Subject: Survivor Draft/Rules/Discussion
Posted by: RBP
- [4768310] Tue, Aug 08, 2006, 19:25
The league rules had an overriding motto to keep it simple. We draft only 10 roster spots - which is still decent depth considering there are 18 teams - and from the 10 you will start 1 QB, 1 RB, 1 WR/TE, 1 K and 3 flex-RB/WR/TE each week.
Basically we look at your team after the week is over and see what would have been your best lineup and that's the points you get. So if your team is deep and all 10 players are playing then you have a better chance to post a good score. If you have 7 guys who start for their NFL team and 3 who are backups the you need your stars to play better every week to hang around. If you can draft 10 solid consistent players then you should go far. If you draft guys like the Corey Dillon of old who would get 35 points 1 week then 3 points, then 29, then 4 then you can see that on his bad weeks you could be hurting.
The weekly top scoring owner each week will gain immunity for the next week but it will only last through NFL season 15. Week 16 and 17 their will be no immunity and teams will face off for two weeks with the highest combined score the winner and 2nd highest gets second.
Tie breakers for any given week are TOTAL TD's scored by your team (whole roster), then total TD's scored by your lineup (your actually lineup) then rushing TD's, recieving TDs and finally passing TD's. It will probably never even get to a tiebreaker but you never know.
And no transactions after the draft, you get what you draft to last you all 17 weeks! You can trade during the draft but the max # of players you can have is 10. All trades must be for even number players or picks ie 1 for 1, 2 for 2, 3 for 3 etc.
Scoring Rules for QB Event Range (Low-High) Points Passing Yards 25-999 1 point for every 25 Passing Yards 300-999 3 Rushing Yards 10-999 1 point for every 10 Rushing Yards 100-999 3
Rules for QB, RB, WR, TE, PK Event Range (Low-High) Points Number of Passing TDs 1-99 6 points each Pass Interceptions Thrown 1-99 -2 points each Passing 2 Pointers 1-99 2 points each Number of Rushing TDs 1-99 6 points each Rushing 2 Pointers 1-99 2 points each Number of Receiving TDs 1-99 6 points each Receiving 2 Pointers 1-99 2 points each Number of Field Goals Made 1-99 3 points each Extra Points 1-99 1 point each Fumbles Lost (to Opponent) 1-99 -2 points each
Rules for RB, WR Event Range (Low-High) Points Rushing Yards 10-999 1 point for every 10 Rushing Yards 100-999 3 Receiving Yards 10-999 1 point for every 10 Receiving Yards 100-999 3 Receptions 1-99 0.5 points each
Rules for TE Event Range (Low-High) Points Rushing Yards 10-999 1 point for every 10 Rushing Yards 100-999 3 Receiving Yards 10-999 1 point for every 10 Receiving Yards 75-999 3 Receptions 1-99 1.0 point each
TE's are treated as Wr's in this league just so you know.
Draft The draft is serpentine with a twist in 2005. As usual we will roll them bones. All 18 owners will roll and I will verify all rolls, my roll will be verified by Shak/Clyde. This season we will actually run two leagues simultaneously which also means two drafts simultaneously. This is the idea, we sort out from the bone rolls who picks 1st through 18 (100 is the best, 1 is the lowest) and more bone rolling instructions will come. Owner #1 will pick what draft position he wants in draft #1. Owner #2 will pick his slot and so forth and down to owner #18. In mirror league the owner with #18 will select what draft pick he wants first in draft #2, owner #17 will pick next and so forth down to owner #1. Does that make sense? I'll clarify in another post if it appears to be too complicated, which it is not.
2006 payouts are as follows ($50 entry fee) Survivor in each league gets $210 Runner up in each league gets $75 Highest total score for all 17 weeks gets $50 in each league. Owner who survives the most weeks combined between two leagues gets $180. Score Keepers get a $25 discount (Shak and JHHH?)
That adds up to $900 which is the entry fee in full, no site to payout, you get IT ALL BACK!
League #1 Reggie White 1.HHH 2.Tribe 3.TrashHaulers 4.Edneck 5.Jeff D 6.Supa Mario 7.HarmonJ 8.Steve 9. Joe 10.Terry Tate 11.Midget M. 12.Grim Reaper 13.RBP 14.STB 15.Needs Replaced! 16.SHAK 17.TB 18.GCOBB

$50 is cool with me too, but can you email an address where I can have my credit union send a check? I had some complications with Paypal and even though it's resolved, I am no longer fond of using them. If I have to I will, but I prefer to have my credit union send a check instead of using paypal.

TB I don't have a bank account here on Osan so I can't cash a check. We can discuss it over email. I prefer Paypal because I just let it sit there and have a record of who it was from. Worst case I can have you send it to my wife in Alaska and I can deposit it that way, thats probably the work around.

No problem with the $50. I think someone is paying a portion of my entry fee this year anyway.
Trashman: $50 divided by 17 weeks is not even $3 a week for a couple of hours of work and no one person should be putting forth that kind of effort for two leagues for a full 17 weeks. Divide and conquer. Shak and I have done it for free for two years now...I'm ready for someone else to step up to the plate.

Joe why did you send me $100? It's $50. The score keepers get a $25 discount. It's hard work and I actually might have more time to do it this year so I'll help (it is my league afterall). I don't have a major heartache with one or two guys doing the stats, I just don't think anyone should play for free.
Everyone should pay $50 (everyone pays the same kitty, that's fair right?), and then we take the same amount away from each owner (say $2 or $3 per owner) and give that to the stat boys. That way all owners have paid to play and all owners (yes, even the stat boys) pay for this service.

I set up the draft order and set the timer for 12 hours. HHH must have pre-selected because he picked but I reverted it back to his pick. Draft start date is Aug 21 at 0100 EST. The 12 time limit is max, if you use it all for every pick you will single handedly make the draft a disaster. The closer we get to opening day we'll trim down the time limit as need be. Please PRE-SELECT before you go to bed or you will be gone for an extended period of time. Tell a friend where you are, have him pick for you etc. Don't be the "GUY" who were always waiting on. Thanks

Buddy, let me make sure I follow you -- everyone sends Scotty $50, including the stat boy(s). Then Scotty will take $2.78 from each owner and send the stat boy(s) a check for $50?
I'm not sure I follow the logic, but if you want to reward the stat boy(s) after the fact, rather than up front, then maybe Scotty could reward them with free entry fees for next season for a job well done. If the reward for doing the stats is the same as the entry fee, I'm not sure how you're going to get around the fact that they are playing for free.

I am pretty sure I can set up an excel sheet with all of the drafted players names and our scoring formulas. All that will be required is to input their stats for the week and have it generate their points. Then we can have one main page where we paste their weekly score that feeds into each seperate weekly sheet. We could even ask one of the guys from this forum to set us up with a file that pulls the stats straight from a web site. If we were able to do it that way, we may be able to have live scoring.

I replied, not sure where it went. I'm strongly considering jumping into the 21st Century and paying a site to track it. I'll get one as CHEAP as I can and the extra money will go back to the prize fund. It would be set up by total points, not head to head.

I guess Buddy doesn't like the idea of someone playing for Free? Like shak I dont see what the difference is, either way he gets his fifty bucks back for doing the sheet, Up front, later, who cares he still pays nothing and the Total amount stays exactly the same If we don't deduct $2.?? from everyone's fee. I may be missing something and Buddy has a valid point?
I'm going to stay away from the Sheet, makes me dizzy just looking at it, so if TB can get one together, that would be great.
The Tiki posts have not put me off him, I still havn't decided between Portis, Tiki, Jordan, EJ at the #4 pick. I just dont care for Rudi. I will just say the person that takes DD in the top ten is taking a huge gamble this year (that's not propaganda).

Like usual Ed, I am right there with you. I have Tiki rated as my 4th best back and DD doesn't belong in the 10 ten. Heck, I don't have him in my top 20.

I have Tiki ranked there also. He will get his points fron catches and long runs and a few TD runs, I will admit that Jacobs getting the Goaline carries is a concern, but I think he'll still score close to last year becuase the offense is pretty nice. Portis I like if he can stay unhurt he seems to take a few hard hits..Tiki seems to avoid the big hits. I'm really giving EJ a look, because If warner can get the ball to the reciever's EJ should have some running room. The question for me is, did Payton slow EJ down from becoming a great back, or did he open up the offense and help him get those open holes to run through? Is that AZ line up to the task...I still think Tiki will out score EJ, so I'm leaning towards Portis or Tiki, but I might see something I like in the Preseason.

Tiki has usually been undervalued, but this could be the year that he actually goes ahead of his true value.
How high up do you take a flyer on Mike Bell if nothing changes in Denver? Living near the UofA and being a huge fan, I can tell you that I'm a big Mike Bell fan, but the comparisons of him to TD are way off. He was a highly regarded high school RB coming to the UofA and he was very productive while he was here, but he didn't excel the way Trung Canidate did (and we saw what happened to him). Mike is not real big, he's not real shifty, and he's not real fast. Wait a minute, that sounds exactly like DD -- maybe we should bump him up to the top 10!

I honestly think Shanahan is working the media, Mike Bell may be leading the way, because Dayne and T. Bell are really not every down backs. I'm staying away from the situation until the later rounds. I know Tatum and Dayne are going way to high in drafts that I've seen. I don't think you can trust Shanahan, so I can't see me taking any of them until at least round 5-6 and that would be a gamble. I'm sure someone is going to benifit from one of the those guys, but in this format I'll take the sure thing everytime..gambling is what Cobb did last year by taking four QB's and you saw how that ended.

I'm not a big fan of the Denver RB situation. Shanahan won't hesitate to start either one of them putting a roster in a tough spot. The only guarantee with Denver is injury to one of the backs you don't have.
As for DD, the Texans like him more than Bush and they a well paid staff of "experts" to know these things.

Steve--believe me the Texans didn't like DD over Bush and they will live to regret that decision before it's all said and done. They thought DD was great for their system and that getting a Possible great Defensive player would be better in the long run.
My question is Detroit finally got smart and gave up on Harrington and when are the Texans going to get smart and realize that Carr is just another Harrington, I'd rather go with a guy like Kitna then Carr.
Plus Arizona actually has a football team? I thought it was a Lacrosse and Soccer School?

Very nice, snagging M Bell late in the 4th round after T Bell went. IMO if T Bell was the stud everyone thought he'd be, he would have taken over the starting job last year over a very average Mike Anderson. Tatum knows the handwriting is on the wall and he will never be the full time starter in Denver -- the coaches just don't trust him to be #1. Dayne will be #1 before Tatum. The coaches are praying that Mike Bell will make the fans forget about Tatum so that they can trade him away, just like they've done with every RB they've had since TD.

Shak,
I can't access my e-mail outside of work due to the whole smartcard crap. I just noticed that I am out of the Contract League. Is this correct? I know you probably sent me 9000 e-mails, but I had six weeks in Germany where I couldn't access it and I have been on leave since, so I probably have 10,000 e-mails waiting for me at work.
I don't have a heartache if you did replace me. I know you have a league to run and need to have solid owners. Let me know if you can get me back in.

Jimbo,
I have a proposal. Ednecks said he would be able to draft for me. I will be gone and unsure of internet capabilities where I am going, but I plan to not be gone for the rest of the season. I have been gone for too much in the past two years, I need a break.
I would be an active owner, but I can't say I will be around for the draft. We all basically have our teams, it is just the RFA/FA draft I wouldn't be around for or have limited capabilities for.
I wanted in this league from the start, but Scotty didn't ask me:o) Inside joke. Anyway, I would like to be able to continue to play if you haven't found anyone in the past couple of hours.
I do trust Ed to make the best choices and will live with the consequesnces if they weren't my first choices. Heck, I ended up with 1/2 of the starting SS in my baseball league and lived with that one. Let me know if you have any heartache with Ed picking for me, I do have another guy in mind who can make picks for me as well. Let me know.

No worries Scottie!! I just thought it was funny that after all of these years, we could still have a joke about it.
I can honestly say that I don't remember inviting me, but I am probably wrong. Anyway, I would be an active player, just not during the draft. I hit a walk off double tonight to win the game in the bottom of the 5th (time expired)...thats all I know.
I also know that I did something today that most of you if not all (Shak?) have never done, let alone today. I walked into NORTH KOREA! I staired the "Chonger" in the eye (not really) and told him to blow me (not really).
True story...while in building T1 in the JAS (I think it was 1, maybe 2) we were briefed that all conversations were recorded. The US our guide tells us not to touch the tables and the nK hear us because the mic's are live. When teh North takes a tour they take off there shoes and WALK AROUND on the tables bare foot just to piss us off. Saw it with my one eyes, foot prints on all of the tables. AMAZING!
Then I went 500 meters down into the ground to see a tunnel (tunnel 1) that the North dug south. The south bored holes into the earth and filled them with water, then they watched them to see which ones "erupted" when the North used dynamite to further dig the holes. Pretty neat stuff. The bad news is that after u walk down 500 meters u have to walk back up...for a fat guy this was BRUTAL! I almost died.
So how did you spend your Friday?

Not nearly as cool and it really didn't happen, but I got a chance when I was in Turkey to go shoot at .50 caliber gun on the range with the Army and had a chance to fly to Zurkuk? inside Iraq when I was there in '95. Some freaking general came to base the day I was supposed to do both of those and he got my spot!! I did get to see them jump out of a '60 right over the base though. Pretty cool anyway. Always the officers!!
On another note, when I was in Iceland, I was in on weekend duty to fix a rotor blade and the other guy I was with was an A1C. He went to the hangar to get some stuff and comes back with goggles on and in a flightsuit. He tells me that they are willing to take him up and to the range to shoot the gun. What could I say? He came back with some awesome photos.
Another story, I was in Jordan and was busting my balls with work and was put in for maintainer of the week. We were only there for 90 days. I told them that I had done my best, but I had just screwed a repair up by drilling into a wire bundle. Luckily it was patchable. Anyway, I told them, the newspeople, that I wasn't worthy of the praise.
That was early in the evening and later that night the Chief, Lt, and Commander came to our tent at work and proceeded to chew my arse!! They said that my one mistake shouldn't sour what I have done already. BTW, I was a SrA at the time and lowest ranking person there and working on one of Moody's F-16's.
So there I was standing tall, because my commander made me, in front of the man and getting yelled at for not putting myself in for an award. There is nothing more humbling that that. Not sure if humbling is a word or not but what the heck.
My Friday was spent waiting for the satellite dish people to arrive and getting casting plugs from kiddie fishing poles out of the trees, gazebo, shed, raingutters, etc. They called and said they couldn't make it today and that they would be by in the AM. Gotta love storms!! Glad I have insurance!!

Tim,
I have #11 and I've already traded S. Smith. probably should have asked for more for him, but I really wanted Manning this year and I've always liked the idea of pairing WR (Wayne) with QB. I Basically gave up Jordan, S. Smith and McNabb for Manning, Fitzgerald and Wayne. Not in my favor, but was Mike needed a RB in the worst way and i'm a softy.
I can live with Manning, R. Brown, Dunn,Chad Johnson, Fitzgerald, Wayne, Heap as my core starting lineup, it will compete. Plus I have a feeling S. Smith will have a few nagging injuries this year. I made the teams I traded with better and that's fine they both were struggling and I look out for the needy..Losing Jordan hurt but Manning will make up for that, I can see 4300+ yards and 33+ Td's this year, which will be plenty more then McNabb.
Sorry I know this a Survivor league...

I was DESPERATE for a RB and I always liked Jordan and was waiting for Martin to break down but never did. Anyway, I was going to have to deal Manning to stand any chance. I will lose serious points, but with Brees in NO, I might get more production out of Horn especially with Bush being there. Fitzgerald was really tough to give up, but I needed to get another QB in case Delhomme went down. He could also be poised to have a great year, not Manning worthy, but certainly a good year. Would have rather had S. Smith instead of Horn, but I will have to live with it and hope for a good draft and finding someone to step up.
Last post about this league for me, I will probably start a LMSCL discussion soon.

Not sure how many of you watched ESPNs MNF. A couple thoughts...
Tony Kornheiser is going to fit in nicely in that booth. He doesn't hesitate to call Theisman on some of his crazy statements. For example, Theisman said Oakland's new O-Coord (who was running a Bed and Breakfast last year) was more prepared to come back to the NFL than Joe Gibbs was. Stupid, stupid comment and Kornheiser called him on it.
Aaron Brooks is completely full of himself and I have NO idea why. He flat out sucks. The Raiduhs would be better off going with Walter.
The Vikings new uni's were sweet.

Okay, I saw that part and admit I thought he stumbled. Like he was going to say the typical, "I accomplished all I wanted to....umm, wait, I didn't really do shIt there, let me change that"
Brooks has been a good fantasy QB up until last years disaster. Right now I am a bit concerned with the Raiders offense. It is still preseason, but the starting offensive line is playing like crap and no QB or RB is going to have a great season if those guys can't do their job. I liked Brooks as a late round grab at QB, but now I am worried the Raiders switch to Walter midway through the year to get him so reps if they fall out of the play-off hunt early. I suppose he is an okay gamble in most formats, but not in this format.

Good news for you Dennis Miller fans from theonion.com:
NEW YORK—Although Paul Tagliabue will not address speculation concerning possible forgiveness of former color commentator Dennis Miller's heinous crimes against the sport, those close to the outgoing NFL commissioner say he is seriously considering using his powers to pardon Miller before leaving office. "Tagliabue knows that hard-line fans still want vengeance for Dennis Miller's constant clumsy references to the Battle of Thermopylae, Truman Capote novels, quantum physics, I Love Lucy, and everything else while they were just trying to enjoy Monday Night Football," said a source in NFL management who wishes to remain nameless. "In Paul's mind, the question is whether Miller's sentence is about vengeance or personal rehabilitation—not that anyone wants to see Miller on television calling a game again, if at all." An informal poll of Miller's 125 million formal victims indicated that over 85 percent would support Tagliabue if he granted Miller the death penalty.

The draft order looks good now, but it was screwy when I first logged in. I have my 1st round preset for both leagues and am ready to get this bad boy started.

Funny stuff. Cheat sheet for the sarcastic. I might use a few of those for picking players a few rounds too early.
