Subject: Proposed Survivor Draft Dates

http://www.nfl.com/schedules/preseason/2005#preweek1
Based on preseason schedules week 2 of preseason ends on August 20th (except for two later games). The NFL season starts on 8 September.
I figure the drafts will last 10-14 days if owners utilize lists when away for long periods. I have bought into the idea of starting the draft after two weeks of preseason has been played. No transactions after the draft has convinced me that it's the right thing to do. Now I'm worried that people won't check in often or use max time to make picks. It could take a month worst case (maybe even longer). So with that in mind starting closer to the NFL season kickoff is good but is a disaster if we don't finish before the season starts.
So three options.
1) Start Sunday August 21st (19 days before kickoff). 2) Start Friday August 26th. (14 days before kickoff) 3) Start Sunday August 28th (12 days prior).
Ed and FNAS have the #1 picks so anytime on the agreed upon draft date you can start. Rotoguru appears to be on EST. I'll probably post this in it's own thread to get more visibility.
Vote option 1, 2, or 3.
Thanks Scott |

I'm just happy we have backed off the 1 Aug date. Since I have constant internet access, I am good for any of the three options. However, as we have already seen, all it takes is a handful of owners to max out the 12 hour clock and the draft can drag on. If some owners anticipate having to take 6-8 hours for their picks, then we'll have to go with the first option, which isn't too bad. Most picks will be made after the 2nd preseason games and some will even be made after the 3rd and 4th games.

I vote option #1, it took us 16 days last year to get thru one draft of ten rounds? I'm always see the glass half empty, sorry!!!

I say the 21st because we are going to take quite awhile to finish two drafts here and all of our other drafts, so the more time the better.
If we start getting close and owners are taking the full time of 12 hours, how about a penalty of losing their pick. Unless there is a good reason. We CANNOT be drafting once the season begins. The penalty is harsh, but so is throwing away the league because all of us need 2 more players after the season starts. Just a suggestion.

Option 3 all the way. If the owners are not proactive enough to draft, then I say shorten the time limit and press on...who ever is not on board, leave them in the dust. Boy, Am I a hard ass or what?

Wow, I like the Grim Reaper's attitude. I'll go with 3 also. Either sh!t or get off the pot! If we start falling behind, we just lower the time limit to 8 hours then to 6 or less.

OH, I see, if they can't make a pick in 12 hours, lowering it to 6 will get them to move faster?!?! If someone get skipped and gets pissy about it, they may just dump the whole draft and where does that leave us? Not saying anyone IS going to do that, but is seven days that critical? That is only one game for your players to risk getting hurt compared to starting on the 28th. Seven extra days is a lot considering the amount of people and players that need to be drafted. I am just concerned that either we won't finish on time or someone will just drop out if their turn is missed and they don't get players of the same caliber as they would have if they were away from their computer unexpectedly.

Too true. Speaking of paying, what is up with the paypal thing Scott? Can we still send you a check? Do you still accept payment in Pop-Tarts? You still owe me two packs for the certain football games OSU lost!! Won't mention which team beat them.

I like option #1, starting on the 21st. It means I should be able to make my first pick in league two by the 28th...lol
How do we pay? If paypal is an option that would be great.

Option 1... I guess, who's time zone would we use for the start... It doesn't matter to me, I'll stay up all night.

I would suggest we star on a Friday. If no one can access the site from work, why would we start it when we'll be at work. If everyone got into it, we could knock out a couple rounds by monday morning.

EST. In draft #2 you'll kick it off anytime on the day of the draft. Were all over the world and EST is right in the middle.
