Last week I had planned to make my predictions for both divisions, but I was sidetracked by the Cory Lidle tragedy and the my kids’ fall break. As for my WP predictions, three of the four teams I predicted to be in trouble finished in the bottom four, but Stevo bailed them out with a stinker of a week. Thanks for ruining my picks, Steve! Luckily for Steve, he still has his 18th ranked RW team to cheer on.

This week in the WP. Ednecks has immunity and it looks like this week’s loser won’t be decided until late Monday night.

Teams in jeopardy:
Tribe – We’ll start this week with last week’s bubble team and the 2nd lowest ranking team still alive. The Tribe’s troubles seem to come in twos this week (double jeopardy?). He has two WRs hurt (Stallworth and Fitzgerald), two benchwarmers (Warner and Toefield), and two special Ks – but only one player on a bye (Benson). That means six likely donuts. The Tribe can only hope to survive if Julius joneses the G-Men on Monday night.

Joefut – The 3rd lowest ranking team still alive makes a long overdue appearance in this column. Joe should be a weekly guest just for having Culpeper and Griese as his QBs (Volek wasn’t available?). Aside from the QB donut, Joe will also be without the services of Bruce and J Lewis. Oh, and don’t forget about Barlow, who can’t beat out Leon freaking Washington. Joe will know early where he stands as five of his six players play in the early games. Hopefully for Joe, he won’t need the idiot kicker to bail him out on MNF.

Grim Reaper – A very special guest in this week’s column is the #1 ranked GR. The GR will have Givens, Horn, and Wilkins chilling this week. Alexander looks like he’ll be extending his vacation thru the next couple of weeks. Brad Johnson is just a bye week filler for Donovan, so that’s another non-scorer. That leaves GR with McNabb and four scrubs (Rhodes, M Barber, Evans, and Wilford). I know McNabb is good, but how is this the highest scoring team in the league? GR may need Donovan to score 40 points at the Pirate Ship to survive.

Back Street Boys – The last spot was a toss up between the #7 BSB and the #8 Harmon. BSB gets the nod based on having one less available scorer. BSB also hit the bye week trifecta by having Gore, Mason, and Troupe out this week. Greg Jones is on a year long remote and Kevin Curtis has been MIA. Toss out the lower score of Frye/Plummer and BSB is now down to four scorers. Unless Superman Steve Smith torches the Bungles, BSB will be right in the hunt for 7th off the island.

Head: When I initially started writing, I thought the Tribe would be going on the long march, but now I’m not so sure. I’ll go ahead and stick with the Tribe as the odds on fave.

Heart: How can you not love the #1 ranked team reeling? Reaper (and McNabb) must go before Alexander gets healthy!

Gut: Tough, tough call, but my gut says the Cowboys rescue the Tribe and the Reaper reaps no more. The Tribe will have its say and the top ranked Reaper will be the 7th off the rock.

This week in the RW. The Trashman has immunity, but it looks like the handwriting is on the wall for a rookie manager.

Teams in jeopardy:
Gumsellers – My good friend, SJ, made the critical rookie mistake of having a bad bye week experience relatively late in the season. The GS will have half his team on byes, to include both QBs. SJ, this is not the PI. You can’t just give half your Gumsellers the week off and hope to survive. There’s no charity in the land of the big BX. SJ must hope and pray that Ahman is healthy and scores big vs. the Fish. Big days from Ahman and Steve Smith may be enough to get the GS through a very tough bye week hell.

Ednecks – Mr. Ed has immunity in WP, but makes the list here. He has two bye players in T Jones and Ma Clayton (not talking about sexual orientation, Joe), and two players nursing boo boos in DeAngelo and Booker. That leaves Mr. Ed with five scorers. It looks like the Ednecks could give the Gumsellers a run for their pesos, at least until MNF, when Ednecks will roll with Tiki and Witten.

Steve – I’m hurting for jeopardy contestants this week, so I’ll list Steve here. He blindsided me last week in the WP with a piss poor performance, so I should list him here just based on principle (and the fact that he’s the proud owner of the lowest scoring team in either division). Steve will be without his all-world QB (McNair) and will also get a K-glazed donut. That leaves him with eight slackers, err, I mean players, including randy moss (LOSER). Steve should be safe as long as his team of underperformers can pull their heads’ out of their butts and score a TD or two.

Head: Lonely nights in the PI, looks like the Gumsellers need to find another market.

Heart: Anyone but Steve – I need to keep him around so I can poke fun at his 18th ranked team.

Gut: Gumsellers better start shopping for bikinis cause they are done selling gum. See ya next year, SJ.

Its not how you start, but how you finish that matters. Don't forget Moss plays AZ this week so he should bust it out.

I made the list finally. I can see Boldin, Barber, Brady and Witten getting me just enough..They have a bad game Monday night then I'm finished. Fingers crossed.

BSB your not coaching nothing, you drafted a good team, after that your coaching means nothing, just means you got lucky and drafted the right players, not any genius roster moves making you a winner from week to week...write that down. Yeah your chances are good if you get by this week.

Ed, I figure AZ is gonna lose, so someone has to score points and I don't think it will be the Raider D. Also, he doesn't need to get 100 yards, short TDs are fine. I'm hearing on the radio here that Denny Green could be out of a job next Monday if they lose. I'd like AZ to lose just for that media frenzy.

Walter isn't going to throw a 100 yards to anyone. Well seeing as how Moss is only averaging about 7 points per game. I'm sure the whole Raiders team is not averaging above 10/game. How about an over/under 11 points?

No Big deal you just said Moss would breakout this week...and I don't think he'll have that big a game...I hope I'm wrong I might have to play him in a league..Yes i'm that bad..Believe me if the bet had a even chance, Shak would be all over it like RBP on a Chilly dog.

Larry Coker Fights For His Job By Swinging Helmet At Athletic Director, Chancellor
October 19, 2006 | Onion Sports

CORAL GABLES, FL—University of Miami head football coach Larry Coker, afraid of being scapegoated and fired in the wake of Saturday's brawl involving Hurricanes players and those from Florida International University, defended himself by suspending 13 players, taking full responsibility for disciplining his team, and swinging a Hurricanes football helmet at the heads of athletic director Paul Dee and chancellor Donna Shalala during a press conference Wednesday. "What happened was unfortunate and does not reflect our character as a team or my philosophy as a coach," said Coker, grasping the helmet by the faceguard and delivering repeated blows to Shalala's face and neck. "However, I believe that dismissing me at this time would in fact send the wrong message about discipline to our players and the wrong message about the University of Miami to the public." Dee was physically unable to comment or breathe after the press conference, but Shalala seemed to indicate that she would handle the matter internally as soon as she stopped bleeding internally.

Coker is done. The bad thing is that he was an assistant coach years ago under Earl Bruce at Ohio State. He was on the same staff with Jim Tressel of all people.

I have a feeling that Butch Davis will come back to Miami before next season.

I'm not touching that game. This would appear to be the Raiders only chance to win this season, and Green's job is on the line. This could be the game of the week on NFL replay. Just because Moss scores more than 10 points this week doesn't mean the Raiders will win. How many points do I get?

I thought Green going off was hilarious, but more importantly I thought it was what the team needed to hear. If they fire him they are fools. He is a good coach who has helped assemble a much improved team. They are a couple offensive linemen away from being serious contenders. I wouldn't be surprised to seem them crush the Raiders. The Raiders have no heart right now. Coaching and management have lost the team. Losing sucks and is habit forming. Sapp, Moss, and Porter have all been running their mouths when the camera is in their face. Shell's return looks to be short-lived and just maybe he might look back on his decision to hire bed-n-breakfast Walsh. That offense should be much better. The answer is somewhere between crappy play-calling/offensive scheme, piss-poor execution on the line, and ineffective communication between the players and coaches.

Ednecks don't get upset because I am doing a better coaching job than you are. Just because your players aren't responding to your tactics, it doesn't give you credence to take away from the job I am doing.

Now, if I can only get my boy G. Jones to do anything this week it will be a big plus. I think the rest from the bye week has done him good and he will put up big numbers on Sunday.

Ok BSB, my tactics just got me a immunity. How many teams you got left? Your doing a fine job with that 1 team...you keep coaching bud!

TB Raiders trying to justfity why Oakland is so bad, try looking at Al DAvis and the buck stops there, We all know he makes all final decisions on players and Coaches. I think Good players don't always make good coaches and Art Shell doesn't have a clue. I'll agree Moss and Jordan are not the reason for the colapse, they have no QB to get them the ball all you got to do is stack the line and stop Jordan because I can throw better then that clown playing QB.

Not really trying to justify it. If it wasn't for football, I probably wouldn't play other fantasy sports. I spend all year looking forward to the football season and then the team I am fanatical about starts off 0-5. Serious frustration. I am pissed about the teams performance. Fans can make all the excuses they want about coaching changes and scheme changes, but Gallery is a bust and none of the other linemen crack many other teams starting rosters. When you can't protect the QB or open rushing lanes, the offense is going to suck. When the defense spends as much time on the field, or is constantly headed back out to the field after a 3 and out, or taking the field after an offensive turnover or special teams play that allows the other team to start a drive on the "wrong" side of the field, they are eventually going to give up the big play. It is just one big headache right now. The Raiders need leadership and I do not define leadership as being the loud or bossy guy "laying down the law". How about someone that inspires them to do more than they believed they were capable of? Teaching, coaching, and mentoring. Creating an environment that inspires people to work harder? I really liked the direction the team was headed and was very optimistic before the season began that they would be a good team this year. I still believe they have most of the talent they need to be a good team. I just don't have confidence in the o-line (which means change what you are doing in your protection schemes) or the coaching. I am also not a Randy Moss fan. I would rather have rookie receivers hustling every play than an overpaid, whining vet who doesn't give his all every minute he's on the field. Sure, when he plays hard he is amazing, but when it's a rushing play and he jogs five yards and starts walking back to the line it ticks me off.

I did see the catch, but not live. I was in the gym watching it on a replay of the game. I had my headphones on listening to music. I must have had the music up too loud because when I saw the catch, I thought I muttered "Holy cow". I had everyone in the gym looking at me because I must have shouted it. Truly a great catch. Can't blame Edmonds for getting doubled up on that one.

Interesting how BSB thinks there is coaching going on here. The draft is the only time you are a coach, the rest you just add numbers up.

TB, I will admit the Raiders look terrible this year. You have ALL kinds of problems at WR with Moss and Porter. I don't see why they don't trade them before there names get tarnished even more. Hell, the Packers are good at taking over troubled players and they are certainly heading for a high first round pick this year!! I would have to say that the only team I could think of that was pretty much terrible, but would win games is Detroit with Barry Sanders. That guy could carry the entire team on his back.

Ok, I have had time to think about this and I still am not that worried about the last game. Yes it sucks...another loss as time expired due to a FG (WTF 62 yards).

The way I see it is this is just the week of upsets. Texans beat Jacksonville, Chiefs beat Chargers and the Raiders beat a team not on a video game. So, a good team in philly lost too..but we were not dominated like the other contenders.

We lost cause the best QB in football (stats dont lie) threw two picks for TD's, the D only give up 11 points (All FG's and extra points) The eagles gain over 500 yards in total O, while holding the bucs to under 200. So our D was not our problem. Westbrook had over 200 total yards! I will blame this on the 4 turnovers and the 30 yards worth of penalties with like 30 seconds left in the game that set up the 62 yard FG. So if our biggest problem in this game was our PRO BOWL QB had an off game (300+ 3,3) then I will accept that and look forward to the next game. The glass is half full for me. Ednecks, send me your address, I will gladly buy you a Winslow Jersey!

I don't mean to keep bagging on Philly fans, but this is too good not to pass on:

PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - The father of a young football player pulled a gun on his son's coach because he didn't think the boy was getting enough playing time, Philadelphia police said on Monday.

Wayne Derkotch, 40, was charged with aggravated assault after getting in a fight with the coach over the amount of time the boy was getting on the field at a game for 6- and 7-year-olds on Sunday morning, said police spokesman Officer Raul Malveiro.

"There was a physical altercation about what child should play or not play and then he pulled the gun," Malveiro said.

There were no injuries and Derkotch fled before being arrested after a complaint was made by the coach, whose name was not released, Malveiro said.

I dont get it Shak...where in the post does it say it was an Eagles fan? Don’t get me wrong, I thought it was funny, and I appreciated what my father did for me…but just because this was in Philly does not make it one of those “evil, mean spirited, ruthless and whatever else” eagle fans. This youth sport crazed parental sh!t has been going on forever….and most of it is in the heartland my friend not in the dirty northeast. Unfortunately, due to a lack of media (lack of technology) and mass inbreeding, these reports are rarely published and not as well known.

Joe, I think we can safely assume the father is very passionate about football. We also know he lives in Philly. Is it really a huge jump to therefore assume he is a Philly fan? Regardless, I think this kind of aggressive behavior is much more common in the city of Brotherly Love... for whatever reason.

True, parents have always gone over the edge concerning youth sports, but I do believe this sets the bar at an all-time low. Pulling a gun on a coach for a 6-7 year old football game. I've coached a lot of youth sports and typically the parents of 6-7 year olds are not nearly as aggressive as you'd find for older kids. This guys conduct was way over the line and if he doesn't get charged with a felony and do some hard time, something is seriously wrong.

I also find it disturbing that you thought it was funny. What exactly did your father do for you in regards to youth sports?

Nobody likes to warm the bench and since I was the star of most of my teams i Can't really relate, but I think a few parents take it as a direct insult against their manhood that their child has no talent which means you sired a loser and you are now the laughing stock of the neighborhood.

Shak--you ever met anyone form Philly that wasn't a diehard local fan. I've lived most of my childhood and adult live in a Military environment and you just don't see that type of behaviour. Was it just luck that it happened in Philly, probably not!!

Shak, you know why I didn't read the posts this week....but yes I did make the prediction but didn't have the cojones to put the bills down with Ed. He's too good or so I thought, having just read #45. He's just re-directing from his own computer escapades. Talk about my attention span, you guys with the TIVO crack me up. I have a life outside of my computer and TV.

What is this "life" thing you speak of? Is it surfing Bucknuts.com all day long?

WOW, that was a pretty scathing article. I am sure Timmy won't be too happy about that. ND's schedule doesn't appear too tough and they are not National contenders based upon some of the teams I have seen this year, and yes, OSU looks unbeatable this year. USC and Michigan also look tough and have a tougher schedule left (except USC, they have a gimme at the end of the season:o). Just kidding.

Hey anyone up for a little sidebet of some sort I'm getting a little bored. Something like pick:

1 QB, 1RB, 2 WR's from any team playing this week and the highest score wins 10 bucks payable thru PayPal.

Let me know I don't care if it's me against another person, me and JHHH used to play this game everyweek at his house for 1 pound..big stakes.

Lineup's will be posted on this board and I'll score the teams and post the totals here after the games are over.

That would be 10 bucks per person payable ASAP.

The only problem would be if the exact same team was selected by two guys, is that likely?

Any suggestions on a better bet.

Sounds like a bet to me, Scotty, Mike and whomever wantS a little action.

Rules: pick 1 QB, 1RB and 2WR's each week. You can only use a player once and the scoring system will be the same one we are using. Simple, post your picks before Sunday would be a good idea, easliy posted on here, no need for a spreadsheet and whoever scores the most points after the week 17 games wins the money, which isn't that big a deal, this is more about being the top dog and bragging rights then WINNING the cash. I'll keep a running total of each person's points and make sure you don't use the same guy twice..

Players so far:

1. Edneck
2. RBP
3. Superclyde

No Shak you can't play two teams..He He. I don't think we'll have any issues except lineup ones, so make sure you don't play a guy twice or you forfeit his points for that week and getting your picks in before the last minute on Sunday would aleviate any disputes.

This will keep some of you boys that lose both Survivor teams interested until the last week of the season...

Sorry boys, Im out of it, this year anyways...too many teams. Between my current 5 teams to include this league, it is already to hard to keep track of who I want to to good and who I want to fail miserably...so I will let someone else win it this year:)

Too funny about Shak.

So post them here or should we make a new thread?

Probably a new thread would be better to avoid any confusion.

Definitely going to need to do some schedule searching for this one. Who's collecting money??

I don't understand why no one wanted to pick one winner a week, survivor style, while picking a team only once. I think that's a great format.

You guys kill me. I read this post and laugh out loud just about every time!!

Jim, not sure which "winner" you are talking about. Which team in the Survivor league or which NFL team or what?

I can't believe I didn't even get a rise out of Travis about the post I wrote earlier(in the contract league). Still lost, but was expecting it.

Either way Ed, make a new thread with all of the rules and stipulations and have everyone check in. So far...

Ednecks
Me
RBP
JHHH

Anyone else???

Ed,
You pick an NFL team that you feel certain will win that week. EVeryone that picks a winner survives to the next week. If you pick a loser, you are out. The following week, the survivors pick another team, but you can't pick the same team twice.

Not sure if you read other threads here, but in the football forum, they have a game like that already set up. Not sure if you can join late, but we could always set something up.

Pick the loser

Ok, I remember why I came here in the first place...the World Series is over now and the Cardinals won it all, which made me think, what do you guys think is the worst team ever to win the World Series? Im not saying that the Cardinals are the worst ever..but maybe in a while...they really did not have a strong part of the team due to injuries and what not...dont get me wrong, the team came through in the playoffs, but in the regular season, this team just did not look like championship material.

The week 8-17 pick four challenge thread has been created, anyone that can be vouched for by a Survivor member can play. Remember it's just a little added fun mainly for JHHH, because he has no Teams left in Survivor and feels a little left out, poor fellow :-)
