He can't...he will need somebody to get on AIM and relay him the picks. You probably only need to say 1 name that is available! ;-) I am suprised with the way it has gone so far...looks like I will be left with a touch decision.

I will gladly move down to #7 MJD for just a 1 pick upgrade in round 2 (so swapping our first 2 picks)..let me know if you are interested.

Thanks for letting Priest slide btw.

that's what I thought at first but it looks like rifc is going to leave it running on the weekends. I don't really care either way. if their is some support for turning off the clock on weekends then I don't have a problem with it.

btw - I've e-mailed cehp about registering at kafenatid. hopefully he'll get that taken care of soon.

can't even get 'on the clock' going til cEHp registers.

you really shouldn't sign up for an on-league if you can't get on-line on a somewhat regular basis.

I'm inclined to just replace him with someone else who is interested in joining.

the clock will start at 7 est this morning and will run til 11pm est.

the clock will start with cEHp. if he doesn't get his pick in (and also register for our draft at kafenatid) then I think it's best that we replace him immediately.

rather than just skip his team in the draft, I think it's a good idea to quickly find a replacement for him and allow them to make a pick. 2nd rd pick is crucial.

when/if he clocks out, I probably won't be around right then. whoever is around at that time, feel free to recruit a new owner for that team, or at least have a member of the RIFC select a player for that team so we can keep things moving.

we will not run the clock this saturday and sunday. THK is in the process of moving and hubble will be camping and it's likely that a few others will be away from computers.

we may run it the next weekend if we are behind schedule.

If your rationale was skipped (placeholder) please go ahead and post it in this thread and I will insert it into the rationale thread for you.

Otherwise, it will be a lot easier if we all post our rationales (from two rounds previous) at the same time we are making our current picks or at least posting your own placeholder so that your rationale can be inserted later.

My best hours are between noon and 3AM, so look for me then and I'm available for queue duty between those hours.

My 2nd round rationale may need to be delayed, since a good portion of it depends on a player not chosen yet.

Jordan

Well, I guess I buy the fact that OAK will have a decent offense this year. Jordan seems to be the all-hype back ala Bennet last year. I'm a bit worried about him being the second coming of Wheatley. However, it was between him and Bell and I didn't want to get into the habit of worrying what Den might do at RB all season.

Me and CEHP have something in common. See if you can figure it out. Hint, it isn't good.

Hubble, go ahead and put a placeholder for Wiggs and then post your own rationale.

Copied from the rationale thread for everyone:
Please post your comments at the time you make your pick. For example, you should post your comments for your round 1 pick when you make your round 3 selection. If you are not ready to post at that time, then, create a "placeholder" so that the next person is able to go ahead in sequence. When your post is ready, simply post it in the draft discussion thread and a moderator can copy it over.

If your rationale is due and intervening placeholders have not been inserted, please insert them before posting your rationale.

I think we have to start taking leaving Qs more seriously. Or explaining why we are not leaving Qs (also OK).

culdeus picked at 12:37. Then ThK came close to timing out. OK, That's one issue, but IMO, at least the next 6 or 7 people after ThK ought to either be around, leave a queue, or explain why they are not available to do either. We shouldn't be waiting for an hour and a half for someone without any comment right now.

It needn't be a long explanation. "I was busy today and need some time to update and I will pick before x:yy" is enough. "I can't decide between 2 WRs; I need some time" is enuf.

At this point in the draft, being away for even a few hours without leaving a queue or indicating when you will be available is rude. If you don't give a frick, still let us know when or if you will be picking.

Nobody wants to do rationales. Maybe we ought to be put down to AA status.

For the present I suggest reducing the clock to 5 hours beginning next round.

Also we need to know who is going to be unavailable this upcoming weekend.

I'd like a 4 hour clock during the week and a 6 hour clock on the weekend, but I'm sure there will be opposition to that.

How about a shorter clock between the hours of 5PM to 11PM. One or 2 hours during that 'prime time'.

I agree that it is rude to disappear for hours at a time when it is your turn.

I can understand not wanting to leave a queue in the early rounds, but by now there is no excuse.

I am in support of a quicker clock, but I will not support a 1 -2 hour clock. things are hectic here with my wife in and out of the hospital and me working 2 jobs. I am on the end so it is hard to leave a queue to many picks in advance. I signed up for a draft with 4-6 hours between picks and some people are taking advantage of that, but I for 1 have picked in a timely manner and dont feel I should be punished for others taking way to long.

kafenaid doesn't support varying time limits.
you can only set one time limit.

we all get impatient when we're around a computer and the person on the clock isn't. I've never see a draft where this wasn't the case. but, the fact is that we're on target to finish well before the football season begins.

Well, mjd did during "prime time".

I think we need to know more about what's "prime time" for different people. If someone's unavailable for 4 hours every weekday -- 9 to 1, 1 to 5, whatever, that's no problem so long as everyone knows about it. The frustrating thing is thinking "OK, this guy may pick anytime" and waiting 6 hours.

Now those are good rationales!

Rationales don't have to be fancy. They don't have to include padding. Like in my Kevin Jones and CMart rationales I included some statistical crap. Padding. Or crap. You could have looked up the stats yourself.

Why do you like the guy?; who did you want but someone else took?; who else did you consider?.
Basics of a good rationale.

I thought you went to bed and gave up on you posting your rationale. Your little bit turned out to be the same little bit some other people have been taking to draft. ;)

On a serious note, I think the draft has been moving along okay except for a couple slow downs.

I appreciate those who have taken the time to get caught up on your rationales. I have updated the thread with everyone's rationales that were posted in here. I still have the Bennett and Vick ones in my email from you, Culdeus, and will post them when they come around due if you aren't on here to post them yourself.

I appreciate MJD helping to keep up with placeholders, but neither one of us should have to put a placeholder for other owners. Even if you decide to never conform by writing any of your rationales, at least put in your own placeholder.

Most of my rationales will be short because football is my 3rd best fantasy sport. 90% of my drafting is based on what others have predicted or written. I'm not the type of person that sits in front of a TV all day on Sunday watching games. I'll catch highlights and might watch bits and pieces of a few games but I don't make it the ritual some people do. Don't get me wrong though, I still plan on kicking everyone's tail in this league.

You're right, TB. I did not meet my commitment.

However I did mitigate the damage from my breach by posting before I went to bed.

On a serious note -- not satiric, not insulting --every league needs a miltary or ex-military guy to act as sergeant-major or enforcer, if not commissioner. Ex- or present- military guys will take orders (from the Commish, in this example). If they are screwed by the application of some rule, whether stupid or not, they never complain.

If asked, they will always help.

To repeat myself, I believe ex-miltary guys may be distinguished on these boards by this: they never complain.

Discuss.

these are the only clock options at kafenatid:

-what time it starts
-how long for each pick
-what time it stops
-does it pause on the weekend

as far as thk's clock goes, he'll simply be skipped til he shows up again.

i am pretty sure you can actually change the clock for each pick. so when THK comes up, just set it to an hour or something, then switch it back.

the thought of all of us having to wait another six hours for the same person to miss their pick is not a thrilling prospect.

it would have to be done manually - meaning I'd have to be around to do it each time his pick came around.

we'll just skip him until he shows up again. then hopefully he'll see that he needs to deal with this in some way.

it won't be a chronic problem. anyone who clocks out multiple times will be at risk of having his team given away to someone else.

Wiggs - if you want to send me a queue with like 3 picks, since you're about up, and if you have to leave, i'll take it...

THK - i think the point is that you KNOW we're in a draft, and it seems like you could check in ONCE during a six hour period. people get frustrated fast when the same person takes 6 hours more than once, and you did get a call yesterday. i've been in enough drafts with you over the years to know you'd feel the same way.

This is ridiculous. My call the other day and I made the pick as soon as I could get to the computer. The time I was skipped I recieved no call. Now Toral calls. Look, if you want to boot me do it now; because I am not staying in this damn league if a simple explanation BEFORE the draft began can't be accepted. Why in the world would I leave my number if I thought I could make each pick? Guys, I am sorry but I actually have some outside of this league to worry about at this point...and it happens to be fairly important. Let me know ASAP...this is ridiculous. I was skipped and wasn't called...Sure I would be upset as well; however, the problem was well explained and prepared for. I will check tonight..

Hey man, you told us you would be out of pocket during your trip Thursday and Friday. No mention was ever made for us to continue calling you. Otherwise, I would have called you. You made a pick on Saturday without a call.

Refer to post #128 and Holt's request last night to let us know what was happening.

i'm at my bro's house right now. kinda hard to take care of this at the moment.

mjd - if you have your pick ready go ahead and e-mail it to me. when i get home, if thk hasn't made his picks then I'll assume he has quit the league and we will find a replacement and get the team's picks caught up, and I will enter mjd's pick if he is not around.

thk - seriously, it's not our responsibility to make phone calls. if someone does it it's a courtesy. there are also things like queues or just plain checking in from time to time.

I have extra minutes and I'm around alot. If you (THK) still need to be called, I'll be happy to do it.

But clear communication is needed so that everyone knows what is going on.

Please pick, I'll be up for a couple more hours, but I'm not available to pick until after 10 AM tomorrow and people are available to pick before 10 AM.

I have only one pick that I want to make at this point, given the direction that this draft has taken. If THK takes this pick, I will need to come up with a "plan B".

Actually, this pick is plan B. I'll need to come up with a plan C.

I suggest before we move the draft any further along we determine if THK is in or out. If he is quitting the league, I further suggest we let the new manager get caught up on picks before we go any further.

It doesn't make any sense why he would ask in this forum at 8:20 PM EST if he was skipped without checking Kafenatid and making his pick. At the time he posted, only Larry Johnson and Julius Peppers had been picked since his missed pick. Three hours later, a total of ten picks have been made and we are back to him. It's been 10 1/2 hours since his original turn came up and still no picks.

Guys, I am sorry but I actually have some outside of this league to worry about at this point...and it happens to be fairly important

I think we all can say the same thing. Every day of my life I have something more important going on than fantasy sports. If you don't have the time to manage a team and show courtesy to fellow managers, you shouldn't commit to joining a league.

Tree, I didn't delete post 204 because we are not up to rationales for Driver and Faulk. Once we are and I move them over, we can get rid of it. Nice grab on Faulk, by the way. I think he has plenty left in the tank and we will see some big games from him this year.

If there are placeholders in the rationale thread, I will insert any rationale from this thread. I am not going to say another word about placeholders, other than I am done creating more than one or two placeholders when it is my turn. If the majority of managers aren't interested in posting them in order (or at all), maybe we should just post them in that thread regardless of order. I do enjoy reading them in order, but I think the commish needs to decide how he wants to do it.

THK, I'll call you when it's your pick if I'm around and I'm around most of the time.
