Wow. TO for $22...solid buy.

we will see how cheap he really was, but compared to the other talent open for bid at the moment he looks like a steal.
anyone worried about a TO holdout?

I hope Fred Taylor makes a solid 3rd or 4th RB

The TO buy could be the still of the draft, but a lot of uncertainty, and the fact that I hate him, lead me to not bid.

Did I hear that TO said he will report to training camp?

No way TO holds out AFTER he reports to camp (whcih he said he will).

TO is going to end up being a great buy I believe.

A nice slip under the radar. An online auction draft brings a lot more "cleverness" to the bidding. Especially when I'm at work all darn day.

speaking of which....with Ricky Williams having reported to teh Dolphins training camp, and it looking like he'll only have to "serve" a 4-game suspension...could be interesting if/when he gets named to the board. :)

Thinking of starting a seperate thread for each teams rosters. Make it easier to see where your squad and any other is, as far as filling the slots. Still use the central "auction winners" thread to post ewach, but have a second team locale for filling out each squad.

I'd like to see then, only wiggs or myself posting under those threads, to add a player, with one exception. Some of the team names dont correspond to our rotoguru ID's (mine amongst them), so its kind of hard to tell who is who. After I post each teams ESPN name as you gave it, I'd like for the owner to be the first post under the thread, identifying that as their squad.

not that hard at all THK. IIRC, they use a 4,000,000 budget? We use 200. chop off the last 4 zero's and cut the price in half. Take all of 1/2 second.

I'll share them later.

Might be a little high on the two rookies, but don't think so with those two.
I see them as the best two producers for the rookies.

Have seen LTs value at much, much higher than that depending on the scoring system.

I saw a $100 limit that had him at 42 which would equate to 84.

Not saying that is what I value him at, just what I have seen.

I also had him valued at higher than 70, but not quite in the 80's.

It all depends on your rankings and valuations. There are several players that are approaching double what I had them valued at.

TO was underpriced. If it werent for the questions surrounding his attitude, he'd have gone for damn near twice what he did. Problem here is, $30 (probably about where he should have been), is a lot to pay for someone who may or may not..."show up" for work come game time.

for me no TE is worth more then 10. I had Gonzo at 10 and Gates at 7.

but I have to say that my values are very conservative and seem very low at the moment. maybe I have to rethink or I get a lot of steals at the end of the draft.

That's not what I said, I said that it could be. It depends on some other factors.

I'm sure other people feel the exact same way about the purchases of LT and Alexander. According to my valuations I have already seen some worse buys. The thing about fantasy football is injuries can kill you in a heartbeat, and you never know who is going to have a monster breakout year.

that all depends if Peyton has another career year and is throwing the same amount of TDs to him.

I would have paid up to 10 for him.

interesting that there is so much $ between the studs at their positions and the mid-tier players. if you look at the QB taken until now:
Peyton Manning 50
Donovan McNabb 43
Daunte Culpepper 42
Kerry Collins 24
Michael Vick 19
Tom Brady 17
Jake Plummer 15
Chad Pennington 11
is there really such a big difference between the first 3 and the rest? I feel very comfortable with the duo of Vick/Plummer. Vick runs more Plummer throws more.

I am very happy with the Davis win of just $31 considering what the other backs have been going for. Also happy with Tiki. I am not a Tiki fan but he has had at least 1,600 total yards each of the last 2 yrs and I expect him to duplicate that once again with at least 10 TDs making him another solid back for only $35.

Dom Davis
Tiki Barber
Chad Johnson
Todd Heap

thats the diff between this kind of draft done live, or via online. Live, with an auctioneer...its a royal blast! 1 player at a time is up for bids and the auctioneer runs the show. If you EVER have the oppty to participate in one of those (where a genuine auctioneer is used), DO IT! Never have so much fun wasting a day any other way.

OK, this reminds me of a story. :)

My son Al, was 4 at the time. Buddy lived downstairs in base housing, Benjamin. Went by BJ. His son, Benjamin Jr, went by "Lil BJ".

BJ and I were in my apratment having a beer. (OK, several beers. It was a Saturday) Al comes in and says;
"Lil BJ took my car"

I said;
"Well. Go take it back."

Al went back out and came back in a little later.

"Lil BJ hit me."

"Well. Go hit him."

Al went back out and came back in a little later.

"Lil BJ hit me AGAIN!"

I started laughing and said;
"Well. Thats called, 'a fight'. Go back out there and hit him. You two will keep doing this, until one of you says...phuck-it. I've had enough."

***************************************

"Well. this is an auction. You two will keep doing this until one of you says 'phvck-it. I've had enough."

I love reading this trash talk.

I often bid for players I don't really want only to raise the bid, but I am still searching for a RB and Jamal would fill that void so in that case it was an honest bid.

at the current price-level I'm saying it in sarge's words: "phvck-it. I've had enough."

Just had a curious thought as to how to potentially execute an auction-like draft, in two sessions. I'm going to post the "how" of the idea, and then I'd like everyones thoughts/opinions/etc.

Day1:
(for the sake of argument, we'll assume everyone can post at exactly 9pm central on Tuesday.)

On que, everyone loads up and posts their roster budgets.

Day2:
we'll assume the following sunday afternoon.

high bid for each position, picks first from those players.

for ex:

QB: $35
RB: $30
RB: $20
WR: $25
WR: $15
WR/RB: $30
TE: $5
K: $5
D: $5
Bench
1: 10
2: 5
3: 3
4: 3
5: 2
6: 1
7: 1
total 195

anyone who bid more than my 35 at QB, would pick their QB before I pick mine. My pick, would come ahead of those who bid 34 or less.

a method of resolving tie bids is needed, but other than that...

I dont like that at all...

I would rather not have an auction draft be executed in 2 sessions. People getting involved in betting frenzies is the most fun part...

People getting stuck with a player...
People running out of $$$ quick and having to watch players go off the board...
Etc........

It's no problem. I wasn't complaining at all...that is expected with just an 8 hrs clock. I am in a league with a 24 hour FA auction going on right now and if somebody bumps a player inside 2 hrs it means war...it is really funny...

Keep bumping KJ if you would like! No telling what I am going to do! ;-)

Pitts D by wazaap, was posted at 23:23 last night. That grants 12 hrs 37 minutes before the clock stops for the night. Leaves 5 hrs 23 minute to go, once the clock starts at 8 in the morning. that means, at 1:23 (13:23) the 8 hrs was up.

to cover the time span when the bid runs overnight...add 14 and then subtract 24.\

ie 23:30 + 14:00 = 37:30. 37 -24 =13. Thus at 13:30, 8 of our running clock hrs, will have passd. (other way is to subtract 10....23:30 - 10:00 = 13:30)

at 15:57, wiggs declared THK's bid as "void". That ruling, negates the fine/penalty, in that it essentially eliminated the bid from ever being considered. Not what I would have done, but no matter.

I'm quite confident, that absolutely EVERYONE is now intimately familiar with the rule and the apparent repercussions. :) I trust, that it will most likely not happen again.

suspending the clock and bidding, until I get home and have the chance to "review" everything in detail.

See exactly which bid put THK over, if there were additional bids submitted after that bid and prior to the remedy.

We had earlier stated, that no manager could retract a bid once made. the reason for this is simple...each bid, impacts the subsequent startegy of the other managers in working their auction strategies. Once posted, decisions cannot be changed to reflect what they would have been, had the bid never been posted.

With apologies, this is all I have time to do at the moment.

Sarge, regarding the possibility that someone is fined and not able to fill their roster. Is it in the rules that they have to give up players in the reverse order they bought them in, or can they select one player to drop?

The reason I ask is, a lot of players were purchased early in the draft for large amounts, Most likely the players purchased in the later stages of the draft will cost less. If a 1 player drop would meet the requirements is it necessary that multiple players would have to be dropped? I just hate to think that someone made 5 or 6 bids and had to drop 5 or 6 players to comply.

If it is stated in the rules I have no problem, if it isn't then it needs to be stated to avoid a future issue. Writing rules for a league is tough, and you did a good job, I'm just trying to help improve them to avoid a future confrontations.

I hate that had to take place. I'd feel the same way in your shoes.

Since you were probably planning on leaving about that much for waiver and FA pickups, you could either stick to your original budget and take a risk that your team will stay healthy, or reduce your player budget. Also remember that you can trade to clear cap space for pickups if needed.

Not that it is any comfort but at least you're not completely dead. And I actually have your team rated third on my board right now even with the penalty, so I think you can overcome it. Until you play my team, anyway. :)

re 169...looking back, it seems I never addressed taht potentiality.

OK, I'll leave it open. IF a manager has to drop player(s) during the draft to free up cap space so as to be able to fill their rosters, that manager may select any player(s) from their active roster as the dropped player(s). Said player(s) will immediately be added to the board, with an opening bid of $0. The offending manager, shall be deemed ineligible for bidding on said player(s).

Does that work for everyone?

I really like the part that the person who drops a player is not eligible to bid on the player.

Wouldn't be fair is someone dropped a player and bought them back at a cheaper price.

2 rationales for prohibiting the dropping manager from bidding on the same player;

a) you're dead right. wouldnt be at all fair if for ex, goatlocker waited until everyone else was down to $20 or less, overbids and drops LT, gets back $72, and bids $23 cause noone has more than that.

b) the dropped player is a little "put out" with that teams management. Being signed and cut before preseason even, I dont think he'd be in any hurry to resign with the same squad.

THK----sorry about the apparent "reversal" re applying the fine. When I sat and thought about it abit, it really would not have been fair to NOT apply it, since it is rather clearly set out in the "rules" and an example is used which happens to correlate directly to what happened. Rules as such, are only fair, if they are applied when applicable, in all cases. Anything else, and they become subjective, and that can lead to all kinds of abuses, deliberate or otherwise.

btw, if I wanted you to quit, I'd see to it you did. Fact is, I dont want you or anyone else to quit. That isnt the point of starting this thing. That wasnt the point of allowing you to join this league. Now, either grow up, quit feeling/acting so damn put-upon, or I'll have no choice but to seek a replacement manager for next year and not extend the invite to you. THAT is not something I want to see happen. But I will not allow one manager, to drag down the enjoyment level for the other 11.

I understand THK. I really do. Applying the fines is never smething I've enjoyed doing, but it was the only way I had previously found, to "force" bidders to pay attention to filling the entire roster AND keeping their bids in line. Since each bid made, affects how someone else approaches the auction, some mechanism has to be there to force budgets to be adhered to. *shrug* If there is another way, I'd be open to discussion and potential implementation next year.

Also, any further tossing about of obscenities...and you'll be history. Smack talk is fine. Its even encouraged. But garbage mouth, WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.

Have you asked yourself LTD, why it was you got booted from another league you were in? It's because you carried on like a spoiled 5 yr old whose mommy wouldnt buy him that "insert name if ridiculously overpriced item here* that he wanted so he threw a tantrum. Week in and week out, the on thing we could count on...was you whining. You weren't allowed to drag that league down into the toilet, and I wont allow you to drag this one down either.

Now...either shape up and act like a man, or you will be gone. LAST chance to justify my decision to allow you in the league.

i don't bid with the intent of waitint till the last miniute to bid. if that was the case you wood see me 1-2 min. before the timmers up.

I set an alarm for players coming up on their timers expiration about an hour before it, just to see if bids go any direction, i don't have time to sit here all day to watch and see who's bidding on who i'm watching, sorry if it looks like i'm doing something just to piss you off potty mouth butt i'm not.

do need to come up though, with a procedure for a manager who has filled his roster.

My suggestion would be:

Allow that manager with the least $/slots ratio, to name a player. (This is the manager with the lowest likelihood of actively bidding and thus the least likely to win a bid. Thereby, leaving them unlikely to fill their roster.)

thoughts?

What happens if the player nominated does not get a bid?

The reason I ask is I would probably be putting most of those players up, at least for the near future.

What about having a Commish put up the highest ranked player off of a 3rd party draft board: Yahoo, ESPN, or whatever you were using Sarge?

It could be an advantage to be in the position to keep nominating fringe players at $1 hoping to win them.

Not that I am in a position to have to do that or anything. ;) Cough, Ben Hartsock, Cough

well, if we let the manager with the least $$/open roster slot name a player, they'd name one with a $1 opening bid. Thus, no player would be w/o a bid. Too, in that financial scenario, I dont see a manager naming a player they dont intend to add to the roster, assuming no one else bids. They do need to have 16 players afterall and they cant afford to win a bid on someone they dont want.

lol Frick. I had to look him up too. Honestly, I thought that was a brilliant auction-draft strategy to execute at the time. RB's were drawing ALL of the attention, and you slipped a TE onto your roster for dirt cheap and w/o contention.

LTD...grow the fvck up. Right now. I have neither the time, nor the inclination to put up with 6 yr old playground pettiness.

As for bidding on players a manager doesnt want, thats at least half the strategy in an auction draft. I thought this had been pretty well covered, but if necessary, so as much, and I'll cover it again, but this time I'll type r-e-a-l slow so you can keep up.

Sarge, the appropriate response would have been

"Go back and bid again!" In reference to your story about the 4 year-olds.

LTD, I guess since butthead has no running backs currently on his roster that he is doing this just to taunt you.

Have you ever had a Economics class? If not find a book and read about value vs. scarcity. On average the best values tend to come in the middle, after the inital buying frenzy and before there are few items left. The hard part is knowing when the middle is occuring.
