There's an extra space in the above link that I'm unable to remove (shows up as "%20" in the URL string)... I think it's 'cus I'm on a Mac... I always have trouble posting links (I've tried to repair it, we'll see - ds).

Well, that figures. Allen practices with the first team since training camp opens and looks to be the starter (even though Mack was brought in in the offseason to carry the load), then decides his heart is not in it? And now he's an aspiring rap artist to boot?? What a joke. If I lived in Texas I might have to pay him a visit and convince him otherwise. I mean, at least let me trade the bum first. I was kiddingly talking about trading him earlier tonight with another manager, but if I had worked out a deal I bet someone would be pissed. Well, he's definitely available now!

I wish I had the time to make up a mock retirement and/or injury article for some combination Betts/Ferguson/Dawson/White (skinneej's other draftees) and upload it to my website with another link posted like the one above... hoping that the different URL wouldn't be noticed right away...

*sigh*... it's a sad day when you get too busy for pranks. I suddenly feel old.

Since we are not yet to even the midway point of the draft, I have consulted with a couple of the league members and with the delay at this pick am going to make an executive decision.

AFTER the next pick or skipped pick (Turley currently on the clock), there will begin a 6 hour time limit with the caveat that time will be suspended between the hours of 12 am (midnight) and 9 am ET. During that time picks can still be made as normal but a person cannot be skipped during that time. If a pick is made at 12:01 am it will be treated as picked at 9:00 am and the new deadline will be 3:00 pm. If a pick was set to expire at 12:01 am, it will now expire at 9:01 am. Pretty easy I think. With the latter scenario a pick can still go 15 hrs before being skipped, but that's still better than 24 hrs and for most of the group, that will not be a factor.

At this stage in the draft, one spot is really unlikely to make a whole lot of difference, though it may encourage owners to check in more often and speed up the draft even more.

OK, Pete so I will swap 3rd round picks with you (3.15 for 3.23) and I will get your 4th round pick (4.23). In order to complete this trade, I need rfs or ref to approve me dropping James Allen. I cannot drop him as I need commish approval. I'll wait for approval before we go ahead with this.

I haven't responded because I want to speak with rfs first. It is my opinion that we can NOT drop a player whatsoever during the draft. It would in effect give you an extra selection. I cannot approve this as the agreement now states, but let me shoot it by rfs just to make sure him and I are on the same page.

I don't think this will work. You can't drop players once the draft starts starts. You can still do it, but James Allen stays on yor roster until the draft is over at which time you can cut him. If you go through with this deal, you will venetually end up witha "full roster" and forfeit your last draft pick as it would out you over limit. You can trade your 3rd and llen for Peter N's 3rd & 4th is you wish.

Perhaps Ref can chime in and see if he agrees or perhaps I am misunderstanding?

Guys, I don't agree with this ruling. There is nothing in the rules that states you cannot drop a player in the draft and make an "extra" selection. Ref, you say, " It is my opinion that we can NOT drop a player whatsoever during the draft. It would in effect give you an extra selection." Where does it say in the rules that I cannot make an "extra" selection? I could theoretically have traded all my players and made 14 picks in this draft. I could also make a selection, then trade that player away for another pick later in the draft. That's no different than trading picks, though. The only rule is that you cannot have more than 14 players on your team at any given time.

I cannot approve this as the agreement now states... Again, it does not state anything about dropping a player in the draft. Also, Pete is not going to trade for Allen because then he'd forfeit his 5th round pick. I could however trade Allen to a team that only has 4 picks in this draft and will not have a full team after the draft is over (like Baltimore). He would dump him anyway after the draft and I could make the trade with Pete. That seems silly to do, but after losing my 2nd round pick, I'm looking for a creative way to make my team as competitive as possible within the rules. Isn't that part of what this league is about?

skinneej:

I don't think there is a "rule" about it because it never occured to Ref and I that someone would draft a player and cut him. hat doesn't mean that we don't have to decide abou 'intent' now that the issus is surfaced. There is no rule about many hings, but that dosnt mean that in the absence of a rule, it is legal. There are no add/drops during this period at all. There are only trades. If you can trade James Allen you may do so. It has clearly been stated that the supplemental draft is 5 rounds (not more/not less), so you cannoy trade all 14 of your players and draft 14 rounds. We talked about the fact that anyone that ends up short a player doesn't get a "6th round pick" but must wait until the FA/WW period to fill out his roster. The closest I can find is post 17. Feel free to review all the other threads and if Ref or I posted anything contrary, please do bring it up. Otherwise, we agree that there are no add/drops during the draft. only draft picks and trades. Another example s that the draft order from day 1 denotes certain plays have"no pick" in the 5th round because they obtain their full comliment of players before round 5 an were not entitle to obtain 15+ and cut them later.

Sorry.

RFS, I agree with the point about drafting more than 14 players or ending up with less than 14, besides all that was settled before the draft. If you say No add/drops during the draft then I guess that is your right to make up rules when there is an absence of one. I could suggest a league vote on the matter, but with prize money on the line I'd bet that not many would want to agree to it and thus help my team out. ;)

If Baltimore agreed, I could trade Allen to him for absolutely nothing. Hey, I've basically done it twice in this draft so that shouldn't be a problem. I still contend that I could have traded every single player on my team before the draft, declared no keepers and ended up with 14 draft picks from my subsequent trades. There are only 5 rounds, but I could theoretically draft and trade all day making as many picks as doesn't violate the max roster rule.

Well, I could be a butt and wait until 9 am to draft (especially since I have an early 7am meeting tomorrow and need to get to bed) but I'll pick in a few minutes. Seems as if I'm not going to win the argument anyway.

skineej, as I see it, you drafted allen and now you want to drop him. What if Patten has a year ending injury and now I want another pick so I drop him and trade for another pick. Should that be legal? In essence, I am affording myself the opportunity to make up for a hindsight bad pick. Like rfs, said, you can trade him or how many players you want, but you can not drop, you can not add if you don't hit 14 and you may not go over 14 during the draft.

Hope this makes sense and seems fair to all, but this was discussed before the draft in that post that rfs referenced. Just not as concise perhaps.

If you'd like to exercise your right to call for a league vote, you may certainly do so, but it could hurt you in that you need 14 of the 20 remaining managers (rfs, myself, you and Peter N will not be voting) and the draft clock would not stop and owners have up to 48 hrs per rule to vote or until enough votes are cast one way or the other to have a decision. Let me know what you'd like to do and I will set up the vote.

This is a rather unusual situation, and FWIW personally I agree with RFS and Ref's interpretation of the rules. The same would hold true if a player you drafted went down with a season-ending injury last weekend... he's still on your roster until the draft completes. Otherwise, hypothetically, a player could be drafted... dropped (for whatever reason), and then drafted a second time by some other team later on in the draft. Unlikely, but possible... and that doesn't seem right or in the spirit of the rules IMHO.

But I also think that given the extenuating circumstances that if some team that has an "extra" space on their roster due to having less draft picks than they would need to create a full squad (such as Baltimore... I don't know if there are others in this position as well)... then it would be cool if they would help out skinneej in this situation as a goodwill gesture (unless of course you were still thinking of trading for picks yourself). Unfortunately, I am not in a position to do so, as I need my 2 remaining picks in order to fill out my squad.

Well, post 38 is moot now, but I'll leave it to remind the league members that in this game we do ahve an arbitration process due to the nature of this game.

FWIW, that would have been my pick had he fallen to me, skineej :(. Maybe I won't be selecting a TE next afterall. Back to the drawing board.

Maybe Hollings has only played 4 college games but he's electric by all accounts and I just don't see Mack being a roadblock. Any coach would move Mack to fullback blocking for Hollings' as soon as Hollings' health permits I am wagering.

LOL deep!

Some of you have spent a great deal more time researching than I've been able to and for that my job repeating is going to be even tougher. Just look at the top teams from last year--even the playoff teams where you could draw a name out of the hat for the game's champion. Add to that the great drafts and there may be 18 teams that have a real chance to win it from the get-go.

So much for that sleeper kicker in Seattle.....I guess I'll have to pick on someone else's backup RB again. muuuhhhaaaaaaaa

On the subject of this league being deep, CP and were chatting last night and we thought it would be cool if we named the "Fantasy Bowl" each year after the last player taken in our fantasy draft as a tribute to how deep this league is. So, for example, last year's would have been the "Boo Williams Fantasy Bowl". It would be kinda cool for history's sake:

Fantasy Bowl Winners
2002 - Ref / Indianapolis Colts - "Boo Williams Fantasy Bowl"
2003 - Doug / Oakland Raiders - "Bon Jovi Fantasy Bowl"
2004 - ... etc.

Of course the names are subject to change... Bon Jovi would be replaced with the last pick in our draft... and my name would be replaced with... oh, no... nevermind, I got that part right. =-)

Thanks for the kudos on Teyo. You have to like him being compared to Shockey......AS long as he isn't calling people "homos" ;-)

I tried to trade up to 3.15 and go ahead and take him because I saw that a couple of people needed help at TE and got nervous. Needless to say, I am happy that he made it to me. Oubviously, he holds more value being a TE and after reading CBS' response to rfs regarding position eligibility, I think he will be changed to tight end. At this point in the draft when their really is no "safe" pick, I am trying to hit a home run.

Also, it's sort of an honor for the guy with best record last year to be able to name the following year's Fantasy Bowl via the final pick (unless he trades it away).

By the way, am I being presumptuous in my use of the "he" pronoun? Do we have any female owners in this league?

2003 Payout has 21 paid:
Playoff winner: $100
Playoff runner-up $50
Playoff 3rd place $25
Playoff 4th place $10
Regular Season Best Record $10
Playoff Team $15 each(8 teams=$120)
Total of $315 is distributed in full.

You must make the playoffs to win a prize. Baldwin, PD and penngary have decided not to participate in the 2003 OPTIONAL pool. If any of these three qualify, the prizes will be reallocated by the commissioners simillarly to how it has been done in the past.

There was $15 less this year and I've taken it off the overall best record (out of my pocket ;)).

I need to know whether it's even worth trying to cover that week, or if I should just write it off... and that depends in part on who my opponent will be and if he has any byes that week. rfs and I have had some busy things going on in our personal lives and with the draft and our other leagues going on, it's not surprising that we both forgot about payouts and schedule. It may not be done before the draft ends, but hopefully that won't make any difference. I know I hadn't even looked at the schedule except who my first week's oponent was because it was on the main page.

Now I have a comment to make about the draft. Incredibly, my 5th and 4th round picks just went off the board in sequential order. Both of these guys are suspect but have upside. I almost got Clark last round but the Colts are saying that he will likely not be much of a factor until next year. But with Manning and a 2 TE set...who knows. Rackers is constantly in fear of losing his job, but he put up decent numbers last year as my backup K and I think deep made a good pick as well. I was so sure that neither of these guys would get picked that I have absolutely NO ONE in my q at all. This has been the toughest draft I've EVER been associated with and it keeps getting harder!

As far as Action Figures goes, it has been well documented of his inactivity last year, but he has been adament that that time is in the past and he will be extremely active moving forward. Since he's made those statements, he went on to WIN the Toilet Bowl after having the worst regular season record, he has paid his league dues, he made the first pick of the draft at high noon, and in fact, this is the first time he's been skipped. Sometimes things come up in life that is more important than a game and that's why we have a time limit. I am assuming this is one of those times and that he will make his 4.01 selection shortly. RFS has even been giving him courtesy emails constantly so he must not have access right now and didn't anticipate it.

Action Figures has gotten downright snippy with me in the past even at the suggestion that a manager should have to check in more than once a day during a draft. No question he picks a good team and manages it well tho. No complaints there.

Of course I concede I am over the edge hardcore wrt fantasy sports and reasonable people might disagree with my priorities.

Thanks for the scheduling update... thought about filling one more position for week 10 with my most recent pick, but I decided to stick with what I thought was the best value/Buckhalter insurance in Westbrook. Besides, I think I'll be able to trade to cover that gap. After week 3 I probably won't really need the 49ers, and they're a good D who will be facing some really weak offenses and thus could offer a lot of teams a good upgrade and increase their fantasy score significantly... we'll see how it all plays out!

RE 110: Baldwin, actually there is question in that area, but he said he would be very active and manage his team this year. He finished last on here last year so he has no where to go but up. He are going to hold him to his word that he will be active and manage his team better this year.

Someone has to finish last, but if it's me, it shouldn't be because I'm not active as hell at least TRYING to make it better.

That aside, I think there are a handful of guys I passed on who will outscore Westbrook this year (he will see some 3rd down carries at least, like Kevin Faulk did for me last year...), but some of us take into account more than the current season. ;-)

If I remember correctly two years ago Blue Balls, Action Figures and and CCRider gave my Marshall Faulk enhanced team all it could handle for most of the season until I finally pulled away. So even tho these guys don't always seem to care as much they can be effective managers.
