The draft will start at 10pm ET on 20 Aug.

If you are going to use an icon on the draft site, please shrink it down a little.

Kind of quiet in here. What does everyone think about adding one more round to our draft. I think if we added one more backup player, it would be easier to overcome injuries. Last year, most owners had either a backup QB or K. That only left two flex players on the bench. That makes it hard to handcuff players with a player that will only score points if the starter is injured. Adding one more player gives you a little more wiggle room. Should we vote?

What happened to I like it like it is stuff? Yeah I don't think that's a big change, but that's the beauty of this draft/format, do I get a backup QB or do I get another scorer, only the clowns took 2 kickers..

I'm easy either way, cus I'm drafting 3 QB's early in the draft.

Shak, What is the time limit gonna be to make picks?

One more player is fine... but I like our "tough" format.

I think we have to keep the draft time limit at 12 hours and hope that everyone can predraft as much as possible.

We have our first trade:

Iron Mike Division
He Hate Me gives 1.2 and 4.17
Spider Pig (Steve) gives 1.9 and 3.9

Unless anyone has an objection, I am going to turn on the robo draft option. If you bust your 12-hour time limit, the computer will automatically select a player for you.

I don't plan on busting any 12-hr time limits but I do have an objection to using the robo draft option.

The problem is the robo option ALWAYS picks the best available player based on the cumulative ranking of the multitude of drafts held on the site. As a result, the person who busts their time limit usually gets a better pick than they would have made themselves.

If you want to speed this along handle it like the NFL does. If one team busts their time limit the team behind them can make their pick and so on. The team that busted gets to make their pick whenever they get around to it but 10 other teams may have gotten in their picks in the interim. Exactly the way the NFL does things. It actually happened to Minn a couple years ago...and for them it actually worked out because they picked up Kevin Williams with that pick...dumb luck.

I wouldnt mind the robo draft option. I only say that because as many people as we have in this league some of them live in different countries and are on different time zones. I remember last year making a pick one night and getting up in the morning to find out it was time to make my next. With the robo you guys wouldnt be waiting.

i dont like the robo option, I always made sure I had at least as many players selected as owners ahead of me before I left the computer for a long period of time in the event that I was on the clock and not ivo a computer. It makes sense and doesnt take much time, i mean there are only a handful of guys you would want each round anyway that is left at that point. No valid excuses really. Why reward a good pick to someone if they cant take the time to draft ahead of time/be prepared?

The robo draft killed me last year...and now I'm an extra time zone away from the states.

Last year I ended up with my last robo pick in the 3rd round (whom I really didn't think I'd get..I thought I'd get one of the 6 or 7 selections I had in front of him). So I ended up with Larry Johnson and Tony G....bad bye week situation!

Trading picks is bad news in this league IMO, your only 1 or 2 bad picks away from stinking up the joint in this format, so i can see why people hate the Robo drafter.

What's the deal on trading after the draft or during it, I think people complained about it last year..Can't remember, I know people were trying to clean up their Bye week problems after the fact? I say no..

I don't see why you can't trade before the season starts. All trades have to be approved. Its not like we draft players with the thought that we can use them for trade bait. Sometimes your just not happy with how the draft fell and you want to change your roster. You can't go back to the player pool so all trades have to be equal. I can't see there being more than one or two trades.

I like the idea you live with your draft, thats what gives this league the X factor, there is always a weak sister to take advantage of after the draft is over (queue RBP, he has a built in radar for weak sisters), I think once the draft starts all trading stops.

Joe, I remember the QB trade and it was 2 years ago. I'm sure JHHH would have loved to trade away 2 of those 6 guys he had on the same bye week last year (good move bud!):-)

Four at least...but who's counting..The team looked great if you got past that bye week. I know you thought you found a new Strategy like Cobb did when he drafted three QB's early..both failures. I might try my all TE draft this year and see how that works..He He!!

Sorry to disagree with TB & GCobb but SJ is definitely the #2 RB this year. Statwise (and Pt wise) he will give you 125-150% fo what your getting from the 6-12 RBs. Agree to disagree on that one, but hey at least I have RBP on my side. IMHO I believe there should either be NO trading after the draft begins. Thats part of smart drafting the last I checked, plus EVERY mag has players bye weeks listed, if ya can't read, bad on you.

hey guys, just reading previous years posts and dont think we resolved an issue Regarding a one round supplemental draft at the conclusion of round 10? This was first brought up after Mario drank to much and picked up an injured Stevens. Did we already vote on this or no?

I kind of agree that SJ should be ranked #2, you separate the great back from the others, by TD's rush yards and Recieving yards and if you can get a back who is great in all categories then you got a winner. Each year is different, so yeah Cobb might be right and SJ gets less catches and less recieving yards, but it won't be much less to rank him lower then the others. The question marks to me are Alexander, Rudi, Brown, Henry, Bush and Magahee, will they get enough Td's and receptions to warrant the hype, (in Bush's case rush yardage). So IMO the cutoff is #2 and then it's a crap shoot all the way down, all the others have question marks (Injury prone, catches, poor Offenses, Not signed, lack of catches..) I took #4 soley so I can get the one I want out of those question marks..I trust myself more then letting the others leave me a question mark not of my choice. We all know that if your 1st round is a bust your chances of winning drop drastically.

Jeff, you aren't disagreeing with me. SJ is the #2 draft pick, but he isn't worth giving up 26/27 spots in the 3/4th round.

Do I want to move up 6 spots to draft Steven Jackson instead of Henry/Addai/Parker/Alexander, but move down 27 spots from my 3rd round choice and pick someone like Glenn or Hackett instead of a Colston/Ward/Driver?

No.

Ed, I was reading your post above mine and you're absolutely correct. So many question marks after #2. LJ will probably be in camp soon and solidify himself as top 3 and a few other backs will create some separation in the rankings over the next couple weeks, but this year seems like a lot of dice rolling compared to past seasons.

I noticed that Gore is not getting much love because of the broken hand, you really think he's way to much of a risk to take early...I'll admit I like Addai, Gore, Parker and Westbrook over SA, soley because I like the guys who catch the ball ...so Alexander will be free for whomever drafts behind me..might be a gift?

I think Spiderpig made a brilliant trade. I think it's a smart move to trade up to take the sure thing in the 1st. How your 1st pick does will go a long way in deciding how far you survive.

In a totally unrelated topic, does anyone want to move up to #2 in the BW? Anyone? Spiderpig???

Loyalty...Shak does Spiderpig owe you money..the bottom line is dropping 26 spots in the third round is not worth having SJ over the #9 RB..maybe LT, but SJ is not in his class yet, one season doesn't make you a superstar, once he does it again I'll jump on the bandwagon. I'll assume SpiderPig might have a pot belly and 8 legs.

In other formats, maybe, but with the "one bad week" format I wouldn't do a trade like that this year unless it was for LT. Even with that said, I hate trades in this format and hate draft position trades. How lame is it that a online dice roller gave someone the opportunity to move 26 spots from the 4th into the 3rd round based purely on a random script?

Every year I see a dorked up trade, but fortunately I've yet to see the dorkus or dorkee win the league.

I'd rather be lucky than good, because that's what it takes to win in this league. You draft and hope that your guys stay healthy. All the books and software can't help you if your guys aren't on the field. Also, all the trade sites I visited said I was increasing my draft status by a minimum of 10%. If you aren't happy with what you got, you've got to make a move. This league is already over after the season starts I might as well keep my interest before and during the draft because there's nothing left to do but watch after that. Just because you guys are afraid to make a move don't dump. All I read on this site from you guys is how afraid of change you are. Rather than be the one to take a chance and make a draft pick trade or post draft trade you'd rather hide behind the rules and gloat that you are the best drafter ever....17 weeks from now.

Since we all seem to be in a ranting mood, I'd like to mention one of my pet peeves. I hate it when someone justifies the status quo by saying "that's the way we've always done it."

Every single sports league evaluates their rules annually. No league stays static. To use that excuse is just a cop out IMO.

LOL, ED.

Steve - Anything after 10 words means you're trying to convince yourself. A trade calculator may tell you that this is equal value, but that calculator doesn't take into account our format.

Afraid of change? I'm in like 10 football leagues. I don't want change because it's more sh!t I have to do to prep for the season. This is a simple and fun format the way it is.

Shak - See above. This is a fun format, but every year we want to add more stuff to it. I will play no matter the changes we make, but it's already pretty freaking awesome the way it is.

Joe - I'm going to have to pass. I like to drink and I have a lot of anger issues. Using words like dork and goober keep me from getting banned on forums.

The results are in. Fourteen owners voted and nine voted for the trade deadline being the start of the draft and nine voted to keep the draft at 10 rounds.

Luckily, this league is not a democracy. I decree that we will have trading up until week 6 and the draft will now be 24 rounds.
67Shak

Just kidding. Can we have a vote on whether this should be a democracy or not.

I want to have the last word on the 10 round vote. To me, raising it to 11 rounds is a good change for three reasons.

First of all, it allows teams to better overcome an injury with an additional sub.

Secondly, the FBG site has a survivor league with 12 owners and they draft for 24 rounds! IMHO it takes much more skill to draft more rounds, because now you have to decide whether to draft a deep sleeper or a handcuff RB or QB.

And thirdly is because drafting is the best part of FFL. It's actually about the only thing this league is about, other than the odd trading of draft spots. How can going one more round be a bad thing? It doesn't radically change any strategy or cause you to re-do your draft list.

The pros for keeping it at 10? That's how we've always done it? It makes it more challenging? Not enough players? I think all of those are faulty and weak arguments. It doesn't make it more challenging, it makes teams more vulnerable to injury and therefore more of a crap shoot.

Anyway, I'll get off my soap box and give it another try next year.

I really don't care either way, but I like how Shak tries to justify why the majority of the league has weak excuses/reasons why they voted the way they did. Badgering and calling names will get you no where I'm offended:-)...I'll change my vote if it malkes you feel better..I really didn't care!!

Pretty soon we will have 24 rounds with divisions set up, you get too choose who you start that week and the fee will be 300 dollars. I think the majority voted to keep it simple, because like most I liked the idea of this being pain free after the draft..I have way too many leagues to keep track of. I don't mind change, but lets just keep it simple plesae!!

Scotty I think you need to make up your mind on weather you want to keep it simple or you want to turn this into a full fledged league..because you contradict yourself on way too many subjects...I guess you have the right to change your mind..

Another reason SHAK agreed was because he was for the extra round last year, as was BSB, Mario, STB, TB (kinda, he agreed anout the steven/bears incident ), Ednecks (due to karma, maybe sarcastic, but whatever, if it fits my argument;), and harmonj WAS for changing picks b4 the next owner selected. Not sure how RBP was leaning, but I Think you were with me, right buddy!

Disclaimer: Im about to fall asleep right now, so if I added a name above that was not for it (pretty sure it is all accurate though) or that is no longer in the league, I apologize now, to tired to double check (again).

A previous quote from ednecks:

Contradict myself?

Anyways I'll tell you a story...

When the worlds first recognized Survivor league was started the idea was to keep things simple. I figured since I had to manually add up all of the stats we didn't need 18 teams with 20 players each to tabulate each week. So keeping it simple was to save me time and effort. Over the course of two seasons another owner started using software to track the stats, that was even more simple than me doing it and I let him take total control of the league. So from day one the simpleness of the league was to avoid it from being time consuming to figure the weekly scores. Now, for the second Survivor league I do not tabulate any numbers, I'm more of the "Godfather" in Old School than a Commish. So really at the end of the day somebody else is adding up the numbers and if he's willing to keep adding them up I'm all for divisions, and expanded rosters, setting lineups etc. To avoid my inbox from getting 18 lineups mailed to me weekly we decided to add up and figure each teams BEST lineup after the fact, it was just easier that way.

So to summarize I'm guilty of flying the "keep it simple" flag more often than not from habit. SHAK DOES ALL OF THE WORK, so as far as I'm concerned I'm just a dude in the league like anybody else who just happened to create the first Survivor League.

Another thing (double post)...

Originally I didn't want to hear any crap about tweaking my idea, it was not a democracy, it was MY WAY OR THE HIGHWAY. See I was a regular at the huddle.com and to SIMPLIFY things I put together rules, scoring, payouts etc. and put it out on the site to see if others were interested. Owners were eligible if they had 100+ posts at the huddle, first 17 plus me were in. Their was no debate and thh league filled in 1 day with a HUGE waiting list. The idea was solid, dudes were lining up to play. For some reason I like the nostalgic idea of playing the same way we did originally, but SHAK is doing all of the work so who am I to say how THINGS ARE GOING TO BE DONE. Change is not bad, I just don't want Shak Daddy (and others) overwhelmed with tracking 180 players stats each week. Thanks

The only reason I said anything is you ask people to vote and then when you don't like the outcome you start complaining. I would rather just Shak and the founding father (Scotty), plus whomever else wants to be on the Declaration of Independence just set the rules for each year and we proceed..then if you don't like them you don't have to play.

Well, I was stretching it a little. GS-11 pay is less than what I made as an E-8 with special duty pay, but combined with my retirement pay I am making more than what I was making and working less hours each day. I certainly encourage anyone to do at least 20 years and get those bennies for life. The retirement pay makes the house payment every month and always gives me the option to say "screw this job" without stressing the current bills.

Well the draft is in 3 days... I guess since there is no movement on the draft picks issue we are staying at 10... as pointed out earlier 11 in not feasible so it must be upped to 12 if it's happening...

That trade is great for HHM... Getting an extra 3rd round pick in such a deep draft is a great thing.. and it definitely over values the drop off of 1.2 (LJ, SJ) to whoever is there at 1.9 (Brown, B West, Addai, Gore, Henry, etc) I wonder what, if any, 'cash considerations' were exchanged as well...

BAck to football. How do you see picks 4-10 once LJ signs? I'll have a guess and what I would do:

4. Addai
5. Alexander
6. Gore
7. Westbrook
8. Parker
9. Henry
10. Rudi for me. but Bush will be taken by most.

One of those guys will be a bust for a 1st round pick...and I got a feeling it's either Gore or Parker, soley because of an injury.

My pick @ #4 will be either Addai or Alexander. I hoping for my other pick #12 either Maroney or Manning of course that pick will depend on what falls, but it's pretty cut and dry the top 10 will go as perdicted...I can understand why Cobb picked #10 after that it falls down a little.

Yes this could be propaganda!!

I wonder if you realize how painful it was for me to take Carson Palmer in the first round and it's my fault, 100%. Bad planning in both drafts have left me sort of pissed off. Taking the #3 and #16 spots was HORRIBLE mismanagement IMO. Would have been better at 6-9ish and 13-15ish because all of teh RB's I like were gone by 15 in both drafts and #3-#10 is a crapshoot anyways. I think teh best VALUE was getting a guy like Maroney later if you cant get LT or Jackson. Nobody to blame but me, bad bad planning (or no plan is the reality).

RBP- Don't feel too bad about Palmer. An elite QB a full season back playing knee surgery is a big plus (not to mention the WRs he has to throw to). And yes, value after LT comes in different ways. In the Iron Mike league, after I took LT instead of going with a middle-level tier RB I decided to go with one of the elite WRs left on the board (chose R. Will over Wayne).

As far as Maroney goes, I've learned from experience to stay away from anything under the direct control of that homeless bum coaching up in NE (except for Brady). He has really screwed me in years past with his handling of Dillon. No way I would take a risk like that again, especially the early rounds.

I'm in England. RBP it's a tough year to gauge were the drop offs are. I think after #10 it's a crap shoot and that includes Maroney who I think has enormous talent, but BSB is correct, they spread it around so much in NE that Brady is the only safe bet. I tried to stay away from the duo RB's teams early, I think Bush and Duece are the only safe bets. I look to see some improvement over last years numbers in E. James, so I'm relatively happy with Manning & EJ.

Scotty, I have no idea how you're going to survive week 5 in BW. First two picks with the same bye week and you don't pick again until 3.16 and will have to take a 2nd QB before too long. You are in a deep hole!

I like Brees and I like his bye week, but I didn't want to take him in the 2nd round. He didn't make it back to me in IM so I thought I would jump a little early in BW just to have two different approaches. I had about 10 other players I would have prefered to grab in this spot, but locking down a solid QB early is okay too I guess.

Thats the beauty of this format, you get worried about not having a decent QB or RB and sometimes gems fall in your lap..I did the same with taking EJ in IM, was too worried about the RB position i let Holt and Owens go...It's tough to juggle the Bye weeks and get the right player you want..I've passed on a few guys soley because Of bye week and hated it!!

I think that's based totally on that AP has Chester Taylor taking away carries and the other two are pretty much locked in as the starter. I have to admit AP looked damn good in the last pre-season game, If he stays healthy AP has to be the better back IMO..I think chester's days are numbered.

I have not passed on a player based on bye week yet...but I know I took two players with week 5 bye weeks, which pretty much eliminates the rest of the players with week 5 byes....so eventually it will matter, Big Time!

I have passed on guys who are injury concerns to me. If this was a "regular league" I would have drafted much differently, as would have everybody else.

My strategy on Bye weeks are that you spread out your early picks and if you have too and everyone does, double up with your later picks..I never have the same bye weeks with my first 4 picks..I think it works and your better players are never off at the same time.

The new skin on the BW board are the girls he met on the beach in California one day in the early 80's. Later that day he had a premonition and invented the West Coast offense. He went back to look for the girls and realized they were just a fantasy. Nevertheless, the offense remained and it became a very successful fixture in the NFL. Upon his death, he was reunited with his fantasy girls he met that day on the west coast beach.

What time is it here? Im not sure based on your time zone. So here is an example. If the early football games are at noon they will be at 7pm here. Does that help? How about this example. If a train leaves Baltimore going 50 kph and and plane leave L.A. going 400 mph...wait a sec, Joe had a Coke bottle in his ass?? I know you can clean off battery terminals with it but what the hell kind of home remedy is that?

I think Grim Reaper and Travis have work issues, they seem to be the two people holding up the draft..not sure why they don't pre-draft if that's the case. TT had a drunk night out on the town, I think he's back in the fold.

A healthy Portis is better then both those guys..just depends on how many touches Betts gets, I'd go out on a limb and say Jackson will eventually be the man...Jacobs scares me...

Ed I agree that a healthy Portis is easily better than the other two, I just think he's too banged up to be a true #1 RB and I seriously doubt he'll be reliable enough to justify his draft slot as a #2 RB. I'm just avoiding him altogether.

So their I am, doing some extensive research on my next few pick in both leagues as I'm awaiting TT to pick. I go read articles on TSN, footballguys, CBS about a few players that are available. I crunch numbers regarding bye weeks, who these players play during key weeks, look deep into ADP to see who I could get in the next rounds etc. I finally, after exhaustive research think I've found THE ONE PLAYER WHO FITS ALL OF MY NEEDS, and I've convinced myself that at this stage in the game he's a GREAT VALUE PICK. So I go to bed, convinced that my "guy" who I've pre-selected in both leagues is going to be there and I'm proud of myself for "finding" this so called diamond in the rough. Well lo and behold GCobb screws up my whole plan by selecting Tatum Bell 2 picks before me, sending me into a tail spin. So this morning I was a little dissapointed but what are you going to do. I actually put more time into my 4th round pick than my 1st, 2nd and 3rd rounder combined...and I didn't even get my guy. Collosal waste of time :-)

It's not a good story. Just had to get it off my chest that Cobb "screwed me". I'm in deep trouble if Tatum Bell is teh key to my season...that being said I think in Detroits offense he will be #2 RB worthy as the season plays out. Mark it down, we can discuss it again as the season plays out.

BSB--I was somewhat prepared for it because I picked another player...it's that I was LOCKED AND LOADED on Player A, and invested lots of time deciding that Player A was THEE GUY and he goes the pick prior while I'm sleeping. I didn't see it coming, blind sided by GCobb swooping in to cherry pick TATUM FREAKIN BELL away from me.

"Britt Reid, the son of Eagles coach Andy Reid, was taken into custody in Plymouth Township this afternoon after failing a sobriety test that followed his driving into a shopping cart, said Joe Lawrence, the assistant police chief.

Reid was taken to Mercy Suburban Hospital for a blood test to check for drugs and alcohol, said Lawrence.

Reid, 22, is out on bail awaiting sentencing in another criminal case: Earlier this month, he pleaded guilty to a weapons charge and three other criminal charges stemming from a road-rage case."

Guy waits 11 hours to make his pick and picks a category that does not even exist and he gets to re pick, meanwhile, someone makes a valid mistake, typo, brain fart, whatever and takes alot less to pick and he is stuck with that mistake. Still doesnt make sense to me, and that was what the 11th round should have been for. Thank you tribe for pointing this out again...

Actually, he busted the time limit and the computer selected a defense for him. That was an error with the setup, but I don't know if there's a way for me to prevent that. Since it was the computer that selected the defense, I went in and gave him the highest rated player available, KW3.

I have to say now as I look at the two leagues going, the lack of pre-drafting is really strange. Is it lazy, or people just want to draft at the moment they are due. There have been a couple times when about 6 or 7 teams pre drafted in a row which speeds things up, but seriously, if you have less then five teams ahead of you your options are there, its not gonna change. Cant force anyone to pre-draft, I Know that, that is why the time limits were put in place (so the person that busts the limit is awarded the highest ranked player left? What ever happened to the person just drafting when they finally get back to the board. If they loses 6 positions its their own fault so who really cares) It is just that waiting over 24 hours to draft just once in a league is not much fun. I Know we have plenty of time till the season starts, but whatever, I Just feel like venting, been a bad week and this has taken my mind off some things, when Im active in it.

2 years ago I was drafting out of the 18th spot and the first round wasn't moving fast. I didn't want to set a queue for both picks because how much would it suck to get back to back RBs with the same bye weeks? A lot would be the answer. I remember something giving me hell for holding that draft up for a while (yes-during my sleep time) and for the last two years they've had plenty of long spells between their own picks. Anytime the draft gets within 10 picks of me it isn't hard to set a queue. The only exception would be if I know I am available to keep checking in and if it's at a point where I might want to grab a QB or see how the draft is flowing. 5 picks away is an auto queue unless, like now, I am on my computer dicking around.

Oh well, Ed is right. 100% guarantee it will happen again next year. The good news is that we started in plenty of time to finish early in spite of those with the long wait times.

Tribe busted out last year and I believe was awarded Carson Palmer after being skipped for about 13 picks. I found this in last years thread:
Pick 6.06
HarmonJ selected Bears, Chicago CHI Def

I thought it happened last year too. That wasn't an auto-pick, though.

Here were the longer (2 hours+) draft times after 7 rounds from last season:
Average Time Waiting For Pick To Be Made in WP
Midget Mauler 7 hours, 51 minutes 7
TrashHaulers 2 hours, 14 minutes 8
Tribe 2 hours, 9 minutes 7

Average Time Waiting For Pick To Be Made in RW
Terry Tate 3 hours, 42 minutes 7
Midget Maulers 2 hours, 39 minutes 7
Tribe 4 hours, 18 minutes 7
Gum Sellers 2 hours, 20 minutes 8
