Youngroman...

I didn't give you any special powers, but I really don't see why everyone else can't as well. I will have to review everyone's rosters, but that would be easier than me entering everyone's team.

If others want to do the same, feel free. It might help people unfamiliar with Fanball get oriented with the site as well.

That being said, I will do my best to update rosters this weekend. I meant to do it last weekend.

I am probably going a little senile but I can not read in the rules

I posted on the football forum thread with the link to see about getting it updated. I hadn't noticed it until CC pointed it out, but he's right - it didn't say anything about it. I hate that it affected other manager's picks - hopefully no one shot themselves in the foot too badly as a result.

We're into the last 5 rounds so here's some numbers on the draft so far:

Current status: 230 picks made in 17 days, 68 picks remaining.

Speed: 13.5 picks per day
M-F speed: 14.8 picks per day (193 in 13 days)
Weekend speed: 9.25 picks per day (37 in 4 days)

At the current rate, we should be done by around 7pm EDT on Thursday. Nice job of keeping it moving - let's keep it going.

Kyle...

See this thread. Promize has his own web page which he publishes that to. I am assuming it is an excel file, in which case, you can post it in a thread by following the directions here.

http://rotoguru1.com/cgi-bin/mb/comp/37.shtml?1088527144

However, I would post it in its own thread as it will make a discussion thread almost unreadable.

Rationales 12.02, 12.14, 13.01, 13.11, 13.12, 13.13, 14.03. & 14.04 have been moved to the Rationale thread and deleted from this one.

If everyone could please make sure and put the "placeholder" mark under the Pick number and skip a line when when making a Placeholder for someone, it would be appreciated.

To insert the HTML text to create a blank line in the editor, we have to type it in and it's like - (!---|abreak|--->(br<)!---|abreak|---) every time you want a blank line. (I changed a couple of the characters to get them to show up or it'd be a blank line) lol

Thanks again.

Only about half of the league appears to have any interest left in the rationales. I am proposing that after we complete round 14 in the rationales, everyone composes a draft summary.

Any objections?

15.12 Matt Stover, PK, Bal

I was planning on going WR here but changed my mind when I saw Stover still here. I had him fourth on my board so I figured I'd take him while he was still there. The PK run I expected didn't materialize so I might have been able to wait, but I didn't see a good reason to risk it at the time.

Planning ahead, since we are nearing the end of the draft. As you may recall...
"at the end of the draft, all undrafted players are placed on waivers for 2 days, during which time waiver claims can be submitted. The priority order for preseason waiver claims is the reverse of the random draw for selecting draft order."
Thus the priority order for post draft waiver claims will be:

1 Stl Cards
2 pancho villa
3 loki
4 beezer
5 trip
6 coldwater coyotes
7 slowhand
8 promize
9 valkyrie
10 perm dude
11 deepsnapper
12 wolfer
13 youngroman
14 bags

The Fanball system will not adminster this process, so we will need to do it manually.

The 48 hour waiver period will not begin until all rosters have been filled at Fanball. I will announce when this period starts. At that time, all add/drop roster transactions will be temporarily frozen. If you wish to place a waiver claim for an undrafted player, you will need to submit your claim to me via email.

Draft Rationale

10.07 Marshall Faulk,RB, StL.

I may have waited a bit too long to get a back-up running back; but a couple of years ago this guy was on the top of everyone's draft list.I think he'll still get a few carries and if Jackson gets injured while he won't approach his numbers of a few years ago should still do well.

Draft Rationale

11.08 L.J.Smith, TE, Phi.

My last skill position to fill.I had Smith at the top of my third tier of tight ends and felt if I waited there could be a drop off in talent;but truthfully other than Gonzales,Gates and maybe Heap I think any of the next 10 tight ends will be very close in production.

Draft Rationale

12.07 Braylon Edwards, WR, Cle.

I drafted Edwards moments after I heard the Browns traded Andre Davis to the Pats for draft picks. This assured Edwards of a starting role.I was happy to get a starting WR this late in the draft but with the Brown's anemic offense, and Dilfer at QB I'm not sure he'll start vey often on my team.

Draft Rationale

13.08 Ronde Barber, DB, TB

Needed to start building my defense. Last year I waited for my final picks to get my defesive players and I think it hurt my team. Barber is still one of the top backs on a defense that will spend alot of time on the field.

To the commish of this league

What setting do you have kick returns on.

I am commishing the AA league and I only see 3 options for kick returns.

Offensive Player gets the points
Team Defense gets the points
Offensive Player and Team Defense gets the points

Which setting credits points to IDP's for returns?

Thank you

Offensive Player gets the points.

The general understanding is that offensive players includes IDPs. The other settings will award points to team defenses as well.

The DL/LB issue with Damarcus Ware is being discussed in the RIFC discussion thread in the Football Forum. It is worth following if we plan on keeping our rules the same as RIFC.

Trip-The rules indicate that there is a minimum number of players that must start at a position. Bearing that in mind, is a roster valid if the starter has a bye? I assume that it would be valid, but would like clarification. Thanks.

I think we have a different situation than found in RIFC. In RIFC, Ware was drafted as a DL and was designated as such in the pick. He was put into the lineup as a DL before the eligibility change. In RIFC AAA#1, Ware was drafted as a LB and designated as such. Ware is not currently in Deepsnapper's lineup and he does have a DL in his starting lineup.

Maybe Roy drafted him as a DL, and following the RIFC is fine with me, but what if Roy really drafted him as a LB a to begin with? Seems like a lot of extra work and chance for errors by altering the configuration and manually tracking lineups for screwups each week if the position eligibility doesn't effect Deepsnapper to begin with. I can't answer that question, but thought it worth bringing up anyway.

Ware will be LB eligible only then. He wasn't ever put into deepsnappers lineup as a DL or LB and is on the bench anyways.

Loki (98) as long as there is a player in the position (regardless of bye week) the lineup would be valid.

the season hasn't even started for all teams and I already suffered my first loss: I will have no tv-coverage this year. all I got is yesterdays opener and that's it. nasn.de hot the rights and is showing a minimum of 4 games every weekend but is only available in a few local cable's in Germany and some other countries in central europe, Austria not included. Thanks NFL, I'm officially pissed!

with that said I have to rely fully on the internet to get information what's really happening. no NFL blast, no NFL films, no weekly summaries of the games. Aahhhhhhrgllllll!!!!!!

with this handicap I would be surprised if I would win it all.

Guru posted a list of scores at fanball for Thursday's game. I compared the list and found a couple of discrepancies. Maybe they are just transitory things, or maybe something else, but we should keep an eye on them.

Kevin Faulk 3.90 (aol) vs 4.58 (fan) seems that AOL hasn't added in the kick return yds. correctly.

Chris Carr 7.50 (aol) vs 7.54 (fan), seems to be a 1 yd kick return difference, although the raw stats listed at aol match those at Fanball

Tim Dwight 10.5 (aol) vs 10.9 (fan), punt return problem

Ellis Hobbs 1.00 (aol) vs 1.48 (fan)

Here is the problem. For whatever reason AOL isn't using fractions for kick and punt return yds. They are rounding off. If you include the fractional points for all these players then AOL would match.

Other scoring changes rippled through today, so maybe this one will too?

Note from Fanball (Whom AOL is using as their service). I hate AOL too, but c'mon, it's free. You saw how hard it was to get the league filled before it became free. Any suggestions on another commissioner service?

Fanball is very aware of the specific problems users had with Commissioner Live Scoring during Thursday's game, and again this weekend. We are now confident that all of these issues have been resolved, and ask that you use tonight's game as proof that we have made the needed corrections. To regain your confidence, we are pushing back the pay date for Fanball Commissioners to 9/28, which will allow an additional week to determine if Fanball Commissioner is the correct solution for your league.

On behalf of the entire Fanball team, I would like to convey to you our sincerest apology for any inconvenience you may have experienced with respect to Live Scoring and Commissioner. We continue to be committed to providing all of our customers with the highest standards of service in the industry, and are confident that you'll be extremely satisfied with our application moving forward.

Rob Phythian
President, Fanball

ESPN had similar (worse?) problems as AOL. I refuse to play in Yahoo! leagues, so I can't comment on how they went. Players will be available for sorting shortly. If the window is too short for you, we can consider changing the process time to Thursday.

If you have any questions on how submit a free agent claim, please let me know. Tomorrow at 1 PM is not the time to be asking questions.
You can peruse the free agent list and sort them however you like by clicking on Players->Free Agents or Players ->Player Listing and Stats.

There are three ways to drop/add players.

1. Drop/Add Players - This is to drop/add players when the after the weekly claiming process has gone through. During the regular season, league members are allowed to make their own free agent acquisitions:
Weekly starting Wednesday 01:00p EST and players lock 5 minutes before kickoff of their game

2. Free Agent Claim - This is the first chance to claim a player after the previous week's games. It is based on the waiver priorities as described in the rules. Free Agent Claims must be submitted by Wednesday at 12:00p EST every week. The Free Agent Claim priority criteria is the same as the waiver wire priority (listed below).

3. Waiver Wire - This is the first chance to claim players who have been dropped by the Free Agent Claim Process. Waivers
Requests made for players on the waiver wire are awarded to the highest ranking team. Team rankings are established each Tuesday morning. Your league is set to rank teams using the following criteria:

First Criteria: Worst to First, Win % (Last Week)
Second Criteria: Worst to First, Points Scored (Season)
Third Criteria: Worst to First, Points Scored (Last Week)
Fourth Criteria: Virtual Coin Toss

Teams are moved to the end of the ranking order when they are awarded a player.

Teams can add umlimited player(s) per week using the waiver wire system.

Players will immediately go to the waiver wire for 48 hours after player has been dropped.

If a player's waiver processing date/time is set to occur after the player's game for the week has started, the league is set to: Player becomes a Free Agent next week Tuesday at Noon EST.

You can complain on how clunky the free agent/waiver wire process is, but not to me or in this thread. Please send those complaints to AOL by clicking here.

Trip - re #100 and Ware. I drafted him as a LB and consider him as such so the matter is closed as far as I'm concerned.

For everyone's info. I've been diagnosed with a staph infection in the big joint of my left grand toe. I'm going to see an infectious disease specialist at UTSW on Monday and depending on what happens with him I'll either be on a 4 week antibiotic regimen or in for a 3 phase surgical procedure and off my feet for a while. I may not be around much for the next few days if anything pops. It all stems from my kidney infection if you can believe it. What a life!

If someone had told me before the season that my 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 6th round picks would get me a combined 11.4 points in week 3, I would have figured that a blowout loss would ensue. Good thing my late rounders and WW pickups carried the day and then some.

0-2 this week. my whole offense sucked today.

guess who is the top-performer on my team this week? my QB, my RB, my WR, my TE, my K, my D, my LB, my DB - no. it was my Jason Taylor my DL and he has over 50 percent more points then my 2nd best player (DB Nate Clements). only 1 TD scored (Stephen Davis, who added an amazing 40 yards) is very poor for a fantasy team.

I can't wait to have Holmes, LJ, Horn, Jackson and Shockey back on my team. that would be a top starting lineup every week, if healthy and not on a bye.

Youngroman- you had better hope that Bigben returns. I saw the Eagles Sunday and McNabb looks to be minute to minute not week to week with his sports hernia which by the way really isn't a hernia at all but a tearing of the abdominal muscles away from the pubic bone. I am amazed that he can play at all with that condition and while playing on it may not cause any more permanent damage because he already must have it operated on eventually that doesn't mean that playing on it won't cause more of the ab muscles to tear away from the bone. i.e. it can get(and appears to be getting) a lot worse w/o causing anymore permanent damage.

I have a very interesting decison to make this week in my matchups with Roy (Deepsnapper) and Trip- Which Manning do I start? and if as I am leaning do I split my ticket who faces Eli and who faces Peyton? Trip is 7-3 one game behind me and Roy is 6-4 two games back. Roy has his top 2 WR out while Trip is at full strength with a J.Jones issue pending. Absolutely amazing that I even face this connundrum. With my top (and only RB) on bye I would be very happy for a split.

Looks like a very good deal for Trip to me but I have too much respect for grandpa Slowhand not to look for the "hidden" equalizing value. I know that McAlister just went down and that A. Smith is a starting RB even if just picked up off waivers (irrelevant) but Haselbeck will be Trip's starting QB and in my mind somewhere between a top 6 and 10 QB (and some would say should have been Slowhand's over Bledsoe too). Harrington is pretty worthless, will probably lose his job in 3 or 4 weeks when Garcia comes back. Not sure A. Smith worth that much more than Faulk to justify the QB cost. All that said I wouldn't veto the trade even if it is to the first place team (after this week LOL) but only because of the respect I have for Slowhand.

Wed, Oct 19, 2005, 12:29 We have just passed our 6th reset for F/A and waiver claim priorities, so the only changes from this point forward will be to move teams to the end of the list as F/A claims or waivers are processed. Therefore, I just reset the claim and waiver priority rules to "Commissioner sets manually".

Now I just need to remember to keep these in synch from week to week. Once F/A claims are processed, I copy over the resulting priority rankings to the waiver list. Once waiver claims are done for the week, I must copy over the resulting priorities to the next week's F/A claim list.

Well, even the possibility of going 1-1 with the second highest score this week doesn't put much of a damper on my past few weeks. Barring some improbable circumstances I should have the top point total in the league after this week, even though I'll likely be tied for sixth in the standings.

It seems like every two weeks another team gets hot and looks unstoppable for a while. Very competitive so far!

wolfer - that is a tough game. I can only hope that MIN fails to score the TDs today. Larry Johnson carried my team this week, but one outstanding performance isn't enough to win.

short draft recap:
1 Priest - out for season
2 McNabb - out for season
3 Horn - missed 4 games
4 Bennett - not starting all season
5 Da Jackson - missed 6 games
6 Shockey - ok, no yardage, but gets the TD
7 La Johnson - very nice with Priest out
8 Muhammad - gets no yardage
9 Staley - missed 8 games
10 Seattle - not great

all that missed games and season ending injuries and I will still be in 2nd place after this week.

Well, one week to go. Top 4 (Valkyrie, YR, deepsnapper, me) have clinched playoff spots. Pancho clinches a spot with a win and Bags will too if he wins both his games. Trip, wolfer, and slowhand can all get a spot on W-L record if the cards fall right.

Every spot in the seedings is up for grabs, so it will be interesting to see how it turns out. I'm trying to hang on to the overall scoring lead but youngroman and Bags are on a roll and will be tough to keep behind me.

Beezer- congrats on a tough victory- i thought manning (I played wrong one by the way as Eli would have beaten you) would pull it out for me but Pitt couldn't give them enough of a game to make them do more than sit on the ball in the 4th Quarter-
Nevertheless I believe I have clinched a spot in the RFCC next year with at least a second place reg season finish(and a 1st round bye in the playoffs) but need a win or a loss by Youngroman to clinch the #1 seed as Youngroman holds the tie breaker over me on h2h total points.

Thanks Valkyrie, thought I had responded earlier but I guess I didn't. It turns out that win was pretty important for me in getting the 3rd seed. Hopefully, that plus the overall point title will be enough to get a promotion to the big table next year if I don't get it done in the playoffs.

Well, the playoffs seems to be pretty well set, unless deepsnapper gets 20+ points from Brian Dawkins or something even more bizarre happens tomorrow night:

1. Valkyrie
2. youngroman
3. Beezer
4. Pancho Villa
5. Bags
6. deepsnapper
7. Slowhand
8. wolfer

Brackets have been set on the league page.

I was not sure if they were going to use the alternative bracket selection where teams select their opponents each week. RIFC is doing a mock playoff bracket which does allow this, but it is not the official bracket. Unless there is significant support for a mock bracket, I will not be implementing this.

Trip - 2 questions

1) my 2nd TE (Kinney) is injured and may be done for the season. if that is the case what are my options:
a) drop Kinney, get a new 2nd TE, play Shockey
b) drop Kinney, get a new 2nd TE, play new TE
c) I can't drop Kinney because I already have a healthy TE in Shockey

2) in addition to the TE-replacement (if the rules allow it) I may also need a DL-replacement because of the injury of Jason Taylor. I may not know until Sunday 4:00pm if he plays or not and may need a last-minute-replacement in that case. how would such a situation be handled.

Thanks to all for a great season.

1) C - I would think you are stuck with Kinney since you already have a healthy tight-end. If you would like to dispute this decision, I don't have a problem running it by Guru.

2) If I receive an e-mail from you (or any qualifying league member) with what you would like to do , I will process any valid transaction as long as I receive the e-mail before a player's game starts (regardless of when I actually open the e-mail).

I would dispute that interpretation. Here's the relevant info (bold is my emphasis):

Specifically, players in the other slots (TE, PK, IDP) may only be replaced if they are designated as questionable or worse on the NFL injury report. This allowance does not apply to any player who was designated questionable or worse for the week 14 game.

Thus, you cannot add or drop a QB, RB, WR, or team Def after the week #14 freeze, period. You can only drop someone else if that player is designated as "Questionable" or lower. If one of those players is dropped, he can only be replaced by a player fulfilling the same position. (IDPs will be considered the same position for this purpose.)

I read that as any TE, K, or IDP that is newly designated questionable or worse may be replaced, whether they are a starter or not. Whether they start or not should not be relevant. Otherwise, a team with a backup DL would be forced to start them if a stud LB went down if they only carry 5 defensive players, for instance.

I think A applies. More importantly, I think Trip is dead-on that we should probably get a ruling on this. My $.02.

1 - I will recant my C answer and go with A. Let me know who you want by posting who you would like to pickup.

2 - Actually, for all transactions after Noon on Wednesday which a manager is qualified to make, post them here if at all possible so that there is no confusion who you want to add. In the rare event that two managers qualify for a drop add before noon on Wednesday, send me an e-mail with your transaction request so that I may process the transaction via the normal waiver wire claim priority.

Really quick analysis:

Valkyrie vs Slowhand - Even with Westbrook's injury, Valkyrie has two solid RBs in R. Brown and Foster to carry the load this week. Peyton should put up a lot of points since he may not see much more of the field this season, so I think the top seed will take it.

youngroman vs wolfer - I thought off the cuff that YR would be an easy favorite, but then I looked at the matchups. YR has Roeth vs CHI, L. Johnson vs DAL, and Galloway vs CAR, while wolfer has McNair vs HOU, Alexander vs SF, and C. Johnson vs CLE. I'm picking wolfer to pull off the upset.

Beezer vs deepsnapper - With all the players deepsnapper has lost this year, my hats off to him for making the playoffs. However, the loss of depth and QB and WR have him hurting, while my team could have put up 200 points last week and has some very favorable matchups. James, Fitzgerald, and Toomer will have to be huge for deepsnapper to win, but I just don't see it happening in all honesty. But I've been wrong before.

Pancho Villa vs Bags - This matchup hinges on LT2. If he's healthy and produces, I don't know that anyone can stop Bags without a Herculean effort. If he's out, then Pancho has a shot but it will be difficult even then. Bags is my pick here and actually my pick to win the whole shebang.

So what'd I screw up?

Semi-finals outlook:

#1 Valkyrie vs #4 Pancho Villa:

Split regular season 1-1; Valkyrie 8-6 edge if they had played every week.

This game is truly a battle of M*A*S*H units as the players that won't be playing would make an excellent team if they were healthy: Bulger, Westbrook, C. Martin, Ray Lewis, and A. Pierce are out while 8 others are on the injury report in some form.

Pancho needs Gates and Rudi to go off huge to have a realistic chance to win and it would help him if the Colts back off some and Peyton is merely mortal. I think Valkyrie will have someone step up (Jimmy Smith or Ronnie Brown would be my pick) and put up a good score to carry him into the finals.

#2 youngroman vs #3 Beezer:

youngroman won regular season 2-0; Beezer 8-6 edge if they had played every week.

The two highest-scoring teams in the league face off in the other semifinal and show no signs of slowing down, with each team scoring at least 110 points each of the last 8 weeks. IDPs have been a strength for both teams as they carry a combined 8 players at the top 6 of their position.

YR needs another big game from LJ as well as Galloway and Shockey to come through because he's got a lot of questionable guys that are forcing him into some tough decisions at RB and WR. I'm taking a calculated risk by benching Vick and starting Garrard which should pay off but you just never know.

Since YR knocked me out of a playoff spot in the auction league revenge would be nice. The averages favor me and so do the projections I've looked at, but youngroman could easily take this game. I'm too scared to pick this one so I'm hoping for the best as this one will be a barnburner - 150 might not be enough to win this one.

injuries affected my team a lot this season, especially as of late:

QB:
- BigBen probable, may not play the whole game against MIN, may be forced to throw a lot with a hot MIN-offense, so he could produce decent numbers.
- Losman questionable which resulted Holcomb starting
- Garcia still sucks, I knew that BigBen and Losman are injury risks so I needed a 3rd starting QB, now it isn't even given that Garcia starts

RB:
- LJ is a must play.
- Stephen Davis is the backup (if he plays this week)
- Ducy Staley may be inactive for another week
- Shawn Bryson should split carries with Pinnter while Kevin Jones is out
- BJ Sams is the return guy in BAL and should be good for 5pts every week.

WR:
- Galloway is a must play.
- Wes Welker got injured this week and may not see that much playing time on offense, so his role may be limited.
- Joe Horn got worse from week to week, playing against a tough CAR defense
- Reggie Brown is an unsure play with McMahon starting
- Darrell Jackson may be starting but will be eased back after his long injury.

TE: Shockey
K: Edinger
D: Dolphins
DL: Jason Taylor
LB: Mike Peterson, London Fletcher
DB: Justin Miller

if you look at this team you start wondering how was I able to reach the 2nd round of our playoffs. I'm not feeling good going into this weekend and would be really suprised if I advance to the championship game.

Well, it doesn't get much closer than that. I went into last night's game needing a point from Charles Tillman to win, but Vick was having such an awful game that Tillman hadn't put anything on the stat sheet as of halftime. Fortunately for me he deflected a pass in the third quarter then recorded 2 tackles in the fourth to get me a very narrow win. Great game YR as injuries made the difference in this one IMO. It's a good thing I'm not superstitious or I might start flooding my house every year when the FF playoffs start.

It looks like the other game is still not settled, with Valkyrie carrying a 5 point lead and Ed Reed into tonight against Derrick Mason. Should be interesting to watch.

congrats beezer, you got your revenge. for a few hours this morning I thought that I could have won because when I looked at the scoring at 3am I was ahead by 1.96 pts, a few hours later I was back by 2.04 pts. I even had a few more points after the MIA game, but they reduced the sack total of Jason Taylor to 3 and that sack and fumble recovered total of the MIA defense too.
I am still hoping for an official scoring change, but I think that chance is below 1 percent.
good luck in the championship game, I'll try to win the auction-league next week.

Well Beezer- this is it- Not many decisions to make on my part- just hoping R. Brown can play at all and selecting which Manning gives me a better chance this week- Peyton in light of the Dungee issue or Eli in cold DC against a good D. I guess I must hope my old retread WR's McCardell, J. Smith and Glenn can out score your WR's and pull it off one more time.
My LB's are shot (Pierce and Lewis gone), my RB's decimated (Westbrook gone, Brown and Perry hurt), Foster lapping the lager, but somehow we have hung in there all year and I expect that a Manning will lead us to victory again.
Good luck, congrats on getting here, it has been a fun fantasy year. (As a devout NYG fan I will still be rooting for the Tikiman despite the points he scores for you.)

Congratulations Beezer. Nice run Valkyrie, it looks like your team hit the wall, but it appears a lot of teams did this week, it will be interesting to see how many teams do outscore Beezer this week.

The toilet bowl is still up in the air.

Thanks to all for keeping this league active throughout the year - good luck next year to all the RIFC qualifiers, and I look forward to playing with some of you on some level next year. Damn you Randy Moss!

Thanks guys, I was sweating since I was away from the Internet most of the week and just now got back to check the scores. Valkryie gave me a whale of a game even with all those injuries and players resting. I'm looking forward to next year - it will be weird playing in a league that Trip isn't commishing, and my hats are off to him because both years have been well run and well organized.

Thanks to everyone for keeping the league active top to bottom. I expect we'll see several teams next year out of the 4-14 spots compete for promotion and I'll be pulling for you.

Don't know what happened to my congrats post that I thought I made last Tuesday but congrats Beezer- a well deserved and dominating victory. We will meet in the RIFC next year and hopefully my team will be better prepared for you next time.
