0 Subject: Week 8 -17 pick 4 challenge

Posted by: Ednecks
- [4110311923] Fri, Oct 27, 2006, 19:35

The Rules will be simple and easy to follow even for those folks who can't even find five minutes to list 4 players.

Each week you will select 1 QB, 1 RB and 2 WR's starting this week (week 8) and ending week 17. You can only use a player once, the total points for your 4 players for the week will be added up and the team with the highest total points by week 17 will win the money.

Try and post your lineup before Sunday if at all possible, I think we can all trust each other and the honor system will be used, no need to get the money up front. I want to keep this as simple as possible and I can't be bothered with creating a spreadsheet, so all lineups and running totals will be posted in this thread. The fee is $10. The Scoring will be the same as Survivor.

If you forget to post a lineup for the week then you get a zero for that week and your still alive, but will finsh behind me for sure. IF you don't want someone to see your lineup send them to me at leonhart@btopenworld and I'll post them just before gametime. I personally don't care if you see my picks beforehand. Try and keep track of the players you have already used so you don't accidentlly try and use them again.

Any Questions let me know. I may have forgotten something, so lets not make this a headache, it's just a little added fun.

I have a few minutes so....

Brady - Interesting choice. Minn D isn't the best, but could stop Brady.

Parker - Should run all over the Raiders. With Ben still thinking he's batman, the run could be very important.

Bouldin - Packers pass D is the worst in the NFL. Got lucky last week with Harrington throwing for over 400 yards. Solid pick.

Driver - Favre is a surprise this year with a terrible team. Go figure, he has been doing this for a long time. The Cards, after the meltdown with Chicago and being destroyed by the Raiders, their D is on their heels.

Favre - Picked him due to him having a fine year and playing an equallly bad team. Should post decent numbers.

Henry - Has emerged to be the player he was with Buffalo. Houston is allowing 138 Yds/game, so look to see him get another 100+ game. As long as White doesn't come in too often.

R. Brown - How can you not pick any Philly WR? Saving them I suppose. McNabb is right now the favorite for MVP, so any Philly WR is a good choice.

B. Berrian - Surprise QB of the year plays at home against SF. The Bears D should keep the punter very busy this week. Should have decent numbers.

I'm game Joe, you can pick TE's or recievers doesn't matter to me..anyone have a problem.

Mike those are all solid picks, maybe not sexy enough for the Edneck, but look back at the draft and it's funny how not one of those guys was highly regaurded...funny how things change rather quickly...I hope we get a few more players.

Ed, can we make changes up until gametime? Now that TE's are accepted, I just may change a player. Same scoring as the league for TE's?

I had a hard time not choosing Bouldin this week. GB's pass D is just terrible.

Yeah, none of those were even first rounders I bet. Ok, maybe Harrison.

Yeah Mike, just make sure it's changed before gametime. I don't see a clear advantage playing a TE, but having them available with the WR's is fine by me.

A little surprized with the McNabb and Harrison picks, cuz I see better matchups down the road, but it's given they can score against anyone. I guess JHHH wants to get a early lead.

Come on boys your wife is just going to blow your 10 bucks on makeup and new panties..get your lineup's in and have some fun.

Next two teams.....

McNabb - seems to be a solid choice no matter what week. Jacksonville isn't looking too good, but their D has been decent in the past.

A. Green - Solid pick here if he is healthy. Anyone in the Green and Gold should produce this week.

Houshmandzadeh - With all of the trash talking C. Johnson is doing, he could be open more often. Sleeper pick??

Harrison - This could work two ways. Either Manning and the boys show that no defense can contain them or Denver show them that no offense can score on them. I would have waited with Harrison and did for a better matchup.

Favre - See above

T. Jones - Should be a good week for him, but I see Grossman passing more in this game. I have a funny feeling about this one. SF is terrible, but they may come to town to prove something. Or just get destroyed by the number 1 defense.

A. Johnson - Go to guy for Carr, but an interesting choice. Tennesse only gives up 200 yards per game in the air. Those all won't be to Johnson. If Houston gets down early, it could be a great pick.

Driver - Again, see above

Ed $10 on frilly underwear is money well spent if you ask me, for my wife sickos!!

I am assuming that since Ednecks didn't update the scores, he isn't going to take Brady's points?? Nevermind the 300+ and 4 TD's he had, he is so good he doesn't need it.

Or I am still asleep and am dreaming he wanted more of a challenge?

JHHH--I heard you sold your house and made a "little profit", nice, very nice indeed. Do you still own shares of GOOG? I think I saw it up to $472 last night, curious to hear again whan you bought and sold it...thought you said you bought at $60 and sold at $90-100, at least thats what I told Tim Dahl last night. I'm also curious how much you actually invested (I know thats personal but we were debating whether or not you bought a few shares or thousands of dollars worth). He told me a story of a Colonel he used to work for who's Grandma bought all the kids stock when they were kids. The stock she bought them included a little company named NIKE. Needless to say he's a millionaire. Tim also told me about three military guys at Mildenhall he knew that bought 6 houses and rented them out as TLF's (they later sold three of them). One guys take on the deal was $2.2M over a 6 year period (pretty sure thats the exact numbers). When I moved to Mildenhall I stayed in TLF for 87 days in a super nice TLF in Beck Row paying $125 a day....that's $11,000! Thats $45K a year if it was occupied 365 (not likely, 275-300 more reasonable).

Sorry to get off topic, thats how I roll. Jon where are you stationed at now?

I knew a guy who bought a house in either Mildenhall or Beck Row and had an interest only mortgage. He would have had to rent the house for 5 days out of the month to pay his mortgage. Anything over that was profit. Not sure if he ever sold, but what a goldmine! He was renting it as TLF. There was an article the other day on how house prices have tripled in the past decade.

Not bragging, but we put 55K down on this house and have no bills and relatively new cars '01 and '05 paid for. We were actually looking at selling recently and in a year and a half, our house was up 25K from when we bought it. Those figures are all in pounds.

I remember watching a movie about someone who had had hard time finacially and just when everything looked terrible, they managed to find a box in a garage that held some stocks in General Dynamics that was purchased a long time ago. The final scene is of the family on their new farm and everyone happy. I just keep hoping that VPHM goes back up to $24 a share like it was a while ago. I know Jon lost a bundle on that one, but who knew. I am still in the black for the stock, but I would like it to make me rich!

OSU scraped by and so did Michigan. Badgers won again and while they didn't look great either, they should move up with WV losing. Sorry Tim. The Irish won again with their tough schedule and will probably be crying why they aren't #1!! Again, sorry Tim. Should be a great game in two weeks time with OSU V Michigan game. Not sure if I will get time to write the predictions this week. Ed with a TE in the lineup??

There are several success stories in the local area with GIs and the housing market. Mine does not even come close to qualifying among some I know. I know two TSgts who have 10+ houses, both started buying 8-10 years ago. I bought my house in Jan 1999 for 70K, my house sold for 184K (assuming all goes though with current buyer.) Houses here have almost tripled in 10 years. This house was by far the best investment I have EVER made.

VPHM...after two successful trades I was up 100+% in Feb 2006...then the VPHM crash. I'm down a total of $700.00 with VPHM...not worth crying over.

GOOGLE...For the record, GOOG has never been as low as $60.00. GOOG's IPO was priced at $95 dollars a share in Aug 2004 and has never looked back. Rick Henderson's brother-in-law broker talked us out of buying into the IPO...what a huge mistake. In May 2005, I swallowed my pride, realized I made a mistake, and told myself I wasn't going to miss the rest of the ride. I bought GOOG at the low price of $256! Everyone thought I was crazy, myself included. It hit $300 about 30 days later, $400 about 180 days later, and just shy of $500 last week. GOOGLE is a money making machine...the company and the stock. They turn air (advertising) into money. I am still not afraid to buy GOOG at these levels now (I bought more last week). Barring corruption or scandal (which has happened to my stock picks more than once) it will hit $600 within the next year. I have made $15K thanks to power of GOOG...but it's all relative and I could lose it all tomorrow. GOOG is by far my largest holding (170 shares...you do the math). My homer stock pick (MEM) has lost me more than GOOG has made me, but I still have faith in this growing company. I'm hoping that one day I will open a box of MEM one day and be able to buy that farm.

Disclamer: The author of this message owns shares in GOOG, MEM, and VPHM. Investing in the stock market is not without risk and you should only invest money you can afford to lose.

yeah..I think Ednecks could have outscored Vick this week....seriously though, the 80 rushing yards really helped you vick lovers this week...
Another thing crossed my mind the other week and I forgot to mention it. If you lose points due to a fumble, why shouldn't you get points for a fumble recovery. I’m not saying that if your RB recovers his own fumble, cause why should you get rewarded for screwing up…but if one of your players recovers the fumble of a teammate? Just another thought brought to you by your friendly neighborhood Joe!

A little off topic here, but I can only assume that CBS' "report card" is for the new fantasy players.

Wouldn't a short message explaining what has been going on with their servers be enough? I mean as an owner, I would certainly know if the site was delivering or not. There have always been problems with live scoring and even the following morning, but they have always come up with the correct results. Sure it is frustrating when you can't get into the site to make changes at the last minute, but if you can send a message to the commish stating your proposed changes, it can be input later (I have had to do that this year). I guess if you are new or cannot contact your commish other than through the site, it could be a problem. I just see the report card as them admitting they have problems, which you would know anyway, and what they are doing to resolve it. Personally, I know they get overloaded on Sunday and expect problems from time to time, but couldn't care less on what the problem is or how they are fixing it as long as they do it.

They have the best site out there and while it does cost some money, it is well worth it. The live scoring usually isn't too much of a problem for me as I can just about calculate scores in my head anyway, but that they don't update the latest player news prior to game time. I got an e-mail on Monday afternoon with the Colts inactives for the week!! That didn't do me any good as the game was over for 18 hours or so.

Back onto the subject, if you average out Joe's score, he is averaging more than 20 points per player for the past two weeks. Even though we can pick whomever, that is still pretty good. It will get very intersting down the road to see what some teams will be left to start. With the big name players, you better hope that you don't pick them on a bad day. I picked LJ last week and he got me 26. For those of you who still have him left to play, hope he doesn't get hurt or has just a bad game. That being said, I picked Vick and got 14 from him after the two previous weeks he tosses 7 TD's!!

I have quite a way to go, but there are 7 weeks left and it is relatively close. I am the only one who seems to be out of it right now, but if I can get lucky and make the right picks, I am sure I can get back into the thick of things.

Why do you think they have the best site out there? I like Fanball, Fleaflicker, and even Yahoo much better. All of those sites work on Sunday when you need them too. All have better search capabilities for free agents. Fanball always has ACCURATE and Up to date information on players. At times, CBS is weeks behind on "lesser known" players.

I can't say I have looked there. I know you guys are using it for the survivor league, but I am not in that this year.

I think CBS has a great research and projections section, but their timing during the season for updates could be better. They offer two other site's opinions about any particular player and their cheat sheets for drafting are pretty decent as well.

I just like CBS because I have been with them for years now and they also offer a great baseball site as well.

My 9th year FF league switched from CBS to myfantasyleague.com this year because the price was right (free). I've been pretty satisfied with the site. Live scoring works well and it has some interesting reports. I usually don't count on it for player updates...

RBP...I'm assuming your ran out and bought some GOOGLE after you read my post (#40). But I'm really pushing MEM at the moment...it can't get much cheaper than 55 cents!

Jon myfantasyleague.com wasn't free I paided for the site. I'm with SC I really think CBS is sexier and more appealing to the eye. Fleaflicker is a nice site only because it's free, I'm not that impressed with what it has to offer, but Free is pretty hard to ignore. CBS is a little slow on the player updates, but you really can't argue with the overall package, except it's a little expensive.

I haven't been to myfantasyleague.com in quite awhile. I LOVE their auto pick option during the draft. Saves a lot of heartache and name-calling during a draft. If I remember correctly, they didn't have any player research on the site, but like I said, I haven't been there in awhile.

CBS just does it for me. They have improved research, cheat sheets and smack talking options every year. The smack talking is definitely going down in the contract league, but that is only because Ed isn't picking on anyone:o) Just kidding. I prefer CBS, what can I say?

Speaking of the Buckeyes who thinks Michigan should be in the BCS Championship with OSU instead of USC? I think If your going to use that stupid scoring system then you need to stay with it to at least prove it has so many flaws in how it works. I personally think Michigan and OSU are the two best teams in the Country and should play each other but I'm am a little biased against the PAC 3..I mean PAC 10 or is it
PAC 12.

Remember there are 3 games on Thanksgiving..get your players in If you plan on using any of those teams.

All 5 guys have a chance, HHH needs to outscore the top teams by an average of what, 13-15 points a week on average? If he has saved some studs thats doable, maybe not probable but possible.

On a side note I CLEP'ed my first college class today (Ethics in America) on about 7 days or real self paced study. Going to try Sociology next, we'll see how that goes....

Ethics (from the Ancient Greek "ethikos", meaning "arising from habit"), a major branch of philosophy, is the study of value or quality. It covers the analysis and employment of concepts such as right, wrong, good, evil, and responsibility.

Joe Your wrong, I'm right, I'm good your evil and it's my responsibility to keep you in line and from hurting yourself...Yes I have ethics.

Good idea Scott. I hate having to search to ensure I don't start someone twice. It is going to start to get interesting here quick. A lot of big name players have been used and the scrubs will have to be inserted soon. This format allows you to play the studs just about anytime a matchup is good or if it is LT, it just doesn't matter when you start him. With the playoff game, you have to try and ensure you correctly guess the losers who will score each week or you will end up with a bunch of studs not played and out of the playoffs, see previous years I waited on Indy players!!

Lonely on top, thanks for the company Ednecks!

Ok, Im still in Kosovo and I have AFN sports on. I dont watch boxing but it just happens to be on. The only reason I am writing about this is cause It made me laugh for like a minute straight. The announcers for HBO fights were speaking of the two boxers (Litzau and Hernandez)how they were both offensive minded and ignore Defense at times. Some announcer who actually sounds "challenged" just came out and said that "when fighters ignore Defensive, they are usually better at offense then defense". And he just stopped talking...it was such a madden moment of stating the obvious. I dont know, I thought it was funny.

Bad news with Favre and points. REAL quiet here. What is it the holidays or something?

Just got done wrapping my 9 millionth present for the kids. I don't remember being this spoiled when I was a kid. Payback is Christmas morning though!! Smiles and excitement are the best! Happy Holidays everyone and be safe out there.

I will do that. We went to the train station yesterday to watch the trains, so I have some current ones.

I thought the Green/Gonzo combo would have produced more, but I guess when you have LJ, why not just run the ball.

It looks like I'll be taking home the money/honors...I won the most weeks.

JHHH (3 - wks 9,14,16)
Joe (2 - wks 8,11)
RBP (2 - wks 13,15)
Edneck (1 - wk 10)
SC (1 - wk 13)

The best you guys can do is tie me. It's good to be the king again....NOT! In weeks I didn't win I finished last 3 times, and 4th twice. Only I could jinx the likes of studs like McNabb, Manning, Harrison, Gates, Andre Johnson (this year), and Holt.

I'll agree JHHH as long as Little Joe doesn't get to win. I will admit that he did get the most points out of his players each week..he always seemed to get a huge score out of at least one player every week. I'm starting to believe Joe's pretty good at this stuff and Mike is were he normally is last and the Edneck is always the runner-up, never quite good enough. JHHH and RBP are those guys who spring up from time-time with great years and then average years, I think it depends on how the stock market is doing..

It's been fun, wish we had a few more players but you keep making a old man happy....Who's doing the playoff challenge?

That sounded a little harsh on Mikey..He did win a Survivor, but I think the stars, Venus and Pluto were in perfect harmoney for that to happen...Just teasing Mike...

Excuse me, it was Halley's comet the year I won survivor!

No offense taken. I don't know what it is, I just don't seem to have the picks right. I usually fair better in the playoff challenge. One of the first years we played it, I can remember calling Scotty from Germany placing my picks as I was stuck there trying to get a ride back. That was for the superbowl. Can't remember if I won it or placed second. Anyway, my FF knowledge is pretty decent, but I just play with my heart and not facts a lot of times. I tend to really like a player and they have a decent matchup and take them over a player that WILL have a good game.

Not sure about who will run the playoff challenge this year. Is there a website out there that will be running our scoring system and I can just look up the numbers for each team? I wouldn't mind doing that then. I am pretty sure CBS won't be posting stats throughout the rest of the season. What about the site you guys used for Survivor? It wouldn't be that bad then. Of course, I could always use help if I was slacking. Damn this testing crap!! Let me know.

Each week you will select 1 QB, 1 RB and 2 WR's starting this week (week 8) and ending week 17. You can only use a player once, the total points for your 4 players for the week will be added up and the team with the highest total points by week 17 will win the money.

Per the quote from the top of the page. I couldn't figure out what JHHH was saying either. Ahh, in reading there must have been a little sarcasism in there from Jon. He won the most weeks, so far, but will still finish basement after this week.
