As we head into the playoff season, it appears that only Red and Eville have locked up playoff berths. I ran several scenarios to figure that out!
The rules are top 1-6 are placed by win/loss record. Places 7/8 are by points for, so there is a definite race going on.
Since Team 13 is not eligible for the Playoffs, we will have 5 teams in the consolation. What do we want to do? I think we need to decide BEFORE we know who we are -- to be fair.
Here are two possible consolation playoff scenarios -- both involve byes. 1) Give a bye to #1 seed. #2 plays #5; #3 plays #4 2) Give byes to #1-3. #4 plays #5 for the final #4 slot.
Please place your thoughts here so we can have a meaningful dialogue and come to a (Quakerly) consensus. I would like to make the decision BY WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 28th -- Dallas vs GB is Thursday the 29th .
All team managers should participate in the discussion -- not just those of us at the bottom!
Thanks.

Regarding Player Drop/Adds:
There are specific RIFC rules limiting player Drop/Adds for the playoffs. I will look them up and let you know. AOL does not automatically block those transactions. You have to monitor yourself or I get to write you a nasty note and make you change it back...

FOUND IT!
Playoff roster limitations: Players at the primary skill positions (QB, RB, WR) and team defenses may not be added for any reason during the playoffs. Free agents at these positions will be locked out after the final regular season game. You may drop a player at one of these positions, but once dropped, that player cannot be added later.
Players at the other positions (TE, PK, IDP) may be added or dropped according to normal regular season guidelines, subject to playoff claiming priorities, if applicable.
Teams which are not still active in the Championship playoffs may not make any transactions - adds or drops - even if they are still competing in the Consolation bracket.

#146 BoNkA, I think my other team scored few enough points that you would have beaten that lineup also. I cannot check from work. I was not sure which 3rd string RB to start so I split them. Sorry!!! (from previous thread)
I vote for option 1) above. More teams playing that week. Or a 3rd option is to include the last team in Championship playoffs also in consolation bracket. But 4 teams is certainly easier than 6.

Okay, here's my .02 for the consolation bracket:
In a normal year, the loser with the highest point total becomes the "4th seed" in week 15. Why can't we have the top 4 in points in week 14 advance, with the person who has the highest score becomes the 1 seed and so on? This way, there will be no byes.

I totally forgot how the playoffs worked last year, but I know we each played each week. Now I see how 6 teams became 4 -- the high point loser --> fourth seed. Clever!
For your #7 option, how would we set that up as competition? Would I just set teams against each other (I guess I would need to add in Team 13 to get the competition even.) and then reset the next round based on points? The commish page for playoff scenarios won't let me even look at options until the season is over! I am pretty sure that I can manually do anything.
I am not near my home computer now, but will send a league email later today asking teams to consider your option. It is a very clever one!

Option #3 (Wolfer) Play three head to head matches but qualifiers will be those with the most points NOT THE MATCHUP WINNERS, ranked #1 to #4 to set the semifinals on Weekend 15. (Note, we would add Team 13 to this to make an even match).

For the consolation playoffs, we will have only five teams competing so we are trying to figure out what to do! (With six teams it is already predetermined.)

Team 13 is not eligible for playoffs, due to manager defaulting and a transfer to a neutral one midseason, so we have an uneven number for playoffs. See #1, 7 and 11 for some options.

Alternatively we could just track the all-play record for non playoff teams during the playoff weeks. Basically the 5 teams would be playing each other every week of the playoffs. Whoever comes out on top wins. I really don't care how this is handled to be honest, as long as the teams are still active til the end of the season. Winning the toilet bowl in the AA league probably isn't high up on the list for most people :D

I won the consolation championship last year and on championship weekend, my team had a higher total point score than either of the two teams in the Championship final.
It made my season!

It's all in good fun and having nothing to play for is definitely no fun at all. I was just trying to say that as long as there's something in place, that's all that matters. It doesn't matter to me what we choose to use, in the end, all the teams will still be active and squeezing out what fun is left of fantasy football season :D
After reading Wolfer's idea, that is fine with me. I'll be on board for whatever is most popular however, as long as we pick something.

Also, AOL has not yet added Bigby's points. I believe he should have 4.5 insteadof 0.0. If it is not fixed by Tuesday am, I will do an override.

Well, I think the Eagles exposed some weaknesses in the Patriots that hopefully another team will exploit for a win. It will be great fun to see what happens at QB. Andy Reid has already said that Donovan is the starter, but both Garcia last year and Feeley this year (and a few years ago) run this offense better than McNabb...

Where did this come from?
WILD FINISH!
Basically, fighting for the 2 playoff point spots (although Thunder Bunnies could bypass this thru better W/L total than Swinganamiss this week).
Thunder Bunnies 12-12 3055.34 Bonka Bombers 8-16 ?? 3032.86 Toral Wheatfarmers ! 10-14 3025.64! Rusty Stone 10-14 2996.54
WTF! Where did those points come from? 381+ points? I finally had my big week; every time I watched an update it seemed one of my players had just scampered into the endzone. I've been telling myself for weeks, "Keep plugging, you still have a chance at a playoff spot" [which is basically a self-deceiving moralism] -- and it actually came true.
I hope this doesn't come across as gloating because I'm not. I went in to take a cursory glance at the standings and set my roster and saw this!
Now I really have to think about everything this week! Not only starters, but adjusting my roster for an (improbable) trip to the playoffs! Unbelievable.
Toral
Good luck to all, and thanx in advance for a great season.

I think this says a lot about how fantasy football is mostly luck regarding who you play what week unless you lucked into an extremely strong team from the draft (pretty impossible to know who's going to have the best seasons):
Team - wins - losses - PF - PA Psychos 13 11 3068.02 3228.90 Thunder Bunnies 12 12 3055.34 3173.02 Bonka Bombers 8 16 3032.86 3294.90
All of us have roughly the same PF. PA is also somewhat close, but there's a pretty big difference in the records for sure.

See post #21. My team has been shredded by injuries. I have one healthy true RB, 1 maybe healthy WR. My team Def stink; I will depend on my IDP this week to try and pass for the 7/8 spot.
I play E'ville and Toral.

Looks like 3 more teams might get to 14 wins -- Psychos, Swing, TB.
That will create a nice competition for spots 7/8. It looks like spot #6 might come down to points as well.

I see two choices for the consolation playoffs:
IDEA #1: (WOLFER'S IDEA POST #7) On week 14, we play for total points only (I will set up dummy matchups of one game, but only the total points will count.) Lowest point total is out. On week 15 (semis) #1 plays #4, #2 plays #3. Matches are head to head winner moves on. On week 16 (finals), winners and losers play head to head for places first and third.
IDEA#2: (BONKA'S IDEA POST #17 Each team plays one game each weekend in a dummy matchup. The only thing that matters is TOTAL POINTS, which will be summed up each week. The team with the most points at the end of week 16 is the conso winner! This way, everyone is still in it until the very end.
I need a VOTE by every manager, not just those of us heading for the conso playoffs...

1. Vote: #1 (Wolfer)
2. I will say that I view this late charge as a vindication of my strategy of picking up and holding, like, 15 backup running backs. Lots of injuries at RB this week so I just went to Fargas and Kolby Smith. NP. My draft may have been totally screwed up, but I think this is a sound strategy.
davepyro: I'm not anyone to be giving advice really but remind me at the end of the season to give you free advice (worth what you pay) on initial roster composition. At the time of the draft I believe you wondered why people were picking up so many RBs.

A note on claiming order for the playoffs, subject to the rules listed in #3:
Also, claiming/waiver priorities will be reset one last time. Following the final regular season game, priorities will be reset based on playoff seed, with the top seed getting the top priority. Thereafter, throughout the playoffs, priorities will again adjust only when a claim is awarded.
If you are in the consolation round, your lineup is frozen at the monday night game and you cannot make any changes for the conso playoffs -- so plan ahead...

Donkey -- good luck with Hester -- i never knew when to start him as they only use him as a KOR/PR. Except, of course, in the Eagles game where his catches in the last 1:37 won the Bears th game. The Bears really do need to find another way to get him on the field next year...
Now I deal with Leon Washington who is a good KOR/PR too, but they don't use him at RB.
Sigh.

I vote #1 anyway. Sorry I have not been around. I even missed the FA draft. Wednesday a week ago I was given one week to order a container of consumer fireworks from China in one week for the first time. I spent 89 hours on it and finished 11:30pm on Tuesday and missed the draft. The order was accepted and now I can goof off. I changed a setting on my Internet tools and lost all my remembered passwords - do not do that!! Good luck to everyone in playoffs. I have a very good time playing with you all no matter what happens from here on out. Good luck!!
#28 Toral, That has always been the strategy in every draft I have been in, but it seemed people were taking the 4th and 5th RB when I was think ing my 2nd would be there. And of course both my #1 and #2 RB were injured, and my #2 WR a bust, and my #3WR injured. Oh well, next year I am getting a QB in first round!! You did see both my QB scores for last week??

Messing with some points -- some points not yet earned by players..., I see these races for 5 / 6 / 7 / 8 among:
Swing (with 1 win (13-13) or 2 wins (14-12), gets at least a #5 seed ~ 3503 points -- maybe higher...)
For 6th place...depends on W/L first then total points tie breaker TBunnies (13-13 ~ 3317) Psychos (14-12?? or 13-13??~ 3138 points)
For 7/8 (total points for only) TBunnies (13-13 ~ 3317) Toral (10-16 ~ 3289) Rusty 12-14 ~ 3277) Bonka (8-18 ~ 3266) Psychos (13-13 ~ 3138)
Correct me if I am wrong...or if the games tonight and tomorrow change these...

It looks like Red, Slow, DH, ED are in. Then:
Psychos (if he gets to 14-12 ~ 3138 ) Swing 13-13 ~3495 TBunnies 13-13 ~3316 Toral 10-16 ~3282 Rusty 12-14 ~ 3274 Bonka (9-17??? ~ 3242 with Maroney and Watson on Monday...)
So, if Psychos gets win #14, he is seed #5. If he splits or loses both, he drops down to the conso round due to point totals. Swing gets #6, TB #7 and either Toral or Bonka get #8.
If Psychos loses, he goes to the conso, and Swing is #5, TB is #6, then it is Toral, Rusty and Bonka for #7 and 8.
I know who I am rooting against tomorrow night!

So the playoff seeds are:
1. The Red Scorpions 2. Donkey Hunters 3. Slowhand 4. E'ville Destiny 5. Psychos 6. SwinganaMiss 7. Thunder Bunnies 8. Toral Wheatfarmers
Can't believe how close Judi and I were for the last slot. So many things could have went a little differently. I personally blame the Pats for not playing Maroney one week I had him started, that big 0 for both games hurts pretty bad now.
Looks like the winners for highest PA (most unlucky!) are:
1. Bonka Bombers 3562.66 2. Slowhand 3506.74 3. Psychos 3488.70
Highest PF:
1. Scorpians 3956.72 2. Team 13 3764.60 3. Slowhand 3634.28
Good luck to those actually playing for something still. The wait til next season begins yet again.

psychos if you see this, I just noticed your lineup is still invalid for today (7 IDPs and only 2 receivers)

dror - I will override with WR Williams ( 4:15 game --only WR available) and delete the 8:15 IDP Pierce. Hope that is OK for you.
Thanks for noticing to keep the league going!

Well, the Lions allready screwed me once earlier this year with the huge Kevin Curtis game, but this is realy something else... Sproles with 12 career carries untill this morning, and 25 today. unbeleiveble.
I'm gonna need an IDP miracle now, or the #1 seed is going out in the semis.

I'm sure judy appreciated Westbrook's nobility in forgoing a TD.

I'll take an Eagles win over Dallas ANYTIME, esp since TO was PO'd. I just wonder who thought of stopping at the goal line? It was a brilliant move. (Remember the Chicago game??? We scored and then they scored with 1:37 left to beat us.)
My FFBall team is too injured to go any further... the 6 points would not have made any difference, and as I noted, the weather did not help my guys. Bonka's got a 40 point lead with three guys left and I have one crappy WR to play.
Nice job Bonka! You are welcome for Colston!
I sure hope that Westbrook makes the pro Bowl. I also hope the Eagles do not dump McNabb -- the last thing we need next year is either Feely or a rookie QB.
I'm still rooting for the old guy -- Favre.

Yeah, Colston was a huge pickup for me, that's why I tried trading for him, even if you didn't like the trade so much. In hindsight you probably were better off taking the trade, but I'm not about to go look up the actual numbers. Despite that, my team still stunk most of the year. Figures it wakes up now for the playoffs, only I'm fighting for a toilet bowl win rather than the actual championship. Oh well, try again next year, like always :D
Glad to see my Phins pick up a win and not have to face a winless season.

God that was close.... 1 point for Ogunleye, and I just sat there and watched Hester and Henderson racking up points for Donkey Hunter. I can't believe anyone would kick to Hester but the Vikes kept him in check.

just for the heck of it, I will set a lineup for this weekend's games and try to see how many points I can get.
Anyone else interested in the challenge?

I really blew that game. Started Edwards over Big Ben. I rode Ben all season long then benched him in the playoffs. I also had to pick up a kicker off the waiver wire and managed to get one who scored 0 points for me. There were 6 kickers on waivers I could have picked up that would have won the matchup for me. But really I overthought things and benched Ben cuz I thought Cleveland Buffalo was going to be a shootout then went on vacation before seeing a weather report. I am gonna regret that decision until next season starts.

Guess I started the wrong QB and cost myself the win this week, unless Cutler pulls a huge game out of his butt.

Yeah Cutler just stunk it up, oh well.
And yeah, you had a 14 point difference, I'm sitting at 25 right now. That's fantasy football for ya, hah.

Well the AOL system is still down, but I am betting that Slowhand held on for the win! The winner goes directly to RIFC for next year and all players in the championship round are eligible for AAA nect year. Watch the Rotoguru thread in early July for notices.
It has been a pleasure working with all of you. Best wishes for a Happy New year. I hope to be a commish again next year -- in AAA if there is room, AA if there is not. I might send you an email invite in July so be on the look out!

Thanks for a great season everyone; it was great competition especially the playoffs.
A special thanks to judy for being one of the best commissioners I've ever been in a league with...you did a great job and I really appreciate the effort on our leagues behalf.
Thanks again to everyone.

Congratulations to slowhand on a fine win. It was quite a fun year. My draft was terrible (Jon Kitna? What was I thinking?) but I had a lot of fun anyway but with the weekly waiver wire mob scrambles and my exciting late upsurge to make the playoffs (only to be rightfully slaughtered in the 1st round).
And I had made a mental note that I wanted to post re this league at end of year. To say this: judy, I have played under many commissioners, including the Guru himself; and you this year have been the best commissioner I ever played under in any sport.
I would be happy to play with any of youse again. If you have to get whupped, better to get whupped by gentlemen and ladies....

Judy: I wish I could say I had a great time but that would not be the case. My team sucked balls. In my other league I finished at the opposite end from this one so I know it wasnt all me....although probably mostly me. At any rate you did a fabulous job and should be commended for it. Guru would be very lucky to have you commish another league next year.

Don't get too down on yourself weykool, or at least know you're not alone. I was excited after starting off the season 4-0, then my excitement was killed and the rest wasn't much fun when I dropped to 4-6 then 8-18. I was right down there with you :D
