Anyone have success with AOL live stats?
Another bitch about AOLLM. Everytime I do something that requires it to go to another page, it takes about 2 minutes to load. Anyone else have that issue?
I haven't checked my results, because I know I'll be in the playoffs anyway, and after that, it's a craps game ;)

I'm not worried about the load times. The free site are usually slow week 1 and then people's interest decline on the level of x^(-.5) each week after.

just so you guys know, I've entered the schedule through week 6. I'll try to have the rest of the weeks done asap. it just takes a while because you have to wait for the page to load each time you enter a game. btw - we're using the same schedule that the AA league is using. if you see any discrepancies between our schedule and the chart please let me know. here's the link (post 39).

I'll agree with you Holt that loading the schedule is a pain. I tried to find times when the response time wasn't to bad. AOL could definately improve the interface.

if i understand correctly, waivers and claims are two separate processes.
waivers only apply to players that are dropped from rosters (or new players added to the system).
claims apply to free agents. all free agents are frozen 5 minutes before their game time and are not available to be signed again until wednesday 1pm eastern - BUT, claims can be made on those players up until 12noon eastern. at noon the claims are processed (worst to first). an hour later all FA's are available to be signed normally.
so, if there are players you want to pick up in the claims process tomorrow, don't try to use the waivers link. use the claims link and make your claims through the 'Create/Edit Your Claiming System Requests' link.
i haven't entered my own claims yet so I haven't tested it, but I'm pretty sure that's how it's done.

It seems like almost every season somebody who holds out for a bigger contract and reports late, gets injured. Probably not true and maybe those players just stand out a bit more than others who get hurt.

it's accurate through week 6 right now. their interface is terrible. instead of setting all the games for a week and then hitting save, it saves after each game you enter - so there's a 2-3 second lag each time. just a pain in the butt. I'll try to finish it today though.

Yes, but I am not at home so can't access the site.
You go to claims and in the drop-down window select claim A. You scroll through and find the player you want on the right and select the player you want to drop on the left. Then you click save.
You can enter as many as you want for claim A, but only one from this list will be done and it will be the top one that is still available.
You then go to the drop down window and select claim b. You can do the same thing on this list.
For example, lets say I want a WR with my first claim and am in the 6th claiming spot. I know I want to dump Warrick, so I choose 6 different WR I want with claim A and use Warrick as the same player to drop for each.
With claim B, I want to drop my DL for another DL, so do the same thing.
Hope that helps.

Yeah, as I started to do it I realized that it was similar to fanball last year. I guess they are just porting that fanball engine. It's still not that intuitive. You would think clicking on "yes" would put it into some sort of pool to sort later.

right now it looks like I lose both games, but the scores are so close that I'm not ready to call it official yet. as it says on the live scoring screen: Live Scoring stats are unofficial, and should not be considered final.
TB has anthony henry. AOL has him with 6 tackles, 1 assist. NFL.com shows 3 tackles, 4 assists. so there's reason to think there might be an adjusment. I'm only down 0.46 points so I'm crossing my fingers.
I'm down 1.38 points to peter n. AOL shows roy williams with a forced fumble, while NFL.com doesn't credit him one, so I may still have some hope there too.

Guru's response:
My understanding is that the stats in the NFL gamebook are official. They show Williams with 2 tackles and 2 assists, plus a PD and a FF. This produces a total of 9 points.
That agrees with what Fanball has.
The stats on the "game stats" page at NFL.com are not as reliable.

found the official rule for this:
________________________________
How's this for dealing with scoring errors:
During the regular season: Scoring errors (for whatever reason) will be corrected whenever they are called to the attention of the Commissioner. This includes those due to scoring changes announced by the NFL after the initial stats are released.
However, the results of any head-to-head game will not be changed, regardless of a subsequent scoring change, unless the score is challenged prior to midnight (Pacific time) on the Saturday following that game week. A challenge must be posted by a manager in the current RIFC discussion thread at the RotoGuru forum.
In the event that a winner-changing challenge is posted by the deadline, then the manager of the opposing team will be given until midnight (Pacific time) on Monday (i.e., 48 hours later) to post any additional scoring challenge for that game. If that second challenge is upheld and it restores the original winner of the game in question, then the game result shall stand as originally posted.
The only exception is following the final week of the regular season. At midnight (Pacific time) on the Wednesday following the final regular season game, all challenges must be posted. No challenge filed after that time will impact any regular season result. However, if a late challenge causes a changed game result, the manager of the new losing team will have 24 hours to post an additional challenge.
Comments: 1. You have until the end of Saturday to challenge the result of your game. If you find a scoring error that changes a game result and it is posted before the Saturday night deadline, then the opposing manager gets until Monday to check for any additional errors.
2. If a scoring error is noticed after the related Saturday deadline, the fantasy points will still be corrected, but the result of the game (winner and loser) will not be changed. The points could still come into play for playoff seeding.
3. The drop dead date is midnight on the Wednesday following the final regular season game.
Playoffs A scoring challenge must be posted by midnight Wednesday. The losing team will have an additional 24 hours to respond to the challenge.

Before Wednesday at noon, you must put in a claim. Then at noon on Wednesday, claims are awarded according to Waver Wire priority.
That's the main gist of it as I understand.

I drafted these instructions for RIFC #1. Anyone who can help clarify them, please have a shot. I will delete this post afterwards.
You can peruse the free agent list and sort them however you like by clicking on Players->Free Agents or Players ->Player Listing and Stats.
There are three ways to drop/add players.
1. Drop/Add Players - This is to drop/add players when the after the weekly claiming process has gone through. During the regular season, league members are allowed to make their own free agent acquisitions: Weekly starting Wednesday 01:00p EST and players lock 5 minutes before kickoff of their game
2. Free Agent Claim - This is the first chance to claim a player after the previous week's games. It is based on the waiver priorities as described in the rules. Free Agent Claims must be submitted by Wednesday at 12:00p EST every week. The Free Agent Claim priority criteria is the same as the waiver wire priority (listed below).
3. Waiver Wire - This is the first chance to claim players who have been dropped by the Free Agent Claim Process. Waivers Requests made for players on the waiver wire are awarded to the highest ranking team. Team rankings are established each Tuesday morning. Your league is set to rank teams using the following criteria:
First Criteria: Worst to First, Win % (Last Week) Second Criteria: Worst to First, Points Scored (Season) Third Criteria: Worst to First, Points Scored (Last Week) Fourth Criteria: Virtual Coin Toss
Teams are moved to the end of the ranking order when they are awarded a player.
Teams can add umlimited player(s) per week using the waiver wire system.
Players will immediately go to the waiver wire for 48 hours after player has been dropped.
If a player's waiver processing date/time is set to occur after the player's game for the week has started, the league is set to: Player becomes a Free Agent next week Tuesday at Noon EST.
You can complain on how clunky the free agent/waiver wire process is, but not to me or in this thread. Please send those complaints to AOL by clicking here.

Just curious. So if you have to readjust the waiver order after claims does that mean that the first waiver claimer gets all their picks and then the second gets all theirs not taken by the first and so on?
This is semi-important as we are getting into the more decent bye-week teams.

i am really pissed off right now. I made changes to my line up and it showed them as being made this morning and now it is showing them as being made for week 5. I put in DeAngelo Hall for the empty spot and pittman in for Bennett. This has already cost me 15 points.

is anyone interested in working out a trade or two? I'm not interested in raking anyone over the coals. I want to seriously work with someone and see if we can find something that would help both our teams. a lot of times it's just not possible because of depth issues, but it's still worth taking a look. I need to shake things up and the FA cupboard is bare. all of my players are available, regardless of depth. shoot me an e-mail. anything from a slight position upgrade to complete overhaul is possible.

I went in and tried to set line-ups for future weeks and can't find how it is done. I just don't see that as an option, but maybe it won't let you do it once the games have started. I do see that it will not allow you to make changes once a players game has started.

mjd - I've been trying to find some kind of trade that could help both of us but nothing is jumping out at me.
let me know if you see something. maybe even a minor trade could help us out. just so you know I'd be interested in the following: - swapping my qb2 griese to mcnair - swapping the Bills to the Steelers. so if you could find a swap that would let you upgrade equally maybe we could work something out.
I also may have interest in your injured wr's.

That's what I was saying about trade compatability. At this point in time, I look to be a low seller. Thus far, my projections are not looking so good. Of the two moves that you suggest, the QB trade looks like a lateral move for both teams and the Bills D has somewhat underperformed pretty much like my Wash D, who I thought might be tradable.
That's OK, because things tend to change during the season because of injuries and such.
As an owner, I have also underperformed so far. Some of my game day decisions are making me look like a fantasy version of Mike Martz. Not a clue.
At this point in time, I feel like my best move is to not panic and hold tight for now.
It's kinda funny in a way. The one team that I wanted to do well against tough competition is doing poorly. Other teams that I had lower expextations for are doing well.
Thanks anyhow and if you see something, shoot me an offer. I favor trades that can potentially help both teams.

I had Ward going against his LT and Donnie Edwards. Edwards kept getting tackles and I was watching the lead shrink. When Ward got his TD, I was feeling great only to see the call get reversed. Speaking of which, as a Raider fan, I always get to see poor officiating against my team. Sure, I will admit that the Raiders cause plenty of it themselves, but the imbalance of holding calls and pass interference always get my goat up. Anyway, the Steelers were getting the short-end of the stick in that game. The "fair-catch" rule was pretty stupid. Sproles was never going to catch that ball and Ward wasn't down on his TD. Plenty of other questionable calls too. Okay, back to the game. When LT got his TD I was nervously watching the clock and just hoping the game would end. Would have sucked to see SD get the ball back with a couple seconds left and watch LT bust a big play for the game winning TD.

hmmm - live scoring originally had Demorrio Williams credited with a 59 yd return along with a TD. now it's taken away both. the actual play was a blocked fg which he returned for a TD:
4-22-ATL 29 (:04) 3-J.Carney 47 yard field goal is BLOCKED (59-M.Boley), Center-47-K.Houser, Holder-4-T.Bouman, RECOVERED by ATL-51-D.Williams at ATL 41. 51-D.Williams for 59 yards, TOUCHDOWN.
I have no idea how this is properly scored in our format but I do know that he should at least get the 6 points for the TD. I understand that the scoring for the 59 yds was taken away but the td should still be there. if AOL doesn't adjust this I will have to make a manual adjustment.

gonna be tight on my side of things.
TB and i have a close game, i'm up by 9.76, and tonight i've got by Todd Heap going against his Hines Ward and his Baltimore Defense.
i'm definitely at a distinct disadvantage, but stranger things have happened.
in my other game, i'm down by 10.78, with Heap being the last guy on either team to play.
a big game by him could make the difference between a 2-0 and an 0-2 week for me...

A nail-biter between us for sure. I need Hines Ward to have a 100 yard 2 TD night to open it up a bit. You can't imagine how irked I was last night when Pass let go of the ball and Schobel scooped it up. If I lose by less than 2 points it is going to irk me all week.
In other news, I am ahead of Toral in Serious Biz by a whole .50 points and he has Reed going tonight. One lousy extra point is all he needs for the win this week. I had been pretty lucky with my weekly match-ups so far, but it looks like I will be the #2 scorer losing to him this week.

I've been offered a trade that I plan on accepting (can't accept it til tomorrow). Fugazi (my bro) has offered Roethlisberger for McMichael. I think it's an even deal that helps both teams but I'm commish and the deal is with my brother so I'll allow plenty of time for you guys to veto it if you think there's reason to do so.
the reasoning behind the trade: I've lost both my qb's (culpepper and griese) for the season. Fugazi gets an upgrade at TE (Troupe to McMichael) by giving up his qb2 (Peyton Manning qb1).

Check the "View Transactions" area.
I put in a free agent claim for B. Johnson at 1:59PM. Unbeknownst to me, Tree picked him up at 1:58PM. So I did not get Johnson, but it still waved Brackett from my roster.
Why would it process half of this transaction and not give me an error message or just deny the transaction?
This is not a serious problem for me today, but what if I wanted to keep Brackett if I could not get Johnson. I'd be screwed.
As it is, I would not have waved Beckett unless I was going to replace him with someone else.

tree - waivers only become functional one hour after the weekly claims are processed each wednesday, then they become non-functional again for players that are locked (5 minutes before that particular player's game starts).
once players become locked there is no way you can pick any of them up until the claims process on wednesday. then 1 hour after claims are processed you can sign FA's or put in waiver claims.

I am baffled by the waiver wire/claiming order. I thought it wasn't supposed to be reset again for the rest of the year? Once you make a claim you go to the bottom.
This shows the current order: 1 cEHp 2 Fantasy Thugs 3 Bmd 4 Hubble's 5 SuperNovas 6 Sangre De Toro 7 Peter N. 8 CM Punks You Out 9 TB 10 Dilligads 11 Toral Wheatfarmers 12 Watermelon Farmers 13 ADAMS COLLEGE 14 mjd's maelstrom
The teams in bold made claims this week. Are claims and waivers to be counted as two seperate things? Even if waivers are reset every week by the commish, when claims are made is it AOL still basing claims requests on current standings?
So, if I am looking at it correctly, and I am about 99.9% sure that I am, the new order will be:
1 cEHp 2 Fantasy Thugs 3 Hubble's 4 SuperNovas 5 Peter N. 6 CM Punks You Out 7 TB 8 ADAMS COLLEGE 9 mjd's maelstrom 10 Bmd 11 Dilligads 12 Sangre De Toro 13 Toral Wheatfarmers 14 Watermelon Farmers
Will this be the order for claims next week too?

"Will this be the order for claims next week too?"
yes, but only if no waiver claims are made this week. if you pick someone up on waivers you'll move to the bottom of the list.
the earliest any players on waivers become available is always noon friday so there's always plenty of time for me to get waiver priority adjusted before it becomes an issue.

mjd - that's an odd glitch. if something like that ever happens just let me know (I check this forum more often than I check my e-mail). If you actually did want Brackett back on your roster I could put him back on there. I did notice earlier today that you made a drop without picking up a player to replace him. thought it was odd.
another thing - if there are AOL server issues on a sunday morning and any of you aren't able to get a roster move done - post here BEFORE the players involved would be locked and I can make the roster moves later when the server calms down. don't wait til the last second though. if your post here is 4 minutes before kickoff then you're screwed.

Nov. 3 Ben Roethlisberger (QB) Pit underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee on Thursday morning and will miss this Sunday's game, according to the AP. It's possible that Big Ben will return in Week 10, but Week 11 is more likely. Charlie Batch will start in place of Roethlisberger.

now that the bye weeks are almost over does anyone have a 3rd rb sitting on their bench they are willing to trade? I will trade a WR in replace of your WR quality for quality.
IE, you give me a quality back I will give you C Johnson or holt. you give me a weak rb I will give up marcus robinson or someone like that.

i don't recall ever having an opinion about your LJ pick culdeus. I do remember you drafting holmes though, and you laughing about how someone could be so ignorant as to pass on him, and my pointing out that he may only get 500 yards and 5 td's.
|
214 | culdeus
ID: 321042023 Mon, Nov 21, 2005, 21:08

The reason why you couldn't pass on Holmes is that in a 14 person RB HEAVY league the Holmes + LJ was the ultimate no brainer past the first two picks.
The odds of it running as a RBBC the whole season were very low. The thing I was most worried about was a Holmes injury that would bring him back for the playoffs. Now that I realize that the RIFC playoffs are meaningless and the regular season is all that matters the timing could not have been more perfect.

in what way are the playoffs meaningless?
looking back at the draft - I can't believe LJ went late in the 6th rd. that seems odd considering that even last year he looked better than holmes on the field. surprised no one grabbed him earlier than that.

Well, for one there are no prizes for this league so theoretically the "prize" per se is getting to go to the RIFC which goes to the 1st and 2nd seeds rather than how the playoffs play out.
I'm sure if someone swept the playoffs from a lower seed they'd make it too, but getting three wins in a row with benching threats of studs is not easy.

Battle for the 2nd seed among likely contenders.
Hubble's 14-8 2618 Week 12 Tree and culdeus Week 13 Cehp and holt
Culdeus 13-9 2822 Week 12 BMD and Hubble Week 13 Tree and Wiggs
TB 13-9 2555 Week 12 Wiggs and MikeV Week 13 Toral and Thk
BMD 13-9 2488 Week 12 culdeus and Tree Week 13 MikeV and mjd
Easiest schedule on first glance: Tree Toughest schedule on first glance: culdeus
I think based on the 1/2 game "lead" on PF lead and the head to head schedule remaining that anyone out of the 13-9 set is for all practical purposes eliminated. Obviously I can put together a perfect storm scenerio where this can happen, but it makes my head hurt.
And obviously Mike V could crater allowing two of these teams in and with two h2h games vs.us it's not out of the realm, but he's also got two games vs. 2200pf teams left and still holds the top pf of all so in reality he's got a 1.5 game lead with 4 to go. and a 2.5 game lead on the 3rd seed.

Teams to be invited to the 2006 RIFC: 1. me 2. The top 4 playoff seeds in the RIFC 3. The RIFC Playoff winner 4. The top 2 playoff seeds in each AAA league 5. The playoff winner in each AAA league 6. The playoff winner in the AA league
So the playoff winner will get in for sure, but making it to the final 2 doesn't get you squat probably.

In addition, my main chance was to make it on points after 1-6 WLRs. Altho I won both games last week, I hurt myself badly by picking the wrong 2 of my 4 possible RBs. Ah, uck.
Ah well, I gave it my shot.

Going into last night's game in my game vs Holt showed:
Watermelon Farmers 113.74 mjd's maelstrom 111.64
I had Pittsburgh's D and they scored 4 points Watermelon farmers players had all played, so he scored 0
I looked at results today and I see:
Watermelon farmers 115.74 mjd's mealstrom 115.64
I'm just wondering where the 2 points came from for watermelon farmer? Are they still updating Sunday's stats on Monday night/Tuesday morning. I'm trying to recreate his lineup so I can add up the points, but I have no record of it and can't recall who exactly was in his lineup. I guess I'm just trying to find out how I lost by .11 points in a game I thought that I had won.

my best guess is that a fumble was corrected somewhere, but I have no idea. brunell had a fumble that was recovered by the offense, but I think it was credited properly in the first place. maybe something with rams defense?

you guys should all read the RIFC thread in the main football forum. we will be using their playoff transaction rules (I don't care for them but we'll do it anyway). we will probably also have a consolation bracket like the RIFC (toilet bowl championship). no teams in the consolation bracket are allowed to make transactions of any kind.

There are alot of games up in the air, but as far as I can tell the standings will remain much the same from last week if you sort of guess how things will fall.
Hopefully MikeV and I can lose right away so this group can get 3 for sure in next year. Lots of strong drafts and teams here. bolta it was fun. Make sure you follow the RIFCXLC in the coming days.

just a refresher, from the RIFC rules:
" Players at the primary skill positions (QB, RB, WR) are frozen for the playoffs. Team defenses are also frozen, since they are not subject to injury uncertainty. Other positions are eligible for injury-replacement add/drop/claim transactions only.
Specifically, players in the other slots (TE, PK, IDP) may only be replaced if they are designated as questionable or worse on the NFL injury report. This allowance does not apply to any player who was designated questionable or worse for the week 14 game.
Thus, you cannot add or drop a QB, RB, WR, or team Def after the week #14 freeze, period. You can only drop someone else if that player is designated as "Questionable" or lower. If one of those players is dropped, he can only be replaced by a player fulfilling the same position. (IDPs will be considered the same position for this purpose.)"

the short version:
The only transactions now allowed are injured TE's, K's, and IDP's being dropped for their replacements.
teams in the the toilet bowl bracket can make no transactions of any kind.

according to RIFC rules all rosters are now locked except for the provisions listed above. I had totally forgotten about them or I would have posted a reminder last week.
I prefer to follow RIFC rules whenever possible but Guru stated that he didn't mind if the qualifier leagues used a different system. what do you guys think? I'd like to see if there's a concensus on this. we could do one of the following: A - follow the letter of the law. rosters are now officially locked except for IDP, K, TE injury replacements B - playoff teams have this week to finalize their rosters according to the rules above C - we scrap the transaction restrictions and allow normal claims, waivers, and FA's (playoff teams only)

CMIIW, but isn't aol a free for all for players once the playoffs start by default? I sort of remember that from a league I did last year.
The only thing I'd worry about is somebody good gets benched and you'd need a backup. i.e. edge/manning/sa/etc.

I'm not in so my opinion is pretty well irrelevant.
I would just note that I made it a point to know the rules, asking in the RIFC thread, and made transactions last week -- my (sob) last week -- on the assumption that the RIFC rules were good.
Maybe somebody else did the same?

i vote for C...the potential benching of studs that got you to the playoffs in the first place has the potential to wreck havoc with an otherwise good team.
a benching such as that should be treated no differently than an injury, and you should be able to replace that guy.

Fun league. Wish I could have done better. I could blame it on injuries to Bulger but compared to other teams I had no major injuries.

Question from a toilet bowler here
Can I replace an IDP listed as questionable this week. If yes, must I trade him for the guy he's replacing or can I swap out his replacement for any player on my roster.
Yeah, my team sucks and all that. I just want to field the best team possible so as to offer some competition for my opponent.

mjd - go ahead and replace that one player, but under the following conditions: - don't release any IDP, K, or TE that would possibly be of any interest to playoff teams in future weeks (any qb, rb, wr, or def you release is fine since they can't be picked by anyone now). - don't pick up any player that is top 10 points or average at his position. as long as he is a marginal player of no interest to anyone then I don't think anyone will care.

hum... 187 pts... i'm not sure either who i'd like to face next week...
it's funny to see that top 4 seeds will probably make it to next round.... if i rememeber correctly from our last year league, top seeded teams lost their playoff games. I don't recall if we changed the F/A system, but it might have prevented F/A to have major impact like last year. But then again, i don't know it might just have been luck.
I thought for a while that no F/A were really worthy of mention. But then i realize that yesterday, some undrafted dude did awesome. Gado, Moats and maybe some other i forget. Turns out they didnt make the difference. Any thoughts? Are the F/A rules different from last year? What was the result in ur respecting qualifying leagues?

I don't think it had an impact on this year or last years results. Most players picked up, even last year, were available to be picked up by every team prior to that player making an impact. Due to injury replacements, probably Goings was the exception last year (at least in the RIFC) and Gado this year. I did a detailed breakdown on RIFC free agency pick-ups last year and posted it in one of the threads.

Yeah, for all the hype it's a non-event. This scoring system and setup sort of kills the edge. FBGs tipped Gado a week before he was picked up here and I probably should have got him to snipe somebody here, but the Gado owner is now out so it didn't matter.
Though I would really like to see a blind bidding system implemented for rifc next year it's a pretty conservative group and they won't go for it.

can i get a check on the scoring for Atlanta's team Defense? i'm coming up with 12.84 to AOL's 10 even, and that would make all the difference.
i've got atlanta having, according to NFL.com: 2 fumble recoveries (although one was Hall recovering his own, so techincally only 1) - 2 pts 3 sacks - 3 pts 17 pts allowed - 1 pt 101 ko return yards - 4.04 pts 28 punt return yards - 2.8 pts
that's 12.84.
forgive me for nitpicking. i had one fumble recovery taken away on a reversal, and an interception for a touchdown taken away on a penalty. either one would have one for me...

man. looking at his road to the title, i wonder how different things might have been if that called back defensive touchdown in that monday game had been allowed to remain a score - i would have beaten Mike V, and i wonder who might have claimed the title.

You all should be embarrassed to be beaten by someone who has grandchilden older than some of you. Thanks for the great season.
