this season and was the catalyst for AP10's offense.

Best Player, defense: Brian Urlacher. The heart of AP10's defense, Urlacher outscored all defensive players this year with 334 points.

Most dissapointing player: Was there a dissapointing player for AP10? Despite leading all TE's this year, Tony Gonzalez did not have the impact a 2nd rounder should. Courtney Brown was hurt and played below expectations this year.

Best Free Agent pickup: Not much needed for this team. Travis Taylor was added late in the season and contributed down the stretch.

DEL BOCA VISTA PUPPET MASTERS (9-7)

Points: 3894 (3)
Offense: 1819 (3)
Defense: 1686 (7)
Special Teams: 389 (5)

Best Player, Offense: Rich Gannon. How could the NFL MVP not be?

Best Player, Defense: Michael Rucker. Finished 3rd among DL's this season.

Most dissapointing player: All his high draft picks played well. I cant find anyone!

Best Free Agent pickup: Donald Driver. Came out of nowhere to lead the Packers' new receiving corps.

JUNKYARD DOGS (7-9)

Points: 3460 (10)
Offense: 1551 (8)
Defense: 1566 (9)
Special Teams: 343 (6)
Games Missed: 1

Best Player, Offense: Ladanian Tomlinson. The NFL's second leading rusher.

Best Player, Defense: Keith Brooking. A fiery middle linebacker who goes after the ball. Just the kind of guy that can get consistent points week to week.

Most dissapointing player: Freddie Jones. Not much to talk about for a good TE finding himself the only opening day starter left standing in the Cardinals' receiving corps.

Best Free Agent Pickup: Not much to speak of, but Jesse Armstead put in some good games after coming into the lineup.

IKE44 (5-11)

Points: 2805 (12)
Offense: 1120 (12)
Defense: 1472 (10)
Special Teams: 213 (12)
Games Missed: 2

Best Player, offense: Kansas City, OL. In a dismal offense that ranked bottom or next to last in every other position, KC was probably the best OL in the game. But you have problems when your best player is the OL.

Best Player, defense: Mike Brown, DB. A nice performance from the Bears DB this season.

Most dissapointing player: Kurt Warner. The biggest bust of the 2002 fantasy season. Garunteed to bring losing records to anyone who drafted him. (I drafted him in another league and started off 0-4. After getting rid of him I went 4-5-1 the rest of the way.)

Best Free Agent pickup: He had two pickups all season. Patrick Ramsey showed some spark down the stretch and was the best QB Ike had at any point in the season. That's not saying much.

INTERNATIONAL DIVISION

Combined Record - 26-38 (.406)
Points - 13715 (3RD)
Games Missed - 4

ITALIAN EAGLES (9-7)

Points: 3613 (8)
Offense: 1429 (10)
Defense: 1629 (8)
Special Teams: 555 (1)
Games Missed: 1

Best player, offense: Jeremy Shockey. Led all TE's in receptions and yards in 2002, and was 2nd in fantasy points among TE's. Should only get better.

Best player, defense: Simeon Rice. Second among all DL's this season. A very nice pickup.

Most disappointing player: Stephen Davis. For one of the NFL's top rushers, Davis had an awful, injury plagued season. It will be tough to make him a keeper next season.

Best free agent pickup: Moe Williams. There's not much to talk about here, but Moe had a pretty decent season, especially near the goal line.

BEEBOP (7-9)

Points: 3699 (7)
Offense: 1977 (1)
Defense: 1430 (11)
Special Teams: 292 (8)

Best player, offense: Priest Holmes. The best player of the 2002 season and Offensive Player of the Year. Easily outscored the field despite missing the final 2 games.

Best player, defense: Rod Woodson. The old man showed he still has the skills to play DB, earning a Pro Bowl spot at a historic third position this season. (He had been there at CB and KR, now goes in at Safety)

Most disappointing player: Marshall Faulk. Injuries plagued the first overall pick in the draft this season, and eventually he was traded. He should rebound, however.

Best free agent pickup: Rod Woodson. See above.

SANDWHICH TOWN STATICS (6-10)

Points: 3492 (9)
Offense: 1444 (9)
Defense: 1769 (5)
Special Teams: 279 (9)

Best player, offense: Aaron Brooks. Despite being a hot/cold type QB, he put up some fine numbers this year. He faded down the stretch, as did the rest of his team.

Best player, defense: Ronde Barber. A tough choice. Strahan was 4th in DL but had fewer points. Barber is one of the best cover corners in the NFL and is part of the NFL's best defense.

Most disappointing player: Ray Lewis. A shoulder injury ended his season early, despite putting up 126 points in 5 games. He was on pace to blow away all defensive players in points this season.

Best free agent pickup: Julian Peterson. Finished strong down the stretch with some good games, and finished 29th among LB's.

SILENT DEVILS/COMMISH (4-12)

Points: 2911 (11)
Offense: 1299 (11)
Defense: 1357 (12)
Special Teams: 255 (10)
Games Missed: 3

Best player, offense: Eric Moulds. Moulds flourished with Drew Bledsoe at the helm, finishing in the top 10 in both receptions and receiving yards.

Best player, defense: London Fletcher. Finished 8th among LB's this season with 281 points. Was the play maker on an otherwise lackluster defense.

Most disappointing player: Silent Devils. ‘nuff said

Best free agent pickup: Vikings OL. Amazingly the Vikings finished with the top scoring OL this year, despite allowing 49 sacks.

WEST DIVISION

Combined Record – 33-31 (.515)
Points - 15389 (1st)
Games Missed – 0

FURIOUS MIDGET KLINGON HORDE (10-6)

Points: 4064 (2)
Offense: 1730 (4)
Defense: 1874 (2)
Special Teams: 460 (2)

Best player, offense: Randy Moss. Despite the Vikings’ troubles this season, Moss had another great year at WR. He was 3rd in receptions and 2nd in yards.

Best player, defense: Jason Taylor. Arguably the best defensive player in 2002, he dominated the DL position, scoring nearly 40 more points this season than 2nd place Rice. His 276 points this season place him 13th among all defenders, and the 12 ahead of him are all linebackers.

Most disappointing player: The high draft picks all played well this year. As the second RB selected, Thomas Jones had a bad year and was eventually replaced by Marcel Shipp.

Best free agent pickup: Keith Bulluck. 12th among all LB’s this season, Bulluck came onto the scene this year for the Titans. FMKH had a TON of pickups this season, so it is difficult to choose just one. Others of note are Aaron Glenn and Tai Streets.

NERFHERDERS (8-8)

Points: 3805 (4)
Offense: 1631 (7)
Defense: 1771 (4)
Special Teams: 403 (4)

Best player, offense: Jeff Garcia. The 3rd player chosen in the draft had a good, if not brilliant season. He had the 5th best points among QB’s this season.

Best player, defense: Donnie Edwards. The unheralded and under-appreciated outside linebacker had an amazing season this year, solidly sitting in 3rd place among all linebackers. His 5 INT’s tied for most at the position.

Most disappointing player: David Boston. Perhaps the second biggest bust of 2002. After a 1500 yard season, he couldn’t put anything together in 2002, and then got injured. Maybe he will rebound, but is it worth the risk to keep him?

Best free agent pickup. Eric Barton. Perhaps the best pickup of the year, Barton finished 4th among all defensive players with 289 points. (Even more than Derrick Brooks).

ART OF MONK (8-8)

Points: 3789 (5)
Offense: 1722 (5)
Defense: 1824 (3)
Special Teams: 239 (11)

Best player, offense: Deuce McCallister. The Saints bet on Deuce, and they were not disappointed as he finished 5th in rushing in 2002.

Best player, defense: Mike Maslowski. Lots of great defensive players to choose from in this category. Maslowski emerged this season as a Zach Thomas type of player, making plays on run and pass, and finished 7th among linebackers. Honorable mention to Adam Archuleta, who led all DB’s in tackles.

Most disappointing player: Kordell Stewart. After leading the Steelers to the AFC Championship game in 2001, Kordell started 2002 poorly and lost his job to Tommy Maddox. Art never fully recovered from this at the QB spot, though he found decent fill-ins.

Best free agent pickup: Mike Maslowski. Art did a good job in free-agency, and finding QB’s to replace both of his drafted QB’s was outstanding. So honorable mention to Mark Bulger and Tommy Maddox.

LONG BEACH LIGHTNING (7-9)

Points: 3731 (6)
Offense: 1686 (6)
Defense: 1749 (6)
Special Teams: 296 (7)

Best player, offense: Marvin Harrison. Marvelous Marvin had the best year any WR could possibly have, shattering the reception record with 143. He had 30 more receptions and nearly 400 more yards than the next best player, and finished 3rd in TD’s.

Best player, defense: Roy Williams. The rookie from Oklahoma led all DB’s in points with 271. Led his team in points as well. He should be good for years to come.

Most disappointing player: There’s no glaringly poor picks I can see. His WR’s after Harrison were awful, so the injury to Kevin Dyson hurt quite a bit, as did the mediocrity of Glenn and Ismael.

Best free agent pickup: Ian Gold. Not a lot of good picks here. Most were dumped before the season ended. Gold had a good year though, finishing 20th among linebackers.

Addendum to Italian Eagles: I forgot to mention Jamie Sharper as the best defensive player for Lazio’s team. Sharper was 2nd among all defensive players this season!

Player stats? No. I copied the numbers from the threads directly and kinda threw them into slots, but didnt keep track of the names or anything.

I did however make a spreadsheet for defense from the NFL.com sortable stats. Offense was impossible to do that way for several reasons. It took me more than an hour just to get reliable numbers for the top 12 or so QB's.

Hey guys, been working crazy hours at a new job and tied up with moving and all that... but just a quick note to say thanks for the work posting the season recaps!!! Those were great to read.

I just have one name to add for coming in 2nd place in wide receiver category... Hines Ward. He's one of my favorite players, had an AWESOME year, and it was painful to trade him (had to give up both him AND Barber for a shot at Faulk who I hope to high heaven returns to form next year).

For coming in 2nd overall, I also feel I owe some props to my QBs Brad Johnson and Mike Vick who were both drafted very late relative to their value/production. I can only keep one of 'em, so if you're looking to trade for a QB let me know.

By the way, my new job is with a video game development company, right now we have a contract with Sega to develop a game for them.... so for those of you with an XBox or PS2, help preserve my job security by purchasing Sega's "World Series 2K3" game this spring!!! (shameless plug, but it's really a sweet game... especially if you have an XBox and HDTV... oh my, the resolution on that setup is incredible!) We've been working nights and weekends to try and get all the bugs worked out and have it on store shelves by opening day (if not sooner).

AP10, Im not sure I understand. There is only one week being added (week 18) and the main problem, as I see it, is that the stats themselves are incorrect. Warner's the #1 QB, Faulk's the #1 RB, and all DLs, LBs, DBs, OLs, and STs have 0 points. Taking a quick look at the rankings of the positions that do have stats, it seems like the stats may be from some late week of last season.

Art, as I said before, it isnt that Im worried about finding another owner, Id just like to get one because I may want to make trades with that team.

hey all, sorry been so quiet. still getting over all my collapses in leagues.

just a couple of suggestions I'd have for next year

-trade notification. I didn't even know that some trades had happened. my own fault for not checking the transaction pages I know but was wondering about them being emailed out like the waiver claims. my big concern here is just the accountability question if someone has concerns about a trade and wants to veto/protest it.
-tight ends-did the point for every 5 yards seem a bit excessive? for the lower level tight ends they brought them up to par but for the studs they just seemed to make them bigger then the superstars at other positions.

anyways thanks for the recaps. really fun stuff. I'd question aaron brooks as my best offensive player. he was a bit uneven for me. I'd go with travis henry who totally exceeded what I expected.

here's something for everyone. what was your stupidest move?

mine easily was drafting ray lewis first round and by passing rickey williams. all along I had planned on reversing the order but then I thought I wanted to be "cool" and grab a defensive guy first round. instead of williams I got eddie george-not bad but not keeper material and williams did have a better year, and I could of still gotten lewis I'm sure 2nd round. oh well

any room in the baseball league?

be talking to you all
