Before we can get going on this, can you commish's post on a website or something the frozen rosters each team has now? So we know who we can ask for from other teams, etc?

I can create a spreadsheet and post it here, but if you got to the CBS site (which will be up all offseason BTW), you can click on "Teams" / "Roster Grid" in the top tool bar to see who is where. Team DL has been deleted from existance!

In fact, here is the spreadsheet [EXCEL]

I'm pretty sure all trades will have to be offered manually via e-mail as the site sets a deadline (week 12). I can only extend it to week 17, which of course we are past. If any owners strike a deal, you will have to e-mail me @ rockafellerskank007@yahoo.com for approval in the offseason. I can still make manual roster changes.

I thought we only held so many players for 2003?

This spreadsheet shows the full teams of everyone, I was more curious on the actually players we all have to trade...

If you mean "keepers" ...yes, we keep 9 players. I haven't decided when to make that deadline yet [probaly will be summer of 2003], so right now ALL players are eligible for trades.

We may want to make it a bit later as some of the players may go to different teams and be starters there making them more valuable. But when we make a draft date, we also need to have the keeper list made so we know who is available. You also may trade after the keepers have been established, but you can only keep 9 so there is a good chance that a throw-away for you may be a keeper for another, hence it's still good to trade with the entire team.

*slaps his head*

I always feel like im a step behind on the rules in this league.. LOL Hard to be a commish for one league, and then follow the rules in another league.

I thought we had to have our keepers turned in at the end of the season? That is why I emailed you RFS when I did...

Jimmy Smith and Marty Booker are on the trade block. I've already received an offer for Jimmy Smith that I'm currently thinking about. I'm willing to package both of them or even my 1st or 2nd round pick next year. It just depends on the deal. Send me an e-mail if you are interested in either of them(or both).

I have a 3rd receiver in Dixon available. I MIGHT be persuaded to let go of Mungro, but probably not until it gets closer to the season. Not sure about Fiedler and Redman yet, but can't let either of them go w/o another QB.

When is it we have to have our rosters in? Actually might change mine around some now... I hear Vinny might get traded, so guess he is trade material now or keeper material.

PromizeOnVacation:

You've been on a long vacation!

I haven't set a date for a "keepers due" deadline, but I'm thinking along the lines of 7/15/03 [subject to change]. I'll send out a reminder notice via e-mail to all owners 30 days in advance and 15 days in advance. Since keepers are an important part of the game, I think we need to give everyone a chance to see what offseason developments take place, while not pushing too close to training camp.

Not sure why, but I cannot get the proposing of trades to work. It is set to work with add/drops disabled, but for some reason it is failing. Anyhow, you will have to contact owners manually for trade offers and both will have to contact rfs or myself for approval.

Ref,

Although I paid for the website, many of the features are "inactive" I believe this is because they are going to change the format/features like the baseball site. Give it an overhaul-- although, I wish they would just leave well enough alone.

They usually send me an e-mail when the site becomes "live" but I'll bet that will not be until July.

You know, I like the football site a lot better than baseball as far as commish tools and functions. I think I'm going to quit making changes for now until we make some decisions on things.

The complaint I heard the most was "it may be in the rules, but they are so long I didn't want to go through all that." Or, "I looked but couldn't find it." My goal is to clean it up while leaving all the rules and procedures alone. If we can make it easier to find things, perhaps that will help solve some of the problems later.

The 2003 site is up and functional. You may now offer trades. Also there is a new feture called "On the block" where you can enter players that you are offering to trade and people can look at everyone's team to see who's on the block.

It's a lot like baseball. Got to see what else is new, but thus far it's better than our baseball site--not sure if it's better than last year's football site though. Time will tell.

This is definitely a rebuilding year. I guess I get the #2 pick (yipee), is the draft serpentine?

and are the FAs all updated on the site including rookies?

if you go to the site, it should have his email on there. Also you can send a private bb msg to him and if he hasn't turned off the option to get automatic emails, he will get it as well.

Also, adds/drops have been locked on the site for obvious reasons. We will be dropping your non-keepers as we get them (after we announce rules changes and start a keeper deadline post).

Then, obviously, the players eligible to be picked up will be on there. Remember, there are going to be 96 more players added to that list.

With 120 total players to draft, you can see that some of the players released as non-keepers won't be selected. If they all were re-selected, only 24 players currently shown as FA would be picked.

What this means in my mind is that just because a team might not keep this player doesn't mean he might not be worthy of a trade if you can know that you are going to keep him.

No snake. PG you will pick 2nd I beleive in every round.

I've gotten a few offers for TJ Duckett, but I do not plan to move him unless I can get an upgrade at RB. Being from Atlanta, I have followed the Falcons offseaon and they plan to use Dunn and Duckett together more this year. He should have a good opportunity to rack up the yards and get those goal line scoring chances. If I do trade him, I'd look to package a WR like Chrebet with Duckett to get an upgrade at RB. Also, I currently have three defenses, and am looking to move the Lions for a draft pick.

Ref, I looked around at several teams, and yours seemed to be the best fit. I could see only 8 definite keepers on your team, so a 2 for 1 can work for you. The trade gives you insurance at the one position plus an adequate replacement at the other.

skineej, in fact, I have 10 definite keepers, that's why I haven't posted mine. I gotta somehow eliminate one of them. The more I look at it, the more your offers scares me because,
1. I would have 11 keepers then instead of 9
2. I'm trading a stud guaranteed starter for a guy who will split time and a backup QB

Though I appreciate the offer, I don't think it will fit within my team and the league guidelines given 9 keepers. Might appraoch you after the draft though.

OK, I have two keepers for the last spot. I'd like to trade two keepers (and one non-keeper that may even be a keeper on some teams) for one keeper that can help. Otherwise, I'll just have to see if he's still available so I can pick him back up when my turn comes in the draft.

I think trading will really pick up after the draft. I figured some teams that needed depth might trade that way, but I'm not getting anything either and I have a lot of depth to trade. After the draft, people will have a much better idea of what they need--of course they might not get the same type of deal then, but who knows.

I have a question about the draft that I'm not sure has been answered.

If you have multiple picks in one round will that mean that you do not pick in the later rounds or will you be able to pick an extra player(s) in the draft and pare down your roster to meet league requirements prior to the season.

Personally, I would hope that everyone makes their pick in each round AS WELL as any multiple picks that they have obtained in other rounds. Any discussion on how this will work?

We've went over this:

Your max players will be 14. You have 5 rounds of picks to get there. There really is no minimum. If you don't have any picks and you keep 9 players, then you will need to add up to 5 players via waivers once we turn that process on. You don't get to pick at the end of the draft simply because you traded all your picks away. Some have suggested they were keeping less than 9 players as they have more than 5 picks coming to them in the draft. That is fine or they can forfeit their last round pick, etc. Otherwise I can trade all the guys I was dropping for draft picks since they might not be worth a 5th round pick then I could stockpile players as I hear about new players after the draft is over.

Btw, I have some guys that I don't want to drop, but I am forced to via 9 player cap. I can offer someone a couple very good players (ordinarily keepers) for a draft pick.

I would be willing to move pick(s) for quality players.

I would assume that waiver order priority is independent of number of draft picks, and that it initially is reverse order of the draft?

Also would add that if someone traded away a draft pick and has to add a player after the draft to fill out their roster, it's up to them to decide if they want to use a WW claim or wait for FA status. After the draft all players will enter WW status so it's not a free-for-all.

"Otherwise I can trade all the guys I was dropping for draft picks since they might not be worth a 5th round pick then I could stockpile players as I hear about new players after the draft is over."

That is, if you can find a sucker to trade with.

CP, from what I'm receiving and what I hear other's are receiving, there are a lot of offers going around that involve draft picks. 3 of those trades have gone through in the last week.

this trading frenzy is pretty fun. Am talking to 5 different owners and I just asked two others about something totally different. To me, this is as much fun as the actual games sometimes.

Where is all the trade discussion. I pop on here and on the cbs league board and I see nothing.

Is there a way discuss an open trade instead of just declining it.

Im just a rookie lost in the forest, sigh.....

penngray, most of it has been going on via email. Also the block thing CBS has added this year has helped I think. There are 9 teams yet to announce their keepers. We have a thread dedicated to that as well. Remember Keepers must be delcared by tomorrow at Noon ET.

Because of the many requests, I have posted everyone's email address on the league message board. They will never be posted on these boards. CBS is supposed to have the emails linked from the team names, but there are many things not activated as of yet.

Another trade to announce:
GB has traded Wayne Chrebet to Atlanta for their 3rd round pick.

I am still looking for an upgrade at QB and RB if anyone is interested. I have extra draft picks available. Drop me a line.

Dan accidently put this in the keepers thread:

Trade between Buffalo Bills and NY Giants

Lamar Gordon - RB and 2nd Round draft pick for Indy - D, and NY Giants and Buffalo Bills swap 4th round picks.

It has been approved. The only thing I don't quite understand is that he turns around and drops him. I know it's hindsight, but since twarpy had already announced keepers, why didn't twarpy just keep him and Dan could have perhaps gotten a 3rd instead of swapping 4ths. Oh well. rfs and I are extremely pleased at all of the pre-draft activity. This is more than we even hoped for. We want everyone to be active. Don't have to trade, but simply keeping up with the league and your team will make it tougher on everyone and the league more competitive.

We have a little more than an hour until keepers are required to be submitted. We have 5 left to post, but as I understand it, Doug has left a list with rfs should he not make it back by the deadline. So there are still 4 teams that we've heard nothing about.

Is it me, or does Dan (probably the youngest of us) have the oldest team?

This will answer 99% of your questions: LEAGUE RULES

The draft order is not up-to-date but since it will be on the boards and not on the site--it really doesn't matter. We've posted that info here anyhow already.

Oh yeah, add/drops will not have to be approved by the commish once we have completed the draft and waivers have been turned on.

Go to options/personal to change your emails or any other info. When you update this, it should automatically go into the league setup list that will email you when someone sends an email to the league (or posts a msg if you have alerts turned on). It will also come up under your name/profile (when CBS turns it on) so people can auto-email you when talking about trades, etc.
