Survivor Format is summarized in an exerpt from this article. I'm going to add the constitution to this post as I get it written.

"And the next off the island is..." Last year I had the pleasure of competing in HEFFA (Huddle Elimination Free For All) which, to my knowledge, is the first fantasy league format based on CBS' Survivor reality TV show. The league was born at the Huddle forums and is the brainchild of Scott McCoy (a.k.a. OKIPAPPA).

In this Survivor league, similar to the show, the goal is stay on the (virtual) island until you are the only one left. "Out Draft, Out Score, Out Last"? There are no immunity challenges and you can't form a voting alliance to save your bacon in this league. Eighteen owners draft a fantasy team and each week of the NFL regular season the lowest scoring fantasy team is dropped from the competition.

Not really knowing how this format would play out, and since many HEFFA owners were already in numerous other fantasy leagues, the league rules had an overriding motto to keep it simple. We drafted only 10 roster spots - which is still decent depth considering there are 18 teams - and from the 10 started 1 QB, 1 RB, 1 WR/TE, 1 K and 3 flex-RB/WR/TE each week. There are no trades allowed except during the draft and no free agent pickups so it really is a test of consistency and perseverance for the players you draft to form your team. Your top receiver tears his ACL? Deal with it. Only starting QB out with a concussion? Better you than me. One bad week and you could be gone.

Bye weeks are a bit of a concern since there aren't enough starting quarterbacks and kickers to go around, and with only room for 10 players, each roster spot is very valuable. You can choose to draft someone to cover the bye week or roll the dice during a bye that some other team will suffer a really horrible week and get the boot instead of you. I tried to cover a week 13 bye week for Jeff Garcia with Jeff Lewis, who I was sure would take over for Steve Beuerlein by that time. That mistake turned out to be my bon voyage from the island. I don't think we ever did solve the "1 kicker or 2?" debate.

To give you an idea of what to expect, the inaugural HEFFA champion's roster was: Troy Aikman, Tim Couch, James Stewart, Michael Pittman, Priest Holmes, Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, Amani Toomer, Jacquez Green and Sebastian Janikowski. This is probably the only 2000 champion fantasy team out there that can say it sported Troy Aikman and Tim Couch at QB.

One thing the league has tried to come to grips with is keeping owners active after they get the boot. Side contests help a little in this regard. Just hope the infamous week 1 departed owner is a good sport because half the fun is not letting this person forget it - right Hokie?

Drafting skills and luck are both huge determining factors in your success in a Survivor league like this, not necessarily in that order. This is a really fun format though and I highly recommend you try it out. The thing that really appeals to me is that it is low-maintenance during the season but a very tense competition week-to-week (plus no Jeff Probst).

Actully my proposal for draftin order was the owner with the highest dice roll got to pick his draft position in league A and last choice in league B. Instead of letting the luck of the draw determine draft position, let's see what the winner of the dice roll picks. The owner with 2nd highest roll has 2nd choice in one and 2nd to last choice in other. I don't think it's fair for the two people (first and worst dice rolls) to have to have back to back picks in both leagues.

One thing I would suggest is that the drafts be held seperately. I could see it getting very confusing as to who is up for which team, who has been picked already in this league, etc. It is going to make it a longer draft with so many people, but unless we get all die-hard FF fans who can keep these two straight along with all of their other leagues, it could turn into a real hassle.

Good point Shak, you are correct. Originally that's how we did it a few years back (picking draft spots). So the highest roll earns you FIRST choice on draft slot and last choice for draft slot in mirror league. I agree, sorry about that.

My thinking about the two league proposal is that drafting is not only the most important, but it usually is the funnest part of ffl. Double your pleasure. Payouts would be halved, but there would be twice as many winners and you could have a grand prize to the owner that survives the most weeks combined in both leagues. A lot more skilled involved if you have to pick two solid teams. Also, early losers would still be active unless they totally suck and lose in both leagues early.

Not afraid to rock the boat!

I'm not afraid to draft two different teams at once. After all, we do have a 12-hour time limit! What's so hard about setting up two different topics on the message board and checking in every once in a while? Also most owners here should be pretty hard core or they should be playing Yahoo instead.

Jeez Jimbo, jumping me already!!! Just kidding. I am not saying I can't keep it straight (I will probably screw it up now that I mentioned it), but hopefully we can all just keep things straight.

Not so sure I am liking the top 5 spots on the first league. Could get screwed drafting that high in both leagues! Although I believe I drafted 4th and Jimbo was last, so anything can happen. INJURIES!!

The league rules had an overriding motto to keep it simple. We draft only 10 roster spots - which is still decent depth considering there are 18 teams - and from the 10 you will start 1 QB, 1 RB, 1 WR/TE, 1 K and 3 flex-RB/WR/TE each week.

Basically we look at your team after the week is over and see what would have been your best lineup and that's the points you get. So if your team is deep and all 10 players are playing then you have a better chance to post a good score. If you have 7 guys who start for their NFL team and 3 who are backups the you need your stars to play better every week to hang around. If you can draft 10 solid consistent players then you should go far. If you draft guys like the Corey Dillon of old who would get 35 points 1 week then 3 points, then 29, then 4 then you can see that on his bad weeks you could be hurting.

The weekly top scoring owner each week will gain immunity for the next week but it will only last through NFL season 15. Week 16 and 17 their will be no immunity and teams will face off for two weeks with the highest combined score the winner and 2nd highest gets second.

Tie breakers for any given week are TOTAL TD's scored by your team (whole roster), then total TD's scored by your lineup (your actually lineup) then rushing TD's, recieving TDs and finally passing TD's. It will probably never even get to a tiebreaker but you never know.

And no transactions after the draft, you get what you draft to last you all 17 weeks! You can trade during the draft but the max # of players you can have is 10. All trades must be for even number players or picks ie 1 for 1, 2 for 2, 3 for 3 etc.

Scoring
Rules for QB Event Range (Low-High) Points
Passing Yards 25-999 1 point for every 25
Passing Yards 300-999 3

Number of Rushing TDs 1-99 6 points each

Number of Receiving TDs 1-99 6 points each
Receiving 2 Pointers 1-99 2 points each
Number of Field Goals Made 1-99 3 points each
Extra Points 1-99 1 point each
Fumbles Lost (to Opponent) 1-99 -2 points each

Rules for RB, WR Event Range (Low-High) Points
Rushing Yards 10-999 1 point for every 10
Rushing Yards 100-999 3
Receiving Yards 10-999 1 point for every 10
Receiving Yards 100-999 3
Receptions 1-99 0.5 points each

Rules for TE Event Range (Low-High) Points
Rushing Yards 10-999 1 point for every 10
Rushing Yards 100-999 3
Receiving Yards 10-999 1 point for every 10
Receiving Yards 75-999 3
Receptions 1-99 1.0 point each

TE's are treated as Wr's in this league just so you know.

Draft
The draft is serpentine with a twist in 2005. As usual we will roll them bones. All 18 owners will roll and I will verify all rolls, my roll will be verified by Shak/Clyde. This season we will actually run two leagues simultaneously which also means two drafts simultaneously. This is the idea, we sort out from the bone rolls who picks 1st through 18 (100 is the best, 1 is the lowest) and more bone rolling instructions will come. Owner #1 will pick what draft position he wants in draft #1. Owner #2 will pick his slot and so forth and down to owner #18. In mirror league the owner with #18 will select what draft pick he wants first in draft #2, owner #17 will pick next and so forth down to owner #1. Does that make sense? I'll clarify in another post if it appears to be too complicated, which it is not.

2005 payouts are as follows
Survivor in each league gets $210
Runner up in each league gets $75
Highest total score for all 17 weeks gets $50 in each league.
Owner who survives the most weeks combined between two leagues gets $50.

That adds up to $720 which is the entry fee in full, no site to payout, you get IT ALL BACK!.

Any questions, what did I miss?

I guess since there are two leagues this time around, trades are still allowed, but only in the same league....I mean that makes sense right? To avoid duplicating rosters. (were there any trades last year) Also, I have put in a request for some of my friends here in Kosovo to join the league (still pending). If the slots are limited can they split up, as in each guy takes one team in each league. Just wondering? I dont see how it would matter to anyone, but I had to ask to make sure.

First off TB, I feel for you if you are in a league with Tribe and Trash. I run a league with those two in it and it is hell:o) Second, I would like to thank you for that last statement. I believe it should be the title for the league.

SURVIVOR: Ed, first off the rock!!

Has a ring to it doesn't it? I am certain there will be another sighting of him and the fiancee's he left back on last years island. They are still wanting the bar tab paid!! Should be a blast. I will warn all of you here who haven't played this before, this can be VERY addicting. Even though there isn't anything to do after the draft, I found myself looking at this as much or more than my regular leagues.

I only briefly looked over the scoring, but does it mirror a CBS league to aid in weekly scoring? I also see that immunity near the end could be a life saver. That is new this year isn't it? I mean, having immunity past week 9.

Anyway, there was a lot of smack talk and strategy talked and predictions made. This really is a good time and once the draft is done, only the person adding up the scores has something to do. So start printing off the cheat sheets and doing the research.

Survivor in each league gets $210
Runner up in each league gets $75
Highest total score for all 17 weeks gets $50 in each league.

I think the real goal is to be the #1 survivor overall. If you drop the individual champs down to $150 and the runners up to $60, you could have a grand prize of $200 for the best survivor owner. I think that is the true show of survivor expertise.

Survivor Draft Leagues

These leagues can use either the auction draft or the standard draft. Once the rosters have been filled out however the rules are much different. Similar to the television show, Survivor, in this style of league, the team with the fewest points scored in a week is booted out for the season. It is very important in this kind of league to build a well-rounded squad that can withstand the perils of injuries, bye weeks and other similar challenges. Usually in this kind of league, no free agent pickups or trades are allowed. Because of the format, there is possibly a higher degree of luck involved as you can have one back week and be kicked out of the league.

Clarification on WR and TE's before someone asks.

You do not have to draft a TE, but if you do they will be treated as WR's for the lineups sake and fall under the TE scoring system for points sake. I'm going to go out on limb and say we had 8 TE's drafted last season. I'll check, hold 1.

I can feel the "Love" in the air? Like in Chess your goal is not to capture the Pawns (RBP, Shak) you can only win my capturing the King (BigEd, Clyde) , I had to add him as he won last year and that was the same as N.E. losing to Miami.

"Ed first off the Rock". I love you guys too.

I like either option, I'll go with GCobb, cuz he's the smartest guy I know.

Peace and where is the best draft position that is the question? I would say somewhere in the middle as your picks will be pretty good on every round and you stay away from the runs on QB's like last year.....If I had to pick right now, I would draft position #8.

That does make sense. Normally the RB position has a definite drop off at some point before postion #10, but this year I think it might go into the teens before you see a big Dropoff. This the first year that I've seen this amount of Top quality RB's. I agree LT is the man, I won't go into names, but it is a deep position this year and I think the QB's are pretty average after Manning, Culpepper and McNabb. I don't think anyone wants to draft from position 18...I'll give Shak credit on being the RU after drafting from #18.

I'm getting excited already.

I don't mind 18 in the least. Ed I think your right, the RB position is really deep. We'll probably see 2 QB's drafted in round one that should be and 1 that shouldn't (that's my opinion and my secret but his name rhymes with Dick).

I vote for option 2. I think you guys are misunderstanding option 2. If you want to spread the wealth, then you are for option 2, which has 3 big payouts of $150(x2) and $200. It still has money for the the runners up and the high scores.

I am in Arizona and Grim Reaper is in Vegas. Please put the Gum Sellers down as the first alternate. He is in the process of PCS'ing to Mildy and will be on line soon.

As stated earlier my name is Chuck. It's been my honor to serve this great country for 25 years. I did time on B-52/KC-135 at Carswell AFB TX, E-3A Gielenkirchen Germany (USAFE Small Unit Softball Champs 4 years in a row, MC-130H/P/E 353 Spec Ops Kadena, HC-130E/H Dyess AFB TX, and am currently the 372 FTD, Det Chief Shaw AFB, SC. Started playing FF back in the dark ages before internet in 1992. Met some great people along the way of both the AF and FF. To be honest, to me it's not all about winning, its enjoying the converstation and good natured ribbing. OK but I lean more to the side of winning. Looking forward to meeting a new group of great people.

Most of you know me but I'll throw out some current info. My name is Scott McCoy and currently I'm stationed at Andersen AFB with orders to Osan AB, ROK. I had a follow on to Misawa but cancelled it in an effort to get to Elmendorf. I have been in the AF for just under 15 years. Been stationed at Edwards, Kadena, Mildenhall and Andersen. I started playing FF in 1992 and just like Chuck we had to wait until the paper came out on Monday to see if we had won or not. My first league was TD's only and we only had 7 roster spots. I can tell you that in year one I drafted Barry Sanders in round 1 (#2 overall behind Warren Moon). I personally know STB, HHH, Shak, Ed, Clyde, LR, Buddy, Tribe and 2Cool. I have not met the rest of the guys but have played in a league in the past with all but TB and SupaMario. I love to wheel and deal. I love the draft and preparing for the draft. In short just like you I am a FF junkie. Looking forward to another exciting Survivor season and it looks like we have a good group of guys (and girls if you count Clyde). Good luck, but not too much.

Chuck I was at Carswell from 87-90 and Geilenkirchen just before I had too medically retire in 2000, worked in DOX called the vault, loading up all the Training and real world Siop missions for the 27 B52's on the base , best job I ever had. I new most of the Bombloaders and Pilot/Nav guys on the B52. My guess is you worked on the KC-135 crews? Great, looks all you boys had some Cool assignments. How long was I silent....2 hours?

Gary Cobb -- AF for just over 18 years and should be able to retire at the end of my current assignment at Elmendorf. I've been stationed at Bergstrom AFB, in the center of the civilized football world, Austin TX. I've also been stationed at Davis-Monthan, Mildenhall, and now here at Elmendorf. I've been playing FF since 1996, mostly with Ed and HHH, and I also enjoy preparing for the draft and wheeling/dealing. I personally only know Ed and HHH although I got my arse handed to me by a number of these guys last year playing this format. Hopefully I learned a few tricks and make a better showing this year.

I was at carswell from 80 to 92. Are paths had to have grossed. I set up the generation timings for both the Buff and Gas passers for Maintenance. I had to pick up a lot of classified from the vault. I was at GK from 92-96. Lead production Super. Almost had half as much time in Trapani and Greece as I did at GK. I took most of my deployments with Squadron 1.

Tom Bennett. I hit 20 years active Army next month and just requested my retirement paperwork. It's been a pleasure serving, but it is time to plant some roots and settle down. I started out on M60 tanks in '85 and transitioned to the M1A1 in 88-89. My assignments include 1/63 Armor at Ft. Riley, KS, 2/81 Armor at Ferris Barracks Erlangen, Germany, and 1/8 Cav Ft. Hood, TX with a short tour to the Middle East 90-91. I have also been stationed in Salt Lake City, UT (Not far from Hill AFB), Wichita, KS (about 2 minutes from McConnell and the best gym I have ever used on any military base/post), and Joplin, Springfield, and Kansas City, MO. I am currently stationed in Kansas City.

My brother and I thought we invented fantasy football until the internet came around. I still have some of the old score sheets where we used to set our line-ups and do our weekly pick-em's. I had to start saving them because every year he kept telling me he won the year before. I quit saving them when he was right...lol

Ok, since the rest of you are doing it. I am AF and have almost 13 years in. I have been stationed at Mt. Home AFB, Idaho, Mildenhall, England, Keflavik, Iceland and now back to England at Lakenheath. I started playing a crude form of FF back in '95 and full time in '97. I can honestly say I haven't won much, but I am getting better. I did win this one last year with a VERY solid team. The only weak point on my team was QB and that was because Vick either had 30 or 4. Atlanta locking up early didn't help either.

One thing I am VERY good at is talking smack. Ed and I will almost come to blows on this board before the draft kicks off, but we mean no harm. Please take no offense if I verbally abuse you. This is all in good fun and money in my pocket.

Im Joe McCabe and have been in Kosovo for the last 13 months. I was introduced to this league last year by Hobdy and was almost knocked out the first week. My claim to fame was I was tied for the lowest score in the first week last year along with the "All Colts" fantasy team, but prevailed due to one TD. Imagine that, the one game Manning did not throw 4 td's (thanks patriots). Im an eagles fan which makes me regret saying thanks to the patriots.

Chuck--Small world huh? That's amazing, my Grand Father is 82 and is losing his memory so I'm really looking forward to seeing him in September because I don't know how long he's going to live.

I could write a nice book about his life; Two way high school football All-American (End and End), went to Ohio State for 1 season before the war, drove a tank in the Battle of the Bulge under Patton, farmed for 30 years , retired for 10 years and then he won $100,000 in the state lottery. He is also a charter member of our High Schools Hall of Fame which is kind of cool to his picture every time I go in there. Also he was one of the first few to enter a concentration camp in Germany and he took down the Nazi flag and it is HUGE, by huge I mean it's like 20' x 15'. Pretty neat stuff, I'll ask him which concentration camp it was if he remembers.

Chuck on a side note have you seen "When trumpets fade", an HBO movie about a coward who becomes a hero in the Ardennes? I thought it was an excellent movie. I'm a WWII and Civil War buff, can't get enough of it.

Ok here we go. The purpose of the roll is to determine the pecking order that draft positions will be selected. Exact instructions are below, as your roll them bones I'll verify it was done right and post it here. An incorrect roll will not be counted. I'll repeat, an incorrect roll will not count. If you do it right you will get something that looks like this...

"scott.mccoy@andersen.af.mil requested that 2 rolls of a 100-sided die be rolled.

Roll them bones ... your dice are

Roll 1: 27.
Roll 2: 69.

Mail was sent to you at scott.mccoy@andersen.af.mil."

Roll #1 is your number. Roll #2 is the tiebreaker. The higher the number the better, 100 is the highest and 1 is the lowest. I copyed and pasted the page and posted your answer to each question below. You can request that someone else roll for you because it is impossible to cheat. If you would like someone to roll for you just post your email here and send the roll to me and you and it will be official.

Describe this roll:
How many dice would you like to roll? 1
How many sides are on each die? 100
Should anything be added or subtracted from the total roll? No
You can drop either the highest or lowest die roll (or both.) Don't drop anything

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The entire roll can be repeated; how many times? 2
