As for team rosters. We are currently setup for 10 starters and 6 bench players. I'd recommend going with one of the earlier suggestions, and only allow carrying 5 on the bench and use the 6th slot as an "injured reserve" kind of thing. Any player could be placed on the I/R, assuming they are officially listed as doubtful or worse for the following week. This player would still count against your salary cap. Any manager needing to replace via Free Agency/Waivers, an injured starter, would have the option of claiming "Injury Priority" for the following weeks F/A acquisition. If doing so, the player taken MUST be of the same position as the player placed on I/R AND must be started that next week. If a manager does not claim Injury Priority, then they are free to take any position and start or not as they see fit. Injury Priority, would jump that manager to the "head of the line", re whose "turn" it is to take a dip in the Free Agency pool. Else, order will be reverse order of standings. If multiple managers claim Injury Priority in the same week, then they will go to the "head of the line", and execute their acquisitions in reverse order of their respective standings.

Free Agent acquisitions, will carry a $5 salary. PLayers dropped to make roster space for a F/A, will return 1/2 their salary rounded down, provided said player is dropped PRIOR to kick-off of the 1st game in week 6. After kick-off for week 6, they would return ZERO relief for salary cap purposes.

EX: I bid and win Edge for $18. He breaks an ankle in week 5, and I drop him. I would then get $9 relief in salary cap. If I kept him on "Injured Reserve" hoping it was only a sprain and I later drop him in say week 9, I gain no relief for salary cap purposes.

Starting positions are:

1 x QB
2 x RB
2 x WR
1 x TE
1 X Flex (Rb or WR)
1 x Flex (Wr or TE)
1 x K
1 x Def/ST (Whichever Def you start, you get that ST by default.)

Table is open for discussion/debate. :)

If we go with the I/R, that means we are only drafting 15.

Right?

Just trying to make sure this old fart understands.

Sounds good to me if that is what we are saying.

Thats what is being proposed, yes. 10 starters and then fill 5 of the 6 bench slots, leaving one open for temporarily injured players.

Also, I should probably add (so as to avoid repeating a scenario from last season)...

Team Rosters MUST at all times, be filled. (With the exception of the lone injured slot on the bench.) IOW, managers must have 15 players under salary at all times. Failure to have at least 15 players under salary, will result in a score of ZERO for those games where only 14 or fewer were under salary.

Any player placed in the I/R spot, cannot be played. Once the player is officially listed as better than doubtful, the owning manager must take that player out of his/her 16th spot. This may well mean, dropping another player to make roster space available. A player not listed as Doubtful or worse, must come out of the I/R spot, within 72 hours.

sounds good to me too.

all managers have to be aware that if they pick up a 16th player because of injury (for $5), that they may need to drop him a week later and only regain a maximum of $2.
knowing that, it is not a no-brainer to put a player on IR if he is doubtful, because it could be wasted money if he stays there for only 1 week. it all depends on how many money you have left after the draft.

Indeed youngroman, you're absolutely right. For my own purposes, unless a players injury should sideline him for at least a month,(assuming I have only 1 injured player at the time), I'll probably just leave him riding the pine.

Remember gang, nothing says your bench has to consist of healthy, active players. It simply must have 5 players at all times. Now, to have any depth, you'd have to have active players of course.

What's the penalty if a team leaves a player on IR that is no longer doubtful or worse? I don't think that really merits a zero - I'd prefer that if this occurs, since there is no valid roster spot for that player to move to and they can't stay on IR, that player is considered waived by that team and is available after the standard wait for waiver pickups.

Thoughts?

The rest of this is fine with me.

started to adress that and got sidetracked at work. (IOW...we got busy! lol) Will address that later this evening, but in general...right. Invalid roster = no points scored.

2 ways to address it I think:

The first, dealing with the 72 hours, begs the question as to when that timing would begin. I'm thinking an alternative may be the better way to go:

Players on the I/R, and no longer listed by nfl.com as doubtful or worse, must come off the I/R prior to roster freeze for that week. If this means a bench player must be dropped in order to make room, then the owning manager is responsible for designating the player to be dropped. If the owning manager fails to designate a player to drop AND the roster is otherwise full at roster freeze, then the commish will manually adjust the roster by dropping the player from the I/R slot and thereby releasing that player back into the F/A pool.

This would have the benefit of avoiding a zero because someone lost i-net access for ex, but would pose the threat that the star QB you had on I/R, suddenly found themselves back in F/A and available for $5, if you as a manager didnt "manage" your roster.

Thoughts?

Gonna leave this topic open for one more day. Come Thurs a.m., unless we get some objections before then, the rosters and F/A rules will be set, and we'll move into discussing the draft process.

OK...ROSTER FREEZE:

This will be somewhat dependent on the site we use for hosting the league, but I think we can pretty much agree that we want it no more than 5 minutes prior to KO, and NOT tied to the first game each week. ie, players whose game isnt until Mon night, are not frozen UNTIL monday night.
