Is smack talking allowed here? I thought we were the kinder, gentler type of league.

I'm a given! As far as the Champions league I have no problems with it. Might as well make this a true league...sounds sort of like getting relegated to the lower divisions.

So, there will be one league for former champs and vets...and one for new people...is that correct? OR two leagues (like last year) for the vets and one for FNG's? Three total?

I like two leagues total..one the champion League and one for new guys....I think three survivor leagues is to much to handle in this format....already to hard to cheer for certain players in two leagues let alone a third one to confuse things.

However, if there are only two leagues. one for champs and one for FNG's, there will no longer be an overall champion...will there???? OK I Have to get some sleep now.

We'll hack it out. I like the idea of two 18 team leagues. One that has returning veterans and another with FNG's with the opportunity to move into the Champions League. I'd hate to get relegated........

I still like the idea of two leagues like last year with the top 3 teams in each division/league playing against each other in the final two weeks instead of it being a separate win, only one winner instead of like last year Edneck winning one and LR winning the other. The FNG's league can be started and I like the idea of the top 10 staying in the Champions league and the bottom 8 dropping down to the FNG's.

Like Scotty said I'm sure we can work this out. I suggest once we get the 18 owners in the Champions league committed we get the draft positions set, so I can make a few deals.

Nevermind, I reread it..and dont like your idea..that would have the two leagues crossing ("Dont cross the streams Ray"), which could be a bad thing...imagine to identical teams from the different leagues playing one another...its a stretch but possible...then again, maybe I still dont understand what you mean.

Not sure Joe, I know last year the final three teams in each division/EC/JB played the final two weeks and whomever scored the highest after those two weeks won..right? So I suggest we have the two leagues/EC/JB and the final three in each/EC/JB play for the Championship over those last two weeks! That make sense or am I lost myself?

Im sure this was made into two seperate leagues..that had nothing in common with one another in order to avoid confusion like this Rednecks. Anyway, I think both "winners" last year were fakes anyway, and the only real champion was the overall survivor....who was that again?

Ill keep checking back but if you dont have room I understand why, you dont want to lose.

Got them both. I have numerous guys here at Osan who I think will want to play. I just sent them the info and we'll see if they show up. If we do in fact go with the Champions/FNG League format we'll need 36 owners so at this point nobody is turned away as long as a previous owner vouches for them. Like I said nothing is set in stone but if we go with the idea the returning vets from 2006 will more than likely start in the Champions league and everybody else will have to work there way up. I definately would hate to be the first guy relegated to the lower division....

I agree with RBP, as much as I like the FNG league...to share our Wonderful experience it would really suck to get kicked out in the first week and sent down to the FNG league the next year...We have immunity for that too? Ok, back to work now!

Hey, I recommend that rather then first 8 teams getting kicked off the rock go to the FNG League, the lowest scores should go. We have all seen some really good owners get booted in the first couple rounds due to pure bad luck and finish high in overall scoring…remember year one with the all Colts team……he would have finished 2nd or 3rd overall if he was not booted in week one. Also it would make more sense if we are still going to have two “real” leagues and one FNG league. Add the overall scores between the two leagues and the lowest 8 are demoted down…..otherwise it will be confusing when a team finishes in the top 5 in one league and bottom 5 in the other round. What would happen then, would the person be sent down for doing poor in one league or stay with the champs cause he did good in one league…..overall scores will solve this. In the event of a tie…..we go with TD’s..Just like during independent weeks (or highest score in playoffs). Understand?

This is a "Survivor league not a total points scored league, that's the beauty of it, even though you might just be average your still alive with consistent scoring. Sure there is a lot of luck in play, but when we draft we don't draft the best person everytime we draft the best person with the right team, right needs at the time and Bye weeks. So scoring huge is a Bonus not my overall gameplan.

This will take a little planning, so I think we get this sorted and all the kinks out before we get started.

My suggestion is if we go with the same format as last year and the FNG league the final eight teams relegated will be the combined finish of both leagues. If I finish 3rd in one and 10th in the other then I have a total of 13 points the top ten teams with the lowest amount of points stays in the Champions league. Tie breakers would most likely be Total points, highest finish in either league or we bring out the Petermeter and then Joe would lose that one everytime...He He :-)

Just an idea!!

Scotty -- Sounds like a bet. Should be a great game. Texas is loaded with the only significant question (albeit a HUGE one) being the starting QB. If we get someone to drive the bus we're going to be very good. OSU is loaded on offense but replacing something like 9 starters on defense. It will definitely set the stage for the rest of the college football season, that's for sure.

I agree with Ed -- I think the teams should be ranked based on exit week in both leagues. I also think the FNG League should be run the exact same way as the Champions League. I don't think we can find a site that will do everything we want, but I suggest that we take the money that we were planning on using for a site and pay whoever does the books. I think Jon should be given the opportunity to do one or both leagues. If he is too busy or only wants to handle one, I am available and I'm sure there's others.

I have a couple of candidates for the FNG League. I vouch for both. Steve Robinson and Greg Henniges.

Starting off kind of quiet today so let me stir things up. Heard today on ESPN radio. Colin Cowherd says that he believes Vince Young will be a disaster in the NFL. He says an indication of a bad NFL QB is their off field behavior. Make bad decisions off the field -- make bad decisions on the field. His current examples are Plummer and Culpepper. They have all the tools, but you can't count on them week in and week out because they are prone to making bad decisions -- both on and off the field.

Likewise for VY, he has made bad decisions off the field. His latest is hosting a party called the NFL's newest millionaires at an Atlanta night club. His cohost and close friend is Pacman Jones. Bad move. He also says that not taking the Wonderlich seriously was a bad move.

Agree or disagree, VY will not rise up to be a consistently good QB in the NFL?

OK, ed...you are right, I would get my ass kicked on the petermeter, so I guess I will just have to win it all and not be put in that situation.......anyway, scoring is important, a high overall score shows a Consistent scoring team and the top scores are usually the top teams (see previous years Rednecks)...getting back to Eds Idea, I like it, but there will likely be a lot of ties that way (11-1, 10-2, 9-3, 8-4...get it!!!!) And if points are not important..why would they play a role in the tie breaker? (just giving you a hard time in a serious way) But what ever the masses agree upon I am fine with it. I have a friend that would like in if we have room by the way, his name is Jeff.....and he even beats me (LOL) in just about every league we play, and he is a good speller. Let me know, he wants in if possible...

Okay Joe..no big deal either way, just saying how I feel about the relegation process...I think "Surviving" is the key word, I'll agree if you score high you probably got a good team, but bad management or luck made you the bottom team one week and that's the name of this game, not how many points you score. As far as the Tie-breaker goes I'll agree to whatever you want. Not having a go Joe, just disagreeing with you.

Shak-- VY seemed to make all the right moves in College and said all the right things, until the Wonderlic thing. I think to say he'll never be much because he's made a few bad decisions off the field doesn't really correlate to what happens on the field, otherwise Owens would be washed up by now. You may be right in the end, But I think at least give the young man a chance to prove himself and then start making negative comments which i'm sure a lot of these guys are trying sell papers more then report the truth.

You can see trouble written on a few players like the RB from Nebraska a few years ago I think it was L. Phillips who had trouble in College with his attitude and you could see trouble coming I really don't see that with VY, I think if he doesn't succeed it will because of his arm and decisions making on reading NFL defenses just like nurmerous great College QB's who have not made the transition...that's the most difficult thing to learn, I think you either got it or not... Time will tell...Big Money corrupts, so you may be right!!!

Ed, I agree with you in principle, but sound judgement is more important for a QB than any other position in any other sport. The amount of information he must take in and process and then make split second decisions based on that info is incredibly difficult. Colin's arguement is an indication of whether a QB can handle that is the decisions he makes off the field. The other thing that Colin said was that VY had thrown more INTs than TDs at UT. Is that true?

All you need is a QB that won't lose games...you don't need them to win. The Ravens and Steelers proved that. I'm putting VY in the same category as Vick. He'll be a great player but won't be able to do much for the team.

Fair enough Shak. I have my doubts about VY as well, I just hate to see negative or damming comments about a guy who hasn't even played one down in the NFL yet. These reporters are paid to find out things we dont know about, and I think most of it is warranted, but at least wait until we see him shake in his boots during the Pre-season, until then Tennessee must have a poor scouting team. I don't think he will be the next Ryan Leaf.

Lorin will probably play again. He is on leave right now but will be back on Sunday or Monday I think. I am sure he will check in.

I think Steve hit it right on the head in post 73. I compare Young to Vick also. Not quite as flashy as Vick is but to me he seems to be the same sort of QB. He will have his excellent games where he can take over the game and win it by himself but most of the time try and do to much by himself without getting team mates involved. Usually that equals a loss.

Clyde is currently in the NCO Academy and then going on leave right away. He was saying there is also a chance he might be heading back to Keflivak after he gets off of leave to close it down. From the way he talks he won't be around much to do any drafting. I know right now I am in charge of his baseball teams until further notice.

Everyone knows I'm a Texas homer. Nonetheless, I can't let the Colin Cowturd rant go unchecked.

As usual, Cowturd has his facts a little jacked up. He's the king of impromptu rants and analogies that seem to stray from reality.

Cowturd accused VY of not taking the Wonderlich test seriously. I don't know if he did or didn't and don't think Cowturd does either. At the end of the day it didn't matter. He was drafted 3rd overall, 7 slots higher than Leinart who knocked out huge score.

Cowturd doesn't like his uncle being his agent. Will it matter? Don't know because he hasn't signed his contract yet. If he gets a Ricky Williams, "Master P" type deal we'll have the answer. If he gets a normal deal for the overall #3 pick you could argue it was a smart move to keep that kind of money in the family. The jury is out.

He threw more picks than TD's before this past year. Not true. He threw 18 picks and 18 TDs prior to this year. Of course, this year he threw 26 TDs and 10 picks along with a 65 percent completion rate. He had a 59 percent completion rate both of his first two years.

The comparison to Vick is not a good one. Vick is much more athlete and scambler than VY. R. Cunningham is a better comparison. Vick only played 2 years at V. Tech and his completion percentages have been in the mid-50s. I think Vick looks to run first and throw second whereas VY is the other way around.

People can hate on him all they want. It's the popular thing to do. Will he make a top flight NFL QB? I have no idea because it's so hard to project. All I know is he's a winner, his teammates would follow him off a cliff, and he regularly beat teams with his arm (which would imply his mind).

Ohio St had about the best college defense in the country last year. They had 3 guys drafted in the first round and VY got it done through the air against them, to include a game winning TD throw in the waining moments.

OSU -- 18-29-2 270 yds passing & 2 TDs (62%)

VY is a pure QB and the mistakes he makes usually come from trying to do too much and make something out of nothing. The early reports from Tenn are very positive. He may not be ready for prime time but his teammates and coaches love his work ethic and willingness to hit the books. This kid is no R. Leaf or M. Vick.

Thanks for the kind words Edneck. I do love me some college football. The passion and traditions just do it for me. The NFL is great for fantasy football but the game doesn't have the same appeal to me as college ball.

All I can say about VY is he's the best player I've ever seen play at Texas. Better than Ricky and (gulp) better than Earl. And I'm still pissed he was completely dissed for the Heisman. Maybe they should wait to vote for that thing until all the games are over. If they had I'm thinking he'd have the trophy and not R. Bush. Speaking of which, where's the rant about the decisions Bush has been making over the last year? His "posse" (aka free loading parents) is about to land USC in the NCAA dog house.

Anyway, VY is my man. No idea if he'll make it in the NFL, but I wouldn't bet against him.

I'll see what I can do about rounding up some FNGs.

Ed, you have me pegged all wrong. I wasn't taking a shot at Jon or GCobb or anyone else. You know I'm a lover, not a fighter. I just want everyone to like me. I just found it quite interesting that CC was bashing VY. It seemed like what set off CC was the fact that CY was hanging with Pacman. Doesn't seem like a big deal to me, but CC must've felt it was a death knoll for VY's career.

Scotty, don't forget about my recruit -- Steve.

GCobb, I will only dispute one thing you said -- I've never heard of parents referred to as "posse" before. He hooked up his parents, so he's a bad guy?? If only I had kids that bad.

Shak -- I guess I just see R. Bush as a "poser". Says all the right things in public and had all the national media clamoring over him. Then we find out agents (or wannabe agents) are providing a house rent free to his folks for future considerations. Meanwhile, VY is getting blasted for employing his own family? Doesn't make any sense to me.

I kinda agree with Cowturd on the Pacman Jones thing. VY doesn't seem like the type to bow to peer pressure, but who you associate with does say something about your character. I'm hoping it's more Pacman trying to migrate toward a better crowd than the other way around.

Update. We can load rosters into a yahoo league but it wont take all of our scoring options. Either we slightly modify the scoring or continue to hand jam it. I'd rather simplify the scoring, so it would be easier to follow along on game day and see how your doing. All we would have to do is figure out the best lineup, that would take only a few minutes ass opposed to hours. Thoughts?

I think there is no way we'll get another 18 guys for the FNG league, so I suggest we proceed at least this weekend to finalize the players and roll the dice. The Vets who played last year who have not contacted/replied to the invites back have had enough time. I hate to lose them. but after a week you should have checked your mail weather your on vacation or not..

Joe--I believe it was $20 bucks for each division, 20 for Jim Brown and 20 for the Earl Campbell.

Osan is knee deep in an exercise but if you guys want to roll them bones go right ahead. One, 100 sided dice rolled one time and sent to you and me. Feel free to copy and paste your roll here. dice roll server is http://www.irony.com/mailroll.html

Make sure you put your name somewhere in the dice roll so I know who rolled it. I'll send my roll to somebody else to confirm. We'll say that the low rolls pick first and if we have ties we'll have a roll off. Roll on....

Just a rules/stat reminder......I assume they are the same as last year?

The league rules had an overriding motto to keep it simple. We draft only 10 roster spots - which is still decent depth considering there are 18 teams - and from the 10 you will start 1 QB, 1 RB, 1 WR/TE, 1 K and 3 flex-RB/WR/TE each week.

Basically we look at your team after the week is over and see what would have been your best lineup and that's the points you get. So if your team is deep and all 10 players are playing then you have a better chance to post a good score. If you have 7 guys who start for their NFL team and 3 who are backups the you need your stars to play better every week to hang around. If you can draft 10 solid consistent players then you should go far. If you draft guys like the Corey Dillon of old who would get 35 points 1 week then 3 points, then 29, then 4 then you can see that on his bad weeks you could be hurting.

The weekly top scoring owner each week will gain immunity for the next week but it will only last through NFL season 15. Week 16 and 17 their will be no immunity and teams will face off for two weeks with the highest combined score the winner and 2nd highest gets second.

Tie breakers for any given week are TOTAL TD's scored by your team (whole roster), then total TD's scored by your lineup (your actually lineup) then rushing TD's, recieving TDs and finally passing TD's. It will probably never even get to a tiebreaker but you never know.

And no transactions after the draft, you get what you draft to last you all 17 weeks! You can trade during the draft but the max # of players you can have is 10. All trades must be for even number players or picks ie 1 for 1, 2 for 2, 3 for 3 etc.

Scoring
Rules for QB Event Range (Low-High) Points
Passing Yards 25-999 1 point for every 25
Passing Yards 300-999 3
Rushing Yards 10-999 1 point for every 10
Rushing Yards 100-999 3

Rules for QB, RB, WR, TE, PK Event Range (Low-High) Points
Number of Passing TDs 1-99 6 points each
Pass Interceptions Thrown 1-99 -2 points each
Passing 2 Pointers 1-99 2 points each
Number of Rushing TDs 1-99 6 points each
Rushing 2 Pointers 1-99 2 points each
Number of Receiving TDs 1-99 6 points each
Receiving 2 Pointers 1-99 2 points each
Number of Field Goals Made 1-99 3 points each
Extra Points 1-99 1 point each
Fumbles Lost (to Opponent) 1-99 -2 points each

Rules for RB, WR Event Range (Low-High) Points
Rushing Yards 10-999 1 point for every 10
Rushing Yards 100-999 3
Receiving Yards 10-999 1 point for every 10
Receiving Yards 100-999 3
Receptions 1-99 0.5 points each

Rules for TE Event Range (Low-High) Points
Rushing Yards 10-999 1 point for every 10
Rushing Yards 100-999 3
Receiving Yards 10-999 1 point for every 10
Receiving Yards 75-999 3
Receptions 1-99 1.0 point each

TE's are treated as Wr's in this league just so you know.

Draft
The draft is serpentine with a twist in 2005. As usual we will roll them bones. All 18 owners will roll and I will verify all rolls, my roll will be verified by Shak/Clyde. This season we will actually run two leagues simultaneously which also means two drafts simultaneously. This is the idea, we sort out from the bone rolls who picks 1st through 18 (100 is the best, 1 is the lowest) and more bone rolling instructions will come. Owner #1 will pick what draft position he wants in draft #1. Owner #2 will pick his slot and so forth and down to owner #18. In mirror league the owner with #18 will select what draft pick he wants first in draft #2, owner #17 will pick next and so forth down to owner #1. Does that make sense? I'll clarify in another post if it appears to be too complicated, which it is not.

2005 payouts are as follows
Survivor in each league gets $210
Runner up in each league gets $75
Highest total score for all 17 weeks gets $50 in each league.
Owner who survives the most weeks combined between two leagues gets $50.

That adds up to $720 which is the entry fee in full, no site to payout, you get IT ALL BACK!.

Any questions, what did I miss?

OK trying to clarify a couple of things if you all could help me out.
1. This is the idea, we sort out from the bone rolls who picks 1st through 18 (100 is the best, 1 is the lowest)
In saying this do you want to be closest to 100 and if you are, you choose what draft pick you want, or is that the position you will draft.

2. Passing Yards 25-999 1 point for every 25
Passing Yards 300-999 3
Rushing Yards 10-999 1 point for every 10
Rushing Yards 100-999 3

I see its like this with all the yardage. Im trying to figure out what this means. Should it be
10-99 1 point for every 10 and then
100-999 3 points for every 10.

Thanks

See Post 147 by Scotty, "We'll say that the low rolls pick first and if we have ties we'll have a roll off. Roll on"

He said we'll go with the Low roll as the best roll. I'm pretty sure it was the same last year as I picked first with a 4 I believe.

You only need one roll as the draft in the other league will be reversed, Whomever picked last in the first draft will pick the first position in the second....

Midget--You pick what position you want to draft from, Ex: I have the first pick, I can select positon 18 if I want.

The points are simple-
1 point for every 10 yards rushing and recieiving
1 point for every 25 yards passing.
6 points for TDs, passing or running.
3 bonus points for:
QB-300+ yards
RB-100+ yards
WR-100+ yards
TE-80 yards
WR's get .5 for every reception
TE's get 1 point for every reception

Pretty simple and not complicated, because Joe would find it impossible if we had it any harder :-)

Hey gang...second time is the charm. Again, as I said the previous time...I rolled a 75 in order to give some of you guys a chance. Let's face it...I will be as good as my CHIEFS this season...All the way to the SHOW baby! On Larry Johnsons back and Trent's arm. GO CHIEFS. SUCKERS!
