I almost started a new thread in the Football Forum, but I guess that's not the way to do it. I hope you guys will see this thread over here. Anyway, I wanted to have a discussion area for the LOEG so here we go.

Man, some of those Week 1 scores were just amazing. 4 teams over 100 points with deepsnapper (141!) and Goatlocker (123) leading the way. I have been playing Exit42 for 5 years now and I have never seen 2 120+ scores in the same league in one week. The scoring hasn't changed in that time either, as far as I remember.

Week 2 had 2 people over 100 and 2 in the mid-90's. I guess the NFL just has a lot of high scoring players so far this year, but in my recollection, it's much more common to follow a 140 up with a 65 point stinker, so congrats to Goatlocker, who managed a 101.

I have to admit that I'm not looking forward to playing out the season in the Eastern Division where I'll have to play Goatlocker and Basta Monsta twice. It may be very difficult to repeat as division champ with those two in with me.

In general, making the Playoffs requires at least a 7-6 record, while I have seen a few 6-7 teams make it over the years. The race to 7 wins is on.

Don't forget the keeper aspect of the League, either. It's never too early to consider a guy's potential for next year when considering whether to drop or add him.

MC,
Refresh my memory on keepers.
Guess I do need to keep that in the back of my mind.
Still don't have all my thoughts in place on how Exit 42 plays out since this is my first time playing it.

Guess I just keep plugging away and we'll see how things play out.

One thing we know for sure is that there will not be 4 undefeated teams after this weekend.

Sure hard to win a game with no QB.
Things just got real tight.

Hey Cliff -

You may keep 1 QB, 1 RB, 1 WR, one PK/TM AND one of ANY position.

My postcard thanking Reggie Wayne is in the mail.

My problem was that I didn't know Gannon was going to get hurt before he scored any points ;)

Oh well, that's why they play the games.

When do we claim our keepers?

From fanball:
Keeper: This league type allows you to keep a maximum number of players at each position while setting the draft order based on last seasons standings. For example, last years champion would pick last while the team with the worst record would pick first. It would then follow a snake format until the end of the draft. You will also be allowed to keep 1 QB, 1 RB, 1 WR, 1 PK or TM, and 1 extra player from any position. If you have a TE you want to keep, you will need to use the "extra player" as your TE. You DO NOT have to keep all 5 players. You may choose to keep less but then you would have to make the roster difference from picks at the end of the draft

I can tell you now that mine are:
QB Trent Green
RB Jamal Lewis
RB Willis McGahee
WR Hines Ward
Carolina Defense

TB - Typically there is time to name them when the league is activated before the season. The Commish will activate the league and set a date for keepers to be declared.

But just in case:

QB Duante Culpepper
RB Kevin Jones
WR Anquan Boldin
TE Tony Gonzalez
Last one to be determined.......lol

Sorry, guys, but you should have remembered I set the keeper deadline for 1 March 2005. You had to submit to me via e-mail. I didn't receive anything from either of you and therefore you forfeit all of your keepers for the coming season. Good luck in 2006. : )

OK, Fanball has opened up Exit42. Check your e-mail because I sent out a message to all of you about this year's version of the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. If you didn't get it, e-mail me and I will forward to you.

Actually, I've already heard from Matt G and Goatlocker. And I'm sure TB is in. So Species and deepsnapper are my target audience. First I want to know if you all are back. Then I want to know when you are available for the Live Draft.

Thanks.

Looks like we only have three teams left that need to activate: Goatlocker, Roosters, and my brother, Scott. I emailed my brother again last night and should talk to him this weekend.

The real reason I am posting is because I don't know what to do with my 2nd team. Erik says he might have room in his 2nd league, but maybe he won't. I tossed it into a random league last year. Not much fun playing against people I don't know. Do the rest of you toss them into a random league?

Tom - I've played in a 12 team league with a bunch of guys for 4 years that usually turns over 1 team/yr. We've got 3 unclaimed so far. It's a redraft league so we always start new. lol

I'll email the commish to see if we have a spot. We don't start drafting until around 8/25, but I'm pretty sure the league's being set this week.

I hope he sets his keepers, but if he doesn't I think you should do it for him. Manning, Barber, Smith, Fitgerald, and Elam is what I would pick for him. Toss-up between the Bears and Elam really, but I have Elam ranked much higher for kickers than I do the Bears for defense. I like Smith and Fitz better than any of his other RB.

Wow, Commish Jr., thank you for your input. You're going to have to wait a couple of days, however.

And by the way, I am resigned to finishing the RIBC Qualifier season without making another trade. I am tired of thinking up proposals and have them sit there for days before anyone responds. If someone makes us an offer I will consider or counter, but my dealing days are over until that happens. I think we are good enough to hold on and win it. And we are pretty competitive picking up FA's. I think we've done a good job getting guys like Hall, Gomes, Cano, Williams, and Jackson. Not all great players, but they do their parts. We can win with them. And Ortiz cranking 3-run homers every other night.

I agree. I am very surprised at some of the trades being made, but after looking at each, they help us. None of the players going to Midwest are going to help him pass us in any categories (meaning he is already far ahead of us or we are far ahead of him, OBP might be close), but they are going to help him pass some of the other guys who are vying for the top five spots. Look at all trade transactions. Some of these managers gave up good players to get the ones they are now trading away for okay players. Cobwebs is still the team to beat. If we can maintain our current hitting stats and show a little improvement in WHIP, we can beat him. I know we are ahead right now but his K/9 is going to bring his K's up to 15 points.

Sorry, Cliff. I know Brighton's Bombers has said he wouldn't pick until he's on the clock anyway, so the draft couldn't get too far. But I thought Matt might pick tonight. Check in tomorrow; a few of us may pick early.

Trading is also allowed now. You can only trade picks on the website, but if you work out a deal involving keepers, we will make it happen after the draft ends.

It's funny like that. Some people love the adrenaline pumping that live drafts generate. Brighton's is one of those.

Most of us around here (I believe) are more conservative by nature and prefer to have time to think every damn move over. Luckily the investment in the LOEG is small and the stakes aren't very high. It's such a civil league, with little to no trash talk. But it's fun and that's important.

So is the Dread Pirate Roberts! I look forward to drafting many potential keepers.

This league really has the potential to produce some ridiculously unbalanced teams. With 5 keepers it could get ugly, although since only 2 of them can be RB's it could be worse.

I have been mocking our first two rounds for the last hour or so. With the limitations on keepers every team can be competitive this year. I preset my card so if Matt G's picks, it should make mine automatic. Erik, I didn't forget to call, just been messing around with our draft stuff.

LOL Taxman.
I was just looking at each team that hasn't confirmed yet and there are good keepers for all of them.
Damann- Bulger, Portis, S. Jackson, Holt, and Pitt D
Matt G- Vick, Westbrook, James, R. Moss, and Miami D
Reyda- P. Manning, Barber, Bell, S. Smith, and Atlanta D

I think everyone else is coming back. I can't say for certain, but I think Damann's team drafts 3rd, Matt G's team drafts 4th, and Reyda drafts 9th. With the limitations on keepers any team can instantly be a contender from season to season.

Keepers are locked. The Live Draft is open. The order as predicted:

1. Goatlockers Maniacs
2. STEWIE GRIFFIN
3. Daman72
4. Saylorsville Slackjawed Yocals
5. Endangered Species
6. -S-
7. deepsnapper's Cowgirls
8. Silver & Black Express
9. Merely Ornery Roosters
10. Basta Monsta
11. Dread Pirate Roberts
12. Brighton's Bombers

IIRC, there is no snaking until round 3. GoatLocker should pick first and 13th.

Mini-shocker on Gates going before Bush.

FYI, Demond/DAMAN is in Japan and it's about 11 PM there now, so he may not pick anytime soon. If I were him, I'd probably have gone to bed thinking I'd be drafting the next morning. So he may be asleep. I emailed him, but it went to his work e-mail address. We could be stuck on him a while.

Maybe Cliff will give us a rationale for Gates, besides that fact that he is a Chargers fan.

TB, Gates is surely a keeper in many instances in our format, especially for teams with no good second RB.

Rumors out of San Diego make me leery of taking Bush.

I'm not getting caught up in that if and when it happens.

Also, remember, he won't get any points in this format for any return yardage.

Would rather have a TE I can keep for a long time.

And for those that hadn't figured it out yet, I'm just not sold on Bush.

And I just refuse to own players I can't / won't cheer for.

Might have been a mistake on my part, but only time will tell.

I thought it was a reasonable pick.

I counseled Alex (STEWIE) to take Bush, because his keepers are not very exciting. I think Bush will be a solid keeper for years to come. Maybe not Tomlinson or LJ but somewhere in the bottom of the first or top of the second round.

I was hoping Gates made it to me at the 8th pick. I know there was a slim chance, but the possibility was there. Now that he is gone, any opinion on whether I should have kept him instead of McGahee? I feel like I had to keep McGahee, top 12 RB in my opinion, over Gates. Now, if it would have let me drop Ward or the Colts defense to keep Gates, that's a different story.

I probably would have kept McGahee also.
That said, I took a long hard look at who was available with the first pick, and just felt in the long run, that the safest pick was Gates.
So much for all the crawling out on the limb that I did with the RIFC draft.
Back to my safe and sane self.

Gotta keep McGahee over a TE, IMO.

I was pleased to snag Boldin at 5. I certainly needed to go "best player available" at this point with my team.

I struggled with whether or not to keep Cadillac, Willie Parker, or Boldin. I love all three. In the end I went with the young talent at the position of greatest importance.

It was surprising (although not terribly) to see 3 of my former guys go in the Top 5. Expecting to see a few more go here in a few picks.

Man, what a team I had for keepers.

In case you missed it, Fanball Real Leagues screwed up the waiver wire for week 1. So they reset all of the transactions and will now hold waiver assignments tonight. You should go back in and redo your list if you want to claim anyone this week.

So is this league dead for 2007? I can't remember exactly how it was left.

Greg - that was my understanding. I'm looking for another league as TB & I are in a 2nd Fanball league.
