Cards and I wanted to thank the league for a great IDP draft. We posted the final chart in the last thread, but that's mainly for us to be able to go back and refer to in future drafts as we try and figure out a drafting schedule. 29 mins avg is very very nice for us to get to the S draft in a timely manner.

Had my eye on him for awhile... then last minute I mulled over it and doubled thought my decision... Out of what was out there, he has to be best long term potential IMO

Whew, glad thats over with.

Can we get a moderator to fix Promize's pick?

I'm sure you meant Calvin Johnson!

That's a nicevalue pick. I know for a fact there were a couple people who would have taken CJ #1 overall. I figured he'd go #3--though wouldn't have been shocked if Twarpy got him either.

LOL see how nervous and undecided about that pick?

And yah, I really thought Twarpy was going to pick him considering his 3 RB's... But then I started thinking with Vick down, he might go with a QB

Keep in mind, Chambers and picks are available for an upgrade at WR if anybody is interested later in the draft.

I don't really like what I came out with in the IDP draft because I had to reach for Posluzny then Greenway is an X factor - really should have gone with something more proven.

Hali and Rhodes I love at least...ah well.

Yeah it was a tough decision, Droughns will probably get some goal line carries, but wanted a strong starting 3 RB's to go with Holt. I am happy with my WR/RB situation now, but need to improve at QB.

I agree Promize that Calvin probably has more long term potential, but in a 24 team where you should be starting 3 RB's I just couldnt pass up on Lynch. Curious to hear what the rest of the league would have done if they were debating between Calvin or Marshawn.

Lynch, every time. You can never have too many RBs. You can trade a decent RB for anything else that you need.

Hopefully I didn't blow my whole draft taking Jackson as my #1 pick. I really like the looks of this guy, and I think it is likely he would have won the starting job in GB on his own, even without Morency being out.

I'm betting, however, that this guy can turn into a solid 900-1000 yard, 10 td player for years to come.

PD, I will comment more later but really think Jackson will do well. GB certainly thinks he will.

Got it Toral.

FWIW, Promize, when you updated your pick, you chagned the time stamp by like 7 mins. No biggie but the c chart will give you back that time.

Yeah, I had Jackson pegged a couple months back but he's just received too much pub lately. Of course he had to be on national tv the day we kick this damn draft off too. ;-) Kinda sucks, but that's the way it works. :-) Onto sleeper number two. 45 picks till I pick again. Have fun fellas.

I had Boston @ 17 and thought I was too high with him. He's looking like a #1 in TB right now though, and with Garcia chucking the ball in Chuckie's O scheme, Boston might really return to form.

concerned about the wording in 43. Since both only have one pick in each of those rounds, it's difficult to trade the highest of one pick. You can't trade a pick you don't have yet. I'm trying to think if we could add a condition to the trade that would stipulate any other trade obtained, etc., but essentially you already have that pick as value to trade elsewhere...

If there is only one pick in the round in question, that will be the pick being traded. But we want to eliminate any confusion in case later trades gives either of us two picks in the round in quesiton.

DAVID BOSTON ARRESTED

Only once since the inception of the "days without an arrest" counter has the number extended beyond 20. As of Friday morning, it was at 19 and counting.

That's all changed. Bucs receiver David Boston was arrested Thursday night on charges of driving under the influence.

Boston was found passed out at the wheel of a Range Rover with the engine running. After conducting a field sobriety test, police officers decided to arrest him.

But a breath test reportedly showed no alcohol in his system. Results of a urine test are pending. It's possible that he was under the influence of something other than alcohol.

Some NFL observers might think that the arrest will mar Boston's attempt to make the 53-man roster in Tampa. But with coach Jon Gruden needing to win this year in order to save his job, Gruden won't sweat the incident all that much. After all, the Bucs signed Jerramy Stevens.

Thanks ds, I posted there too. My Q was picked clean in both drafts.

Trying to figure out these trade offers and putting out a couple inquiries of my own. I am still shocked Tavaris Jackson went so high and to whom he went, but I understand it had to be a value pick. That has thrown off my whole draft as I came into the draft w/o a QB. Croyle may or may not start and if he does, he will prob lose points each week. So w/o a reasonable offer for yet another QB, I'm going to go with Croyle and pick another position here. It's tough as I'm trying to rebuild while putting playes on the field this year who can at least compete a little bit so they have a chance of putting up some points. If I was teh KC coach, I'd start Huard, but apparently Herm is leaning Croyle.

I'd probably have taken Tavaris Jackson myself. 2 starting QB's would be a good luxury. I actually had him pegged in the top 10 after all the obvious choices at RB and rookie QB's were exhausted.

And I know PD certainly wanted him at 1.14 which is why we originally started talking trade.

Slizz made an offer to me for Tavaris but I felt I couldn't afford it. I don't have a QB if I trade Croyle. So if I'd have to land another QB before I could move him. All of the KC media is saying Croyle should be teh starting QB in KC--tho Herm said yesterday that he's not ready to make an official announcement.

My assessment is that Neither Jackson or Croyle will do much this year. Minny doesn't have the WRs. KC doesn't have the OLine it once had. Neither KC QB is doing much. I like Tavaris better and he does have speed. Just hard to pay a King's ransom when the avg points they will put up is minimal at best. Both are keeper candidates. Frye probably isn't a keeper candidate though if he starts the whole year will have some value this year--but is clearly a rental with Quinn there. Some of the QB offers that have been made to me are also one year "rentals" IMM. While many teams have to rebuild, we also are charged with being as competitive as possible along the way. But with my team clearly one of the worst after keepers were posted, I just needed to be smart when it came to not only this position but others as well.

I really thought I would be able to land Anthony Gonzalez and was counting on it. I was also looking at Dwayne Jarrett but was sure I would get Gonzalez. I really felt I had to take a WR with this pick since I don't have another pick until the 4th round now. Hopefully Jarrett seals the #2 WR spot this year and has a productive year.

Does anyone have any extra picks? What I am looking for here is something like...

my 2.22, 5.18 for 2 4th's + your last pick (extra 7th)?

The other reason I want to get that 5.18 moved up a bit is because I am leaving on Sunday morning for 5 days and at least if I get everything up into the 4th then I can leave a more reasonable que for all those picks. Then I can just throw out 25 names for my 7th rounder and Slizz or Ref can pick it for me.

Here was my mock draft of the top 10 based on value and team needs.

1. DS--Peterson--obvious #1
2. Twarpy--Lynch--best rookie numbers(though CJ would really mesh)
3. Promize--Calvin Johnson--last of the must haves
4. PD--Quinn--though Jacksson might be a smidge better, PD needs a franchise QB and with his love of the Browns that should sway it
5. Pete--Jackson--Only has Portis. No brainer
6. Yokel--Henry--Best available--though he has no WR and with his love of the Colts wouldn't be surprised for him to go Gonzo. Russell could also go here.
7. sw--Russell--with McNair for this year, Russell seems to be the obvious pick for te future.
8. mjd--A Gonzales--best player left and cold be huge if he fills the Stokley void from a couple years ago. Could take catches from the TEs.
9. Toral--Olsen--best player left. Fills a need
10. SW--Bush--tough call here. Several others could go but uncertainty in the Raiders backfield. Jordan not playing well and Rhodes suspended. Could easily trade down here.

Re: 84... correct. I didn't see anyone who was gonna make me / break me current-year, so figured I'd make a pick for next year. I think his prospects are very high... especially with all the relatively young talent that team has a RB and WR. Not to mention their D sucks, which forces them to throw a lot.

Also, when I picked at 1.13 I had a list of 7 guys I would like and figured at least one would drop through to my next pick, only 13 picks away. Based on past draft experience in this league, there's always several picks that surprise, or that make sense but just don't match MY team needs... so usually guys who I like slip through.

Well, this year the surprise was that everyone else had the same guys as me... so my 7-man queue went at 1.15 then in a row 1.18-1.23.

Oh well. I guess I'll be someone else's surprise this year by taking Stanton. :)

Bad weather cancelled the rest of my plans so I'm here afterall today. Have been working on the c clock chart. Noticed in baseball we had 12 hours time for 14 picks and did well. In this draft we have 11 hrs for 7 picks. I still think we will be ok because of our quick IDP draft. Not counting a lot of time for Qs and blackout time, etc means there is a lot more time unaccounted for--but we're on pace for a round per day which is a little better than expected. Am expecting a little bit of a slow down with the weekend and choices getting much tougher.

Then I am going to email some really late spec picks and instructions to SLizz for pick 5.18 and 7.01. He'll be in charge of those while I'm away.

DS,

Thanks for help and headsup last night... LOL out of 24 people, you only one that called me... Considering the whole league has my number now.

I hope I wasn't to rude, but with about 10 people staring at me because I was the dealer, and on the final table, I had the pressure to keep things going.

I had Wade last year on my squad, so all is good... I did figure out who I really wanted early this morning, but maybe I can pick him up later... possibly next round...

Thanks again!

mbj, i looked at him hard. Just took Demetrius as he has more upside. I think Furrey will be squeezed out eventually but if he gets healthy I think he will have value. Obviously, for me, the future is more appealing. Obviously, I'm trying to figure out some players who score now as well as later too.

I'm still in talks with multiple managers about a starting QB. If you also have one you'd consider moving, shoot me a note.

Well if you have significant other they will love the wine tasting, plus its super cheap most places give it away for free. The Haunted house shit on Clifton Hills, and the Ripleys stuff is really kinda dumb but can be a filler for the afternoon. You really are not going to want to eat right on the strip because they absolutely rip you off, you can go outside of NF like 10-15 mins and eat somewhere for half the cost. I forget what restaurant it was but like a TGI Fridays on the strip was 50% more than one 15 mins outside of NF, tripadvisor would let you know.

In terms of clubs if you are into it, Dragonfly is real nice and is at the base of the casino, as well as rumours (but rumours is more of a look at me Im a drunk American who isnt quite 21, but 19-20 and can drink in a bar legally). The casino is fairly nice, some decent tables but not something I enjoy doing unless its at night.

I've been alerted to a mistake on my chart. If you are up and don't already have a q sent before then--you are charged the time it takes for someone to post for you just as if you are posting yourself. Chart will be corrected next time I post. Classic TB, yeah bmd and thk would have to essentially each time out twice (3 hours each) in order to be skipped.

Yeah I like his potential, plus Ive gone with a trying to be competitive approach this year, despite having an absolute crap year last year I still think I can do a little damage this year.

Yeah, once you are skipped (he timed out of his last pick earlier--since the charts were posted after last round) once and don't make up that pick, you continue to be skipped until you do as it's obvious he's not around. Same idea why in a snake draft the end person only gets one clock. If he would have made up his skipped pick before he was up again, then he would have gotten up to 3 hours to pick again.

Maybe. I think skinneej summed it up nicely in the post above. I know this draft is really crazy with everyone having different agendas, but in the few straight rookie drafts I've seen, Rice was right there around 10. He seems to be in a good situation for a rookie. Better than most....

OK thk finally picked. Good thing I'm not as a hardass as rfs was when he was here with me. His rule was that if you itmed out twice in the same draft he kicked you out of the league...and true to his word, he did it. The c clock thing works much better as stuff happens to otherwise good managers which are unavoidable.

This is getting a little ridiculous though when you consider the keepers, the timed out picks in the IDP and S drafts and the failure to pick up players and email the managers coming up. It is being addressed so no need to send us any more notes about it.

Last year it was college, moving back in, working, and turning 20. Next year it will be college, moving back in, working, and turning 22. Guess what? It never ends. There is always something going on in everyone's life. There is always a to-do list, work that needs to be completed, etc.

Happy B-day.

You are right TB and G24 isn't number one on my priority list. While I do love my squad and the competition in this league - I do what I can to make my picks. If I don't make them on time and have been skipped - I gladly make up my pick and am not all that concerned about it.

I would try to make a Q but I have been on the internet about once per day, which makes it tough when I am 10+ picks away. I should have left a Q in round 2, and I apologize for that. However, I do what I can, but with limited access to the internet each day until things settle down - I can't do much more.

I'm not sweating you guy, but you continue to make excuses. G24 isn't a priority in anyone's life. It's fantasy football. We all do it for fun. Thankfully, not everyone has the same nonchalant attitude towards the draft or it would probably quite being fun quite quickly. If I ever get bored with it or find I don't have the time to meet my commitments, I will quit playing.

I am trying to put together some semblance of a queue to send to Ref. Ref, IF MY QUEUE IS GONE BY THE TIME OF A PICK FOR ME TOMORROW, SKIP ME. Don't bother waiting 3 hours. We did a great job through the weekend. Our goal is one round per day, but we did have some extra time built in. We got through the IDP draft ahead of schedule and that saved us about a day. We mayhave been able to start the draft today--but then we are cutting it very tight and have no room for error.

The Yellow boxes show the last pick of the day and it's pretty consistent. We will use this in planning for next year, but with the additional 3 rounds--it will be really tough to start any later than we did--all depends what we want. I know I'd have made some different picks based on what I know now about the NFL players if we could have started today--but everyone's in the same situation.

I added Peterson #2 and Chatman. Haven't went through every team and picked up their players yet but noticed these two so nabbed them. No worries, but if you don't have all of your players please add them. We will start going through and trying to find others later.

Roster Grid: No idea why some players are not showing up on there. I have one and several other teams have one. Going to ask CBS as I do find this helpful when searching for trade partners and others do too apparently.

Ref, what I noticed is that any player that we kept that had been moved into the flex position is not showing on the roster grid. For instance, I had Williamson in that spot along with the other WRs that I was debating on keeping. I dropped the rest, but he is the only player not showing up on my grid.

sj, that is another reason we did away with the flex option. I just dropped burress and picked him back up and it fixed it. CBS hasn't responded yet but since we know that works, that's prob what we'll have to do. Thing is that it's not every player put as a flex just like one per team or so.

Many teams have this issue. Go to your roster grid and if a player doesn't show up, go ahead and drop him and pick him back up. Make sure you post or email us so we can go in and delete that transaction so it doesn't mess up our count when getting ready for the season.

The Texans would have worked for me on my week 7 bye as they had the Titans at home, but they were really the only one I would have considered. Lions had the same bye as my D already.

Decided to take a flier on a former #1 with this pick. Maybe he'll decide to play this year.

Coming into the draft I liked the 49ers the best. Thought briefly about them at 2.16 but thought I prob needed to take a player with upside there. Didn't matter as they went several picks before 2.16. Considered the Rams D seriously, but went a different way. Then I decided on them and they went right before my next pick. After looking at my player options and how unknown the Benglas D will be this year and how underated the Titans seem to be, I nabbed them. I know several will need a DST for their bye week and if one or both of these have some good weeks, there will be some value to help my rebuilding process. If I hadn't thought about guys like Bullock, Hope, Al "keep your feet to yourself" Haynesworth, Thornton, Harper, etc. I might have stayed away from them as well.

I have a long Q for TB, but I am not clear if I was to use it for more than one pick. So rather than be wrong, I'm going to wait on him to respond. If he comes close to timing out then I'll make a pick for him with the next in line. We've been conversing today so hoping he's close to his email. I didn't realize he was up again so quickly. My guess is that he wants to use it. If so, no time will be charged to him.

Looking at the c clock chart, it is impossible for anyone else to time out of the draft. If thk is up in the next three, please copy him but skip over him when emailing the next three as he doesn't have an exclusive draft time anymore but may pick at anytime after the person in front of his remaining slots are made. Will go ahead and complete the chart for future references and for your entertainment purposes if interested. (I know Twarpy is trying to win the "least time used" title.)

There have been several ideas going around about possible tweaks or adjustments to the IDP rules moving forward. I think that we can discuss them as the season progresses and then esp. in the off-season thread.

Some of the ideas for possible ideas include (but not nec. limited to):

-Adding return yards
-Bumping Sacks up an additional point to help DLs
-Adding another IDP Flex position
-Keeping 10 no restrictions
-Keeping 10 including at least two IDPs

As the season progresses people may change their minds for or against these and have more ideas.

I have actually come up with that I think is the rational way, the strategy, for dealing with round 7 picks.

So I have a queue. I will send it to Ref.

And to StlCards: StlC, please send me an e-mail at the above e-address. I am having problems figuring out gmail, how you quickly send a mail to someone who is not on your Quick Contact list. It is very easy, however, to *reply* to an e-mail. So just send me an e-mail saying "TEST", or how are your horses doing? or why are you such an ass? or whatever.

If my Q goes to both ref and StLCards, I think I'm done. Thanx to the league for keeping this going quickly. I am moving, and it appears that over Labour Day weekend...I will be without Internet, without cable, or even antenna, without phone service. Nothing can start till Tuesday. OhmiGod what will I do? I will have to walk in the park or read a book or something.

Cards identified and solved the problems with the roster grid issues. Apparently it was impossible to fix the flex issues w/o dropping the players as I suspected, but he figured out how to find and identify every player affected. That could have really been a mess once the season started as we didn't even have a place for flex anymore. Anyhow, everyone should be all good moving forward.

After the last pick is made, we've always given a reasonable amount of time on that same day for anyone to complete their pick(s). Thus far we've never had to shut the draft down with incomplete picks, but to allow somone to wait would be an unfair advantage which could short-circuit the WW priority. In other words, news could come up and that manager would be the only one who could get him.

So to answer your question, there is not a hard and fast rule, but we wouldn't give that manager so much time that news might come out that would impact those who did pick on time. Thos made up picks have always come pretty quickly and it's never been an issue.

Understood. Would it be anti-social if I took my full remaining 8+ hours to make my round 7 pick. The argument could go that if you are quick on your early picks then you can be rewarded on taking as long as you want on the last pick.

The c clock is just for future reference and entertainment purposes now as it no lomger impacts anyone for this draft except for thk who had his expire. Obviously, I thought you meant how long did skipped picks get to be made up after the last pick was made/timed out.

I was looking at the instuctions to the draft and it says that if we miss a pick we can make it up at any time. I realise that the intent is that the draft should be completed within a set period. But the question was how long is that period? While using "any time" would allow you to wait until the season begins or later this would not be sensible. I was then suggesting that we could use any remaining time on the clock, in my case 8 hours, to make the pick.

Well you only have 3 hours left as whatever time you didn't use is irrellevant I guess. But if you time out of your pick as the last pick, we will still give you some time to pick before closing the draft. I guess I did understand you afterall. ;) Just because you timed out as the lsat pick doesn't mean you don't get to make your pick even though the draft has theoretically finished, it's not over until we declare it concluded. But as the last pick you'd still need to make that pick in a short window before we'd close the draft. There may be others who need to make up their pick as well.

Btw, we are not in such a hurry that you should feel obligated to have your pick skipped. If we don't get finished tonight as expected it is ok. Some feel the last round pick is the first one to be dropped so they aren't worried and while that is probably ture, you just never know.

Found the extra pick. thk is done with the draft even though he had a pick left. Doug is a pick short and can fill his team on the FA/WW. GO and sj are both at max roster even though go had 8 picks and sj 6 picks with that uneven trade coming into the draft. That chart really makes it easy to spot problems. The top and bottom really help with the checks and balances too.

RE: 211 One Man's Opinion:

After reading the handful of suggestions Ref has thrown out to us, I would like to offer up my two cents. First off, I would not support adding return yards as a statistical category for our league to boost up the importance of some players otherwise deemed as worthless in the world of fantasy football. It literally weights IDP’s who return punts/kicks that much more valuable then anyone else, sometimes even RB’s. For instance, I had Pacman Jones during my playoff run last season, and there were times he was scoring 30 plus points just for my team alone in a single week. Pacman not only was eating all the dots, but also topping some of LT's heroic performances.

While I do recognize the importance of Special Teams in the NFL, something is wrong when you have an IDP outperforming the marquee Runningback in the NFL, LT. The only way I could envision that working in a league like this is if Defenses got 0 points for anything special teams related and created an extra roster spot for a special teams player.

Additionally, bumping sacks up would not help or detract from anything on our rosters…we all have to carry DL's anyways. Therefore, I think the change would be insignificant or put more emphasis on DL's early on in next year’s draft.

Last but not least, I think since we held this IDP draft keeping 10 makes sense. We have our 8 main roster spots: 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 DEF, 1 FLEX/K and 2 or 3 IDP. You still get to keep a significant amount of your roster in tact from the previous season on both sides of the ball and put a considerable amount of emphasis on draft picks.

We need not overweigh return yardage, Slizz. It depends upon how it is scored. Say, 1 point for every 25 return yards (plus, of course, any return TDs) might be slight enough so it isn't overweighing, while giving a player his due.

Truth is, those IDPs (and WRs) who return kicks do give more value to their teams than those who don't. A second-string WR or DB who returns kicks is more valuable in the NFL than one who doesn't.

That said, I think we need to see how IDP scoring works this season. My own belief is that tackles are weighing pretty heavily, but we'll see how that works.

PD, using your point suggestions...something is wrong when Wes Welker has almost as much fantasy value as Anquan Boldin, just b/c he returns kicks.

Not counting receptions, Wes Welker had a total of 131 points vs Anquan Boldins 144. Thats less then a point/week in terms of fantasy value!!! That would make the Wes Welkers and Devin Hesters of the NFL fantasy studs and would change the whole landscape of who would have got drafted where in this years supplemental. I would contend that each should've been taken in the 1st round.

Again, if we are going to start counting IDP Special Teams as a category, it would make it useless to have Defenses benefit from a special teams KR/PR points. Although it might sound silly, what I would be for is adding return yards to a specific defense. At least every team would benefit from that, some more then others due to the talent they would have returning kicks and punts...just a suggestion.

We're not locked into any points scheme, Slizz, particularly one that is obviously unbalanced.

But I don't think we need discount kick returns altogether. A guy who gets 60 yards in returning kicks is 60 yards his team doesn't have to get on the ground or through the air, and really should count for something. Last year the top return guys were valuable to their teams (not as much as their stars, of course, so we should be careful about the scoring. But more valuable than many IDPs.)

Stripping away the ST from DST is an interesting idea.

I need to note, however, that return yardage is not the exclusive domain of IDPs. About half of return guys in the NFL are listed as offensive players.

Good points from both.

I will tell you what was discussed in the committees. We looked at 1/25 points for Kick returns and 1/10 points on punt returns. We also considered return yards for INT and Fumbles with INTR at 1/25 and FUMR at 1/10. It was ultimately decided that points via these routes (espt INTR and FUBR) were so haphazard that it could skew points and wouldn't reward picks for otherwise better players. IOW, too hard to predict. Also felt that it gave points to players who were already owned like a Steve Smith, etc. But we left it open for re-adding it once the league weighed in on it. Once that happened I think only GO posted as supporting it.

As far as Keepers go, that was really difficult subject. Last year we voted to take Keepers from 9 to 8. I am not sure if anyone on the Rules Committee agreed with exactly how to do it, but ultimately it was decided that the managers shouldn't be told who they had to keep as in minimum IDPs or must keep a DST, etc. We also figured that most would only keep one IDP and if you wanted to keep 2, then you'd have to use strategy on who else you'd need to cut. Looking at rosters, we figured most would dump their Kickers and Kickers probably shouldn't be kept for the most part anyhow. I had initially proposed 10 Keepers with 2 min IDPs but the argument made to me/us is compelling so we shall see. After we voted, Doug proposed that we change it to 8 O-Keeps and 2 IDP Keeps. Two others agreed. Were looking for a couple others to pipe up but no one did. We got some interesting messages who were pissed we were even considering another vote as they were so against it--but we would have if there were more support.

I think this year will tell us a lot. DO we need to add another IDP slot (we almost had 5 this year with another flex)? Do we add another Keeper? Do we add some of the changes talked about earleir?

I will particularly be looking at INTR and FUMR instances as I watch games to see what happens. 4 points per hundred doesn't seem like many points to make a difference, but who knows?

We will also see if a 2nd IDP is more valuable than that Kicker or 3rd WR or backup RB etc too. I think we will all know a lot more when we see what kind of position we are in next July/August.

Just for my own curiosity I would be interested to hear from some of the people who were really really opposed to adding 2 more IDP-keepers just why they were so opposed. I can understand why someone would be against it, but can't understand why anyone would be passionately strongly against it; I can't figure out why anyone would really hate the idea.

Maybe if you were opposed to adding IDPs in the first place, a proposal making them even more valuable might get somebody steamed.

Had the draft order for the IDP draft been decided when this discussion was being held? Arguably adding 2 IDP keepers might be to the benefit of people picking high in the first round. The argument would be that they get a chance at a few superkeepers who have really tremendous value. Sure, they draft at the end of the second round, but one might argue that by that point there's not really much difference in value between the players available in the middle of the second round and those available at the end of the second round. (That's why people with a choice of draft position in a snake draft generally take a top slot if available.)

Now of course a vote for adding 1 or 2 IDP-only keepers in 2008 will be impossible to pass, because young studs still developing would be much more valuable than a 34-year old guy who is expected to be better this year but has only a year or two left at that level. Adding IDP-keepers in 2008 based on this draft would be unfair to those who selected London Fletcher-Baker types, and they would be justifiably furious at such an idea. Any such proposal, if considered, shouldn't be allowed to come into effect until 2009. Maybe it would be unfair even then; the guyz with the young superstuds could make them regular keepers in 2008 and they would then be eligible to be IDP-only keepers in 2009. Nope, I have a feeling this idea is dead, which is why I would have really liked to see a vote on this idea while no one had a strong interest for or against. But as ref said there just wasn't much public support.

Too bad in that I was for the idea. But then I wasn't passionately for it. I can't see why anybody would be passionate on either side of the debate, except based on their draft position this year.

Re: 253, I agree and made this same point at the time I proposed it... that if we want to add a keeper or mandate IDP keepers, that needed to be done PRIOR to the initial IDP draft we recently completed.

The earliest we could possibly implement such a change would be for 2009 season... and if we're going to do so, we should still do so sooner rather than later, as it could affect trades, roster moves non-playoff teams might make at the end of this season, etc.

Sorry about all the time on my last pick. I emailed my queue to four people but am guessing none of them had a chance to come pick for me. I went a different direction with the pick anyway, so worked out better for me.

Toral, I wanted more starters and more IDP keepers but to answer your question, the draft order wasn't determined until all the rules were finalized.

Ditto that Doug, I didn't draft IDPs or draft overall with the idea of keeping any IDPs past this season. If I had thought that, there were several LB's I would have chosen over the picks I made.

I was under the impression Keepers were static or weren't going going to be "player" specific. That's be like saying you have to keep a "QB" or a "RB" on your keeper list. Or you can't drop a specific player from your roster.

TB, we nuked the flex position idea because, to put it bluntly, CBS aren't the world's best coders. We went back to min maxes. It's still flexes but simply makes you start a minimum at a given position while allowing a max at that positon too as we've always done it.

Don't know how on Earth you're able to do that but I'll see if I can duplicate it so we can see what needs to be done.

Wait a sec, there is no IDP flex position? Before the IDP draft started I went to the rules page and it is still listed there:

Starters:
1 QB
1 WR
1 RB
1 TE
1 Kicker
1 Defense / Special Teams
2 Flex- can be any TE, RB or WR
1 DL
1 LB
1 DB
1 Flex-can be any DB, LB or DB

I based my draft picks (bye weeks) off of that flex position.

OK, I think I found the loophole and not sure how I can fix it yet. If anyone has any ideas let me know but I know Cards and I will talk about this tonight.

Before when there was no IDP, we have a minimum o 1 RB and max of 3 and a min of 1 WR with a max of three. We also have a min and max active roster at the same number.

So by adding the IDP numbers we have added min of 1 LB, DL, DB with a max of 2 of each.

However, there is no flag because you are meeting your min guidelines of 1 dl/lb/db as well as meeting the min/max active roser guideline and also at the max of RB or WR.

So...my first thought is to add a felx IDP spot which was causing scoring issues (CBS says it will fixed by the time the season starts) or we allow it as is and check everyone's lineup.

I personally dont understand the love of having a second IDP keeper. I would not have voted for IDP as Toral alludes to, if we had to have two IDP keepers. There are quite a few problems I see with adding keepers and as I have stated many times before I would be more than happy to bring our base keepers down to seven (not including IDP at all).

I still feel this league of the three leagues has the least amount of 'ability to change' your team from year to year. Hardly anyone trades in this league (minus bye week trading) with the mantra that every player is "a possible keeper of mine". Finally this year we seemed to get rid of 20 teams keeping a kicker which is a huge positive in my opinion. I personally like leagues which force you each year to make tough decisions on your keepers. I do understand though that this league was set up as something which closely mimics the NFL as possible, which in that case I do understand the thoughts of having more keepers, and shifting this league to more of a dynasty league.

Another factor which I also feel is important is that when you add keepers, it is harder for teams to rebuild. In leagues that have more rounds of supplemental drafts, and less keepers (lets face it most abandonded teams suck) have a much greater chance to catch up in my opinion, and don't put such a huge emphasis on getting lucky in the draft to even come close to catching upto the better teams.

As always its cliche, but I want whats best for the league I will support. Toral et al who support adding IDP keepers, I'm not a person who is 'passionately against' adding keepers I just have yet to see how adding keepers would benefit the league but am always willing to 'keep' an open mind :)

Cards and I have determined that we did in fact have to add a DL-LB-DB Flex position in order to fix the loophole that TB found. However, we will keep the RB/WR flex positions coded as we always have and not use the specific Flex positions we looked at using earlier this year. We hope that CBS is right when they say these flex positions will in fact work by te time the season starts.

Thanks for finding that TB. Averted a potential problem down the road.

Toral you bring up valid points and basically spot on with your analysis in my view. I'm a middle round guy (mr. mediocre in this league) and did not think the IDP thing thru. I intentionally drafted younger guys for the fact they stay healthy. I'm absolutely intrigued by the nature of the IDP impact this year and interested in the overall league resolution. Ref stated it correctly IMO (paraphrasing) "wait and see" -- So basically, I'm a politician right now...flip flopping on the impact of IDP.

Supplemental Draft Recap

Everyone is invited to discuss the draft.

The draft is over but Cards and I have to go through the settings and make sure all teams are right etc. Once every thing is set up we will get waivers started and the order set. More information to come.

...but what surprised me the most was Stephen Gostkowski pick combined with the run on kickers in the 2nd round.

I wanted Gostkowski and I was going to take him in the second round. Needless to say I was disappointed when Twarpy took him and I wasn't going to let my "number 2" kicker get away.

I liken the run on kickers to looting, once the window is broken, grab what you can and run like hell.

If you look at that round as round 2 then that means over half the kickers were already gone in rounds -7 through zero.

I look at round 2 as round 10 and I got a dome kicker on what should be a fairly high scoring team.

Toral does make some good points, however what makes no sense to me is to treat the people who picked in the top portion of the draft like they have the Scarlet A painted on their chest.

Why dont we revisit this topic at the end of the season? That way, we can see if your contention that the people picking in the top of round 1 have a significant advantage to the keepers chosen *cough*Patrick Willis*cough* at the bottom round one/top round 2.

I am pretty confident that I would've got 3 out of 4 of the players on my team regardless of where I was drafting.

Live Scoring Test
We will be testing our Live Scoring functionality using Thursday and Friday's pre-season games. This is a good opportunity for you to make sure that it is working in your league. It is also a great time to make sure that your scoring system is setup correctly. The stats will be left up all weekend so that you can verify proper scoring in your league.

Go ahead and make all of your lineups legal. Many need to set one of your IDPs to the forced creation of the IDP flex in the starting lineup. Really want to see if CBS has fixed the scoring at that spot.

Going over the settings and I think I've got everything set up except for waivers and waiver order edits. Going to let Cards check my work. If we get waivers started today as expected the first Waivers will run early Sat morning. A couple people have indicated they might be leaving this weekend so if we can get waivers going today then those people can put a claim in before they leave. Waivers will lat ONE FULL DAY. Once waivers are turned on, our season will be live and we will start a new thread in the football forum. The Recap threads may continue to be utilized.

269 Twarpy Thanx. I now understand why someone could be passionately opposed to IDP keepers. If you add 4 positions without increasing the number of keepers, 4 more players per team (whether IDPs or something else) will be available in the Supplemental Draft, thus increasing the talent pool and making it easier for rebuilding teams to improve. Quite right, makes sense. I was for going from 9 to 8 keepers for basically the same reason as yours.

So the passion in this case is not about the general concept of having to keep IDPs, but about the effect of the change on the keeper system as a whole.

RE: Waivers

They run nightly except on Sun and Mon. So players dropped will last at LEAST one full day/ So if you drop a player at Noon, he will be on Waivers approx 1.5 days. If you drop him just before midnight, he will be on Waivers for about 24 hours (waivers generally run between 1 and 3 am ET). So no matter what time a player is dropped on a certain day, he will be on waivers the rest of that day and the next complete day. (Same as always for the vets).

Did not turn on waivers last night. The IDP flex spot is still not scoring any points and I've emailed CBS again on the situation. Hopefully they can figure it out and actually fix it instead of saying it will be fixed by opening night. This weekend was their test as they supposedly had it fixed now. I went through and made every lineup legal. Incredibly 7 teams had a total of 5 RB/WR combinations in their active lineup. This has never been allowed and shows that we need the flex spot set as it is. If they can't fix it, then we will have to change it back and constantly police it--which would be a pain.
