OK gang, here's where we get to "air our dirty laundry".

1st on the agenda: Roster Freeze

We need to use a site, that will either;
1) Log roster/bench changes with a time stamp so that changes can be monitored or
2) allow us to set a roster freeze of either each games KO for a given player or freeze them 5 minutes prior to KO. Either of those works fine for me.

2nd Budget

The more I think on the subject, the more opposed I am to the notion of granting additional funds to use for Free Agency. I think our $200 budget, coupled with F/As taking money from that budget, is one of the central aspects to making our league a truly unique one wherein the manager actually does have to manage their team. I for ex, had intended to spend no more than $180 during last seasons auction. Well, I went to $185 when the I got the opportunity to land McNabb. Point being, each manager has the ability and the option, to spend as much or as little of their $200 as they see fit. Frick, took IMHO, a HUGE chance when he spent the vast majority of his funds on 2 guys. Yes, they are 2 absolute studs. But a "minor" injury to either, causing them to miss 3 or 4 games is all, would have spelled total disaster for him. His call, his choice, and as it turned out this past year, his championship title too. :)

3rd Free Agents

Whatever we do here, I want to preserve two aspects of what we do. First, is the "Injury Priority" claim. This element, lends a certain differentiating factor again to our league. If you have a key player go down, by claiming Injury Priority you go to the "head of the line" and get 1st dip into the F/A pool. This dip is uncontested, uncontestable BUT, comes with the caveat that you MUST start that F/A in the next weeks games. So, a guy with 2 QBs who sees his stud go down, isn't going to claim IP to add a backup to his bench to cover for his 2nd QB. (Unless he really doesnt like that 2nd QBs match-up for that week and does like the alternate choices. But then, those are the very scenarios the IP designation is created to cause the manager to decide and again, manage their team/budget.

3a) Free Agent Process

It has been proposed that we allow "open bidding" on F/As, the same way we flush out our rosters to begin with. I'm fine with that, so long as we can maintain an orderly process throughout the season. My thoughts would be this:

Injury Priority: This claim by-passes the bidding process and grants the claiming manager "rights" to the player they name. That player must start in the following week, and comes with a $5 price tag. IP must be claimed, by midnight Tues of each week. Claims time stamped on or after 00:01 Wed Eastern US, would be negated.

Bidding: Each Manager who wishes a dip into the F/A pool in any given week, must name a player to the "board" prior to Midnight Wed Eastern time US. They may name this player, along with whatever bid amount they desire, keeping within their respective budget. The same rules, fines, penalties would apply for F/A bidding as does during our initial roster filling bidding. Bidding would close at noon Saturday Eastern US time, and high bids would result in that players being assigned to the winning managers squad, with the bid price being deducted from that managers remaining funds.

Weeks with Thurs night games:

IP as above.

Open bids, submitted by midnight Tues, but NOT designated as an IP claim. Bids would remain open until Midnight Wed, at which time, the bidding would be closed. (All times again, are Eastern US time.)

4th Dynasty (Keeper) League or not

While I have a tendency for preferring 'keeper' leagues, the administrative nightmare this would create in our auction format, is not one I care to subject myself to. Sorry, but this one I oppose.

Finally: Fees

Depending on the site used and the options we want/need, we may have to go to a pay site in order to accomodate all that we want to do. I'd prefer we try and avoid this, but if it becomes necessary in order to facilitate the very aspects of the game we choose, then we have to face and accept that potentiality.

Your input, voice, active participation, is the only way we have of ensuring that this league most closely resembles what we are looking for it to be. PLEASE, take part.

Thanks......Sarge

SECOND I do not want F/As, to become "free". The fact that they cost against your budget, is central to the theme of even having a budget.

sorry, forgot that part and overlooked it when I proofed the post.

sarge - I like your thinking. here is my road for next year:
- get $200
- draft
- talk trash
- have something like $20 (of the initial $200) remaining for the season
- do some bidding each week to improve my team: get some money back for my dropped players, pay more money to get new players
- try to work out some trades
- reach the playoffs
- talk some more trash
- win it all
- talk ultimate trash

I just checked out our options in the free AOL League Manager:
1) roster freeze - lots of options, the best one is 5 minutes prior to kickoff of the players game.

2) budget - you can enter remaining funds for a team (money left after the draft). you can also keep track of every single players salary. this should make trading easier.

3) free agents - they have a blind bidding system where every manager can bid on which player he wants for how much money. after the bidding deadline the commissioner gets a list of all bids and has to resolve them on his own. we can implement more than 1 bidding round: 1st round (for IP only) on Tue, 2nd round on Wed, 3rd on Thu, 4th on Fri, 5th on Sat. after that every free agents cost $5.
more bidding rounds are needed because if you need a WR for next week and you don't get him, you get a few more chances to bid on a different player. you don't want to bid for 3 players and get all of them, because nobody needs a WR this week.

4) they have the ability for keeper leagues and tracking contracts over multiple years too.

not mentioned above:
5) schedule - we can play in 3 division of 4 teams. each team plays each other team once and the teams in the own division twice. there is also the possiblity to play doubleheaders every week (like we use in RIFC).

if anyone wants to play around in this dummy-league I can send you a link and give you commissioner priviliges.

I would love to go to double headers.

Granted my luck in the RIFC qualifing league this year was horrific, but I enjoy the concept.

AOL takes a little getting used to, but it has amazing flexibility on how you set up the league. I think it might even have the ability to run the auction for us, I'm not supporting using it, just saying that it might be there.

Frick - I just checked the options at AOL/Fanball. the auction draft feature is not implemented yet. I found in their forum that it may be there next year, but others there say that Fanball says that every year and nothing happened until today.

Thanks for that reminder YR. (Just knew I'd forgotten something. lol)

I not only have no problem with this notion, but fully support the idea of creating 3 divisions. Reg season play would consist of 3 game against division foes and 1 game against one of the other 2 divisions. (Then subbing in the other "off" division the following year.) So we'd have 9 "division" games and 4 non-division games each year.

Playoffs...each division winner plus 1 Wildcard team. (Priority for WC slot: W-L Record, Divisional Record in event of tie, Non Divisional record if still tied, "points for" if still tied.)

Alternately, we could institute some dble header weeks and play both of the other 2 divisions once.

9 Division games and 8 non-division games.
