0 Subject: RIFCQL #3 Draft Recap:

Taking a cue from the RIFC, these are some suggested topics:

1. What was your plan/strategy entering the draft? Were you able to execute as you had planned?

2. What were your favorite picks? Which do you wish you could do over?

3. Looking over all of the teams, which ones do you like the most (other than your own)?

4. What surprised you most about the draft?

5. If you could start over, would you do anything differently?

1 - I felt that I had a pretty sweet spot to be in a football draft. It's hard to get frozen out of runs on positions when your right in the middle, and if you didn't see one coming, shame on you! I wanted to solidify myself at RB and QB first because it is my experience that quality WR's can be found later in the draft. I executed my plan to perfection, though in hindsight, I overestimated the caliber of WR's that would be hanging around in the 6-7-8 round.

2 - My favorite value picks were W. Dunn, and each of my 3 starting defenders, particularly Barnett in round 14. Ironically, the Dunn pick being such a great value might have also been unnecessary. I saw that many of the mid-tier WR guys were left on the board and was certain at least one would make it back down to me. Well, as the next 7 picks were all WR's, I got my ass handed to me. The final blow was Fitzgerald going 1 pick before my selection. I can guarantee that Dunn outpoints all of those WR's taken after him, but unless I can get point for point value for him in a trade, I goofed. I also feel that my 6-7-8 round picks were all very unspectacular. I probably jumped half a round early at Baltimore's D (6) and Crumpler (7), and I certainly jumped on Davis (8), but as stated before, I had left myself a huge void at WR. I feel these 3 will all be solid contributors, but all could have been had if the draft was active enough to enable trading down.

3 - Baldwin and Kev have put together fantastic teams. Beyond that, I can see 10 teams vying for 6 spots.

4 - Twarpy and LilPepper not giving a damn. And you all though it was bad waiting it our, right? Try being the guy who has to pick in between them! I seriously couldn't believe that people wouldn't use Que's. Heck, I hate que's, but if you were to offer me a choice of an 8 player que, or not picking for 14 picks it's a no-brainer!

5 - Force a fast-live draft! But in regards to my team, i'm extremely happy. I hope the league becomes more active with trades, but that's because I feel I have a lot to offer, while at the same time having a lot of room to improve. In weeks 1-4 (if you read what I read), I will have 4 starting RB's on my roster.
If LilP and Twarpy didn't get thier rosters set in time(which is how it appears) for yesterdays game, after being the stars of an extremely unenviable draft, I would go from being disappointed to outright ticked off.

1. Picking where I did, I knew I wanted Daunte Culpepper, and really didn't believe he would be there when I came up in round 2. Getting skipped didn't hurt, as I still got him. Knowing I was going to get a stud QB in the first round, I was sacraficing a top tier RB for 2 2nd tier RB's, and I think I got them. If a first or 2nd round RB goes down, your done, even if you draft 3 in the first 3 rounds. I didn't want to sacrafice other positions just to load up on RB's. I wanted a top 10 player at every position, which I succeeded at.

2. Fave picks- 8th round- Keith Bulluck, whom I think will be a top 3 IDP this year. I only had Urlacher and Lewis ranked ahead of him. 15th round James Farrior- 141 tackles last year....other than that, there was no pick that I thought- wow, I nailed that pick, I can't believe I got him here. Thomas Jones was a nice pick in the 4th round I guess.

Picks that I wish I had changed- Jerry Porter at first I thought was a reach, but the more I read, the more I like having him. Denver's D was a reach. I wish I had taken Coles over Horn. I went safe rather than big.

3. I like Wazuup Guy's team..it seems solid with depth. Baldwin does have a solid team- Calico was a guy I am upset I missed out on- huge year for him. Blue Hen's team would look good if it were 1998 again.

4. Twarpy being a twit. Don't sign up for leagues and be so dumb. Really, I thought in a qualifying league, things would run smoother. Even if Twarpy wins the league, would anyone want him in their league?

5. Nothing really. I am happy with my draft, and we got it in on time.

1. Welp, I came into the draft pretty late, so my strategy was just to finish out my lineup with best players possible. Eugene's first picks weren't bad, pretty good I suppose, but probably not what I would of picked. At first, I thought we were hurting with lack of RB's, still are now that Suggs is hurt first game. But with a lucky late pick of Gordon, we should be fine.

2. Oh without a doubt, Round 14 Lamar Gordon.. Who would of thought huh?

Only real junk pick was Leonard Henry, but he was one of the RB's in Miami fighting for the job.

A real big mistake was not taking Gage!!! I can't believe I overlooked him, especially being a big Mizzou Tigers.

3. My team of course, durrr

4. Well, I know Lilpepper was busy with a move and college I think... Twarpy not sure, but it is a shame to lose a team so late in the draft.. Maybe someone could take his team over?

5. Live drafts are 10x better for sure, but you always gotta try and find a day everyone can make it.. I would suggest use Kafenatid's little program if you do a slow draft, it works really well.. Has a clock, sends emails, keeps track of who has been picked, etc. So not many mistakes.

i missed out right before the colts game and i dont have another TE besides pollard and i cant pick one up so it wont let me set my lineup without a TE, so i dont think i can set a lineup for this week....is there anyway for my waiver to go thru before 2morro or start a lineup without a TE

1. With my draft spot, I knew I had to get running backs with the first 2 picks because the superstud receivers/QBs weren't going be there. I might have considered Tory Holt, but he never made it back to me. I'm satisifed with those early picks as I get LaDainian Tomlinson(who was #1 on my list) and a consisent yardage guy in Tiki Barber. I chose to wait a long time on taking a QB, and I think it worked out well. Jeff Garcia's at a real low point in drafts this year, and I believe he will bounce back. Waiting on the QB spot allowed me to pick up some very fine receivers, so I'm pleased with how my draft turned out.

2. My favorite picks had to be Eric Moulds in round 4 and Todd Heap in round 5. I got great value with those picks, assuming Moulds stays healthy this time around. Heap is a solid TE, and I didn't feel like I made a reach for him, so that was great.

3. Baldwin's team look to be pretty solid and could be even be tougher when playoff time comes because of Boldin's return.

4. The biggest surprise of the draft had to be the fact that we actually finished it in time!

5. I think setting a limit on the maximum # of timeouts each manager could have at the beginning of the draft would have helped a great deal, but no big deal. We still got it done.

6. Go Raiders!

peeper - how am I supposed to know who you're trying to pick up at TE? you should have e-mailed me. I guess it's bad if you're completely stuck without any starters, but out of fairness to your opponent I'm not going to pick up a good TE for you. this league should be competetive, but you should be penalized for not having your roster taken care of. (how could you not know we were using rotoworld instead of yahoo? boggles the mind.)

and twarpy - there is a one in million chance that you read this, but still - you should consider finding a new hobby.

Euh... i finnaly have time to do this... after 2 weeks being played...

1- Plan/Strategy: I'll be honest and say i had no plan what so ever... except maybe trying to have a balanced team... avoid injury prone guys and if possible top IDP ... before taking backups. I'm pretty happy the way it turned out... i would like to have a better 3rd WR... and perhaps a better RB backup... i didnt really noticed how many player would have a bye week at #3... if so, i would have be more carefull to immediate help instead of prospect... I have 4 starters on their BYE (Dillon, S. Moss, M. Muhammad, D. Graham)... next year i'll be more aware of bye weeks...

2- Favorite picks: None in particular... is that a bad sign? I like S. Moss in 3rd round and D. Graham in 15th could turn out very good... I'm happy i didn't waste a TE pick with either Gonzo, Shockey, Winslow or Crumpler...
Worst pick: Brandon Lloyd inn 8th, Travis Minor... i thought he would at least be there for week 3 and be my backup... that sucked...

3- Best teams: Kev looked very strong after the draft... now he is plagued with injuries... but i still think he'll be strong... Holt's is also to be considered a favorite... not only because of his solid draft... but also because he will be very agressive on the waiver and FA market... injuries could hurt him... if not... he is top 3 for sure. Wazaap is also very balanced IMHO, right now he is my guess at #1.
Doing this after week 2 makes it different... i see all these injuries...

4- Surprises? Same with everyone... how patient we were with the guys timing out and not using queue... i sure will be really anal (even more than i actually was) about it in draft to come... And how some people (here and other RIFC'S) didnt even bother read the rules... and complain about it after... you have to be really retarded to do that.

5- Things different? I would get a reliable 3rd RB and before... and make a little research on IDP and Team DEF... Once again i repeat that it's my first Football draft ever, and the only player i really knew before making some research was Jerry Rice... As i watched only 3 or 4 games a year on TV... I did this draft cause i knew hockey would be dead this winter...

Good luck everyone!

1 - plan/strategy. I basically use projections and apply them to the scoring set-up. then whatever position has the biggest point drop-off coming up, that's what I go after. the projections are just a guide-line though. It's best to keep up on all the player news and always double-check a player before picking.

2 - favorite picks. definitely McNabb in the second round. he's the backbone of my team. nothing special about any of my other picks, except that getting clayton in the 20th has a chance to turn out well.
I don't feel great about taking faulk in the 1st round, but then again I don't really like many of the backs taken after him. you take what you can get when you've got the 11th pick.

3 - which other teams do I like?
looks like a lot of parity to me. I don't see any team that has zero question marks at this point.
I see one team that has almost zero chance of making the playoffs (twarpy) and a couple that seem destined to be middle of the pack or lower, but all-in-all most of us have a legitimate shot at this thing.
just like in fantasy baseball, hockey, etc. - you can't predict a winner based on the draft. injuries and waiver/fa acquisitions are gonna play a big role. like hubble said, I'm a waiver/fa vulture. :D

4 - biggest surprise of the draft?
I was kinda planning on grabbing quentin griffin in the 3rd or maybe 4th. the fact that we had problems with people missing their picks didn't really surprise me because we had to rush to put the league together. let that be a lesson though. start early and be selective as to who gets in the league.

5 - what would I do different?
looking back over my draft, I can't really say I'd do anything differently. I'm not totally in love with my roster but you take what you can get.
