Yeah we did really well today when people had Qs, but dragging again. Please be considerate when you can of your leaguemates. Not that we're in as much of a rush than before, just hard to sit through two 2 hour waits on the same person.
Draft is getting interesting. Some very good picks still being made.

Set up a queue of 2 players for one of my DPs to use tonight. If one of the players is gone, I will make my pick tomorrow morning.
A question. I am trying to decide on my last picks. I have the minimun at every position to start in the non bye weeks.
Do you have to field a full bench? For example, I have Akers as my PK, but his bye week is #9. Do I have to find a back up or can I go without a PK that week? Same for Team D. (My team D and PK have the same bye week -- which is not great -- but HEY I am an Eagles fan...)
Thanks.

Re Post 10. Not that I want to help out the competition too much, but I would advise that you are better off starting a player at each position every week. By week nine, you'll be able to see if you want to discard your kicker and pick up a kicker that has been doing well or that has a good matchup from the waiver wire. You may have some players that have just been sitting on your bench that you want to drop and then you can add an availabe replacement at D or K.
I think that the site will let you start your team without a full roster, but I don't remember from last year, as I never tried it.
Just my 2 cents.

Worst case scenario you start a player on bye week, but many sites require your starting roster to be filled. In the rules it shows there to be a min. of 1 player at every position.

re:10 "When drafting, there is no need to draft every position. For example, if you want to skip a kicker, be my guest. However, the software will force you to fill each of the 14 active slots when you set your lineup for each game. You will not have the ability to leave an active slot blank, so plan your bench needs accordingly"
That's a direct quote from the header of the first draft discussion thresd.

Thread, I'm just having my first cup of coffee.
You can start a player with a bye, but you score 0 points for that player.
Oh, so, for example, I can list Akers as a starter, knowing he won't play, and then not get any points.
That would work for the PK position. I am not sure I would do it for Team D though.
All kinds of subtle stuff here...but most of what I'll be doing will be pot luck anyway!

In previous leagues, I have carried only one kicker and one defense for most of the season. When there was a bye week, I picked up a free agent kicker or defense for only that bye week. I made sure that the kicker and defense had different bye weeks.
Some other managers carried two kickers or defenses the whole season and chose them each week based on matchup.

TD sent me an email at 10:30 PM that he was back and would make his picks.
Yeah, this is the most painful part of a draft like this.
It's beyond a crapshoot, at this point, but we must finish. Most of these picks are just placeholders for players that will be on our rosters in the near future. So keep stuffing those Qs with names and we'll be done very soon. You can never be too young or have too many RBs.
ONLY 56 picks left. Go to nfl.com and look at the depth charts. Yank a sleeper off there and add him to your Q and make everyone a DP. Repeat x10 today and tomorrow.
We've come so far, made 279 picks in just about a week. That's got to be a record for a AA league.
TO MY DP'S -- No more than one person per position please.

I'm still surprised by the lack of qs left. Yesterday we didn't even make two complete rounds even though most of the league picked immediately when they were up. Astade's q has been full the entire draft and we've been able to go right pas him. I've got to go soon so I will fill my q.
Another thing weird as I look at teams and try to predict needs to base on when I think a player or a certain position will go--people don't nec. follow that logic. Guess I can talk about it more after the draft.

Well you got to make sure that no one plays the same team twice in each week. Instead of reinventing the wheel let's get one of the AAA leagues to tell us how they do it.
Havne't seen Pete or Twarpy. No emails nothing. Pete was on briefly yesterday to make his missed pick in G24 and Twarpy was on today it seems to make his missed pick here. I have free form DP but no q from him. Most of these picks will probably be thrown back anyhow, so why not leave a q? Doesn't take that much time. Things need to get done by the commish to get this league set-up, like inputting players, schedules, waivers, etc so we need to get this thing done. Waivers in itself is a two day wait. I'd hate to lower it to less than 2 hrs ordinarily, but it seems that people are either picking very quickly, leaving a q or timing out, so I don't have an issue with lowering it to one hour if need be. I don't think most people realize how much time the commish is going to have to spend on this league to get it ready.

Thanks, Ref. I thought that there might be a formula.
I've been in touch with VP, and his internet access is very limited. I know that he's in Germany. I'm thinking that he might be US Military.
I think each manager can pick up their players off the FA list and self load them. VP has not been able to help with this, so try going in and loading your own players to your team. I'll be watching and can help as needed.
Judy, I'm not sure what that means. Probably some useless AOL stats, percentage owned/percentage starting or something like that.
How about we lower the time limit to one hour beginning tomorrow -- Friday? We are so close to being finished.
I'll still need help with waiver/FA stuff. I tried the AOL site but it was not helpful. There is no rush as I think I am set with my lineup for the first week.

Lowering the time limit it more for the commishs to set thing sup so we can you preseason WW. According to Guru, the rules are that once everything is set up, rosters are frozen. If you want a WW, you email the commish. Then once the 48 hrs are up the commish assings the players based on priority. Then drops other players and opens up the FA pool. Everything else also has to be done including making sure all players are picked up before locking rosters. Like I said, lots to do and VP isn't even around, so mjd has to do it himself. Hopefully Trip can help a lot, but obviously we have to get this draft done first. I think we should have dropped it to an hour limit this morning but the sooner the better IMM. Wouldn't be an issue if so many people weren't timing out as it is. If they are going to time out anyway, let's get this draft done with.

I'm also thinking of skipping anyone with one or more timeouts on the board when it comes back to them. I'd put a placeholder in that spot and they can tell me later, and I'll just swap it out. Like Ref said, most of these picks are throw backs and are really just placeholders any way.

Claims must be submitted to me via email. If you are submitting a claim, indicate the player to add (name, pos, & team - please) and the corresponding player to drop. If you have more than one claim to make, put them all in one email and prioritize them as well. Please put "RIFC AA WAIVER CLAIM" in the subject line.
I would agree to pass over Peter as he clearly is not around and we can speed up a little. I am guessing he would not mind...?
I opened my Q for my 21.10 pick. It is a RB and I will get either #1 or #2 so it is "safe".

Guru answered that in the rifc thread in the football forum. It snakes in the preseason with #14 going first. It resets every week for the first 6 weeks with worst recordgoing first. Then it is permanent. It changes again in the playoffs IIRC.
Pete is on AIM but is idle. Anyone that is skipped once, should be skipped automatically until they makeup their earlier missed pick. That's the way it is in all of the other leagues I play in.

I have skipped a bunch of people who have already timed out on one pick by puting a placeholder in their subsequent pick(s).
It's up to each individual manager to post who they want in what specific pick. You might want to do this before the roster freeze, which will start sometime tomorrow. If you miss getting your player(s) before the roster freeze, you might be forced to get that player(s) via the waver wire or free agency.

Yes, give everyone a chance to pick their players up--say Noon tomorrow. Sound good? Mjd, that's the same email I sent it to before. FWIW, here is the scheduling issue:
The hardest part will probably be setting up the doubleheader schedule. I asked guru how he did it, and luckily I have not had to reset it up since originally putting it together.
What we ended up doing was letting fanball generate a singleheader schedule first where every team played another team once. Then we copied that schedule for later reference, and proceeded to set up a doubleheader schedule.
mjd Sustainer
ID: 501381415 Thu, Aug 31, 2006, 22:35
Ref. that's kind of what I was thinking schedule-wise.
Emails sent to muhahos, VP, Twarpy and weykool.
We will start the 48 hour add/drop moratorium at noon tomorrow, during which time any manager may submit a waiver claim for any undrafted player.
I will process any waiver claims as of noon on Sunday, Sept. 3. Priorities will be in reverse draft order. While one could make a case for snaking these priorities, there is no precedent for snaking waivers, so "second round" claims will be in the same priority as the first waiver round. (per Guru, post 466, on the RIFC draft discussion thread)
After processing waiver claims, all unclaimed players will be released to free agency, available first come, first served. Players dropped during the waiver claiming will be subject to a 48 hour waiting period, but there will be no more waiver claims until after the first week of NFL games. Waiver priorities for that period will be based on records for the first weekend (worst-to-first).
You mentioned putting info into a SS. I tried to use the view in Excel from the Draft Grid and then save it, but it weirded out on me. The columns on the left are all screwed up. WOnder why? I also emailed it to myself somehow and it looks great, but does not print out all the columns. HMMM.

What the hell happened? Who made the last 3 picks for me? This is BS. There is a whole week till the season starts and we were well ahead of schedule. I would like to get a decent and rational explanation for this. If someone is saying that because I missed 1 pick and that is justification for making my last 3 picks I say that is total BS.
See 91. Tell me who you want and I'll correct your roster.

weykool. Those are just placeholders. You timed out and mjd put players in there to hold the place. Just tell him who you want and he will replace them, but do it before Noon. This is Labor Day Weekend when most won't be around. So Waivers need to get started since it has to be done manually. Also all players need to be put in your team. There is a LOT of work the commishs have to do to get the league ready. It's not like we go straight from the draft to the season starting.
It's interesting to note, my wife asked, "What's the upside for you to step up here."
Well, the big dummy (me), has no real answer except to say, "I get to play".

I hear that ALL he time!!! I don't even have an answer!
mjd, you know, you're going to have to make sure all the rosters are filled before you can even think about waivers. If you don't get cooperation, you're either going to have to load all rosters yourself or not honor waivers from those that haven't done it. Not sure the later would be fair, so you may want to wait until later than Noon to give everyone a chance. Your call.
The following still have placeholders on their team
VP-2 Twerpy-3 weykool-3 muhahos-3
I suppose if I get a response by 3 PM, I'll replace them Otherwise, they will be treated and processed as waver claims, as the rosters are frozen.
Like I said before, I don't know how RIFC rules handle this, but I'm not going to bother Guru, as he's very busy getting his site ready for the season. If someone wants to consult/poll other RIFC members, feel free. I'm open to suggestions
If any manager who has a placeholder does not post their replacement players by 11:59 PM TODAY, I will consider said team abandoned and seek a replacement manager. I'm speaking of the following managers:
VP twerpy muhahos

I'm going to repost the table in 126. The red are picks in which I reached for compared to league avg. and the green are the ones that fel to me compared to league average and by difference in picks.
I went to the AOL site to decipher what doubleheader meant and it looks as though I play two games during week 1: vs team 12 and vs team 7 -- so that must be a doubleheader. As far as I can tell, I'll probably use the same lineup for each one? I am not sure how to adjust for the different GURU teams we play. So any thoughts on that would be appreciated -- but don't give away any of your special matchup secrets -- if you don't want to!
I'm leaving for a barbeque at around 2:30 and won't be back until after 9. I sent a couple of emails out to potential replacement managers, but haven't heard anything back yet. Might be tough on a holliday weekend.

Sorry guys, I had some personal issues that came up these past couple of days, that required full attention, and to be quite honest this draft, my TSN baseball team etc have not been touched, nor have I even logged on at all, Im sorry about the circumstances, and if you want to replace me by all means do, but if not I will be active throughout the year.

So the only manager that needs to be replaced is our former commish, VP? We really need to have our managers set and start the 48 waiver clock today I'd think.

I have an error on my team. Josh Scobee is listed as an RB in AOL, but he's a kicker.
Just an outsider looking in with some observations. This league was looking doomed early on, but several of you really stepped it up, especially mjd, to get this thing off the ground. Take a deep breath now. You survived the craziness of your draft and some of the people in the league might have just needed to take a step back and "unwind" from this draft. The season doesn't start until next Thursday. I suggest you run waivers on Tuesday and then let everyone be free agents after waivers. Those that need to make a few changes have until game day to make those changes.
If managers don't set their line-ups, then I suggest the commish set them up for them. If after week one, you have managers that have bailed on their team you can get replacements. I will volunteer to step in and manage one if you need help, but I think you will be okay. You obviously have some committed guys who have stuck with the league thus far and the rest of the season should be fun.

Well if we start waivers tonight and wait 48 hours that means they will run Monday evening/Tuesday morning. Then like TB said, we'd have two days of FA pickups. Thing is that VP hasn't been here for what three days or so and was skipped several times before that in the draft. Just think his rl is crazy and might not have time for us afterall. Just an observation. I'd hope he'd play since he obviously wanted to so bad he agreed to be the original commish, but things happen.

Just remember that if VP didn't get the initial work started this league probably wouldn't have happened. He has some frustration going on. He did a great job for a rookie handling some of the adversity and challenges of trying to be a new commish. You are already a great commish with a lot of experience Ref, and still have to deal with some challenges in an established league. Try to imagine this being your first league ever. Heck, I let Maddod/Jerrylewis be in the first league I ever commished and although he had some serious issues, it wasn't near the adversity of this draft. Kudos to all of you.
The 48 hour waver period will start at 11:59 TODAY Please review my post 91 for how the process works, but with a different start time.
If a replacement mgr is found before 11:59 tonight, we're good to go. They pick 2 players for the placeholders and then wavers start at 11:59.
If a replacement is found during the waver period, their replacement players will be awarded to them, superceding the waver process.
If a replacement mgr isn't found until after the 48 hour waver period, claims will be processed and the new mgr will have to pick after all undrafted or unclaimed players become free agents.
Welcome back VP. I was hoping you would "show up" again.
What is a draft "recap"?
Also why are everyone's messages suddenly going off of my screen window so I have to scroll over to the right and then back again. It hadn't happened before, but I am now scrolling 2+ clicks to read each sentence. Can anyone "fix" this? Thanks.

Judy there is a draft recap thread for us, look for AA draft recap.
I'm also at fault for the screen issue with the big draft grid I posted. I am going to have to edit all the charts I make to not only put them to the left, but to take up less room.
VP, you only have 2 placeholders. I'll put the first two players on your roster.
If you want Chatman, you'll have to make a waver claim or wait until he becomes a FA.
"How to" is in post 91.

Is anyone else having a problem setting their lineups? It's telling me I have two too many bench players...I don't see extra players on my roster though.
No prob here. You roster has 24 players, just like everyone else

It looks to me like the league settings for the rosters are actually incorrect...you say you were able to set your lineup though, MJD?
This is what Guru's earlier post says: 1 QB 2 RB 3 WR 1 TE 1 K 1 Team def 1 DL 1 LB 1 DB 1 additional IDP (flex) 8 bench 21 Total
Which isn't what our settings are set as. The most obvious discrepency is that we are allowing 9 bench rather than 8...I guess the roster size is also too large by two or something...I can't tell for sure since I no longer have commish access on AOL.
I guess maybe I made this mistake when I was setting the league out...not really sure how I got both numbers wrong, it's a little strange. Maybe the RIFC rules got changed at some point?

Unlisted players During the draft, any player may be drafted, regardless of whether or not the player is listed at the hosting game site. Once the draft is completed, unlisted players may not be added to any roster. This applies for any post-draft waiver processing as well.
In the event that a drafted player is not listed after the draft has completed, a placeholder player will be assigned to the drafting team, to be replaced by the drafted player as soon as he is available.
Priority Claiming All free agents (any players not on a current roster) are subject to a weekly claiming process at noon on Wednesday. Following the first 6 weeks of the season, the priorities will reset weekly based on the reverse of W/L percentage. After that, priorities will not be reset. Throughout the season, when a player is claimed (either via "free agent priority claim" or a waiver claim), the claiming team moves to the end of the claiming priority list. Following the final regular season game, priorities will be reset based on playoff seed, with the top seed getting the top priority. Thereafter, throughout the playoffs, priorities will again adjust only when a claim is awarded.
Starting at 1:00pm on Wednesday, all free agents may be picked up by any team "first come, first served" without any change in priority status.
When a player is dropped from a roster, the player will go on waivers for 48 hours. At the end of the 48 hour period, if any team has placed a claim on the player, the team with the highest claiming priority will receive the player. If no claims are submitted, the player becomes a free agent at that time. If a player is dropped within 48 hours of his game freeze, he may not be claimed until the following week's free agent claiming process.
Starting five minutes prior to the scheduled start of each NFL game, no player in that game may be dropped, regardless of whether the player is an active or bench player.
Schedule 13 week round robin Doubleheaders all weeks 1-13 (play each team twice) Single elimination playoffs, weeks 14-16
Trades and trade deadline During the draft, trades may include draft picks. Trades will normally be approved immediately by the Commissioner, assuming they are reasonably balanced. If league managers believe an announced trade is unbalanced, they should protest the trade ASAP.
After the draft, trades will be subject to a review period. For the first 24 hours following a trade, managers may protest a trade by posting a message at the RotoGuru forum, or by sending an email to the Commissioner. If at least 3 managers protest a trade within 24 hours of its announcement, then all managers will be polled within the next 24 hours. If seven or more managers vote to veto a trade, then it will not be approved. If a proposed trade is announced less than 24 hours before the earliest freeze for any player involved, then the entire trade will not be processed until the following week.
If a trade does not receive at least 3 protests, then it will be effective 24 hours after it is announced. If a trade receives at least 3 protests but the protests are not upheld in a full league vote, then the trade will be processed 48 hours after it is announced.
The trade deadline is 11:30pm EST on November 10.
Playoffs 8 teams Top 6 W/L records are seeded 1-6 Top remaining total points are seeded 7-8 Teams with equivalent W/L records are seeded based on head-to-head first, then total points Bracket is fixed (no reseeding after each round)
Players at the primary skill positions (QB, RB, WR) and team defenses may not be added for any reason during the playoffs. Free agents at these positions will be locked out after the final regular season game. You may drop a player at one of these positions, but once dropped, that player cannot be added later.
Players at the other positions (TE, PK, IDP) may be added or dropped according to normal regular season guidelines, subject to playoff claiming priorities, if applicable.
Team which are not still active in the Championship playoffs may not make any transactions - adds or drops - even if they are still competing in the Consolation bracket.

457 Guru ID: 330592710 Wed, Aug 30, 2006, 17:07 No. For the first six weeks, priority rankings are reset each week, based on worst-to-first standings. After week 6, priorities do not reset weekly, but are carried forward from the previous week, adjusted for actual claims awarded.
At the beginning of the playoffs, priorities again reset once, this time in order of playoff seed (top seed has highest priority).
So, there is no after-effect of any preseason waiver claims.
Another sticking my head in and saw a question Judy had in her post 135.
What we have seen in RIFC the first two years is that most managers go with the same starting lineup for both of their games.
That said, there have been cases where some managers have tried to work matchups with one team and stayed with their normal starters with the other depending on who they were playing.
Not sure about the interface for the AOL site, but do know for FanBall, that you really need to pay attention to ensure that you have set both games to the starters that you want.
I have caught myself a few times in the last two years with not having set game two starters to who I wanted.
ALERT: Poor Ben R -- he had his appendix out today. Week to week recovery -- my guess is 3 weeks minimum. If you are in a FB pool, time to take Miami.
Also, yet another question. Since we are doing doubleheaders, I have 4 RB that I REALLY like, so I put two in one game (a runner and a goalliner), and two in the other game (runner and goalliner). Does that seem dumb to anyone?
