my move is finally settling down.
did the majority of it (furniture, etc etc) last friday, then every night since then took a few car loads from the old place to the new blace (only 6 blocks away).
today i'm hoping to unpack and get things into order, tomorrow, grab the last remnents from the old place, and on monday, finally concentrate on football, which means catching up on various write ups...
Spent a couple of days laid out with a stomach virus and now have company for the weekend so it may be a couple of days before I get time to finish my rationales and re cap,.

First trade, accepted among the trade participants, and looking for league approval is:
ShortBus Stalwarts trades Laurence Maroney and Shelton Quarles to Da Bomb for Keith Bulluck.

"Trades
The proposed trade has been approved and is now pending commissioner approval."

I have no doubt that this trade will not be protested, but it will still need to wait the 24 hours before I can process.
From the rules:
After the draft, trades will be subject to a review period. For the first 24 hours following a trade, managers may protest a trade by posting a message at the RotoGuru forum, or by sending an e-mail to the commissioner. If at least 3 managers protest a trade within 24 hours of its announcement, then all managers will be polled within the next 24 hours. If seven or more managers vote to veto a trade, then it will not be approved. If a proposed trade is announced less than 24 hours before the earliest freeze for any player involved, then the entire trade will not be processed until the following week.
Since none of these players are involved in the early game, I will process the trade tomorrow (assuming no protests).

before i vote on this trade, i'd like to hear some rationale behind it.
IDPs are a dime a dozen - why do you trade a running back that is a potential starter (and a danged good one at that) *and* an IDP, for a single IDP (even if he is a "star" at his position), when IDPs are, by and large, a dime a dozen.
i am very confused why the owner giving up the RB would do this trade. it makes no sense to me.

Da Bomb

IDPs are a dime a dozen
That's pretty much personal preference. Many managers in the RIFC leagues value star IDPs fairly highly, including me as well as what Doug did in the main RIFC. Bulluck was taken before Maroney (and sometimes well before) in 3 out of the 4 RIFC leagues, where the one league Maroney went before Bulluck was in AA. I did this trade purely for handcuff reasons, and say if I was offered a DeAngelo Williams or Marion Barber instead, I wouldn't consider it.

i dont think where someone is taken in a draft is relevant once the draft ends.
a back up RB who is second in the depth chart to an aging star is, to me, inherently more valuable than any IDP - heck, a RB like that is more valuable than half the starting QBs in football.
23
Tree

and for the record, it's not the person receiving Maroney that i'm questioning, but the person giving him up.
i'm just struggling with the logic in this deal, from that person's perspective.

before i vote on this trade, i'd like to hear some rationale behind it.
Okay.
First, I'm the one that proposed this trade. Before making the offer, I looked long and hard at my roster and I believed (and still do) that giving up my fourth RB for a top 5 LB is good value. I do not like the idea of giving up Maroney, but I am convinced I have a better team with Bulluck than Maroney as my #4 RB.
25
Letter_J
ID: 33501914 Thu, Sep 07, 2006, 15:49
Oh...and I ran it by a participant in the RIFC and he said he would do the trade in a heartbeat (from my end). I don't think I'm getting hosed by any means.
26
Letter_J
ID: 33501914 Thu, Sep 07, 2006, 15:54
By my count, I'm giving up the 38th RB taken and the 23rd LB taken for the 3rd LB taken. Seems like decent value to me.

...so I upgrade bigtime at LB and lose an extra player, thus enabling me to fill a hole at DL without releasing anyone else on my roster.

Tree, I know you were not questioning me. I was just pointing out that I think your logic is based on a varying opinion, and I think of an opinion that may be different than most others.
I think where players are taken in the draft does show something now, as the season hasn't started yet. Once the season starts, then yes, draft positions can be mostly thrown out, but it's not like anything major has happened to each of them to change their values. So, according to the drafts, the owners thought for the most part that Bulluck has more value than Maroney.

San Diego D doesn't look like such a bad pick, if they played Oakland each week.

If Jtserb and bmd didn't blow the curve for running backs, I would be doing alright here. I've also demonstrated that I can't select a PK worth a crap. I expect my receivers to pick return towards the league average.
Also of note, if bmd had a league average defense and kicker he would be rocking right now.

Regarding the trade, I am wondering what Fugazi was thinking but I don't think it is protestable.

What's wrong with it? Fugazi had 6 LBs, and Hawk was his least productive one, and he traded him and Schobel who's been awful for who has been the 4th highest scoring DL so far.
110
holt
ID: 10830261 Fri, Oct 06, 2006, 18:27
he was probably close to cutting schobel (10.5 pts so far?), and hawk is ok but fugazi has a bunch of IDP's. smith has never been much before but he's produced so far. if someone had offered him something better he probably would have taken it.

And concerning the trade, I do not think it is protestable either. I believe that FUGAZI will regret the trade though when Schobel starts piling up the stats in stopping the run once Spikes is back and healthy and playing WLB. It seems that teams have run away from that side of the line since Spikes went out.

Let's let this weekend play out before we discuss. The trade wouldn't go through until after lineups are due anyways. I will say that your LBs interest me more than your WRs.

After four weeks of play two things became clear. spikes is allways hurt and schobel is not getting tackles. as for hawk he just made me mad last week missing tackle after tackle.

yeah, spikes. i still haven't cut him. he has to get healthy some time doesn't he? maybe not. he's on the table btw, if anyone is interested.

Scoring was quite a bit down this week. I expect it to be even lower over the next couple as teams start to really suffer from bye weeks.
Thanks to Al Wilson I have led IDP scoring for the second straight week. My WR recovery is on hold for another week while Wayne is on bye.

Trip,
Sorry that I did not get back to you...it must have seemed rude to not respond. Unfortunately, I was out of town doing a trial all of this week (with no e-mail/internet access (that I have access to) in the small town where the trial is taking place) and only returned to town several minutes ago and checked my e-mail and saw yours.
Once again, I apologize.

wow. what a crazy game in arizona.
as the bears go, so goes my team. looked like I had blown any chance of beating tree, but those 2 defensive TD's turned it around.
sidenotes:
60-yard Jones lives up to his name once again.
I have Eli, Pennington, and Leinart at QB. I can deal one of em now. Primarily looking for an RB, but will consider an upgrade at another position if the right offer comes along.

i can't figure out why my team is so awful, although the loss of Alexander is pretty significant, i suppose.

thanks for posting the charts each week trip. especially the positional chart.
again, if you need a QB, I'm the guy you wanna talk to. i have eli, pennington, and leinart. I have some bye eek issues this week so I wanna get something done soon. preferably rb, but I'm open to other possibilities.

I know someone here can use the services of a starting RB, Leon Washington of the j-e-t-s. (Well, he possibly may ((I don't know for sure either way)) not technically be the "starter"). Regardless, he's put up 159 yards over the past 2 weeks on 4.7 ypc. Compare that to the player 2nd in rushing over the past 2 weeks, Barlow, who has just 44 yards on a measly 2.7 ypc. Anyway, I'm looking for an upgrade at most any other position.
P.S. I just used parentheses inside parentheses to create a double parentheses. If that's not grammatically correct, it should be.

I accepted the trade with Da Bomb Leon Washington and Witten for Shockey.
Hopefully Witten gets on track and Washington actually plays. Who knows, but I figure it is worth the gamble since Shockey has struggled with his injuries and isn't being used like he has in the past. That could change of course now that he says he is getting better, but I'm counting on Witten to come on as well.

I like Washington and do believe he will be the best Jets RB for the remainder of the year, but I did have an extra RB to spare. I was getting fed up with Witten but at least the bright side with him is that he can't do much worse and can only get better as the season goes on. I am slightly concerned with Shockey's injuries but he says he is getting better and is coming off his best game of the season.

still offering Leinart for an RB.

another week where i left a phenomenal amount of points on my bench.
each of the two WRs on my bench that played outscored the COMBINED TOTALS of the three i started.
the defense i benched was nearly 2 1/2 times the score of the defense i started.
the RB i benched nearly tripled the one i started.
this is the story of my season.

Sorry Slowhand. I thought you had it when I saw that last int returned. Third highest score so far this year though. And I'm betting you are the all time highest scoring loser in RIFC history.
Stats and standings will be posted shortly.

It does not appear that Manning or Romo received their points (1) for 2-point conversion passes in the this week's games. I will wait and see if it picks them up. I have verified that it is set up correctly in the system, but wanted to make everyone aware of the issue. If it doesn't pick them up, I will manually adjust the scores on Tuesday.

FYI...week 7 charts were off. I forgot to change the number of weeks in those calculations.

I'm sorry, but can someone explain to me what these charts represent? I think I understand "Average points per slot per game, by position" to be the average of each active player per position averaged over all the weeks. But what is "Average points per slot by position "? and why are lots of the columns the same as the chart "Total point differential impact per game, by position"? Does "Average points per slot by position" contain the average for every player on your roster at that position whether in the active lineup or not also including bye-weeks? I'm sure this was discussed before and I must have missed it.

First table is average by all players per position.
The other tables show the difference between a teams position's performance and the average at that position.
The second table shows the cumulative difference while the third table divides by the number of starting slots at a given position.

Trade offer received (and rejected...not that the league would approve it anyway) today: (posted as a reminder that this is only a game...to some of us)
Requestor:...Da Bomb Squad
Offers: RB Laurence Maroney(r), NE RB Corey Dillon, NE WR Antonio Bryant, SF
Acceptor:Texas Taxes
For: QB Jon Kitna, DET RB Larry Johnson, KC RB Michael Bennett, KC
verily...we be known by the trade offers we make.

a) Opening offers are usually feelers b) It's not inconceivable to think that Dillon/Maroney will outpoint Johnson/Foster(your RB2) the rest of the way as Deangelo Williams' return will be sure to hurt his value. c) Bryant is an upgrade over your 3rd WR d) Kitna doesn't start for you
It's usually appreciated if one counters first before crying to the rest of the rotoguru community. If the season ended today, you would not make the playoffs. Usually teams outside of the playoffs like to shake up their teams. Not saying you should have accepted this offer, it is OK not like an offer, but it is immature to post an offer. I've received plenty of poor offers, much worse than this mind you, from other rotogurupies yet you don't see me making posts each time.

so, do i get some kind of reward for continuing to manage my team through the ongoing suck that it is?

I think it's great anytime someone actively manages their team the whole season. (I noticed someone in this league started Steve Smith this past week - his bye week).

yea, but we've all been in plenty of leagues were the manager of a team who fared as poorly as i did in the first half drops off the face of the earth.

That was me but it was stupidity, not laziness. I was sure I had put Furrey in Smith's place -- should have checked my lineup one more time.

"Opening offers are usually feelers"
So here is my "opening offer" and the response:
Texas Taxes was offering: QB Jon Kitna, DET WR Randy Moss, OAK To receive from Da Bomb Squad: WR Terrell Owens, DAL WR Marques Colston, NO
Message from declining owner: Jerk
Hint to declining owner...shouldn't make "opening offers" if you are embarrassed when published. Can't argue with your labeling me a jerk, but if true, today, I will be a jerk with you ..in the day light...for all to enjoy.
So to look at your support of the fairness of your trade:
Bryant in 2006 wks 1-2: 8 rec for 252 yrds 1 TD wks 3-9: 20 rec for 245 yrds 1TD My #3 (?) Kotchery: wks 1-2 12 rec 186 yrds 2 TD wks 3-9 23 rec 275 yrds 1 TD If my #3 ins Matt Jones..who knows, he has been injured all year. Bryant isn't an upgrade.
How do you know Kitna is not my starting QB? I've started three different QBs this year. Why should I give hime to you with the top (or 2nd best) RB in fantasy football in exchange for the NE RB hand-cuff neither of which is a stand alone starter?
A lop sided offer is exactly that. Your BS is short on the "B" and long on the "S"

shouldn't make "opening offers" if you are embarrassed when published I'm not embarrassed in the least. I just find it astounding that you found this offer so amazingly horrible that you felt you needed to tell the world about it. By doing such a thing combined with your "counteroffer" of something that you knew was going to be rejected led to my labeling of jerk. I really think you should take your own advice of this being "a game" and not get so upset over something such as a trade offer. It's ok not to like an offer, just reject it or counter it and move on; don't be a child and whine about it. It's not worth getting this upset over. What I wonder now is what your reaction would be if I had made this offer during tax season.

toral, if I remember right, having furrey benched didn't end up changing the outcome of either of your games. good to hear that it was just a mistake.
tree, it is definitely appreciated. several teams in our league are battling for a playoff spot, and even the teams that are out of contention play a pivotal role in deciding it. there are several gurupies I know of who chronically go inactive when things don't go their way. maybe they think people don't notice or care, but they couldn't be more wrong. what's really irritating is when one of them continues to be active on the boards while leaving their team untouched for weeks. hate that.
can we start a new thread. this one is slow to load now.
