jtserb's selection was made by queue. That depleted the queue, so he'll be making the second pick personally (for anyone who might be wondering why jtserb would make one pick then disappear).

hey, is there any way we can get a quicker clock? 10 rounds in, it shouldn't be taken this long.
either that, or the same people that keep holding it up, oughta check in more often... *ahem*

I was thinking the same thing, Tree. When Trip gets back we ought to move the clock down to 4 hours. Encourage people to make queues, and end some of those deadly 4-hour-plus picks.
We're on pace to finish just before the season opens. I suspect many players are not adding their players on AOL LM as they pick so it could be a wild scramble in the last days unless we reduce the clock. Also I expect slowness Labour Day weekend.

7.08 Ray Lewis, LB, Bal
If he's healthy, there's no LB that's better. All reports say he is healthy and the last time he came back from an injury plagued season he put up fantastic numbers. Well, here's hoping he stays on the field.
8.07 Jason Witten, TE, Dal
I didn't really want to draft Witten. With the addition of Owens, I see his numbers dropping from last year. I kept waiting for someone else to draft him so I could take a TE with more upside like LJ Smith or Heath Miller, but when it came to be my turn to draft, four other teams needed a TE and I didn't want to risk having none of those TEs left for my next pick, so I went with what I feel was the safest choice left in Witten.

7.01 Mike Peterson, LB, JAX
IDP becomes a pressing need after 90 picks and finding Peterson available at the end of six rounds exceeded my draft hopes. I had Peterson rated in my pre-draft rankings at 81. The undersised Jacksonville MLB should deliver a steady 10 points per game and has a much higher upside. I project a 120 tackles, 4 sacks and 2 each fumble/interception placing Peterson as a top 10 IDP.

I second Toral's motion (post 30)...also, I propose that we penalize the next draft pick when sombody is away for multiple hours with out leaving a heads up for the people drafting behind them. I know we have a six hour clock, but courtesies shown fellow managers is definitely underrated during drafts. It is not that hard.
An example (and this is true): I am heading off to bed now and will not be back on the boards 'till around 8 AM Wednesday.

I just filled in 11 placeholders. StL and Toral have been doing the brunt of that work so far. It is ridiculous that you guys can't take the time to fill them in for yourself, if you aren't going to post your rationale at the time.
This is unnecessary work. I can understand having to wait on a couple of rationales, but this is too much. If you guys don't want to do rationales, just say so and we won't bother filling a space for them.

7.06 Nate Burleson WR SEA
Under-utilized in the Vikings offense Burleson should blossom in Seattle. As I mentioned in my rationale for Hasselbeck I expect there to be plenty of passes to go around in Seattle, and I expect Burleson to achieve the success many thought he would have last year.

8.09 L.J. Smith TE PHI
I drafted Smith as my TE in this league last year and was disappointed in his injury riddled season last year;but the reasons for drafting him still remain.None of Philly's wide recievers are IMO very good and Smith if he can remain healthy could and probabley should be used much as Westbrook has in the past and could end up the teams leading reciever.

11.11 Michael Lewis, DB, Phi
I planned to grab a DB and an RB. I'm looking for one of the backups to my main RBs. With Jamal Lewis's hip flexor endangering his status for week 1, Mike Anderson is my #1 target. I think that Anderson will make it back to me coming back around the turn, and if not I'll pick Lendale White (who is still around although he went at 7.01 in RIFC). Lewis has been increasing his tackles every year and should continue to improve. In RIFC last year's AAA champ, culdeus, declared that he had Lewis as his #3 DB, so I'll hope that the champ's scouting is fruitful. (Note: the next 2 picks were Mike Anderson and LenDale White. Aargh)

Toral/StL,
I have decided to just input players into Kafenatid for selection by everyone. DO NOT use the list I sent earlier. There should be plenty of players in my queue to make it till I return.
All,
I am proposing that we continue the rationales through round 18. You can include the rationales for rounds 19-24 in your draft summary if you like. The draft summary will be required.
Please make an effort to place placeholders for yourself if you don't have your rationale ready. We really have done a good job with them so far.

9.12 Will Witherspoon, LB, STL
The time has come to go IDP, and it will be an LB. I had Antonio Pierce penciled in for this pick. However, Da Bomb takes him off the board several picks before me, so I'm left to scramble a little bit.
Witherspoon is a good LB and he's supposed to move to the "Mike" in St. Louis. As a consequence, I am gambling that he will post excellent IDP numbers (top 10). He had a good year last year in Carolina and signed a significant contract. Hopefully, he doesn't turn out to be a bust like the last backer that the Rams signed to a big contract to play MLB: **undrafted LB no longer in the league**.

|
12.04 Travis Henry, RB, Ten
This was a mistake pick, a reach, caused by my panic over the disappearance of Mike Anderson and LenDale White from the board. I do think it is possible that Henry, not White, will pick up most of the carries if Chris Brown goes out, but this wasn't the round to bet on that proposition. I changed my mind and changed my queue to unavailable planning to substitute Troy Williamson, only to see when the page reloaded that letter_j and picked quickly and my Henry queue had already been used. I was still able to pick Williamson up in round 13, so I can consider this as a round 13 pick, which makes it a little less of a waste.

10.03 Ben Watson, TE, NWE
I had Watson on my radar since the beginning of the draft...he's the TE that I wanted (and I'm not a Patriots homer). The reason: he runs like a WR and is two years removed from his knee injury.
With Deion Branch very unhappy (sitting out) and David Givens now in Tennessee, someone has to catch the balls that Brady is going to throw (after all, he's going to have to be throwing it alot to justify a 3rd round selection in this league). Even if Branch comes back sooner rather than later, I still expect this ultra talented TE to have a big year.

|
11.12 Mike Anderson, RB, BAL
Jamal Lewis has had a recurring hip problem since the beginning of training camp (in fact, word now is that he will sit the rest of the pre-season), so I roll the dice and take a stab at another potential starting RB.
I looked long and hard at LenDale White, but was worried about his attitude, the mere fact that he's a rookie and the presence of Travis Henry. In my mind, Anderson was a safer pick than White as he's proven that he's a capable back (albeit in Denver) and if Jamal Lewis has continual/further injury concerns, Anderson will probably get the nod.

|
12.03 Shelton Quarles, LB, TAM
Time to go IDP again, as I'm a little lacking in that area.
Quarles is undersized and is not a very good backer in real life. However, in fantasy football, he puts up big numbers in a scheme that funnels plays to he and Derrick Brooks.

I propose we stop the rationales at 12. It is my turn to post a rationale for pick 13.07 and yet I was also the last one to post a rationale at 12.08. Seems the rationales are starting to lose steam and maybe stopping half way through is a good stopping point.

Probably a good idea. People can post rationales after that if they want -- would it be better to just post them in free-for-all manner in the rationale thread (after all the placeholders have been done up to 12.14) or to post them here? Anything posted here Trip has to move.

While it does not affect me (as I'll probably be posting rationales until 24.03; hey, I'm a lawyer (and we always have justifications)), I leave this decision to the commish. It's not a big deal to me one way or the other. Plus, although I fell a little behind and I apologize for that, I enjoy explaining what motivated me to do something (and I also enjoy reading other people's reasons for doing what they do). Matter of factly, I read last years rationales before beginning this draft.

I second StlCards proposal. I think people will start relying more on queues in the later rounds (I'll be gone most of the weekend), so there will be even less of a "rationale" for those picks other than "They were highest on some IDP web cheatsheet". i have a suggestion for everyone. when you're going to be away from a computer for an extended period of time, leave a queue. if you can't leave a queue, give us a ballpark estimate on when you'll be back on-line.
yeah there are plenty of RL things that are more important than fantasy FB, but several of us check in on the draft quite often (you never know when 6 picks will go in 10 minutes). it would be courteous to let us know what the situation is.

I've made Holt and Toral Designated Pickers for me. Please only select one player from a position and then move on to the next position. If all the position get used, then go back through and double up, but I wouldn't want to double up on say DL, TE, K, D if I have any of those positions in there. I have also turned on free-form so you could choose someone for me if you were so inclined. Thanks.

Middle of the night ck back in...what a surprise..again the draft is stopped. No Tree!! Not your immagination. I(t is your power of recognizing the same event for the past four nights...sometimes before my pick, sometimes after my pick..but still at the same place.
I have entered a 3 man queue, thus I should be good to go whenever my turn comes up. I will increase the number of designated pickers for this turn around in the hopes that beastiemiked will make his following pick immediately....unhanging the draft for the time being.

I am back. I am going to be pretty drugged up and stuck in bed for the next 2 days, but everything appears to have gone well. I have my laptop with me and plan on making my own picks from here on out.
I am more interested in the rationales from rounds 13-18 than I am in 1-6. I have already heard of everyone taken in those rounds. If you pay attention in rounds 13-18 you can pick up on things that will help you in your other leagues.
Anyways, I obviously can't force everyone to do the rationales, but it would be nice to at least put in a placeholder for your pick if you aren't going to write one.

RE: Rationales; I wouldn't mind posting more but perhaps those of us who were willing to do so could just post them as we get time. They would be out of order and perhaps a bit confusing but would save the time and hassle of placeholders and moving posts and still provide some insight for those of us who are interested.

FYI - Under QUEUE Management, you can set the "All Players" option to 1 and the designated picker (DP) can only take the 1 player displayed. Make sure it is set to ALL OF THE PLAYERS or your DP will only see 1 player.
The purpose of the one player option is so DP's can't view the entire queue if you decide to restrict access. They're only shown one at a time. It and the ability to set the queue to allow a DP to pick from "all players" and not just from the queue are new features KKB recently installed recently in OTC.
That's how I view it anyway. ;)

re post 122, I feel your pain...
To my fellow participants,
I do apologize to one and all for the delay as a result of the stag party last week and my delay in making my picks. I did not mean to be disrespecting to my fellow participants. As I stated in my rationale, when I left the house, it was all good...I never imagined that I would be on the clock that quickly. Thankfully (for me), I checked at the strip bar just before I timed out. Once again, I apologize.

THANKS...leaving a message as to when you'll be back is great. Others may argue such, but I so much would rather know when to look back in...than just have someone fall off the face of the earth....which then causes managers having the following picks to be checking back in constantly with out any idea if or when the absent manager will show....effectively dumping on those managers that actually care about their fellow managers

I just mentioned moving the clock to 6 hours. I didn't adjust it. I assume that Toral or StL adjusted it based on that post, which is fine. We really have made great time lately, though it does suck for you at the moment.
Trust me though, it sucks for me worse.
I had surgery to reconstruct my ACL and meniscus repair, which lasted about 2 hours, I was under 15 mins before it started till 15 minutes after they finished. I have been given percocet for severe pain and vicaden for moderate pain. I am running low on percocet and have since switched to vicadin as of about an hour ago. I miss the percocet already. The vicadin puts me in more of a fog, while the percocet just numbs everything (to the point where I cannot even pee). When the drugs do start to wear off, it feels like somebody has bashed in my kneecap with a tire iron. When I do get up to go to the bathroom it feels like my leg weighs about 1000 lbs.
I think it is starting to feel a little better. That being said, I go to my first PT session on Monday. My brother has told me that the first PT visit was the worst part of the entire thing.

13.12 Dan Morgan, LB, CAR
He has a glass head, so this pick is a swing for the fences. With this pick, I, without a doubt in my mind, land top 10 IDP talent...but the question is whether he will stay healthy enough to have top 10 production. This is pretty much where he went in the RIFC.

14.03 Angelo Crowell, LB, BUF
After taking a swing for the fences at 13.12 with Dan Morgan, I come back with another backer, however, this time a safer pick. Crowell played well last year when Spikes was out. He is extremely athletic, is a three-down backer, plays in the nickel, it is rumoured that Buffalo is implementing a new scheme with the plays funnelling to Crowell at the Will and he has nobody in back of him to lose his job to as the Bills have recently cut **undrafted linebacker**.

I have left a queue as i don't think Michael is going to draft tonight...or before I leave for the airport in the morning.
Whomever uses my queue...please be sure that you select only ONE PK and ONE TE. I have left another position (OP) player at the top of my list, thus, I should get the OP with pick 22.14 and then a PK with pick 23.01. Do not draft for me in the 24th round...the last pick of the draft.
But..if Michael (beastiemiked) drafts my OP..then please do as follows: At 22.14, take my top PK and then at 23.01 draft the highest listed TE in my queue.
DO NOT DRAFT PK AT BOTH 22.14 AND 23.01
thanks for the help. Sorry that I can't sit around the computer for a few more hours as I did this morning when Michael ran 4+ hours off the clock. (Boy, I am really appreciative of the courteous managers that have posted ETA for when they think they will be back)

Who has Taxman`s queue. For me, it merely indicates that Taxman is CURRENT PICK. Not that it matters alot...`cause once Taxman picks, bmd goes back on the 6 hour clock. I guess the best thing to do is to check back in 2:00 p.m. EDT.

Not really, Holt is on the clock.
From the first sentence of the first draft discussion: People at the endpoints of the draft have only one single time limit to make their consecutive picks. Similarly, the clock will be manually advanced to skip past anyone who already has a pick in arrears, unless other arrangements have been made in advance of that pick.
We will restart as before once Holt and StL pick. Everyone else had a queue set.

While we wait, where are my fellow participants from: Tree (Philly? As I`ve seen you post about ROH); Trip (Memphis? I thought you mentioned this when you drafted DWill); Toral (I believe that he is a fellow Canadian)...

Trip, not sure what the problem is, but can't you try to resume the draft, change the clock to longer, and then try deleting all the latest picks or something?
Seems like we should at least try to change the clock so it isn't flying along so fast, which can only add to the problem it would seem.

The draft is on hold until we hear back from KKB.
Hopefully we will hear back from him this afternoon. Monday AM is probably the worst case scenario.
We are almost done and these last couple of rounds probably won't last a full day.
We've got plenty of time before the season starts. Continuing the draft any other way has the potential to become a real disaster.

Is there a rule regarding free agents / waivers between the conclusion of the draft and the start of the season? Is it first-come first-served? I need to dump Mr. Allen for a kicker.

15.12 Philip Rivers, QB, SDG
When it comes to Rivers, there is not a great deal of consensus among "fantasy experts". Some are of the view that this first-year starter will not do so well and experience growing pains. Others feel that (1) the Chargers were comfortable enough with Rivers to let Brees go, and (2) with LT and Gates and the fact that he is a third year QB that has had two full years to learn the system, all of the foregoing will be a blueprint for success.
From my perspective, Rivers is probably just a bye-week filler and a start when Vick has a terrible matchup.

16.03 Eric Moulds, WR, HOU
Without a doubt, he's the second option in Houston. Still, a second option still on the board in the 16th round seemed like value to me. It's because Carr is throwing him the ball that he's fallen this far. Kubiak (I know, I know, Kubiak's not the OC) spread the ball around when he had two legitimate WR in Denver (Rod Smith and Ed McCaffrey (and yeah Shannon Sharpe)). He's a legitimate target and here's to hoping Carr can get him the damn ball.
Oh, and by the way, look at Mould's stats in even years: 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004 at http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/1196. Is this an anomaly or can an aging Moulds do it again in 2006?

17.12 Ben Troupe, TE, TEN
IMHO, Troupe is a potential big-time breakout player. He merely has to stay healthy to realize his vast potential (his skills are insane). And pairing him with Ben Watson provides for huge upside at this position at not a huge cost (10th and 17th round).
If that's not enough, IIRC, Tennessee set a record for targets to the Tight End position last year. If that trend continues, Troupe could possibly break into the top 5 in TE's this year.
I rolled the dice on two potential breakout TE's last year, hit both and was later rewarded handsomely.

Smith32[217] Correction to my 218
From the RIFC discussion: In the past, all undrafted players were frozen for at least 48 hours, after which time there would be a one-time, preseason waiver process, in reverse order of the first round of the draft. (This needs to be done manually, via email to the commish). After those are processed, all unclaimed players are released to free agency, first come, first served.
All teams need to add their own players by the end of the day on Tuesday. I caught everyone up through round 20 on Saturday morning. If your rosters aren't correct on Wednesday AM and I haven't heard from you, it isn't my problem.
The 48 hour freeze will come into effect Wednesday evening. Players will be unfrozend when I get access to a computer on Friday evening/Saturday morning.

I have just hit the house (thanks to a great tail wind) a half hour ahead of schedule. My thanks and sincere gratitude to Kirk (StLCards) for loading the remainder of my draft picks and double checking the roster against the draft. I guess that has me set to go.
And having had the #1 draft pick, I am at the aSS end of the first round pre draft waiver claims anyhow.
Thanks again Kirk

Da Bomb re post 234,
As stated by holt in post 235, kickers are all pretty much all the same (difference of give or take a point a week between ranks 1 and 15). People still remember last year when Rackers was not selected at all in most drafts, and emerged as the #1 ranked kicker. In addition, unless you draft a top-end kicker, a manager will probably release his kicker during his bye week anyways.
As such, in drafts such as ours where the draft is held further away from the start of the season, the kicker's roster spot is used to gamble on a pick up at another offensive position (QB, RB or WR usually), with the manager hoping that that late pick claims a starting job (or a stud goes down to injury in the pre-season and the late pick assumes the starting gig).

I've gone through and verified every team. Smith32 is a player short (James Allen, LB, NO) and I assume that has something to do with his pickup that was talked about as I don't see any new players on that team.
The Fighting Jed Clampetts drafted Thomas Davis as a DB, but he is a LB in aol.
Slowhand drafted Michael Boulware as a LB, but he is a DB in aol.
Didn't see anything else other than aol thinks that Witherspoon is still on Car, and I guess there could be other things like that that should be corrected by aol sooner or later.

This is worth posting from the rifc thread:
Waiver claims can be submitted during the 48 hours after the draft, processed in reverse order of the draft. (I guess it makes sense to snake these priorities for this one time, although I don't ever recall anyone submitting more than one claim at this stage of the season.)
The Fanball/AOL system will not administer preseason waivers, so the commish has to do this manually. Waiver claims should be emailed to the commish, stating the player to add & the player to drop. At the end of the waiver period, the commish will manually determine the waiver awards and make the necessary roster moves. Then, all undrafted players can be released to free agency, and players can be picked up 1st come, first served. The next waiver claim period does not occur until after the first week of games.
