Thought I would start the tread for this year. RIFC is starting, thought it would be a good time to round up the managers. There were a few things we needed to discuss from last year. Here is a post from Barilko6:
First off...

Congrats to The Fighting Seabees who took out GolfFreak's PackAttack to win the league.

A couple of things that came up during the year:

1. Waiver claims. It was noted that we should have prioritized waiver claims, and I agree with this.

2. Roster Freeze during the playoffs. I could go either way with this decision, its not huge to me. I wouldn't object to a manager replacing someone who got injured late in the year. I also would just side with the majority on this.

3. Keepers. We decided on 5 keepers, no more than 2 at any position. Someone emailed me and asked if there was going to be any restrictions on trades, with the thought being that Manager A trades a QB to Manager B for a RB before the keeper declaration. Then after a short time, they trade the 2 players back for the purpose of staying within the keeper designation. (Thought being that one team has extra QB's that they want to keep and the other has extra RB's) The thought is that there should be a one year restriction on managers reacquiring players traded prior to keeper designation. I also would just go with the majority on that.

Anyways, congrats SeaBees...and I look forward to thoughts from all managers on the above, or any other matters to enhance the league.

It seems to me that we needed to replace a manager also. Anyways, the ball is rolling...

is there a reason we cant keep more then 2 at any position? I feel like if you want to keep 3 WRs or 3 RBs you should not be punished for good draft picks.

Hey all, yeah I guess I should have gotten this started by now!

I guess our first step is to decide who is coming back, and I think we still need to settle up last year's fees and all.

The main issues from last year was the WW pickup process that we had, as well as the playoff rosters, and I am open to suggestions on both.

As for the keepers, that was something we had decided prior to the draft last year, and everyone was in agreement, so we will adhere to that ruling for this upcoming season, but would be open for discussion for the next season if that is something we want to change.

Wiggs...that being said, I have some extra RB's: McGahee, Reggie Bush, Tatum Bell, Maurice Morris, and Micheal Turner if you are interested.

Anyways...who is coming back???

I think the only trade last season that involved draft picks was me picking up Sarge's 4th round pick for my last round pick in the Damon Huard trade.

Last year we started the draft on August 8th and finished in 9 days! (is that a record?!?), so we have lots of time for this year's draft.

Fighting Seabees will be on the clock for naming this year's NFL vetern to replace Mike Singletary as our honored naming vetern.

barilko, no problem, just wondered why we did that. Are you interested in moving a RB for a WR

For sure man. I think McGahee, Bush, and Tatum will be starters, so that leaves me with room to play. Plus I have the first overall pick to get the best of someone else's garbage!

Sounds possible, Let me look things over, and get back to you. I am heading out to hockey in a couple minutes, but will have time tomorrow to chat.

Other managers might want to have all the teams claimed before roster movement anyways.

I'm back... I sent an email to the last known email you had on the boards Bariko... My question is, did anyone save the information from Yahoo?

Waiver claims really needs to be addressed... I also believe no pickups should be made at all once games start on Sunday.

Promize...

You can access all the old rosters and teams for everyone if you go to your Yahoo Fantasy Profile. I will copy and paste final rosters here on Monday or Tuesday.

Waiver wire is definitely going to be addressed...

Also I think we should award a 1st round compensation pick to me for no apparent reason.

Goatlocker has a lot on his plate, im about 99% sure he will not be returning. He basically removed himself from several keeper leagues in baseball, basketball, football, golf.. Probably best to start looking for a replacement.

Is odd to see Stuck in the 60's just disappearing.

All, as Promize just said, I won't be back.
I did send an email to the league in early December explaining what was going on in my life.
If anybody wants more info, you can email me and I'll answer.

So we need 2 more managers, three if JTSerb doesn't make an appearance.

If anyone has any recommendations, let me know.

Otherwise I can make a posting...

We will wait on trades until we get the final 2 managers, but in the meantime, I have the following players available for trade:

Matt Schaub: Every team needs to start 2 QB's each week, and Schaub looks good, possessing a quick release that will work well with the Texan's west coast offense. Finally escaping Vick's shadow...

Ben Rothliesberger Looking to bounce back to his usual self. Making assumption that this dummy will ride with a helmet on this summer.

Andre Johnson : The yards are huge (1147!), and you know he is going to do well with Schaub. The TD's will be there this year!

Willis McGahee : New team, Baltimore, will run him like they did Jamal Lewis in the old days. Little Sidekick Arnold not included.

Micheal Turner : Very cheap RB option who still put in 500+ yards, and will look to be a key FA next year. Only an LT injury away from MVP like numbers!

Jon Kitna! Reggie Bush! David Carr! Maurice Morris! David Carr! (I am just listing these guys by name because I got tired of trying to think of crap to say...)

Any suggestions?

4 of my 5 are easy enough to ID...the 5th one, origianlly obvious IMHO, is currently a question mark.

A week or two from now I'd guess, depending on when we'll do the actual draft.

Is it sad that one my keepers could be a D or K? Who in the world drafted this poo-poo platter?

Part of my problem is that I have Vick and Simms. A year ago that seemed like a decent pair of starting QBs. 1 year later it is highly unlikely either one will put on a uniform this year.

Then Frick, you have my rag-tag QBs. Last year, 1 was a solid starter, but all but got killed early on in the season. The rest, were a bunch of rag-a-muffin back-ups. This season? 3 of them are declared starters and a 4th one will be next year, if Favre doesnt step down yet this season.

I honestly don't recall, but would definitely be willing to see what people think.

The only thing I seem to recall was allowing for "Kitna Yardage", which was going to be a bonus of 2 points for every yard thrown by someone with the last name Kitna.

I like deadlines that are midweek...gives those who do their planning at work time to plan.

Lets set the deadline for Wednesday noon for keepers. August 8th. Sounds reasonable?

Than we can start the draft soon after?

Kafenatid is a plus for me as I will be travelling the next two weeks

I was the guy talking up grossman. Notice I never actually PLAYED grossman (except during byes), I just wanted one of you guys to trade for him. And in my defense, he was the second best fantasy player in our league up until about week 6.

As for changing TD values, I've got to oppose that. (with all due respect to Sarge). I drafted last year knowing it was a keeper league with a big emphasis on passing. And so I went with 2 QBs with my first two picks. Changing the scoring would screw my (and probably others) strategy only one year into the league.

FYI my month is starting to fill up... I'll be out of town August 11-15 w/ probably no web access those 5 days... MAYBE once or twice. So if we start the draft before the 15th be adivised it might stall on me a bit... I can do a one-or-two round queue of course, but it's usually kind of hard to see beyond that since my picks tend to be influenced by other managers behaviors. Might be able to do a cell phone pick or two if needed to keep things moving along.

You will need some money for it right?
Also, are we doing any prize pools?
Where are we having our draft? On the site we are picking? Here? Kafenatid?

I think we are just going to go with Yahoo again, but straighten out the waiver wire process.

Last year we used Kafenatid, and we worked that into the prize monies, with the prizes being awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers only.

Ok....

Anyone have thoughts about a start date? I am heading out soon, and will probably not have access until Sunday.

I am ok with any start date really. The season doesn't start until September 5th or 6th or something like that, so we have lots of time. Last year we finished the draft in only 9 days, and this year we have 5 less rounds, so we should be ok.

Anyone with a preference on a start date?

Yeah, although if it gets within a 6 picks or so of your next pick, it shouldn't be tough for people to put up a queue, no?

I think we should start with a pretty loose clock and only tighten it if/when we start falling consistently behind whatever pace we need to finish in a reasonable timeframe.

Does the commish enter the five keepers in Kafenatid on our respective teams? Or do we have to pick our players?

By the way, I just had to setup a league at AOL for Free and it is a very good system for a free league. I was pleasently pleased with all the options it gave as a commish. And Waiver, Trade, etc is well organized

Alright...well by looking at my schedule here on the ship, Saturday will be the only day I will have the time to set up Kafenatid and switch everything over to AOL.

If I don't have time to do the AOL set up, unless someone else volunteers to get it up and running, we will have to go with Yahoo.

Or, I can just set up the AOL site in a week when I am back home, still way before the season starts.

I will enter all the keepers into Kafenatid, but that will be Saturday due to my work hours here on the ship...

Yeah, personally I don't care which site we use (AOL or Yahoo), but it shouldn't matter if it takes you a week... as long as we get it set up "about" the same time as the end of the draft, so that we can then do any add/drops or trades on the site, etc. prior to season start. But it doesn't need to be active until we're nearing the end of the draft IMHO.

Yeah, as long as there's a reasonable overnight downtime 6 hours sounds good. Hopefully most people will be active, use queues if/when you'll be away, etc... but even then on occasion the unexpected occurs, etc. so I think that's a good buffer to have.

But if someone starts taking 4-6 hours for their pick round after round, etc. we may need to adjust (or first just politely ask that person to make better use of their queues).

That being said, as soon as Chuck signs on, I will get things moving.

I don't know actually, but I would have to assume it's a snake draft. I've never been in a "non-dynasty" league (where you keep most if not all of your roster) that didn't snake the subsequent drafts. Usually only straight "rookie drafts" are non-snake.

Wow. Well, I'll be might surprised if that's the case, but stranger things have happened. Actually, I do think I was in one league (which died) where we had a few keepers each year, and then instead of snaking in round 2, we started the snake in round 3.

But really, even if it is non-snake, it's not that bad... think of it this way: the worst place team gets a "6th keeper" as an advantage over the first place team to try and balance things out.

The first place team then actually picks before the last place team... 6.12/7.01... 7.12/8.01... etc. during the draft (with one extra pick at the end).

We had decided to do a straight draft rather than a snake to allow the bottom teams to move up. You can look back over past conversations to get more info on that...

I'm confused... he posted #171 at 2:51 am EST, at which point 7.02 was on the clock. Now a few hours later 7.06 is up.

But you're saying he didn't want to do back-to-back RBs... then why did he leave a queue and say to use it for this round? That is, why leave a queue for this round with players he didn't want to draft in it?

Hey guys sorry for the delay... something came up. I don't have any of my draft data with me, but something came up unexpectedly. I should be home in 90 minutes or so... 2 hours tops.

Barilko, I might be interested in Kitna... if you are interested in a trade, look at my roster and then drop me an email and let me know what you'd want... picks, players, etc.

I had intended to have taken Dunn with my last pick. But watched the GB game last night, and Driver went down with an "undisclosed" foot injury. With his status questionable, and missing a pick from last years trade, I felt I HAD to pickup another WR. Then I see Dunn get taken right afterwards. :(

Really imo, players that are being picked now because are just "shot in the blue" players... "Maybes" so to speak... Only importancy to them is the possibilty of future star players you might want to pick up, or backups to what you have.

We should be blazing through this now, but it seems slower then ever.

So, went back and looked at last years thread and peoples discussions about the league and predictions...

Last Years Thread

I'm using Draft Dominator again this year to sort of some picks and help make those decisions.. I wanted to see how accurate it was last year..

Based on OVERALL Strength it had:

1 - Doug (Goatlockers Team)
2 - GolfFreak
3 - Wiggs
4 - Promize
5 - Frick
6 - Electro
7 - Sarge
8 - Russell
9 - Bariko
10 - JT
11 - Dwiff
12 - ChuckT (Stuck60's Team)

So in comparison how it actually ended:

1. Dwiff (+10, overachieved!)
2. GolfFreak (0, Right on)
3. Doug (-2, pretty close)
4. Russell DL (+5, nice overachieved)
5. Promize (-1, pretty close)
6. Frick (-1, pretty close)
7. Electroman (-1, pretty close)
8. ChuckT (+4, much better then predict)
9. Wiggs (-6, ouch fell on hard times?)
10. JTSerb (0, dead on)
11. Sarge (-4, opps)
12. Barilko (-3, ugh)

Looked like it did a pretty good job at predicting

for the most part, I'd agree.

IIRC, I started last yr with 5 QBs. 4 of which were at the time, slated as starters.

2 lost their starting jobs in pre-season. 1 lost it later in the season. (As luck would have it, when I needed him.) Of my other 2 starters...1 went down wk 1 and was out for most of the season.....*sigh*

Well long ways to go, but at this point it has:

OVERALL TEAM STRENGTH,

1. Wiggs
2. Promize
3. Sarge
4. Golffreak
5. JT
6. Doug
7. Electro
8. Russell
9. Bariko
10. ChuckT
11. Dwiffan
12. Frick

OVERALL STARTER STRENGTH

1. Promize
2. GolfFreak
3. Wiggs
4. Sarge
5. JT
6. Electro
7. Russell
8. Doug
9. Bariko
10. ChuckT
11. Frick
12. Dwiffan

What I wish though, and maybe there is a way to do it... I just don't know it yet, is if you can weight it somehow to predict strength of your dynasty.

By the way GolfF, my buddy ChuckT got his first Hole-in-one about 2+ weeks ago, on this new par 9 this course opened (27 holes). Pretty cool his first hole-in-one is the first hole on this section of 9

re: 236... what would be nice is that you get the 6 hour clock... but if you time out on it once, or even if you "go over 3 hours" twice (without going the full 6)... then your clock reduces.

An alternative is a cumulative clock... which is what we use in G24. You get 6 hours per pick, and something like 24 hours of clock time for the whole draft (an average of about 90 minutes per pick).

The only problem with either of these is that kafenatid doesn't currently use them... would have to check with KKB how easily this would be to code.

I just don't like the idea of punishing everyone for one bad apple. Use your 6 hours once, that's fine, that's why it's there... sh!@ happens sometimes and you have to deal. But a pattern of abusing the clock is just flat out disrespect to your fellow managers IMHO.

Draft is going well, a couple more rounds to go, lets finish this thing!

Some comments on my picks:

Took a lot of chances with Adrian Peterson, JaMarcus Russell, and Micheal Bush, but I am hoping they pay off this year and for years to come.

I think I am going to stick with Yahoo this season if that is ok with everyone else here. I have already been keeping up with updating picks, and should have things ready to go 1 hour after the last pick is made.

Switching to AOL will take some time I think (I might be wrong?) and I won't have too much extra time until after the weekend, which would limit roster moves. I also like the idea of checking both my teams at the same time on Yahoo.

As for the Waiver Issue, I suggest you can all just email me your choices, and trust that I will leave them closed until Wednesday at noon. If anyone else wants to volunteer to run the waiver claims, I have no objections whatsoever!

People don't seem to be commenting too much on the money part of the league, aside from Wiggs and myself, am I to assume this means we want to make it a free league? Either way is fine with me.

Lastly, I am willing to move a RB for a WR....

1 - I don't know, I didn't use to be an AOL fan till I started a league over this year and am very impressed at all the options you get for "Free"!!

2 - Entering the picks, not really a big deal and actually you can set it up so everyone enters their own team. You just turn open the waiver wire for free add/drops. Only thing you have to do is double check each persons lineup based on the draft grid from Kafenatid

3 - I'm down for adding some money into the mix, good or bad team, always fun to win a little during football season.

Other note, most welcome Sarge :)

I'm probably going to hold up the draft for about an hour this morning. Sorry guys. My queue is empty and all of my draft stuff is at work. I'll be there in about an hour and a half and I'll make my pick then.

Also, I'm cool with the $20 pay in again. Assuming it got paid out properly last year.

I just checked out AOL, and their scoring structures are set up different than what we have for our league. They have a number of basic packages for scoring, none of which match ours at all.

They do mention that you can alter and customize league settings within the commissioner's tools, to align them to our league settings, but I don't know if I would have time before the weekend to move all those numbers around to match.

So...if someone is willing to take this on and get it setup, I would be more than willing to give AOL a try, provided nobody is against moving.

Any takers?

Hey guys,
Its my pick and I'd like to take Trent Edwards the rookie QB from Buffalo but he doesn't seem to be on the Kafenatid list. Any suggestion on how to do this? I was thinking I could just draft someone no one wants (ie Michael Vick) as a place holder for that pick and he could be added to my team in yahoo, but I thought I would get some input first.
Thanks

I had targeted Z Miller TE Oak a couple days ago, and noted he wasnt in the DB. I emailed and he was subsequently added. Then I ppicked him up. BUT..that process has to be done ahead of time since the admin needs time to add the player.

IMHO...you've stated your iuntentions and that works for me. Really though, its upto to our commish. Shouldnt be an issue to be honest. Pick the placeholder like you said, and then when he plugs the rosters into the host site, just plugin the "correct" player in lieu of the placeholder.

I agree...you can select a placeholder for the player you want.

I was going to add someone not on the database and just enter a placeholder as well.

For now just add a defensive player and post your intended player here on the site.

well,I used mike vick before you posted barilko because I figured no one would ever want him. Obviously, it was trent edwards I'm taking.

No worries on that Russelldl. I just thought that Sarge might be on the ball enough to select Vick as a potential "6 years down the road" keeper. I didn't want to hear him whine about how he wasn't available.

Anyways...if anyone volunteers to set it up on AOL, that would be great.

Otherwise I will have Yahoo up and ready by 10:00 AM tomorrow.

I will also give a recap of my thoughts of the draft, the other teams, steals, reaches, etc tomorrow when I get to see all the teams in their slots.

Nah. If he does come back, it'll be a as Cowgirl...and I try to avoid those players. ;)

re 238...I'd be curious what the "system" has to say given our total rosters all fleshed out.
