OK, since we have all 12 managers signed in, I thought it time to start a thread dedicated to discussion and decision.

I have gone in and changed the playoffs to be two weeks and 4 teams. It seems from the limited input provided so far, this is the preferred mix. Should further discussion show differently, we can still change it back to 3 weeks and 6 teams.

I have also set the QB Pa points, to 1 pt per 25 yards. Again on the surface, this appears to be the preferred choice. Again, as always, its flexible and open to discussion. Once the draft begins, it will no longer be flexible.

Roster slots, I am currently leaving it at 10 starters and 6 bench. Only 5 bench players would be filled. The 6th would be for each manager to hold one temporarily injured player. Injured players still get paid, and still count against salary cap! To fill your bench (ie place 1 player on injured status), that player must be listed as doubtful or worse with nfl.com. Once they are no longer listed as doubtful (or worse), either a player gets released by the manager, or your roster is declared ineligible.

With the changes, rosters and points would be as follows:

Playoffs: Week 15 and 16 (4 teams)

Roster Positions: QB, WR, WR, RB, RB, TE, W/T, W/R, K, DEF, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN

With the opening game on a Thurs night, the first roster freeze will occur on Wed the 6th of Sep. I think we want the draft process over with, by the 1st, so we can explore any trades etc before setting our first lineups. To do that, I’d propose we begin the draft process on Aug 1. (I will, unfortunately for me, have spotty access from Aug 8- Aug 15 as we’ll be attending my parents 50th anniversary. They do have a pc and I-net, but I don’t know how much time I’ll be able to steal for this.)

Thoughts? Likes/dislikes? Discussion/debate? Let it begin!!!!!!

I'm not a big fan of return yardage - if we are going to include them, I think punt and kick return yardage should be scored separately since 20 punt return yards are a lot harder to get than 20 kickoff return yards. RIFC uses 25yd/pt for kickoffs and 10yd/pt for punt returns.

My preference is for no return scoring at all and this stratified scoring system would be my second choice.

The scoring system provided by YAHOO, doesnt differentiate between the two type of returns. Its either an open combo, or a zero. Upto you all.....

I don't think you should get 1 pt for 25 KR yards. You are suppossed to get 20. Is getting 25 of those yards really worth 1 point? I don't think so.

I would also think upping PR yards to about 15 to get a point would be better.

I am in a league and we have .07 pts for 1 PR yard. That equates to 14.3 yards for 1 pt. Then .04 for each KR yard...which is 1 for each 25 yards. It works pretty well but I don't even think KR yards should get that much...

If it doesn't differentiate between PR and KR then we shouldn't include them.

seems to be 2 of 2 voters, for eliminating the Return Yardage points. Anyone else care to chime in???

I think I agree with the thought that if we can't separate PR yards from KR yards, that I would prefer to see all return yards go away.

5 of 5 responses in favor of eliminating return yards from the equation. I'll "abstain", leaving 11 managers. 1 more response on that "side" of the question, and it'll be gone.

I would also prefer not to use return yardage.

-going to the beach for a few days (rain has finally moved out of the east!) won't have access to you all, but plenty of golf and (hopefully) good surf. Have a good weekend...

I am also against return ydg. Can't remember if I was ever in one that included it. I know the two that I am in in Sandbox does not.

OK, thats 7 of 7 against it, so its out. (With only 4 other managers in the league, even if they all wanted it...it would be 7-4.)

I am usually for return yards, but when punt and kick returns can't be seperated it would be a slightly different situation.

no return yardage is ok for me.

Offensive Fumble Return TD (0)

************************************************

Is this what we want? ie. I have a RB on my squad who fumbles the ball. However it happens, a WR ultimately ends up with the ball and scores a TD. That WR (for this example), is on your squad. Do we want to award that WR with the TD and 6 points?

I agree that a TD is a TD.

I can live with the decision on return yards, its what we had last year. I know because it wasn't until the draft was 90% over that I realized my mistake of drafting WR/KR/PRs.

gonna leave this go through the weekend for scoring discussion. If no other points get raised between now and Wed the 5th (that night), then I'll pretty much "assume" that everyone is OK with the way it stands. Then we can begin discussion into draft procedures, since we have a few new folks and they may well have some questions over how it all works.

Looking back at how long it took us last year to get done with the draft, I believe that starting 1 Aug should work out just fine.

Don't really see anything else that stands out as something I have an issue with.

Question - does kickoff/punt return TD points apply to team defense or individual players? If Steve Smith returns a punt for a TD, does Smith AND the Carolina D get 6 points?

D/ST is a unit, thus the points would go to the manager golding the Carolina D. (At least, thats how I believe YAHOO will score it.)

Valid pt...

FTR: Regardless of how YAHOO scores it, Returns for TDs by a Return Unit, will count for that Special Teams, without consideration to who the individual player happanes to be.

**************************************************

Unless some truly strong argument otherwise can be made by midnight tomorrow, and a number of other managers endorse that argument, thats how it will be scored in our league.
