This is a little confusing to me also, I don't know who has priority after players are picked up? i noticed people making bids on players without an available contract also.
Somehow we need to stop, let Shak update the priority list and bids after each time deadline?
I'm new to this process and I've seen a few mistakes made by the veterans, so it must be confusing?

I am not sure how that would work either. Unless you can throw bids out there in case you get beat out in another. That doesn't seem particularly fair though.
Comments from the commish?
Sorry Tim, I just went with resigned by original owner was a 5-year contract. You did sign Clark to a four year contract.

This is from our bylaws. Basically if an owner doesn't have a 3,4,5 year bid then they can't throw one out. If they have at least 1 they can throw multiple bids out for that time frame. Once their 3,4,5 year contracts are used up then all bids that are currently out on RFAs for that time frame are voided.
c) Owners may place bids on more players than they have available contracts. Once an owner uses up his allotment of 5-, 4-, or 3-year contracts, all remaining bids for that length will be voided. For instance, if the Phish has just one 4-year contract available, he may place 4-year bids on several different players in hopes of getting one. If he is awarded a 4-year RFA, the remaining 4-year bids are voided. He must accept the first 4-year RFA he is awarded (based on bid deadline, then time of his bid). Owners may not make a bid if they do not have an available contract of that length.

Wow, you guys have been especially active this morning. Let me address the issues.
1) I was confused (happens often) when STB said match 2 year offer for E Johnson. Let's reserve the term "match" for owners that want to resign their RFA. Since EJ belonged to Trash and he did not "match", then Belly is awarded EJ due to pecking order.
2) I will update the pecking order and available contracts.
3) I will void bids made by owners that didn't have the slot available. Good catch.

Jimbo looks good. Shouldn't I be higher on the pecking order though? I was thinking I should be higher on the "pecking" order by now but I guess not.
We are really starting to see the weaker teams improve, which is the whole idea. I'm looking to make a trade or two to clear some cap space. Maybe Benson will NEVER sign and TJ will continue to be the starter :-)

Ed I think there has to be more than one bid for them to move down. So when an owner is going to get a player that is ahead of you, you can bid the same amount and make him win by a tie breaker and move down. If the player is won uncontested then they don't move. That's what I gather at least.
|

That's stupid. I thought If a person picked up a RFA then they automatically moved to the bottom, The only way it's didn't affect your pecking order was when you resigned a player?
So when I pick up a guy off of say the Waiverwire during free agency I should stay at the Top Of the list also...same principal.

e) If the original owner decides not to match, the raiding owner is awarded that player if his was the only winning bid. In event more than one owner puts in the same winning bid, the worst-tofirst priority system will be used. The lower seeded owner will win the player and be dropped to the bottom of the worst-tofirst priority list. Owners will not be dropped to the bottom if they had the only winning bid.

I don't understand the logic on if I'm the only bidder and i'm awarded the players, plus I get to keep my place in the pecking order? But get two people to make bids on a player and win you lose your place in the pecking order. Somebody explain the reasoning behind that?

Edneck, Those are the rules we have in place. We all reviewed the by laws, section by section. Your objection should have been voiced during the review. You will have a chance to change the rule next off season. For now, that is the system.

Ed, the reason the pecking order rule is the way it is, is to give even more help for the teams on the bottom. The key is for those teams to use this extra leverage. Before we went to a contract league, this league was a pure dynasty league and the best teams stayed great and the poor teams had a very hard time improving. We may have gone overboard in the other direction in trying to help the poor teams. Maybe this year will tell if you and Taco end up in the SuperBowl and RBP ends up with the number one pick next year.

For next years rules. I believe there is a serious flaw in someone posting an bid on a player that doesn't have a chance in winning the bid. The bid is placed just to ensure that person goes to the end of the draft. In my case, I placed the first bid on the bills and Edneck and Belly were lower on the pecking order. However, with their senseless bid, it placed me to the end of the pecking order. Lessoned learned...something to discuss next year.

I can't speak for Edneck, but I can assure you my bid was not made just to bump you down the pecking order. I have 17 players signed and don't have a defense. I have bid on every D that has been nominated. I placed my bid in the hope that you would move down the pecking order prior to the end of that bidding period.
The by-laws do state that "during the final 12 hours of bidding for each RFA, owners of lower ranking on the priority list may not place a matching bid for an RFA, if he has no chance of winning that bid." There is still at least one bidding period open prior the final 12 hours, where the pecking order could change.
The rule may be flawed and we can look at it next year. I suggest Reaper and Edneck try to come up with their proposals and we can vote on it next year.

I actually like Ednecks rules of once you get a RFA you go to the ottom of the barrel. I think this would be the fairest way to process pickups and still allow the lower ranked teams the opportunity of haviing first bid.
Please don't get me wrong, I'm just pointing out that those owners (RFA's)that are not bidded against get a freebee, while those that are bidded against (worthless bid or not) go to the bottom of the barrel.

I'll admit I bid on a few players just to show how easy it is to work the system, not nice, but I was a little frustrated with picking up a player and going to the bottom of the list and other people staying at the top soley because no one made a bid against them. I always seem to be the bad guy in every league, soley because I speak my mind when something just doesn't seem right, I'm sure I'm not the only player that felt that the rule was a little strange...I can hear half of you guys going here he goes again complaining about something. I'm paying a 100 dollars to play in this league...that's Momma's slot-playing money...

I have been bidding of late to make sure the winners move down. I had to do something to get out of 12th on the pecking order because I was losing every bid, just like it should be.
I have a powerhouse team and have lost my share of stud players, this system works. In the last few years I've lost E. James and the Ravens D, two starters that if you added to what I already have you'd see that I'd never lose. So while we may have some flaws the stronger teams have been weakend, making it easer for the bottom feeders to hang around with better chances of getting better sooner. My 2 cents. I'm getting killed in FA but I love it.

Ed, I think the point that you and Reaper are making holds some water, but it is very minor IMO. Is it really important if you move to the bottom every time you pick up a RFA or just when you pick up a highly sought after RFA? If we change the rule, all your doing is helping the better teams that can't easily move up to nab a valuable RFA. If we had the rule this year, Scott and Tim would have nominated lesser RFAs in the beginning hoping to move up the pecking order to snag some of the better RFAs. Meaning, the better owners will always work the system to their advantage. I think the current system has allowed you, Reaper, and me to improve our team much more than Scott, which was the intent.
What is more disturbing is that it seems like less than half the teams are taking advantage of the RFAs to really improve their teams, while the other half is getting raped. I'm like a kid in a candy store and wish I could keep spending. I see some teams that have 10 players on contract and 25 years to spend. My question is when do they expect to spend it? In the draft, on some unknown rookies? I guess as a commish, I want to see a competitive league top to bottom and I'm seeing the haves and have nots. I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it.

Jim, since you have Suggs, I may as well be honest. I was pissed at the time because "I" didn't fully understand all the senarios with the pecking order (refer to previous post). So I made a useless bid for Droughns (as not to give in for the tax)...just match you bid so you would go to the end of the pecking order. I have seen the errors of my ways and will give up any bid for Droughns to keep the integrity of the league. Bottom line...it would not be right for me to claim Drouhns by being sneaky and screw you over.

If you know you won't be keeping any of your unsigned RFAs, let me know so I can clean up your roster.

If you want to resign your own RFAs, you must sign them to a minimum 2+1 contract. If you release them and draft them, you may then sign them to a 1 year non-guaranteed contract.

Reaper,
You have to resign your own RFAs to a 2+1 or longer contract. It's in section 9.04h of the rules.
Shak, I'm not resigning any of my RFA's, and my roster has been cleaned up.
