OK..I got hurt at RB. In the past, my WRs have absolutely killed me, so I decided to "try" a different tack this season. I wanted 2 "absolutes" at WR, a 3rd "solid" WR and a 4th "highly probable". I think I got that with:

Holt/R Williams/A Johnson and M Clayton. ALl 4, are thr nr1 WRs (or projected to be such) for their respective teams. Holt and Williams are the 2 "absolutes". Johnson actually burned me badly a cple years ago, but I got him by trying to "bid up" on him and his prioce was such that I didnt mind getting "stuck" with him. Clayton, was earmarked all along as my nr4. How strongly do I like my WR corps? I Bruce is my nr FIVE WR.

Now, bidding on them first, REALLY hurt my efforts at snaring starting RBs. Still, Jacobs and Bell show some potential and I dont like Portis "injury risk". Meaning, I like Betts chances of becoming the nr1 in Wash before midseason.

Gonzalez is a perennial at TE. Solid as they come and with Huard starting I think he'll be looking to Gonzo for a LOT of help this season. Should give Gonzo some VERY real opportunities. Miller as backup, showed some flashes and potential. He's only slated to start once all year, so I'm not worried and am hopeful that he might turn into something.

Bulger was my intended target for QB. Big Ben backing him up, is only slated for one start. We'll see how the season progresses.

NE D was my target too. AZ D is weak I know, but I like their potential during NEs bye week.

Best "buy" for me? Gonzo for $7. Worst? Prolly that I spent $2 for my K. *shrug*

First of all, thanks sarge for being our Roger Goodell. Firm, a little feisty, and fair.

Overall, I think I am very happy with my team. I was actually pretty surprised to get both Larry Johnson and Shaun Alexander for $48 and $46 respectively that early in the auction, and it put me in quite a bind for the remainder of the draft. Fortunately, Slowhand likes stud RBs, and I was able to move Alexander for Edge at $30. That let me pick up a third quality RB in Deuce McAllister ($17). I think Deuce is very underrated this season. Yes, he's probably New Orleans' #2 RB in terms of fantasy points, but that doesnt mean he isn't going to get plenty of carries, especially near the end zone.

It's safe to say that my WRs are clearly the best of anyone coming out of the draft, with two top-5 WRs in Steve Smith and Reggie Wayne and a third possible top 10 in Lee Evans.

The rest of my team? Well, I went for people with hopeful upside. Owen Daniels is probably about the 15th best TE on the board, but for a buck that's fine. San Diego's D is pretty good. I'd rather not discuss my QB situation, and frankly I may pick up Michael Vick late in the season just for a sure non-negative score from that position. (Seriously... Losman has some upside and could turn out well, but if he's having a crappy season through week 5 he's $4 in FA money waiting to happen).

Obviously, I have no depth and no way to make up for injuries. If that comes into play in a major way, I'll stink. Oh well.

Best teams: Mine (hey, I'm biased), Slowhand, I like Kyle's team, and Frick could be dangerous if his WRs can sort of produce.

Worst teams: I'm not a big fan of Wolfer's team--those running backs = yeech. Jackhammers has a lot of question marks in my opinion, notwithstanding the three bench guys.

Best buys (bargain division): Chris Chambers ($1), David Garrard ($1), Dominic Rhodes ($1), Jon Kitna ($9) stick out.

Best buys (high-end property): Deuce McAllister ($17), Adrian Peterson (MIN) $14, Santana Moss ($11), Tony Gonzalez ($7).

Buyer's remorse likely: Ronnie Brown ($34), Randy Moss ($19), Baltimore D ($15), Jeremy Shockey ($12), JP Losman ($8), Eli Manning ($15).

JUST to be argumentative, I mean clarifying...

It's safe to say that my WRs are clearly the best of anyone coming out of the draft, with two top-5 WRs in Steve Smith and Reggie Wayne and a third possible top 10 in Lee Evans.

In my rankings, FWIW, I show you with R Wayne at #5, S Smith at #7 and Evans at #14 and M Jones not even breaking into the top 30. My guys, Holt at #3, Williams at #6 and Johnson at #12 with Clayton at #20. Puts us pretty much even at the WR position though I like mine juuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust a shade better. When we factor in TEs as receivers, I take the clear lead with Gonzo at #2 vs O Daniels at #20.

(and with that..let the trash talk begin!)

I like my team, but I am not happy with it. I was first to a full roster and one of the last to actually bid. Being late on checking into the draft (vacation for the first 2-3 days) kind of hurt me, and made me scramble for good players before they disappeared.
I am one of the few people in the world who has faith in Portis. I have him in my RIFC AAA#2 team and this team. This could ruin my fantasy football year, and if it does so be it. I took the risk and the reward could be great.
I am also very very very high on McGahee this year. He's coming to a run first offense with a great O-line and a Defense that will allow him to handle the ball quite frequently. I am surprised pundits/experts/everyone else doesn't see how this is a great upside. Maybe I am crazy this fantasy season?
My other 2 RBs are Adrian Peterson and DeAngelo Williams. I don't know why I got DeAngelo. He was cheaper, and he could be the #1 in Carolina. Other than that I don't know much about him. AP on the other will be good. I kind of see him as the Joseph Addai of the Vikes. Its a young team and young teams usually run the ball, and when you have a good O-line you run the ball well. That's what Minnesota should do, and I hope they do.
I do not like my QB situation. My first order of business is to get $2 back from Leftwich and see if Jack Del Rio wants to give me my other $3 back. Eli for $15 is also bad... I definitely hope I can find something in the waivers.
My WRs are good and have upside. Boldin and Moss are pretty established names and I think they will both recoup from subpar (in their standards) years (Boldin in TDs and Moss overall). Vincent Jackson is all hype right now as he hasn't really done anything to prove he's the star waiting to happen, but he's a 3rd year WR and whats not to love about that. Calvin Johnson will be a stud, as soon as the Lions decide to pencil him into that #2 spot. For now he'll be on my bench until that happens.
I never draft TEs well, so Alge and Kellen will do, and this will do for my explanation of that.
I am a Colts fan, so I see 2 times a year what Jacksonville is capable of. Maybe this is the year they will show everyone else that they are a force on defense. The Falcons are there for a bye week replacement, and in Week 4 they play Houston. I should be getting $2 back from them too.
Kaeding is the kicker in SD and LT scores TDs so someone has to put in the PATs right? Well Kaeding is a kicker and a kicker is a kicker is a...

I don't know who's team I like. I can't analyze this league because either you have a good RB set or a good WR-QB combo. No one stands out as WOW. Look at all the studs he has...
That being said I like Slowhand's team because he has LT.

From the site I was getting my auction values from I did pretty well, except with Eli...

Who wants Leftwich??? :*(

if you want the xls-Version I can send you a mail with it.

any suggestions for pimping the sheet even more?

I probably had my worst auction in 3 years this year. Between work and home I didn't have the time to stay up to date on everything. There were a number of players who I wanted that either expired before I could make a bid or I was never aware of being on the clock. One player that I really wanted went for 1/3 of what I had him worth, but I didn't get to make a higher bid on him.

I still think my team should do well, if my receivers can me something other than god awful and Grossman and T Jackson can some how not completely crap the bed each week (I know that's a stretch) I should do ok.

Beezer's team looks very good, actually it's better than my own according to my projections.

Looking back I think I wish I would have gone with a strategy similar to last years. Load up on great players, but sacrifice one week to afford better players in other weeks.

With all that said Football is probably the sport most likely to involve luck in a good outcome. An injury to a key player can end a season quickly. Good luck to everyone and I can't wait for tonight!

This was by far the most competitive of the 3 auctions that we have had so far, as I didn't see nearly as many extremely overpriced and ultracheap bargains come off the board (with a few exceptions). This particularly became an annoyance when I attempted to pick up a second RB1-level player to round out my roster - in fact, I think Benson and Maroney may still be getting bids.

I'd like to make it through a whole season without my elite RB getting hurt to see if my strategy for this league is actually valid. Obviously, I have my team rated at the top of the list, especially when I added my steal of the draft, Vince Young for $8. $8?!?! He went for the same price as J.P. Losman. What's wrong with you people? :)

Frick's team shows up second on my list, as he's got several of my good value picks at WR to go with an grand larceny-level abduction of Brian Westbrook for $45, which I was so sure was going to be bid up that I didn't bother to check the board again until he had been sold. Well done Frick - if this is your worst auction, we should probably just give you the trophy right now.

The bronze goes to newcomer Scarecrow71, who complemented his great WR combo with a solid running game. I like some of his cheap guys as well, so overall I'd give him high marks especially as a first timer.

I've also learned by this point that youngroman and sarge always outperform their ratings, so I expect to see them competing for a playoff berth again. What's new this year is that I don't see any really bad teams out there, as in the past I'd pretty much mark off 1/3 of the league right off the bat. I think it's a combination of weeding out those not suited to this format and continued evolution of strategy.

With the improvements to the free agency process, this should be the most competitive year ever. Having said that, if I avoid injuries to my money guys, I expect to take the big prize back to the house.

Well I won the league last year and had the best regular season record 2 years ago before losing in the play-offs so I don't have alot of room for improvement.

I agree that VY is the steal of the draft, in this scoring format VY was projected as the 2nd highest QB on my cheat sheet. Since he went for 1/3 of the money that QB ranked 3-8 I would say that is a pretty good buy.

and my recap in RIFC-style:

1. What was your plan/strategy entering the draft? Were you able to execute as you had planned?
don't overpay. try to get as much starting RBs as possible for the money. don't spend too much on any single player to avoid unnecessary risks in case of injury. try to get a backup at each position with a minimum cost. have at least $10 available for free agents.

2. What were your favorite picks? Which do you wish you could do over?
Rudi for $42 and Parker for $35 are good value picks in my opinion. not really my favorites, but close.

3. Looking over all of the teams, which ones do you like the most (other than your own)?
dwetzel and Kyle are looking strong at RB/WR. but as some experts note, a draft in fantasy football is only worth 40 percent, so there much room for others to improve with their remaing money.

4. What surprised you most about the draft?
how quick it went at some times. it was not easy for me to keep track. that is one reason why the beautiful sheet got created. I had no time at work (until 1pm) to follow the draft and I had no time after I went to bed (7pm).

5. If you could start over, would you do anything differently?
not much. perhaps plan my holidays better to be able to stay at home for the final 2 or 3 weeks of August. that would have helped in RIFC too.

additional notes
all in all I am satisfied with my team and only the regular season will show us the truth. I am heading to bed in a few minutes to be ready for the season opener at 2:30am local time.

all the best to everybody, but only as long as I win.
