0 Subject: Survivor Week II

I'm sure some of you visit the football guys. Here's some musings from them for week 1.

Vince Young was the 3rd QB selected with the third overall pick since 1996. The other two were Akili Smith and Joey Harrington. I'm just sayin'....

Forbes magazine recently ranked Milwaukee Wisconsin as the "Most Drunken City" in America.
http://www.forbes.com/2006/08/22/nightlife-cities-drunk_cx_de_nightlife06_0822intro.html
Is Green Bay down the road really the best place for new Packer wide receiver Koren Robinson? I'm just asking....

You probably know that Robinson was recently arrested for driving under the influence. He’s had a history of struggles there. The Vikings quickly cut Robinson after the incident and seemed pretty proud of themselves for taking what they seemed to think was the moral high ground. It did seem a little odd watching coach Brad Childress address the media Monday night with the official Miller Lite press conference backdrop hanging behind him…. Pick a lane, Zygi. And pay Brad Johnson while you’re at it.

The Good News: It was all a bad dream. The Texans did in fact manage to acquire the Heisman Trophy winning running back they desired.

The Bad News: It's Ron Dayne.

Note to Mike Irvin, Pee Wee Herman called and wants his tie back.

Is it a bad sign for Raider fans that Tony Mandarich was spotted Tuesday sporting a Robert Gallery jersey?...

By now you’ve seen the video of Dolphins’ coach Nick Saban sheepishly tossing the challenge flag on the field while the Steelers kicked the extra point after Heath Miller’s score. Because the officials did not see the challenge, the play stood. Said Saban after the game, "They said they didn't see it. Whose fault is that?"

Ummm, Coach, that would be "you".

I feel ednecks call...sorry that I have been out of the loop so long..Supa Mario left the other day and I have twice the work load, plus not much has been going on on (you like that) the other board.....bad to see BSB/Jeff out in th first week..not good for the new guys as far as retention..it should have been ednecks...damn 8-ball!

I don't think we have to worry about player retention -- the product sells itself.

Does anyone want to do a survivor pool for the rest of the year? The type where you pick one team a week to win and you survive as long as they win. The catch is you can only pick a team once. We can do it starting in week 3 for $20. I think we have a trust factor with the guys in the league, so we can just have everyone send their $20 to the winner.

I feel completely out of the loop. At least I wasn't the first off the rock. Can someone send me a sheet to hobdy@tiscali.co.uk

Software predictions are at 50%, or if you prefer 100% for WP and 0% for RW. Here is this weeks software goodbyes; WP - SupaMario, RW - STB.
Also, did we change the way TE and/or WR receptions are scored? I like my software to be as up to date as possible.

RW looks like a dogfight between GCobb and Midget Maulers.

WP looks to be between JHHH and BSB. BSB without Steve Smith and Greg Jones. JHHH without Trent Green.

Seems funny last weeks losers both had D. Davis, Houshman and Kitna..Glad to see S. Jackson gone.

Funny how when you get kicked off the rock the very next week your one of top scorer's.

Edneck looks safe, I look to have a pretty above average team in both leagues, Grossman QB points are saving me in the WP..Delhomme without Smith is a joke..

JHHH said before the games that losing T. Green and Roth this week would bite him in the Arse..looks like it might!!

Still waiting on Joe to board that boat off the rock!!

He keeps saying software and I keep hearing Draft Dominator. I suppose that is software, but crude at best. 1) Input yearly projection, 2) Input SOS, 3) Kick out weekly score. Without a time machine, it is a guessing game.

This is the 2nd week in a row that I am scraping the bottom of Reggie White. At a quick glance it looks liek Gcobb is in bigger trouble, though.

Little Joe's lucky Cobb is doing so poorly, otherwise his QB totals of -2,-4 would be going home this week and him and the other Cartwright brothers could go ride their horsey's on the Ponderosa and the.

GCobb going home early again, he takes to many risks in this format, taking 2 WR's in the first 2 rounds is risky at best...

Awful quiet in here. I guess people aren't enjoying this league as much as I thought. Here's a simple analysis of the top 5 scoring teams in each division.

Reggie White
Terry Tate (250 points)
QB: C
Michael Vick and Kyle Boller. Boller won't make an appearance unless McNair gets hurt, which will be around week 8. For anyone that has had Vick can attest, that man is the model of inconsistency. Enjoy the ride while it lasts.

RB: C
Rudi/Jacobs/M Anderson. Rudi is a bonafide stud and will put up consistent points, but Tiki or Jamal would have to get injured for the other two to put up consistent numbers.

WR: B+
Harrison/Coles/Winslow/Shockey. Definite strength of the team. Why hasn't Marvin slowed down yet? Looks like he'll have another stellar top 3 year, despite being downgraded in predraft rankings. Coles will be good as long as Pennington stays healthy. Shockey and Winslow provide nice depth.

Hump Week: Week 5
Vick and Rudi on byes and Boller probably still on the bench. That leaves a hole at QB and probably RB.

Analysis: Pretender

RBP (206)
QB: A+
Eli and Warner are a great combo to have at QB rivaled only by the Tribe's WP combo of Palmer and Warner. It's hard to believe that Warner is the #2 in both leagues considering the QB situation on some teams.

RB: B-
McGahee/M Barber/Toefield. It looks like Buffalo will be better than expected, which will result in more carries for McGahee. He looks to be a legit top 10 RB. Marion will get his touches, but could turn into a steal if J Jones gets hurt. Toefield may be the starter if/when Fred gets hurt.

WR: B+
TO/Bryant/Keyshawn/McMichael. Losing TO for a few weeks shouldn't hurt too much. The question is can you count on him towards the end of the season. Bryant has looked great, but that guy is a poor man's TO. He's an incident waiting to happen -- serious head case. Keyshawn and McMichael are solid. (Hard to believe that Keyshawn is the sanest receiver on RBP's roster)

Hump Week: Week 8
Hard pressed to come up with a real hump week because of the QB depth and wise bye week management, but week 8 could be a problem if Toefield and M Barber aren't starting. That leaves a hole at RB with MCGahee on a bye. McMichael is also on a bye and TO and Barber have to go to Carolina (Keyshawn). That game will go a long way towards deciding the fate of this team.

Analysis: Contender (Odds on favorite)

Shak (199)
QB: A-
McNabb/Losman. McNabb is the league's #1 QB after two weeks. He should be a shoo-in top 3 QB. Losman is just a bye week fill in (faces GB during McNabb's bye).

RB: B
Parker/Gore/Haynes. Gore and Parker have looked good so far, but they are young unproven RBs. Odds are, they will face injury problems this year. If they stay healthy, this is a very nice combo.

WR: B
Muhammad/M Jones/Gates/Watson. Muhammad is underrated and should be a consistent scorer now that Chicago has decent QBs. M Jones could be a star in the making or a stiff. Gates and Watson are solid TEs, even if Gates was a serious reach in the 2nd round.

Hump Week: Week 9.
McNabb and Kasay on byes. Losman will need to carry the load at home vs. GB. In all liklihood, it won't be bye weeks, but rather injuries that will decide the fate of this team.

Analysis: Contender (until injuries hit)

TrashHaulers (187)
QB: B-
Hasselbeck/Griese. This looked like a lot better combo a couple of weeks ago, when Grossman was struggling.

RB: B
LT/Henry/White. I love LT, but I can't give anything higher than a B to a team that has two Titan RBs.

WRs: B-
Chambers/A Johnson/Bruce/Galloway. Unfortunately, three of these receivers are playing with struggling QBs. Chambers will probably still be a top 10 WR, but the other three can go flat on any given week.

Hump Week: Week 5
I was going to say week 7, with 4 players on byes, but it's 3 scrubs and Bruce. I think week 5 when Hasselbeck is on a bye, leaving a donut for QB points. LT playing vs. the Steelers on Sunday night could be the decider.

Analysis: Pretender

JHHH (176)
QB: C
Simms/Rivers. Simms has looked terrible and Rivers will not be asked to throw much. Nothing to get excited about here.

RB: B-
LJ/Rhodes/Alstott/Staley. Can't give any lower grade than B- for a team that has LJ, but I don't like the other 3 RBs. Only Rhodes has a chance to do anything this year of the 3.

WR: C+
Wayne/Horn/Gonzo. I like Wayne, but I think Horn and Gonzo are in for down years. Gonzo had a good first week and may have better numbers if/when Green returns, but he may be asked to do more pass blocking too.

Hump Week: Week 3
It's usually a good strategy to get done with the bye weeks early, but this may be a little too much. Week 3 has LJ, Rivers, and Gonzo sitting. Confidence won't be high with Simms facing an angry Carolina defense.

Analysis: Pretender

Shak you know as well as me, that things change up pretty quick in this format, so pretender or contender will change with one bad injury or depending on the weekly matchup. Not telling you anything you don't know! Yeah the enthusiasm is missing this year, I still enjoy it, so I hope it doesn't die out.

Your looking good in both leagues, I said that about somebody last year and they fell apart right after that...groundhog day!

I have the same type of teams I had last year, not great each week, but always consistently above average, I never had immunity one time last year and won one of the divisions...Hard to say who wins it this year, I do like TB, RBP Tribe and Trashs, TT teams and of course yourself. I think the following players lose their jobs before long: J. Lewis, T. Jones, Foster, Brunell, Kitna, and Delhomme if S. Smith doesn't play, he looks terrible.

The Dev column is the amount that needs to be deducted (or added) to the total score shown on the flea flicker site. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't we say last year that you cannot receive a negative score for a player. If that is the case, you will get 0 points for your QB, instead of -2.

Why does espn ednecks continue to state that the Panthers are a contender and will be back in the flow of things as soon as Smith returns. Dont get me wrong, Smith is a great player...but is a team that good if they struggle this much because one player is missing? Thats a pretty weak team in my humble opinion.

IMO if a player scores negative points he should recieve them. Joe you never have anyhing nice to say about anyone but the eagles and we'll not talk about how they blew that game to the Giants. I think S. Smith is that important to the Panthers, he makes something out of nothing and the defense has to account for him all over the field. I'm not saying Delhomme will be the next Joe Montana but his stats and TD's will improve with him on the field. I got rid of S. Smith and Jordan in a league before the season started because I could see problems coming for both of those players, yes I am that good Joe!!

Yes Roth wasn't ready to play against the Jags, but I give him credit for giving it a go, Batch wouldn,'t have faired any better. I know one thing I don't want my players going up against the Ravens, Jags, SD and CHI, they won't look that pretty come Monday morning...

Take Stallworth and Westbrook away from the Eagles and McNabb wouldn't have the sucess he's had so far this season. I like McNabb, always have but without a decent RB and WR on the field he would just be average.

I think we need a commish ruling on the negative points. I'm too lazy to look thru last year's threads.

Glad to see TT make an appearance on the board. If I knew you were going to read this I may have made you a contender. Nah, forget that. I'll see if I can come up with my WP review today. Just not enough hours in the duty day to get all these things done!

Edneck, I used to be a McNabb detractor, but he has definitely earned my respect. Maybe you were just saying that about McNabb to yank Joe's chain, but I disagree. McNabb is not a Culpepper! In fact, he is much better than Delhomme even. Can you imagine if McNabb had a receiver like Steve Smith? We saw how special McNabb could be when he had TO and we've seen McNabb persevere when he's had no WRs. He is one of those special QBs that makes his WRs look better than they are -- hell, he made no talent guys like Freddy Mitchell and Todd Pinkston famous. He will now make Stallworth a much better player than he is. And no way does TO have a year like he had 2 years ago.

Shak I'm pretty sure neg points were not given last year. I just think If you have a stat that gives you a negative then it should count even if it's below zero. It relects how he truly performed. Not really that important to me, but it could mean the difference between a win and a lose.
32Edneck

I agree on McNabb, he has performed in the past without much talent around him, he's scoring in the 30's now, I just think without Westbrook and Stallworth he loses about 10 points a week. Stallworth is a talented WR, but from what I could tell McNabb seems to have all day to throw his passes this year. I was just saying a QB has to have some talent around him, otherwise he'll be average at best. I'm a McNabb fan, Joe has to take the opposite of whatever i say, he lives in a Philly drugged haze!!

Edneck, I think last year I was on the losing side of the negative points argument. I agree, if that's what was earned, that's what should be scored. I (we) were overruled. Unless the commish says otherwise, I'm going to turn the negatives to zeroes.

As for McNabb, you are right about his supporting cast, especially his line. They may not run block all that well, but they are very good at pass protection. To have only one sack and very little pressure vs. the Giants line was very impressive. As far as trading away Smith in the LMSCL, I'm also happy I traded him away, although it wouldn't have mattered on my underperforming team. Adrian Peterson is all mine (unless I trade the pick away again).

Speaking of Adrian, how about the job the zebras did in that Oregon/Oklahoma game? That was a crime. I was listening to the game on Sirius and was tuned in to the Oklahoma broadcast. Their announcers were going ballistic over the calls. No doubt, they got robbed. It may be a while before Stoops plays a Pac 10 team again.

On Steve Smith everything I read before the season started said he would struggle with that bad hammy all year, thought it best to trade him while he was still hot. Jordan, even though he performed well last year, I could see without his recieeing yards he would be very average in Oakland, plus I've never liked Brooks very much. Was happy to get P. manning and Fitz for Jordan and McNabb.

I only saw the replay on TV about the bad call and it was defintely highway robbery. A. Petersen will be huge in the NFL, he's a tough SOB, that's the only bad thing about finishing in the top 3 in leagues, you never get a chance at the nice RB's the following year.

I'll try and give some predictions about the coming week like we did last year. I like how we graded each teams chances on a 1-10 scale..

I will take it a step further smart guy, you take any QB's number one running back and number one WR (even though Mcnabb claims Brown is his number one)and he wont be quite as good....wow, you really went out on the limb with that one. Furthermore, at least I have the balls to say who my team is...cause as long as I have been in this league I dont think you have even said who your team was...is it that you are ashamed (browns/thats my guess) or just modest (Patriots)...IM going with the browns....now please remember IM saying this all with a smile on my face so dont think I am being an a$$ when I write this.....ok, since you brought it up, yes the Eagles choked...the average QB McNAbb (except when he has a RB and WR) and the Eagles played like a superbowl team and choked in the end...i watched it..it sucked for me, alot..but you know what....at least Im not a browns fan.

OK, since I am still in my philly haze I will keep complaining..after all no one else is talking here....number one I am very upset about the Kearse injury, he is my favorite player on the team (tied with Dawkins anyway) and that injury would have never happened if we did not choke. Number two, (these all involve overtime...and I realize we choked and put ourself in this position..but still we were in overtime and had a game to play...right?) Why did the refs not use replay for the TE catch....or was it a dawkins INT....replays look like Dakins had it first when they were on the ground...USE THE REPLAY IF YOU HAVE IT. The third thing is I noticed a little push off on the game winning TD catch..actually, I did not notice it at first when the game was ongoing due to the tears building around my eyes. However, the next day a bunch of texas guys here (DALLAS FANS...UGH) mentioned it to me in the chow hall. And tonight they showed it like 12 times on NFL live and yes there was a little push. Not that big, but enough for the WR to gain a better position over our dwarf DB...ok, one more thing, the worst thing about that loss is that it was little Manning...they will be talking about this forever now, and I cant stand manning...they actually called it "The drive" the other day on ESPN..I really hope that does not stick.

Joe you crack me up, I don't talk about my Browns since they actually became the Ravens and I lost that loving feeling, plus i'm not so obsessed I have to mention them every single post. Ok since your being a smartass, Dallas losing TO or Jones would not affect them that much, Barber and Glenn would just step up, Philly lost TO last year and the team fell apart and McNabb looked terrible, he had noone to throw the ball too. I was just making a point, yeah your right it wasn't a revelation or something to right home to mom about.

If you watched the replay on the Burress TD the Dback actually runs into Burress and he just stops himself from tripping over the guy by putting his hand out to avoid contact, I saw nothing of a pushoff or anything..you didn't get robbed, you got embarassed in a game you thought was over and your team was thinking about the after game party instead of finishing the game off...

Joes mom says:
Hmmmmm, well, I can’t argue with you except for the fact I will. Besides look at all the stuff I wrote below. We did not suck last year because of TO, I hate that excuse, it gives him to much credit..he hurt us, but he did not doom us although he wants you to think that due to the FACT that he is gods gift to ANY Football team...we lost cause we had NINE starters on IR for most the year and I think 18 total...(not sure about the 18 thing..I will check though..the nine starters is certain)..and yes McNabb looked horrible cause I think...no, wait, I know he was hurt as well, so was our number two WR Pinkston and our number 2 RB Buckhalter, both on the IR ALL season along with an injury hampered Westbrook. So we had a rookie Reggie Brown and an unproven Greg lewis as our starters and third string Mahe and/or Moats (who is damn good when he played) as our RB. Your right McNabb and the Eagles had no excuses from a nationalized ESPN point of view for sucking except for the loss of TO…now lets play a game!

Just imagine a Cowboy’s team with a hurt TO and Glenn, and injury hampered Jones and IR'd number 2 RB Barber. I’m sure your boy Bledsoe (also playing injured at the time dont forget about that) would have thrived in that environment. Lets not even get into the Defensive or special team ok. You can play this game with any team.....the outcome will be pretty consistent. The only recent team this would not work with would be the SB winning ravens who had no O anyway…but then we can look at Defense injuries

The push off topic, I was ggoing to ask you to give that to me but decided I will satisfy myself and prove you wrong once again buddy. The aforementioned WR slowed down to find the ball which caused the contact then applied pressure with his hands to the aforementioned DB body..AKA, a push off, watch it again if you must..you will see, you just dont want to cause you just had to argue with poor little Joe (by the way, today is my birthday….20 SEP..I almost forgot). You will never see that though just like "Stealer" fans will alway Believe that they won the super bowl fairly. (speaking of which play that injury game with the Seahawks too...its fun) And no, my first two posts prior to my Eagle tirade were about non Eagle related topics...the Steelers and your boy Smith..so I dont mention them in every post although you stated I did...now finally maybe if you had a team that was good enough to actually let you down sometimes (hehehe)you could show a little obsession as well. Nothing but love ednecks. At least you did not make a Dawkins replay comment.

Sorry one more thing..I know we blew that game..I said that already, so you saying that to prove a point is really not needed....we both agree upon that..the whole free world and some of cuba agrees with that. But what I am saying is that regardless of the fact that we should have never been in OT, the refs should have called a better game in overtime..or at least use Instant replay...that is not to much to ask..is it? Instant replay would have shown a possible Dawkins INT, therefore we could have lost from another westbrook fumble rather then a TD.

TB I've never been called a puss, but I still follow the Browns and never said I didn't I don't jump on Bandwagon teams like the Steelers, Patriots, Dallas either. I never liked the move and I still don't like the move and I'll never move out or on, the subject still pisses me off and calling me a Puss just pisses me off even more, If I had Art Modell, Joe and You in a room right now I'd hate to say what would happen...:-)

C'mon, we all know you would ask me and Joe to leave. Art ripped the heart out of a lot of Brown's fans. More than "The Drive" or "The Fumble" ever could. At least you will always have Byner and Mack in Tecmo Bowl. That was one kick-a$$ team.

I was kidding about the whole Puss-thing, so don't get your boxing gloves out just yet. I do agree about bandwagon teams and would add the 49ers to the list. You couldn't find a dozen 49er fans outside of California prior to 1981. I don't know about the Steelers and Cowboys, though. They have had success throughout each decade.

TB I was just kidding about the Puss thing, I've been known to cry at sad movies. TB I go back to the late 60's listening to Indians/Browns games on the radio with my dad being overseas we had no US TV, most of the time AFN was a one channel deal. I've been a diehard fan forever so I wasn't pleased with Art when he moved that team, I'll admit I wish for the Old Browns type teams back, but things change and you live with the loses, I've been waiting on the Indians for 40 years now to win the WS...it will be another 40 before that happens.

Ed...come one, give me a break here. I almost had the best birthday ever. I wake up this morning check ESPN and see that my Phillies were able to gain some ground in the wild card race and see my best buddy wrote me on Rotoguru (you). And I read this, petty name calling???? Writing about taking advantage of me and TB in a small dark room while Art Modell holds TB down and I take it like a man.....wow..expected more from you my nizzle...getting back to work now. I want you to think about what you did wrong!

Happy Birthday Joe. I've had time to reflect and TB taking it up the nizzle made me laugh. Go out and celebrate, I think you need to find a nice girl who can steal your heart away from the Phillies.
