0 Subject: RIFC AAA # 2 Draft Rationales

Posted by: Tree
- Sustainer [599393013] Wed, Aug 17, 2005, 09:58

This thread will be for managers in RIFC AAA #2 to provide the rationale for each pick.

Here are the ground rules:
1. Only managers in this league should post here. If you want to provide feedback (either from other league managers, or from those not in the league), put it in the discussion thread. (Non-conforming discussion in this thread will be deleted.)

2. Try to keep the pick rationales in the same order as the draft. We'll attempt to keep this thread 2 rounds behind the actual draft. With the lag, most comments should not have an impact on the draft in progress. However, if there are aspects of your pick that you feel need to be kept under wraps, feel free to protect that information. In particular, please avoid mentioning the names of any players who are still undrafted at that time of the post.

Please post your comments at the time you make your pick. For example, you should post your comments for your round 1 pick when you make your round 3 selection. If you are not ready to post at that time, then, create a "placeholder" so that the next person is able to go ahead in sequence. When your post is ready, simply post it in the draft discussion thread and a moderator can copy it over.

If your rationale is due and intervening placeholders have not been inserted, please insert them before posting your rationale.

3. Once the draft is over, each manager is also encouraged to provide a general draft recap, at which time you can discuss your overall strategy, mention any undisclosed factors, comment on what worked out well and what didn't, etc.

The general format should be:
1.01 Jim Brown, RB, CLE
Several sentences of rationale

To me this was a no brainer. He is the number 1 offensive weapon in the league in my opinion. Barring injury (knock on wood) I dont see any way he doesnt get 2000 yards this season between rushing and recieving. He should also score atleast 16 TDs. I jumped on the number 1 pick this season because I wanted LT that badly.

1.02 Shaun Alexander, RB, SEA

Choosing to draft #2 instead of late in first round was deciding between Shaun Alexander and a WR... or 2 good RB... Last year i had Dillon and Barlow when i picked #13 (2 guys that need to prover things)... So i figured this year i would go with studs instead. I guess that with S.A. and Marvin Harrisson as my first 2 picks, it is as stud as it can be.

And for those who noticed it, i did too... noticed what? I'm not telling :)

It came down to Priest or the Edge. I think Priest is really going to start breaking down but Edge still seems primed for a big year. With XXXXXX gimpy and Harrison slowing down, I really think that James will be relied upon more to move the ball. He is a fantastic receiver and a workhouse running the ball. I think he is the best all-around player in football.

Obviously this was a no-brainer here. I wonder if people realize there are no prizes for this league? No harm in taking a big risk/reward guy here. If the guy goes down or plays only 9-12 games worth of snaps all hope isn't lost as evidenced by my poli16 championship last year.

Very suprised to see Peyton Manning go this early in a 4/TD league. Very low value there IMO.

0.01 #7 Draft Position

I actually never considered choosing the #1 pick. In my short fantasy sports career, my best teams have drafted in the middle. I also wanted to see a few specific players removed from the board before I picked.
- LT or Shaun certainly would be nice to have, but I didn't like the idea of waiting over 25 picks until my next one. IMO, picking mid draft should give me better balance.
- Edge will get his yards, but Peyton Manning calls his own plays and he likes to pass once they get near the red zone. Not that I blame him.
- 4 points for a passing TD and 6 points for all others, eliminates a QB as my 1st round pick.
- I felt like choosing Priest was too risky for my comfort level. However, if I thought that he would still be there at #5, I'd have chosen the 5th pick for sure.
- All that being said, I would have picked any of those guys, had they fallen to me.

1.07 Willis MaGahee, RB, BUF

My fifth rated back and the one I feel who has the most upside. He will certainly will get ample opportunity. He should be among the league leaders in touches per game.
With their 2nd year QB, the Bills will rely heavily on the running game, to keep the pressure off the kid.
The only downside might be that team's defenses will be keying on him. But so far, no one has stopped him consistantly.

I had to take a RB. 2100 total yards and 15 td's last year. Hasn't missed a game in 3 seasons. Why not?

I remember considering D.Davis but there are just too many games where he doesn't get enough touches. I also looked at Portis but I'm not impressed with his yards per carry or td's last year. He put on 20 pounds, but I don't know if that makes up for the fact that he's a Redskin.

i felt he was the best RB available. it's that simple. i wrestled between him and Julius Jones, but Jones not playing a full season yet led me to Portis. man, i still can't believe i took a Redskin over a Cowboy.

1.10 Domanick Davis, RB, HOU

I picked the 10th spot because I wanted two solid running backs with my first two picks. Davis was my 7th ranked RB and the other 6 were already gone. If he can reproduce last years stats, almost 1800 yards rushing and receiving and 14 TD's, I will be glad I drafted him.

0.05 #11 Draft Position

Ordinarily I would select a pick at the end of my first tier of players, which this year would be #5, or since Culdeus took that, #4. But this year I am not enamoured of the top tier of players. They deserve to be there, but there are reasons why I'm just as soon steer clear of them. I decided I'd rather grab 2 very good RBs from a lower slot. My calculation was that I needed something like slot 10, 11, or 12 to ensure I could do that. Couldn't make up my mind so I took the middle number.

1.11 Kevin Jones, RB, Det

Jones was super over the last half of 2004, gaining 113 YPG at 5.3 yards per attempt. That's a possible big breakout sign for a young RB. Jones is athletic with great speed and even a bit of a power burst. He might very well be as good all year this year as he was in the second half. TDs are a concern, but if he's that good he'll rack some up. He doesn't have the problem some burners have of potentially being removed at the goal line. Let's be optimistic and call him for 1700 total yards and 12 TDs.

I also considered Jamal Lewis and Julius Jones, the next 2 backs selected, but went with the big potential.

I selected the 12th spot so I can insure my team 2 RB's that should put up above average numbers and aren't a bad game away from losing their job. Jones has some solid upside and many are predicting a breakout season.

1.14 Corey Dillon, RB, NWE

Corey finally got out of then dreadful Cincinnati and rewarded the Pats with a very nice season. He likes where he's at and proved last year that he can be motivated under a winning team. Injuries are always a concern with RBs, but Dillon has been pretty durable. I look for Corey to put together another productive year.

2.01 Ahman Green, RB, GNB

My goal with my first two picks was to get two solid RBs to build around. I feel like I've done that with Green and Dillon. Not too long ago, Green was top 5. I'm not necessarily saying he's still worth that, but I love him at #15 overall. Green runs with great balance and has been very consistent the last 5 years. Fumbles are a concern, but I'll take my chances. .

No rationale necessary on my draft pick selection ;-) but I will say that I was happy to draft where I did. I was able to get two solid RBs.

2.04 Curtis Martin, RB, NYJ

CMart is being dissed incredibly this year because he's 32 years old despite a 1700+ yard, 14 TD campaign last year. Yes, he's 32 years old, but he hasn't missed a game due to injury since 1998. His longest run last year was 25 yards -- meaning to me that he doesn't have to worry about a loss of speed costing him his 70 yard runs because he doesn't get those anyway. With Blaylock backing him up he'll be in at the goal line. I figure 1300 total yards, 7 TD as a minimum, with an upside.

I dissed Martin for years myself, saying that he was no good and too old. Never had him on a team before. If he collapses this year, it will be my punishment.

I am hoping for 1500 combined rushing/receiving yards and 10 TD's. Oh wait, that's what he did last year in 13 games. Worse case I am thinking a repeat from last year. Best case, he stays healthy, plays 16 games and out-performs 2004.

Thankfully he was still available. He was definitely the QB I wanted to be starting this season. Mcnabb would have been ok but I think the Philly defense keeps his numbers down a bit, and the Viking defense has traditionally boosted Culpepper's.

There was no other player for me to consider. I saw that he was still on the board and I typed his name right in there.

Brown wins the starting job here by default and with a 4 week head start, should keep it. I think that he is the best back in this rookie class. He's a big guy with power and speed. He's got depedable hands as a reciever and I'm counting on some YAC.

Others considered were Dunn, Bell, and Lamont Jordan.

Well, I guess I buy the fact that OAK will have a decent offense this year. Jordan seems to be the all-hype back ala Bennet last year. I'm a bit worried about him being the second coming of Wheatley. However, it was between him and Bell and I didn't want to get into the habit of worrying what Den might do at RB all season.

2.12 Warrick Dunn, RB, ATL

One of the highly underrated backs in the NFL. The impending changing of the guard that so many people have talked about in Atlanta has not, and will not happen. XXXXXXX will not steal Dunn's carries and 1500 total yards is attainable. I must admit, I didn't realize that I had hit the same bye week with both of my backs because I was taking who I thought was the best back left on the board. I have another runner tagged to fill the bye week so I do not regret grabbing Warrick as a strong value pick at what seemed to be the end of the strong push to grab starting backs.

As stated at 1.02, i wanted a stud WR as my second pick since no RB i wanted made it to me... i kinda hoped for a second that Lamont Jordan would slip, but i guess that was too much ask. But having Harrisson to anchor my WRs is really comforting... I don't expect another 15 td, but 12 TD and 1200 Yds would enought for me.

I almost took Trent Green with this pick, but when I saw CJ available I had to go with the impact player when available. I really thought Green might slide back to me in round 4 and I was 1 pick away from getting him. I think CJ will put up some huge numbers this season and could be an absolute steal in the 3rd round.

3.01 Torry Holt, WR, STL

In my opinion not only the best WR available, but the best overall player as well. There was no question in my mind if Holt was there with this pick I would be taking him. I though there might be a chance at both Holt and Harrison, but Harrison went 1 pick before me.

A bit of a stretch here, i absolutly wanted my 2nd RB to be taken here... Not much choice worthy of th 3.02 pick was on the board IMHO... I had Cadillac, Taylor, Barlow and **** on my list. I finnaly settled with JJ because of his situation as clear #1... also the fact that he apparently can catch and obviously the improve offense should decoy some plays... I will need to get another starting RB to cover if this one is a bust!

3.03 Andre Johnson, WR, HOU

This could arguably be named the first reach of the draft. It occurs to me now that I may have been able to grab Johnson with my 4th round pick. Joe Horn may have been the more obvious choice, however I was planning on taking Aaron Brooks as my QB and I didn't want to double up too many bye weeks at important positions. Johnson has all the tools and is primed for a breakout year, which is why I didn't mind taking him early. I was hoping Chad Johnson would fall but I see Andre Johnson as this year's Chad Johnson. We all know about the "3rd year receiver" phenomenon and if you look at CJ's first 2 seasons prior to his big 3rd year, they are strikingly similar to those of Andre's. Only difference is that Andre has a higher ceiling, as he is pacing 3 years ahead of Chad.

I needed a WR here and with Wiggs going WR/WR on the turn I was definately going to be in the "second tier" grouping. With the way the first two rounds shook out I really thought I had a shot at Holt. Oh well. Wayne should benefit from Stokely's injury which could really nag a WR. The lack of information out of Indy can't be good for Stokely. I'm expecting roughly 2004 performance from Wayne with Stokely playing maybe 10-15%+ without.

Having secured a couple of RB's with my 1st 2 picks, I turn my attention to WR. So far, this draft is pretty much unfolding as I anticipated and I'm still able to follow my pre draft plans. I debated Walker and D Jackson, but I felt like Horn was the most consistant of the three. I also like the fact that he played last year despite an elbow injury. He's probably lost a step, but he's experienced and continues to put up numbers despite his histrionics.

I waited to get a TE until very late in the RIFC last year and never got consistant points from that position. I figured Gonzo would be available near the bottom of the third round and unless a top player dropped to my position, I planned on getting him if he was available. As it got closer to my turn, I had McNabb and Horn on a short list of players available who I would draft before Gonzo, but they were both scooped up. I have half-a-dozen WR remaining ranked before Gonzo, but I believe I can get one of them on the turn. The drop-off from Gonzo to the 5th best TE was equivalent to the drop-off from my 7th ranked WR, who is still on the board, and my 33rd ranked WR.

I don't like Javon Walker; I think he is overrated, doesn't have the speed that some think he has; I had him a big negative arrow on my draft list this year. Still, I've been wrong before.

However he's a top 5 or 6 receiver on many lists. He goes way before 3.11 in most drafts. Favre will throw TDs to someone. Tremendous value for this pick.

My original plan was to wait until the 6th or 7th round and pick up 2 of the relatively indistinguishable quarterbacks in the 10-16 range. There was one guy for whom I was willing to depart from that plan if he was available here: Bulger. Bulger gets wide variances in opinion here as I've seen him rated anywahere from #2 in the NFC to #9 or so in the league. He'll put up the yardage; the question with Bulger is whether the 21/22 TDs he has put up can be exceeded or whether that mediocre total is dictated by Martz's offensive red zone tendencies. Maybe I was seduced by the "greatest show on turf" hype but I in the end I went for the predictability; I wasn't all that thrilled about taking two guys with short track records later.

Either Ward or Burleson, who went in the next 2 picks, would have been my choice had I balked at Bulger.

Johnson may have been a reach but I think I made up for it with this selection. Boldin is a stud and he should have a more consistant passer to work with which should keep his numbers from sliding. I think this season with Onterio Smith out of the picture Bennett will get the majority of the carries and with his speed he is bound to break atleast one long TD run a game. As long as Moore doesnt steal any of his carries I will be expecting huge things from bennett.

I really wanted Trent green here and I thought I had a real good shot at getting him. When he went one pick before me I needed to regroup. I wasnt to sure about collins but I figure someone needs to throw the ball to moss and porter therefore his numbers should be pretty solid barring injury.

As stated I had Michael Bennett targeted here, but since i stole Green from Wiggs, he had to steal Bennett from me… i guess… Oh well, i thought i should grab one of the next tier of WR… Evans, Lelie, Porter, ***… all worthy IMHO… But decided to grab the miami dude... out of blinded faith.... I was fearing a run on QBs and I wanted to grab "my guy". Brooks is the picture of consistancy and though he has been critized for some "off" years, his numbers have been steady throughout his tenure with the Saints. Imagine what this guy could do when he is "on". A simplified game plan brought in by a new coordinator should improve the overall effectiveness of the offense and hopefully spark Brooks on the course to his first truly studly campaign.

Booyeah! 4/6 split for TDs really brings Vick's value up in this system. I love it when people get sucked into raw TD numbers and overlook the passing+running TD count. Coupled with rush yards I'd say Vick was the 5th QB in this system. Had he not been here I'd have gone with another WR and waited on a bottom 2nd tier QB. I definately anticipate a massive run on QB prior to my next pick. I really like how my team is taking shape.

5.07 Brett Farve, QB, GB

It's nice to see a draft go almost exactly as I envisioned to this point. I really did not want to pick a QB until I picked 2 RB and 2 WR.

Brett's getting a little long in the tooth and this might be his last year. He has been durable. The thing I like most about him is that with their defense, Green Bay will need Farve to throw for 4000 yards and 30 TDs to have a shot of the playoffs. I'm hoping that he has a good enough year to want to come back again next year.

I tried to talk myself into picking Carson Palmer, but I couldn't pass on the future Hall of Famer.

I'm a rams fan. Bruce is awesome.
glad to have him on my team and I consider him a bargain midway through the 5th. 1300 yards last season. he always put up at least 1000, and he's good for a few TD's.

I had no plan B. was just crossing my fingers that he'd get to me.

I had debated whether or not to pick up the Baltimore Defense with my 4th round pick. They were close to the top of my list then and I did not think they were going to make it back to me based on where they were going in similar drafts. Defense was another position that I struggled to get consistant points from last year and one I wanted to address early. I am feeling very good about locking up the number one defense.

5.11 Chris Brown, WR, Ten

Expecting to look for a WR here but Chris Brown was too much value to pass up here. The battle between Brown and Henry will likely be settled at the trainer's table and in the doctor's office but a 50/50 or better chance at a feature back was worth it here. As a Bills fan I know it's not a good thing when Travis Henry complains of "mild turf toe". I also gave lots of consideration to Cedric Benson but the holdout and doubts about the Bears offence generally sent me in the other direction. Benson went 2 picks later; my next WR choice, Lelie, went 2 picks after that.

Brown was going to be my pick but Toral snatched him up. I'm not a big fan of having a QB and starting RB from the same team but I'll take the chance of losing one week in order to get Palmer. He's got tons of options and Rudi Johnson will force teams to not throw out there 6-7 DB's against Cincy.

I wanted one of the top 7 tight ends as I rated them. Crumpler is the Falcons' most reliable receiver, which gives his value a bit of protection in my mind in that he should catch more than his share of any TD passes Vick manages to throw. The other option I weighed was to select Derrick Mason here and pick up Clark or McMichael in round 7, but I felt I could find a WR close to Mason in value if he was gone by my next pick.

I had a couple players identifed that I wanted to get in this spot, but was leaning towards getting a WR. Twenty-seven receivers had been drafted up to this point. I was concerned that if I didn't grab my 2nd starter I would be way behind the power-curve on WR points if another 8 or 9 went before my next pick. Jimmy Smith was good for me last year. Heck, Jimmy has been good to me every year I have owned him. He has stayed healthy over his career and has been a consistant 1000+ yard receiver over the past 9 years, minus 03 with the 4-game suspension. He was still on pace to break 1000 yards in his 12-game shortened season. Jimmy is another year older, but you know what he is capable of and IMO he is a low-risk pick. I seriously considered Ray Lewis's in this spot. I had my #1 TE, my #1 Defense, and liked the idea of adding my #1 LB, but couldn't afford to wait 17 more picks to get another receiver.

he'll miss a game or two but I probably wouldn't have started him anyway. he's their #1 RB so I couldn't pass him up in the 6th rd. I'm hoping that Barlow succeeds this year and I don't have to rely on Staley. Duce gets the yards but not enough TD opportunities to make much impact. that being said, if The Bus breaks down then Duce's stock goes up and I'd start him over Barlow. there's always a chance that willie parker explodes onto the scene and takes the job away. we'll see. As was mentioned in earlier discussion, both of my backs shared a bye date. I was planning on grabbing Thomas Jones as my RB3 but this plan was sabotaged by a beastie in the early stages of this round. I was faced with a dilemna -- the running back pickins were slim but a large risk/reward candidate loomed. I decide to take a chance. I will miss a few weeks of production but he should be running at full steam by the time my bye weeks come around. Running back depth is key in this league and I will take the hit of being without him for the first few weeks to ensure a strong group of running backs down the stretch. Could be excellent trade bait as well.

Ok, first i was in a rush… as my 2 man Q i had ready was shattered to pieces… Eddie Kennison and Larry Jonhson were taken right before my pick… I had to go… i had to choose cause next person had to go.. Bla bla bla… To make a long story short, i wanted a 3rd RB and Moore was on the top of my list. JJ Arrington (my 2nd RB) is not such a sure bet and probably will need few games to adjust and i wanted a RB that would be a starter at beginning of the season. Now with the news that Michael Bennett might be out for the opener let me hope that he might be injured all year long. Since Wiggs had next 2 picks, and he was the owner of M.B. i thought the chance of him grabbing M.M. was high, so i just didnt wanted that to happen. I realize this is a reach at 6.13, maybe a round early... On the other side, i'm confident that by season end MM will have more fantasy point than MB. He should be the teams Punt and Kickoff returner and that's just another one of his upsides... I think that like last year, whoever is MIN's RB gonna have good results... Hopefully this is going to be Mewelde Moore until JJ Arrington turns out to be a stud! Amen...

There are not many team that you can start without choosing opponent. IMHO New England is one of the 2… Not having to worry about match-up and having a constant production from your defense is sure nice. Of course, every week i will consider taking a team off F/A if a better match-up appears, but i just wanted a stud defense here. Last year i had to switch between MIA, ARI and SF all year i almost never picked the good choice. But seriously, the main reason why i picked NE's DEF... is that i get to see all their game on tv :)... and since i couldn't get either Branch or Dillon to cheer for, i decided to jump and grab the whole freakin team.

As I said in my previous rationale, RB depth is key. To be honest, I saw nothing jumping out at me that I thought I needed to take with this pick. I had a WR pegged for the 8th round, who I subsequently landed and I wasn't going to be the first mover into the IDP arena. Henry has great upside with the fragility of Chris Brown and is an excellent red zone runner which could mean good vulture points. Could also be traded down the line. Puts my backfield in excellent shape heading into the middle of the draft.

I started typing up this rationale 3 picks before it got to me. Every team has their starting QB except for me and Peter, who picks after I do. I am thinking that by the time the 9th round gets to me, some teams might have gotten it into their head that they need their back-up QB. I want to grab my 3rd WR at this point also, but I know I am not going to be a happy camper if Brady and the three other QB's I wouldn't mind having as my starter are all drafted before it comes back to me. I didn't want to gamble at this important position and I feel like Brady is good value in the 7th round.

Time for a 3rd WR and to finish with the skill positions. Rod Smith is to Ashley Lelie as Eric Moulds, my round 7 pick, is to Lee Evans. There's divergent opinion about whether to expect growth or regression from Lelie this year but Rod will be a consistent reliable producer.

I didn't expect Toral to grab two receivers in a row with week 9 byes, and I didn't want to "settle" for a lower ranked receiver, so I switched gears and went with The Bus. In hindsight, I am happier with this pick than when I originally made it. DD has a week 3 bye, Duce is beat-up (nothing new), and Jerome was the last remaining starter without any serious question marks heading into the season. I do expect him to lose carries after Duce gets healthy, but hopefully he can provide some scoring when I need to plug him into the line-up.

He is the backup to Curtis Martin. Martin surprized alot of people last year, but I have to believe that age and workload are going to finally catch up to him this year. Blaylock proved himself to be a very capable starter after Priest Holms went down last year. While I don't expect him to start, I do expect him to get enough touches per game to warrent my pick as my 3rd RB.

Had I chosen a higher draft position to get Priest, I'd have to handcuff Larry Johnson with a higher pick, as was done in this draft. And therefore, have 2 RB with the same bye week. Although I still contend that had I known he would drop to the 5th overall pick, I would have picked the number 5 hole.

9.10 Jonathan Vilma, LB, NYJ

This guy was hyped before his rookie season and he was one of the few hyped players to perform as good or better than expected. I am hoping as the Jets defense has improved so will his performance for this season. My expectation is that he finishes the season as a top ten LB. Being that he was the 5th LB taken, anything less would be a disappointment.

I wanted someone like Pennington or Delhomme here as my backup and just grabbed Pennington. It retrospect I might have taken McNair over either of them. I probably should have grabbed Reuben Droughns here and taken whichever was left over with the next pick >

Something about my Bulger pick I didn't want to mention at the time -- Bulger has 2 home games during weeks 13-16 plus a game under the dome in Minnesota. I wanted a QB with a good playoff schedule.

I still need a WR, PK, DB, DL, and Flex IDP. I didn't take my cheat sheets to work and only brought a short list of players I was thinking about. The draft has been moving slow so I didn't really expect to pick until I got home. Most of the players left on my list are linebackers. My cheat sheets have Barnett and Peterson ranked above Brooks, but I decided to go with a guy who I enjoy watching and who has been a great player his whole career. After a down year in 2003 Brooks was really low on most cheat sheets. He rewarded those who drafted him with his best season in the past 4 years. It would be nice to get 100+ solo tackles, some assists, and a few sacks. The TB defense is supposed to be improved which can only help Brooks numbers.

sometimes when you make a pick you have to triple check your numbers and you still have a hard time hitting the enter button. well, this wasn't one of those times. one of the best DB's in the league, PLUS he returns punts. last year he scored 160 points in our format. 2nd only to team-mate T.McGee. 79 tackles, 1 sack, 5 forced fumbles, 1 recovery, 6 INT's witha TD return, plus 35 punt returns(9.3 yard average and a TD).

10.08 Steve Mcnair, QB, TEN

A big risk/reward pick as a backup. But I think he has value as a spot starter. With Norm Chow stepping in as OC, I expect the Titan's game plan to include a passing game that moves the ball down the field.

I saw an interview with McNair on ESPN and he claims to be 100% healthy. Reports from camp also look good.

I think that this was a good place to get a back up QB. I was hoping that Warner or Pennington would fall to me, but no such luck. I also considered Jake Delhomme.

By now IDPs are falling off the board left and right and I'll snag one next if I think I can find value.

Having to start 1-2LBs this year meant the top ones might be at a premium. Also of the top LBs most of the ones in the top 10 that were left were "names" which gurupies tend to target before talented ones. I felt I needed to take at least one IDP here.

Nothing stood out as I felt most of my "needs" were covered. Determined to wait until the later rounds to grab IDPs that I felt were very undervalued. Cover my bye week with a solid, consistant passer. I wanted to strong QBs as an injury to your top man without a reliable backup is a huge blow to the entire season. Delhomme provides great security.

That was a really hard pick, i targeted many WR for this one, but none seem to fit when i looked at the BYE weeks… then i realized that McCardell was Brees #1 WR, and DEF will probably pay more attention to Gates this year so he could have few more chances to get the ball. Had Randle El, Keyshawn and Michael Jenkins in mind too...

Same reasoning as with McGee (8.13)… When i consider returning points potential, well, i had him ranked ahead of the remaining WR since round 9.08… i just picked the best guy on the board IMHO… Other player targeted here were RB back-ups that i could still pick-up later.... Or some mean DL... (I definitly got that mean DL in 13.02 Jason Taylor)

Keyshawn is still a very capable receiver and should benefit from Bledsoe's ability to get the ball downfield. Should provide a 1000 yard season with 5+ TDs. Nice addition to a strong and reliable receiving corps. No other options, had Keyshawn pegged around this point from Round 1

Again I nabbed two top 10 IDP talent well into the IDP rampage. I did have to be a little careful at this point because most of the backup QBRBWR were totally spare here meaning nearly all the next picks would be off-skills.

11.07 Dwight Freeney, DL, IND

Just noticed my typo. I'm enjoying my role as the underestimated new guy.

Anyhow, I saw Freeney here and I made him my first IDP. I thought he would have been picked by now, but looking at him a little closer I noted that while he has some nice sack numbers, he lacks numbers in tackles. I feel that IDP is a bit of a crapshoot and alot of those positions will be filled by FAs as the season progresses. I can see grabbing a DB who runs back kicks, but there are only a few of those players, and they have been off the board for some time now. Another downside of picking a stud DB, IMO, is that offenses tend to pass away from those guys.

I do like Freeney's role in the Indy D. The hope is that Payton puts the other team in a big hole early. 14 or 21-0. The Indy D can now concentrate on rushing the passer and not worry about the run as the other team abandons their running game and tries to play catch up by throwing the ball. This forces said team out of their game plan and induces mistakes - sacks and turnovers. So if Indy's plan works, Feeney will not get many tackles, but might lead the league in sacks. He's got the quickest 1st step of any DE out there.

I'm a Rams fan so I've been aware of this guy for quite a while. I think it's going to start coming together for him this year. he's not big but he's extremely fast and strong, runs good routes and has good hands. my prediction is that he'll end up with 2004-Stokely type numbers. I think the Rams will have better pass protection this year and a lot of defenses are going to get burned badly.

11.10 Michael Jenkins, WR, ATL

While watching the Falcons/Jaguars preseason game Thursday night, the announcers kept saying that Jenkins was the number one receiver for the Falcons and after watching him play, I believed them. He made some good catches and scored a couple TD's. Vick looked to him first when they were in the red-zone and I liked what I saw. I know there will be games where the Atlanta passing game is almost non-existant, but there are also going to be some big games for Jenkins. His bye week fits well with my other two receivers and I couldn't pass on the chance to grab him in the 11th round.

12.05 Indianapolis Defense

My starting defense, Baltimore, has a bye in week 3. I was looking at my strength of schedule chart and saw that Indy plays Cleveland in week three. Not only is that a great match-up, but I believe the Indy defense has continued to improve and see a couple more weeks where I might start them over Baltimore. I believe they will be a top ten defense in this scoring format.
