Ok, so what possibilities do we have for the draft then? Slow draft would be fine, except I'd be doing 2 at the same time and it's not something I'd want to be worried about. A live draft would be best, depending on when it's set for. Weeknights are doable but I'd rather try to do it during the day on a Saturday or Sunday.

I'm fine either way. I'm traveling a lot for my job, but I'll be able to do a fast draft on a weekend or slow draft with some help through phone calls.
kafenatid.net was the draft system we used last year. It's $10. I vote that last year's last place team covers that.
As of right now we have a good consensus on starting a slow draft on August 15th. Unless we hear strong opposition from the rest we'll plan on that.

By the way, does ESPN have free live stats? I like to watch everything as the day goes, but I'm currently split up over three sites, Fanball, ESPN, and Yahoo. I'm hoping ESPN does as I'll probably pay for stat tracker on Yahoo and if we were still there I'd be good to go.

I don't think the live stats are free on ESPN.
We switched because ESPN will handle the waivers. Last year I did them manually and it caused a few problems, so it will be a big help.
Question.
Last year we discussed doing away with the snake draft for this year. Is that something everyone wants to do? The reasoning is that the snake is set up to balance the first rounds where great difference between players picked round to round exist. since we're keeping a total of 8 players we're basically starting in the 9th where differences are usually small.

-Note: I would like to have 5 of 8 keepers declared by 10:00 cdt on the 24th to save time. I think we all know 5 keepers without needing to see who everyone else is keeping. The last 3 could be drafted like last year to allow people to make last minute tweaks.
ESPN VS. AOL
ESPN is already set up and ready to go, so that's what I prefer. It has all the features we need minus free live scoring which I have always lived without. If we get more interest in AOL I'll set it up and get everyone to sign in.

I live on live scoring, but oh well. We can probably get the draft started a day earlier as well. Promize has the 7th pick and won't exactly be up right away. I also think that we should just choose the 8 keepers and be done with it. No point in wasting time on something that doesn't really need it.

i'm all for AOL. i really like it. i'm also on AOL in 2 other leagues, and it would just make life easier. lol...
man. i draft last. the price i pay for being damned good at this game.
and to save time, i'd like to suggest just naming our 8 keepers in a seperate thread, the sooner the better, with the ability to tweak them anytime until the draft starts.

That draft order is NOT correct. Those are the regular season standings. Post one is the order of official playoff standings.
I'd still like to just declare 5 or six and leave 2-3 to be drafted. It's the way we did it last year and the last 2-3 on most roster are going to be in flux depending on who others keep. I'd rather spend a little extra time drafting 3 rounds then everyone changing keepers up until the last minute. Just as an example, Sangre will probably be choosing between an rb and a wr for his 5th o keeper. That kind of decision will absolutely be based on who others are keeping. If we post all the keepers and everyone changes last minute I think it's unfair and creates chaos.

The draft order is based on playoff finish. The top 4 regular season teams are in the champioship bracket. The next 4 are in the toilet bowl bracket. The last 2 don't play in the playoffs. Cade's just happened to pull through in the playoffs to pull ahead of you.

although it seems like it's unnecessarily complex, it's actually kind of easy, and more importantly, it allows for flex positions.
from the commish page on "Roster Requirements".
Max # of Starters: This number is the maximum number of starters each position can have in its lineup.
Example: If your league allows you to start either 2 or 3 wide receivers, you'd put a "3" next to wide receivers under the Max # of Starters column.
Max Allowed on Team: Some leagues place restrictions on the number of players from some positions that teams can have. For example, bigger leagues will often limit the number of quarterbacks to one per team.
Example: If your league allows only one kicker per team, choose "1" next to Kicker under the Max Allowed on Team column.
Example: Your league requires 3 receivers, and does not require a tight end. However, owners can play tight ends as receivers. To set this up, set your tight end minimum at 0 and the maximum at 3. Set your wide receiver minimum to 0 and the maximum at 3.
Example: Many leagues play with a "flex" offense that allows either A) 2 RBs and 2 WRs or B) 1 RB and 3 WRs or c) 3 RBs and 1 WR. To set this up, set your running back minimum to 1 and maximum to 3. Set your wide receiver minimum to 1 and maxmium to 3.
basically, if we have 2 RB slots, 3 WR slots, and one RB/WR (flex) slot, you would set RB at 2 minimum and 3 max, and WR at 3 minimum and 4 max.

The ESPN league site is a lot better quality. Live stats aren't important enough for me to put up with the shadyness of that AOL site.

Was just mentioning that for any future emails that were to be sent out, because I basically won't get them.
I'm fine with ESPN, and the live scoring isn't a huge deal, it's just a nice extra to make sundays even more exciting.
Sounds like we're staying with ESPN. Now we should just get the draft info finalized for good.

Slow draft means it last over a few days, your not panicing to make a decision in 2 minutes on who you want... You can do some research to find exactly what you need.

I am getting the draft set up (www.kafenatid.net). I have requested Aug. 24 at noon but will have to wait and see what the administrator gives us. I will notify battles when I get the League ID and password and let him email it out.
In the meantime, it would be helpful if everyone at least signed it to the kafenatid website and confirmed they have a working username and password.
As I understand it we are declaring 5/8 keepers pre-draft. Will we do that here at rotoguru and then draft them in rounds 1-5? with rounds 6-8 being our remaining undeclared keepers? Just want to make sure we have thought through all this to ensure a quick start once the draft is set up.

It might be a lot on one person, but we'd be better off if someone entered in all our keepers on the kafenatid site rather than wait for us to put them in ourselves. It will go much quicker and won't hold up the rest of the draft at all.

We will be using the ESPN league we set up previously to run the fantasy league.

I now have an issue:
I was just told that I am being sent on a business trip tomorrow...all day. I should be home around 9 pm est, but I will have no interent access throughout the day. Since we don't know anyone's keepers, I will also not be able to put together a queue.
Do this mean that the real draft can't start until tomorrow night? I will send my 8 keepers to Battles today.

The draft will start at the same time. Just make your pick at your earliest convenvience. Hopefully we will knock out most of the picks over the weekend.
Maybe we could organize an hour or two when we are all sitting in front of the computer.

Ok gang in a couple hours I will be making my journey back home to Georgia.
I actually thought I was gonna send my keepers in today till this piece of junk computer locked up and lost all my research on my players. Actually I know all my offense players and pretty sure I know the defense now as well.. So I should be able to wake up early tommorow and send them. Unless I remember tonight at around midnight when I get home.

Alright, it looks like the first day of drafting might be a little slow due to work situations, even mine. I'll be traveling tomorrow from Austin to Baton Rouge, but I'll have internet access. I'm not actually drving so I should be able to sneak away from business talk long enough to input some keepers.
!!!! The earlier you get your 5 keepers in the better off I'd be. If you could post them tonight or before 8am cdt on wed it would help!!!!
This isn't mandatory, but like I said would help. It is mandatory that you have them in before 10am cdt wed.

it's just a way to prevent everyone from constantly changing keepers pre-draft based on who everyone else keeps. If you want to select 8 now then I can put in 8.
