Ok, here is the order in which we will select draft positions:
1.Peter N.
2.Loki
3.Electroman
4.Bonka
5.Kyle
6.Pancho Villa
7.Ref
8.Nerfherders
9.Deepsnapper
10.Promize
11.Frick
12.Wiggs
13.Russelldl
14.Bandos

These are the sets of numbers I received:
Kyle- 3-2-1-8-7-9-11-14-13-5-4-6-12-10
Electroman- 9-4-14-10-1-7-11-3-5-12-2-13-6-8

Let me know if there are any issues but I double checked it and I think we are correct.

by the way, I haven't finished setting up the scoring system yet so please don't depend on the AOL website for how we will score as of now. We will be going with the same rules the RIFC uses.

russell how'd you do the draft order. I thought you alphabetize the coaches's pseudonyms and then took the first group and put the alphabetized list to that set, then but the ordered set to the second set of numbers. I might be wrong but that's what i thought was done.

Kyle, I believe that the order now is to select where you want to draft. When you turn comes, you select where you want to pick in the slots available. I could be wrong though.

Ok I've done it again and I have the same results.
Here is the alphabatical list:
1.Bandos
2.Bonka
3.Deepsnapper
4.Electroman
5.Frick
6.Kyle
7.Loki
8.Nerfherders
9.Pancho Villa
10.Peter N.
11.Promize
12.Ref
13.russelldl
14.wiggs

Apply the first set and you get:
1.Deepsnapper
2.Bonka
3.Bandos
4.Promize
5.Peter N.
6.Ref
7.Frick
8.Electroman
9.Kyle
10.wiggs
11.Loki
12.russelldl
13.Pancho Villa
14.Nerfherders

Apply the second list and you end up with:
1.Peter N.
2.Loki
3.Electroman
4.Bonka
5.Kyle
6.Pancho Villa
7.Ref
8.Nerfherders

"I will accept the first two that are emailed to me from 2 different RIBC managers. The first set will resequence an alphabetized list of the team names as currently registered at Yahoo. The second set will assign the draft order. After I receive two sets of numbers, I will post the results here." per guru from ribc. I think you have it right.

14th, well at least I get a huge convenience factor!

We used KKB's On the Clock for the RIBC AAA 2006 Pacific Coast League draft instead of the message board and were all pleased with it. If the league would like to use it, I will volunteer to register the league and pay for it (It's $10).
Any idea when we will be starting the draft? Obviously we need to agree on league parameters first. I need to know as I will be on vacation and most likely without internet access from Thursday 8/3 AM-Monday 8/10 PM.

I'm cool with using On The Clock also, I haven't used it yet but I've heard nothing but good things so far. We've got 3 owners now for it, I say if we can get 7 total on board then we should go ahead and do it.
I need to put the breaks on things for at least a few hours this morning because we have a small issue that needs to be worked out. I left Slackjawed Yokel off the list by accident and he qualified and he asked in early on. So I'm going to try and figure out the most equittable solution before we move forward, any suggestions would be appreciated.
I'll keep everyone updated but lets hold off on picking draft spots until this is cleared up.
17russelldl

      Thu, Jul 27, 2006, 11:22
I also left Bags off the list (I've figured out the issue and those were the only two, there wont be more coming out of the woodwork).

So we need to fix this situation.

The unfortunate solution that I think is most obvious is to bump the last two guys who came into the league (Peter F. and Ref) down to AA.

And I think we would then need to re-do the draft order process from scratch.

That's my suggestion, I'll allow everyone some time to comment and make suggestion and we'll go with whatever the consensus is. I won't put a specific deadline on this but I would like to wait until monday to move forward in whatever fashion we decide to. That way everyone has ample opportunity to speak their mind.

And I apologize for the screw up. It was completely my fault.

The clock sounds good to me. 'specially if its free for me :) The random numbers should still be fine. I don't see a reason to redo those. I wouldn't change my set if there were 2 different names in the league and I doubt Electroman would. I'll let you figure out the draft order since when I checked it I was completly off.

KBB is fine with me. I may have missed it, but I didn't see anything as to when our draft positions had to be selected. I haven't looked at anything for fantasy football yet and will probably need to do so soon and figure out my drafting.

Here is the current status of the league:
-Things are on hold until Monday morning because of a mix up by me about who was supposed to be in the league.
-We haven't selected draft order yet, expect that to begin on Monday.
-As soon as the order is selected, and the rules are officially finalized, we'll be ready to start drafting.
-I wouldnt want to start drafting before the real RIFC and I don't know their time table. But I would assume we would start drafting next week.
-I think its pretty obvious that we should use KKB's on the clock. Everyone seems in favor.
Hope that answers everything.

I was able to get to Kafenatid so I should be good to go.

Hi guys,
This message will be posted on the boards and sent out as emails to each of you.

To answer Promize's question, this is the only email that's been sent out other than the invite to the league. Please make occasional checks of the message boards. I will try to keep sending out updates by email but I don't want to fill up everyone's inboxes.

The first issue that I need to address is league membership. As I'm sure you know I accidentally left out a couple of teams that were qualified for AAA this years. Unfortunately, in order to rectify the situation I am bumping Ref and Peter N. down to AA and Bags and Slackjawed Yokel are added in their place. They will be inserted into the respective vacated spots in the draft order. I flipped a coin to determine which of them would receive Peter N.'s number 1 slot and the winner was Yokel. So Yokel gets the 1st selection for order and Bags gets the 7th. The final list for selecting draft positions is as follows:
1.Slackjawed Yokel
2.Loki
3.Electroman
4.Bonka
5.Kyle
6.Pancho Villa
7.Bags
8.Nerfherders
9.Deepsnapper
10.Promize
11.Frick
12.Wiggs
13.Russelldl
14.Bandos

Bags, Slackjawed Yokel, and Nerfherders are the only teams who haven't signed in on the AOL page. If you need a new invite or the league name or password or any assistance, send me an email. New invites will be sent out to all three later this morning just to be sure they get them.

We will use the On The Clock system over on Kafenatid.net. I will set that up immediately following this email. I believe we need everyone to register with that website. I will send out another email once I've got us set up over there. And thanks to Loki for covering our $10 fee.

The rules section on the AOL site is not complete yet so be sure to check the message boards for the most current rules. We will use the same rules as the RIFC. There are some important rule changes so please check out the RIFC preseason discussion thread and make yourselves aware of them.

Lets go ahead and begin picking draft order on the board. Yokel, you have first choice.

We need to get everyone signed into the league and into On The Clock this week. With that in mind, and considering that some folks don't have internet access over the weekend, I’m setting the draft to begin one week from today, Monday Aug. 7 at 10am est.

That should give us more than enough time to have our order together and everything ready to roll. And that still leaves ample time to get us through the draft before the season starts on Sept. 7.

Ok, I think I covered all of the bases here but if not, feel free to email me at either russelldl@hotmail.com or russelldl2002@yahoo.com.

I will be on vacation and away from ready internet access from 9/2-9/20. If we start on 8/7, the draft should be completed before then, and therefore I would vote to start on 8/7. FYI - you can send a queue via OTC, you just can't make it pick automatically. You have to assign whom you want to be your "Designated Picker" and then send them the queue of players. The commish is automatically a Designated Picker for everyone.

I'd prefer the 15th as a start date also. we can set a clock with a designated sleep time or something to keep the draft moving if time becomes an issue.

Do most people have access on the weekend? My reason for asking is if we would start on the 11th, it would give us the weekend to start the first rounds. People might have a little more time to research their early round picks if they are at home. Just a suggestion.

I think that we should try to finish the draft before Labor Day weekend whether we begin on 8/7 or 8/14 to accomodate managers who may be away then. For me personally the earlier date is better as I will be out of the country the 1st 2 weeks in September and finding an internet cafe at the right time is not always possible. Additionally I did not pay much attention to the rule change and did not realize that there are 3 more rounds this year. Because of this I think that starting earlier makes sense. As far as the clock goes I would vote for a 6 hour clock 7 days a week stopped between 11 PM and 7AM EDT. We could shorten the clock towards the end of the draft if necessary. In any event I'll send Russelldl my queue for my round one pick.

As for draft date, it looks like the consensus is for moving it to the 16th (I know I said 15th but guru had the date wrong, so it would be 16th). I'm pretty sure we will be able to get the draft done without any problem. We can always adjust clock times in the later rounds if we need to. But with OTC I think we should be fine.

there's your final draft order. We are going to start drafting on Aug 16th so be ready. I still need Frick to sign in to AOL and Nerf to sign in to kafenatid.com and then we'll have everything set up.
I'm gone for the weekend.

Russell I will be going in for minor surgury (tooth implant) on Tuesday, August 15. I am not sure how drugged I will still be when I get home, but if we could start the draft sometime this week without a clock and try to get as many picks as we can before the Aug. 16th date and then start the clock for the rest of the rounds. I think that can allievate some stress about the latter rounds going into the season start. If that's not possible with Kafenatid well then I am sorry for the poor suggestion!

I don't have a problem with starting the draft prior to the 15th/16th, as long as we don't start the clock and everyone understands that it could be slow moving, but hopefully not.

You can "take a peek" at drafts in progress on Kaffinated. Once the draft starts, it's pretty self-explanitory at that point. FWIW, Goatlocker & I have drafted in leagues that've used the site since it's inception and KKB has come a long way with it since then. Hopefully we can assist anyone that has any questions about the site or get them in contact with Fred (KKB). He's always quick to respond if there is any issues to be resolved.

I'm fine with starting early, I too have a few things going right now and would need a heads up when it's time to pick is all.

I don't know if it's me be impatient to make a pick since I've been looking forward to this draft all offseason (this is the most competitive league I am involved in) but can we try to keep this moving. I like the fact that we had 7 picks yesturday, but none so far today. I'll be at the WSox-Yanks game tonight so I won't be able to check in until then. I have an 8 person q, but I have a feeling that it will be used up quite quickly. Maybe the draft won't get to be before I get back and if that's the case I'll reload my q back up.

Anyone have any interest in trading for my pick, maybe something like my 1 and 5 for your 2 and 3. Something like because I need to see where your pick is in the 2 and 3.

If a Q is AVAILABLE, the assumption is that designated pickers SHOULD go ahead and pick. Thus the option of maing it UNAVAILABLE.

If you want to leave a Q for only ONE pick then you should post here or inform your designated pickers.

That is my understanding of how the system works BEST.

The following Rationale format is in part copied from the 2006 RIFC draft rationale thread. As a moderator I can made changes to our thread should anyone want to add/revise the initial postings.

If your rationale is due and intervening placeholders have not been inserted, please insert them before posting your rationale.

3. Once the draft is over, each manager is also encouraged to provide a general draft recap, at which time you can discuss your overall strategy, mention any undisclosed factors, comment on what worked out well and what didn't, etc.

The general format should be:
1.01 Priest Holmes - RB, KC
Several sentences of rationale.

As part of your first round rationale, please comment on your selection of draft sequence.

The "why you chose the spot" is a new caveat that Guru added this year to the rationales that I just noticed myself when I was the format for posting a "placeholder" to tell you the truth. It's not something anyone has to do.

Rationale:

1.07 Rudi Johnson. The big boys were taken and we were solidly into tier 1.5 on RB's. Johnson has been solidly consistent if not spectacular, and will quietly put up good numbers week in and week out. James was an option here but I dont like the O-line in Arizona very much.

I picked 7th because I like picking in middle of the round, I get to pick consistently every 14 or 15 and I dont miss out on any runs.

Rationale

1.11 Ronnie Brown, RB, MIA

I had the 16th choice so 11th was what fell to me. I have played in 3 previous leagues (2 AA leagues in 2004 and the RIBC last year) and have drafted in the same basic spot every time so I am used to it. I won both AA leagues regular season and eeked into the playoffs in the RIBC last year so I knew that I could compete from here.

I was weak at RB last year and have been converted to having a stable of RB. I thought I would end up with Parker and Westbrook, which would have been fine, but Ronnie Brown fell a bit here or the hype is just that. Great coach, much better QB situation, solid receivers, as a Pats fan Miami is VERY worrisome. Seen him as high as 5th in mock drafts, cheatsheets, projections, etc. Let's hope he lives up to it.

This is one incredibly slow draft... anyway we can speed it up? We have 16 rounds to get through and we 18 days till first game... The rate of 1 round every other day is not going to get us there in time. People really need to start using their buddy system and leaving queues and moving this faster...

1.08 Peyton Manning
I took a long time to decide between Ronnie Brown and Peyton with this pick. Brown should be a stud this year, but I knew that Manning wouldn't make it back to me and with Edge gone I can see the Colts throwing the ball much more often.

2.07 Julius Jones
With taking a QB in Round 1 I have to take a RB here. Jones was by far the highest rated player here. Hopefully TO will help stretch the field and open up running lanes. The reason Jones was still available here is his injury history. If he can stay health he is a Round 1 pick. We'll see.

3.08 Joseph AddaiI needed a second RB, as a Colts fan I hope that Addai has something close to Edge's rookie season. Since Addai is a better blocking back than (recently drafted player) I hope that he gets more playing time. My season tied closely to the Colts. If Manning goes down Addai loses tremendous value.

4.06 Deion Branch If Branch wasn't holding out I would guess he would be gone by this point. I'm hoping that he gets back into camp. At this point my team appears to be held together by string and bubblegum.

5.08 Rod Smith I needed a 2nd WR, Smith is getting older, but continues to put up good numbers. Hopefully he can continue to do that this year. The addition of a 2nd legitimate WR should help.

6.06 Heath Miller I'm hoping that Miller takes a big step up this year. With the changes in the PIT rushing and receiving game Miller should get more looks and hopefully plenty of red zone looks.

Rationale

I wanted to draft towards an end. My choices came down to #4 or #12. I decided to go with #12 for the opportunity to draft a stud WR along with a RB ranked in the top 12.

1.12 LaMont Jordan,RB,Oak
I was surprised to see Jordan fall down to me at 12. I had no reservations about taking him here. I think with Art Shell the Raiders will be a "three yards and a cloud of dust" type running team. Jordan doesn't seem have any competition behind him. So I've got that going for me, which is nice.

2.03 Steve Smith,WR, Car
A stud who should score plenty. Please stay healthy!

1.06 Steven Jackson,RB,Rams
Likely to get at least 10 more touches per game this year, including more passes, sans Faulk.

I'm not partial to draft position, so the middle is fine for me.

Hey guys,
Sorry I havent responded to the question about flex positions. I've been out of town since friday and I've been trying to make sure my queues were set up with the minimal amount of internet access that I had.
But to make sure things are cleared up, there will be 6 IDP spots, one DL, one LB, one DB, and three flex spots. Same as RIFC. If you go all the way back up to post 1, I mentioned that I havent set up the AOL rules completely so don't go by those. Use the official RIFC rules.

Also, I read Deepsnapper's request for a new thread. Would everyone like a new one? My only hesitation is I don't want any confusion during the draft (i.e. someone posting about when to use their queue but it gets posted in the old thread). Someone pipe up and if folks want a new one started, that's cool.

Finally, we are moving pretty slowly through the draft, but believe it or not, we are on pace to finish on time. But barely. Our avg. pick time is getting shorter and shorter so it seems like we should be fine. But if by next monday (8/28), its questionable whether we are going to make it, I propose we switch to a 4 hour clock. Please post your thoughts on that idea. Keep in mind, kafenatid gives me a couple of stats about our speed and currently we are on pace to get done on time. I know it seems like we are taking forever but we got an early start and we shouldnt have any problems.

I erased that pick and electro man is back on the clock.
I'll post my rationale on the other thread but in the mean time here is my round 1 to be moved over:

1.10, Carnell Williams, RB, TB
I went with the cadillac because he was one of the few true feature backs still left. He will lose some TDs with Alstott back but Gruden will ride this kid until the wheels fall off. Hopefully they stay on all year. There has also been talk that TB is working to get williams more involved in the passing game which would greatly improve his value and his TD potential.
As for my draft spot, I only had 2 choices left so I took the highest pick. I think it worked out well because I think there was a drop off in value of first rounders after this point.

2.10 Larry Fitzgerald, WR, ARI

I went with Fitzgerald after Smith was off the board because I think he has the best situation out of the top WR. I looked at Chad Johnson at this spot too, but with Palmer not being a sure thing I decided to go with Fitzgerald since Warner can still play well enough, especially with the addition of James. I also like that teams can't solely bear down on Fitzgerald since Boldin is there.

How this will play out I'm not sure, since I easily could have went with Johnson, Harrison, or Holt. I just went with my gut feeling.

Our current estimated end date is 9/6. The day before the season, but that is consistently coming down (until today) because our first few rounds were before the clock and very slow.

we should finish in time to at least have one chance at a run through the waiver wire process in case someone wants to change the bottom of their draft due to late minute roster moves/injures etc.

If that means the clock needs to speed up, it needs to speed up.

As far as Promise's Rd 11 pick goes, he's been skipped and can make it up at any time. Kyle should be up for 12.01 and then Promize's clock will start on 12.02. I've played all 3 years of RIFC and thats how I know it to be. I'll check with Guru, but it's Kyles pick IMO.

The que management system KKB has devised is something that should be utilized more, IMO, to keep these slow drafts going.

I kind of got bit in the ass this past weekend while camping, since I had 2 linebackers in a row picked(three players on my que between them were picked). Still, for being away from a computer for 48 hours, that's a small price to pay. Besides, if I didn't want that guy, he shouldn't have been in que.

Yeah DS, that actually is what happened. Kyle took both of his picks and its back on Promize for 12.02. the current clock is for his 12.02 pick. I know it doesnt appear that way due to the OTC layout but I'm certain that's where we stand. If Promize times out here, then it will be on to the next pick and he can make both picks whenever he gets back. So I think we are all on the same page. Let me know if we aren't.

I agree that some waiver time would be nice. I thought it looked like we would be able to get that done but today has been a sizeable setback.

I'd like to hear suggestions on when to change the clock to 4 hours. I will say that I think there should be a 24 hour period before the switch so everyone has notice.

I am pretty sure that the 1st and 14th picks only have a 6 hour clock for the 2 picks at the turn. Intuitively it would then seem that if another manager times out, he should not get another 6 hours (or a total of 12 hours) for his next pick.

As to movement to a 4 hour clock, I would vote for starting it on Monday. I will be out of the country after 9/5 and have no idea what sought of Internet service will be available, so ending earlier is important to me.

Here is how I am administering the RIFC:
If a manager times out, he does not get a subsequent clock until the skipped picks are made up. Thus, a manager on the turn gets only one clock period for the turn. Similarly, if someone times out just before the turn, they do not get a second clock after then turn has picked.

The commish can elect to grant extra leeway if he thinks it is in the best interests of the league. For example, if a draft is ahead of pace, or if there is reason to suspect that a skipped manager has an unexpected emergency, then lattitude can be granted.

But, the purpose of the clock is not to give a manager 6 hours (or whatever) to make a pick. It is to give a manager 6 hours to become aware that his pick is due. Once that has expired, the draft can move on.

The kafenatid software may not administer things this way automatically, but the commish can manually force the issue.

Any skipped pick can be made up at any time.

Didn't think that the remaining RB warrented a 2nd round pick, so I went with a WR, and I was actually surprised that Johnson was available. Consistent WR, very happy that I got him.

3.03 Carson Palmer, QB, Cin.

This could be a high risk, high reward pick. I didn't like the idea of taking two straight picks from the same team, but I was hearing good things about his recovery, so I decided to grab him. I heard talk that if healthy, would be rated above Peyton.

I know 3.12 is not up but I just want to help keep things moving.

3.12 Warrick Dunn,RB,ATL

I am usually a RB-RB guy and not having a solid #2 gives my fantasy football mind crazy head. My decision in round two to draft a WR guaranteed that I would draft a RB in round three. I had a tough time deciding between Dunn and Foster, who went next, but decided I wanted a RB with less of an injury history. With the news of ATL, DEN, & WAS trade Dunn’s TD totals should be increased and he could potentially be a top 10 back.

4.03 Reggie Wayne,WR,IND

I felt in previous RIFC years WR was my weakest position, this year I wanted to change that. Wayne was listed as a top 10 WR in my rankings. Another serious option would have been Gates at TE, taken the pick just before me.

Ok, based on the time the draft is taking, I'm going to take us down to a 4 hour clock on Monday morning. Depending on how that works, it may be cut down even shorter after that. It may also be a good idea to find a buddy or post your email so that someone can contact you if you've been on the clock awhile. I think we will finish in time, but in order to make some moves beforehand, we need to get done faster.

I have a queue set up for next round also, I placed them in order so whatever pops up go ahead and pick them if we get back around today.

I had this on the clipboard so I'm gong to paste it before I lose it from another thread.

FYI - Under QUEUE Management, you can set the "All P players" option to 1 and the designated picker can only take the 1 player displayed at a time.

They can't view the whole queue that way if you decide to put 100 in a queue, they're only shown one at a time. It and the ability to set it to allow a DP to pick from "all players" is a new feature KKB just installed recently to OTC.

I sent russelldl an email about 25 mins ago and I saw the pick was just made. per #240, whomever has his queue was to take the next highest offensive player in russelldl's queue other than a RB , which appears to be the case, but I thought the email was prudent since that was last night's instruction. (or russelldl made the pick) ;)

4.12 Fred Taylor, RB, Jax

Needed a second RB in this round. There wasn't much left in sure fire RB's. If healthy, Fred Taylor seemed like a good option. Hope that it works out.

5.03 Todd Heap, TE, Bal

Steve McNair loves to throw to his TE, and Todd Heap is a good one, so I figure he is going to get the ball a lot.

I see where russelldl has opened the waiver wire processs. I don't recall using the waiver wire before the season to add free agents to our rosters in past RIFC leagues, but things fade over 50.

If so, the players I'm adding to my roster don't come off the wire until Wednesday, 8/30. Is that a system date or did you set it russelldl?

Okay, I was under the impression the other RIFC leagues were picking up their players as free agents as they drafted (each owner individually). The waiver wire would be set once the draft is over. You might need to check with how RIFC or another Commish like Trip (AAA1) to make sure.

russelldl - The 5th paragraph in guru's initial post refer's to them picking up their players as they draft them: I will clear all rosters at the fanball site shortly, and ask that each of you pick up your player as soon as you draft him. I will also attempt to make pickups for teams using a designated picker, so that we can maintain as complete a list of free agents as possible.

I don't mind picking up all my players via the WW as long as it doesn't mess up the actual inseason WW priority.

I'm also concerned about the pace with finishing as we have over 6 rounds to complete and the Labor Day weekend approaching. I'd propose at least a 3 hour clock during the day to help move things along.

I may bite myself with this as I've got Drs appts including a physical tommorow and a retinal exam on Wed. ugh (nothing like getting intentionally snowblinded for a few hrs), but thats okay, that's what queues are for. ;)

I'd be fine with the 3 hour clock if others would be ok as well.
Right now our projected finish is saturday and I think that is likely. To be honest, I doubt I will be able to finish up the aol league and such before this weekend since I'm without a home computer for the next day or two. I'll try to get the league finished and teams filled, rules finalized, waiver priority set, etc. by this weekend so if anyone wants to make claims we can get some done before next thursday's opener.
On the bright side, is anyone else as incredibly excited as I am that football is starting again????

I dont care what time the clock is set to. My Q is available - No instructions, just pick whoever pops up as over 50% will be dropped by week 2 at this point in the draft anyhow.

We missed the boat on rationale's. You have to start at round 3 and then post one each time you pick and not get behind. I do propose a draft recap instead where those of us who have all their rationales written (me) can post them with some commentary on the draft itself.

4.05, Plaxico Burress, WR, NYG

I already had 2RBs and a QB so I had to get a WR before they were gone. Burress is certainly a stretch as a first WR for a fantasy team but I think I made up for it by adding Kennison later as my #3 WR. I don't have a ton of faith in Burress based on his poor finish to last season, but I think the Giants offense will be potent this year and Burress will at least have the opportunity to be a major contributor. I hope he takes advantage.

Russell-You should go to a 3 hour clock, but even that will not help unless queues are left to prevent timing out.

-In some of the other leagues in which I have participated the rationales also never progressed very far. At the conclusion of the draft the managers posted an evaluation of their draft including their overall strategy, evaluation by position, prediction of their team's chances, which teams teams looked the strongest, and some other categories which escape me at this time.
Would the league have any interest in this? Participation would be at each manager's discretion.

I agree loki, I think the clock isn't going to make a huge difference. If people time out it slows us way down, if they don't it goes fast. I'm willing to go down to 3 hours if enough people agree.

I think draft recaps are always welcome, even if only a few people end up doing them.

Ok, NOW lets start using the other thread please.
