0 Subject: Survivor Week 2

Ok, so we've lost 2 members, be glad it wasn't you--I am. Man o man, my teams suck, I must have been heavily medicated when I made my picks. Losing Walker is going to hurt big time, probably doomed that team to an early exit which was my survivor team I liked most. Congrats to FNAS for topping 100 points twice already, that's pretty good. By the way what was the high score last year? I had the second highest and didn't think that would get beat but somebody had like 180+, right?

Who leaves this week? Really no idea, still haven't been able to open an excel sheet (my fault not yours). I'm helpng my Dad build his house/barn and for $10 an hour it is the toughest work I have ever done. All this week we have been putting up 28' x 38" metal roofing and it has been 85 degrees plus and windy, not a good combo. Had to take a day off to go golfing, even at $10 an hour the "fat kid" needs a break :-) Going to the tOSU vs SDSU game tomorrow, looking forward to that. On a side note the big joke around here is that I can't wait to get to Korea so I can get some rest and relax, something about that is bassackwards but unfortunately it was true. Still have 26 days of leave left.............

Take care fellas, I'm heading to the course now. SLM

GCobb was the high scorer last year when his team scored 175 in week 13 with this lineup:

Collins -- 34
J Jones -- 42.5
K Jones -- 32
T Bell -- 9
C Johnson -- 36
Moulds -- 14.5
J Hall -- 7

Unfortunately for GCobb, that was the same team that got him the boot in week two with 37 points.

Ironically, RBP's runnerup score of 160 was sparked by a 44.5 point effort from Javon Walker.

I posted last weeks results in the other thread so you can see them. I could post them each week in the other thread with the draft charts if you want them.

Ed, couple of things from your last post.

1) McNabb owners should be concerned because his bruised sternum will limit the times he looks to run and could effect his confidence in the pocket. I can't help but think how shaky McNair looked after he suffered a similar injury. McNabb may light up the Niners this week, but I think his numbers will suffer this year and he's one good hit from spending significant time on the bench.

2) I agree that trading up to get the number one pick will probably end up being a bad choice. Likewise, I think electing to take the #1 position will turn out to be equally bad. In fact, I'd be surprised if more than one team that picked in the top 7 makes it past the half way point. I still think P Manning was the best choice for the #1 because of his proven scoring week in and week out. He should outscore everyone by a good margin, but as Clyde has pointed out, you win by having balanced scoring rather than one or two studs.

There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and stats. Keeping that in mind, I crunched a few numbers.

Drafting 1-6 in first round:
ECC: 75.4 points averaged
JBC: 75.8
Drafting 7-12
ECC: 82.6
JBC: 80.9
Drafting 13-18
ECC: 90.75
JBC: 90.2

I was amazed at how close the numbers were. It's a pretty small sample size, so no telling how accurate it is.

Shak,

The conversation and the number crunching makes for interesting reading, but after only one week it really doesn't hold much water. Do the crunching after week 6 and you have a little more data that makes sense. Still It does show a small trend developing.

The McNair injury was far worse and i think if McNabb was affected to McNair's extent then he would have missed more of the game in Atlanta, Sure any injury will linger for a few weeks, but I'm not overly concerned about his running, he wasn't going to run this year unless it was needed anyhow..really not worried.

There were a number of very weak games last week for teams that are much better then what they showed, you will start to see Culpepper/Favre/LT/Alexander/T. Green/James type of guys start making a impact. If you are fortunate enough to last a few more weeks then we will have a better idea who the favorites are versus the non contender/pipe dream teams.

Ed, I'll sleep much better at night knowing that you're not concerned with McNabb's bruised sternum. IMO, McNabb's mobility is one thing that seperates him from QBs like Green and Bulger. He could always be counted on for a big scramble when the game was on the line.

During the Monday night game, it seemed like he was getting rid of the ball in a hurry and not trying to buy more time if his receiver wasn't open. Did you see the backward pass to Westbrook?? That was a horrible decision on his part and one I don't think he makes if he was healthy.

Of course that's just my opinion and I could be wrong.

Got to see highlights of the game and McNabb didn't look his old self. Being a McNair owner for many years, that kind of injury does take its toll. However like Ed said, the injury to McNabb wasn't as near as severe as McNair's. Still will be painfull and may affect his passing game, but shouldn't effect his running game. McNair was in the hospital and had to wear a flak jacket of sorts. McNabb maybe uncumfortable, but won't effect his mobility too much.

Sure It will affect McNabb a few weeks until the bruise heals. I'm glad your able to get a good nights rest! I'm sure Andy Reed and the other coaches that have running QB's hold their breath everytime they take off and run. I just don't think it's in the game plan anymore unless your M. Vick. It's a last resort to get a first down. Was he shaken up the rest of the game, sure he looked a little off, understandable when your having a tough time breathing. IF he takes another shot then I'll be worried. Culpepper is not even running much anymore, it's too risky..so I'm not worried about the running, it's a bonus and the injury won't impede it. When Owens gets two TD's and Westbrook gets a couple this week it won't even be a issue....Get some sleep..

Now that you have put my mind to rest on McNabb, I am now having trouble sleeping because of what Michael Irvin said about Favre. I usually don't listen to a thing that Irvin says, but this time I'm wondering if he's right. He said that Favre owes J Walker an apology because he was dead wrong in calling him out and telling him he shouldn't be holding out. He went on to ask how Brett could go into Javon's hospital room and say it'll be ok Javon, you'll still get your money.

I originally applauded Brett for telling Javon to get into camp and fulfill his contract, but now I'm beginning to think Brett shouldn't have interfered in another player's business. I think most NFL players agree that is an unwritten rule. Most Packers probably feel the same way, but are afraid to say anything. I think in the best interest of the team, Brett should apologize and say he shouldn't have called Javon out. You didn't see any of the Eagles call TO out and tell him to stop asking for a new contract, when he clearly shouldn't be renegotiating. Ed, am I wrong?

No, Favre has got his money and is set for the rest of his life, Walker is still early in his career and sure he was going to get a huge contract sooner or later, but Brett had no reason to get into Walker's business. Injury is the sole reason's these players get as much money as possible up front. It's the guys like TO who are making a bundle already and holdout and take advantage of the situation to get more, then it becomes a issue that a Guy might put pressure on a teammate. ACL's take a while to heal, I have had one blow, and you never recover a 100%, so Walker will lose a step or two for the first few years and some never regain that explosiness.

You got to take care of #1 first, nobody else will..

I was only expressing my opinion on McNabb. Jeez. I am not the all-knowing on the situation, but comparing it to McNair's injury. He will think twice about running the ball, but this is also the guy who played half a quarter on a broken leg! A bruised sternum is painful, but will be on the backburner unless he takes another shot there.

I am with you Shak about not listening to Irving. This is another case. That issue is resolved. Favre was looking out for the team. He doesn't owe Walker an apology. Walker with his old contract wasn't going to be in the free cheese line if he got hurt. Sure you have to protect number one and that is all Walker was trying to do, but if it will affect your team, you need to let the agents handle that and you go and do your job.

Being a Packer fan for all of my life, I know Favre lives, eats and breathes football. He has had some HUGE personal tragedies in his life. His wife had breast cancer, his father dying two days before a Monday night game. What record does he have? Most consecutive starts by a QB. Does he owe Walker an apology? No way.

What happened to the Love. I can't argue with Shak/Joe/Clyde all season long. I love Favre, but he's on the decline and GB needs to look to the future now..Have a Brett Favre day and send his A$$ back South.

Now who's the loser this week RBP in the ECC and RBP in the JBC....that will give him all the time in the world to build his Papa's house, grab a nail-gun and shoot something, cuz your done sonny boy!!! Just kidding..

Arg, I sure hope I don't go down in both leagues. That would suck. My son's football team is perfect on the season, today they were shellacked 38-0. I caught an intersting quote from the coach after the game, might put it on a t-shirt with the team logo, "We didn't score but we don't care". Nice.

In the EC, 2Cool & Clyde in a battle to stay alive. 2Cool has 29.5 with L. Johnson and Porter to go. Clyde has 38 with only Antowain Smith to boost his score.

In JB, too many variables to consider right now. Ednecks, Trash, Clyde, TB, Harmon, CPS, and RBP feeling the pressure. All with players left.

I could feasably leave in both leagues. Wouldn't that be irony!! I hope I can survive in at least one league anyway. If I did leave, that would just cap off a perfect football weekend. I lose here, got creamed in the contract league and the Packers lost and are 0-2!!

Week 2 Cast-offs:
TB in JB
Clyde (2004 Survivor Champ) in EC

Immunity won by:
Tribe in JB
Reaper in EC

Comments for the week: GCobb goes from worst to first in EC, but all it took was one bad week. TB goes from 100+ in Week 1 to Week 2's victim in the JB this week. 2Cool scores 48 in EC and survives!!!!

Yeah, losing TB was not only a gift, but it saved me from leaving in the JB. Having Portis in both leagues will get me killed before long. I like my EC team, but with TB leaving, anyone could go. GCobb, shouldn't have gone early either, so Mario/FNAS/LR better not think they are safe...I'd still feel pretty good with their teams.

FNAS,

I'm never serious, your right the start of this season is crazy, Dilfer and Palmer playing better then Manning & C-Pep, Top running backs are Parker, Williams. My kicker Graham is out scoring Wayne, Burleson and T. Green..nuts.

Looks like the defenses are dominating the games so far, we need a scoring explosion....

You guys aren't kidding about ridiculous starts. Manning was the lowest scoring person in my other league last week. He puts up 22 points against the Ravens, who have one of the better D's in the league and then goes against the Jags and stinks it up. I did watch that game and the Jags D was good, but Manning was stinking it up. His passes were late, overthrown or bouncing off receivers. His timing was off and everything. Just a terrible game to watch, but they aren't worried about fantasy owners, they still got the win.

Now the Packers starting out 0-2 and having Green do nothing isn't helping.

I can see that this year has been exciting for the normal fans with new faces getting recognized, but this is killing us fantasy owners!! ARG!!

I am out of here Friday, supposedly, so I won't be checking in until I get situated. Scotty, I still need an address. Buddy, we need to know who owes what in the contract league. I believe I won $30 last year as division champ, so I should still owe $45. Let me know so I can get a check out to you. I will also need your address.

How do I still have both teams alive and kicking?? Manning is suddenly very ordinary and my other first round pick, J Lewis, is looking slow and disinterested. The team with Manning has Michael Bennett as the #1 RB. And to think I was so happy when he fell to me in the 4th round. I'm definitely living on borrowed time with that team.
