0 Subject: 2008 Survivor Playoff Challenge

Posted by: Shak
- [526391622] Sun, Dec 30, 2007, 23:52

Welcome to the 2008 Survivor Playoff Challenge. The scoring rules will be the same as Survivor with the exception of the D/ST. The D/ST scoring is 6 points for a TD, two points for any turnovers/safties, and 1 point for each sack. All entrants may submit up to two teams. Each team will select a lineup each week using one of the following formations:

Pro Formation……1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 DEF/ST

Three Wide………1 QB, 1 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 DEF/ST

Full House………..1 QB, 3 RB, 1 WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 DEF/ST

Run and Shoot…..1 QB, 1 RB, 4 WR, 1 K, 1 DEF/ST

Each team may use a player only once, i.e. if LT is one of your RBs this weekend, you may not use him again, even if SD reaches the SB. Email your entries to me or post them on this thread prior to kickoff Saturday. I will post everyone's entry ASAP after kickoff.

The entry fee is $10 per team and must be paid prior to the 2nd weekend games. Entry fees can be paid via Paypal to shakj@yahoo.com. For snail mail, send me an email. Anyone that submits a team and does not pay will be blacklisted from any future leagues for all of eternity. Get those entries in!

Shak I need all the help I can get. I think, I've proved with two teams you can finish in a high position with both, 1st and 3rd last year. That proves I'm either a fantasy genius or your odds just go up with the more teams you have.

Funny the old 488th Intel squardron boys won most of the money this year in Survivor, Cobb, JHHH and me...must be 10 straight years of picking each others brains.

Well, I see much hasn't changed. Ed is still talking smak, well earned smak I will admit. Ted is back for the playoffs again. JHHH is back again as well. But things have changed a little.

Scotty isn't here raving about the Bucknuts, probably total concentration on that. Joe isn't here to abuse Ed from Kosovo. Tim isn't here either.

I have been out of the rotation for quite awhile, so be gentle like Ed was:o)

Hey guys, sorry I have been silent as of late. Not sure if I will be doing the playoffs this year, with school and a crappy US based job, little slow with the cash flow guys. But at the same time I dont think I have the balls or the 'life' to stay away from you guys in fantasy football;) In the morning I will make my final decision I guess.

Pats, perfect season and lose in the SB:)
That will be history, and justice!

Kinda surprised with the amount of people that took Roethlisberger in this game. I wanted no part in this game, however I figured Miller was a safe pick. But who really knows, I didnt think that collins would outscore Hasselbeck. I guess thats the beauty of having two teams.

IMO there was no clearcut favorite QB to play this week, I thought Hass would have the better chance of scoring, but things will play out differently in the playoffs then the regular season. I guess Seattle Defense and Collins is are the big scorers from game 1.

Some pretty interesting games last night. How about that Seattle D?? Pretty impressive. I wasn't too surprised by that outcome, just how good their D looked. As usual for this season, Alexander looked terrible. Very odd season for him, glad I wasn't picking first this year.

I didn't see the Jack/Pitt game, but no real shocker there either. I couldn't call that game from the start.

Tonight's games are about the same, well except for the San Diego game. Should be walkover there. I think the Giants will pull it out, but it will be close. I hope Jacobs has an outstanding game as he is on both of my teams.

You missed out on a really good game last night. I thought Tomlin had made a rookie mistake. Al Michaels pointed out that after Pittsburgh scored a TD with 10.5 minutes left in the game, Tomlin made a good decision to go for two to bring them within 3. Ward made a great catch for the 2 points, but there was a phantom holding call on the play. Now the ball is on the 12 yard line. The sensible play is to just go ahead and kick the extra point with so much time left on the clock. For those that play poker, you have to know the pot odds are not in your favor and you fold.

Instead they go for two again and Ben comes up short. They are now down by two and when they score their next TD, they are forced to go for 2 again to put them up 3. They fail again and now Jax is only down a point. Had Tomlin decided to just kick the first extra point, they would have had a 3 point lead and everything would have been different in the last two minutes.

Jax would have probably still won, but the reason that decision burns me up so bad is because I bet on Jax giving 2.5 points. I lost the stinking bet by a half point!

3-0 titans now, the game is still so young so no reason to be worried but I really hope the chargers pull this one out. As great as LT is, and as modest as he acts during interviews, and for the most part on the field, I cant stand listening to him whine after they lose games. He acts like a five year old finding out there is no santa, or my ex-wife crying about me beating her. Each time he does that i like him just a little less. Speaking of which, has anyone even heard from Craig Sanders this year? Ok, gotta go now, Young just went down, but he'll be back Im sure....

No one just walks over Tennessee..thye will play SD the very end. SD has no excuse about winning this game, don't get me started on those players that only play for the money, If you can't get motivated in a playoff game then you got some problems.

Shak on Tomlin going for the 2 points from the 12 yardline after the the holding call was just bad coaching, I guess you learn by your mistakes..chalk that one up to being a rookie head coach. I guess you never fully are mistake free, remember when Gibbs calls a TO late in the game when he had none.

I rolled the dice with Moss this week hoping to get something big from him tonight, trying to catch up with the neck, and I assumed most people would wait to use him until later. The dice suck!

YEah I played to step on everyones neck and get a big lead, but that looks like it failed and it's anyones ballgame. Moss was used as a decoy last night, I watched Brady and he never even looked Moss's way very often, it was a quick read and 5-8 yards down the field for Brady. Them's the breaks and I'm sure Moss will light it up next week. Good luck!

the chargers had two int's and one fumble recovery. SHould be 6 rather then 4 points for my D.

With the exception of the moss pick, Ednecks seems to be making all the right moves. I know his final roster, or think I do, so I guess I gotta make some radical changes this coming week in order to make up some room. But even with two weeks left, 50 points may be to much to overcome...

I think if the Neck can manage to piece together a lineup of starters for the next two weeks, he will be tough to beat. Most of us have NE players left, so it is those who have the other players open on their roster who stand a chance.

KK and JHHH are close enough to win easy. The other's might have a hard time catching up. As long as I have Brady, MAroney, Welker, Watson, and a few other NE players then I should finish in the top 3 as long as I play them the right week, do I save them for the SB or use them now?. It's the other teams players that will make the difference. I've already used Grant, JAcobs adn LT, so if you have them left and are within reach then you can make up some points. I think the people that were hoping to use Addai, Barber, P. Manning, Owens, Witten, Clark,Romo and Crayton later in the contest got slapped in the face, use them while you can I say!!! NE was the only safe bet in the playoffs and it's not when you play a player, but when you do play him he scores the most points...case in point Moss's 1.5 points will hurt me because he will score more then that now!

That's why it's so quiet on this board, I mean I can close my eyes and score better then Shak's last place 127 points. When I'm in the lead, it a time to celebrate and talk the talk as long as I'm walking the walk. Give me 2 teams and I'll make one of them work...My chances just increased by 50%, unless your Shak who's chances only increase with 10 teams :-)

Joe, when choices are made it's never purely luck. Luck is what happens on a slot machine Win and that just means you got on the machine at the right time. You and the rest of the boys had the same choices as me and according to you, you were just unlucky. I guess you better put a four leaf clover in your pocket and hope for the best. At least there is finally someone to talk to on here. For the sake of argument I will, oh hell nevermind, dont have it in me right now. No, Im not taking anything away from what you are doing here. You know your football, I cant say any different. Just saying luck is a huge factor, before you jump down my throat, im not talking about your picks, im talking about the Cowboys and Colts losing and all the players left on the board never being used by 80 percent of us. Before the game started I was trying to determine if I was gonna pick Brady or Manning next week. Guess Im shooting for Volek now huh? A second string QB and third string RB taking down the colts, you cant say that is anymore more then a fluke, and may I say, dumb luck for the leader...I can say that I am happy I Used Wayne when I did and pi$$ed I wasted moss. But at the same time Moss could have just as eaily gotten me 30 points in that game, so is it my mistake or just bad luck that led to him getting me 1.5 points?

This isnt jealousy or taking away what you are doing (not sure why I feel the need to repeat myself here). I won the playoffs once, and that was due to my stubborness, more then anything else. I knew in my heart the Eagles would make it to the SB, and had a whole eagle team with the exception of won patriot on my roster. If they would have lost I would have had a pretty weak team stacked with Falcons. Although I would have still had a starting QB, which is more then some people could say.

And your slot machine theory sounds good, but no matter what time you take a seat at the slot machine, it is still lucky if you win, no matter how long you have been watching that old lady drop quarters into the machine. But it sounded good

Joe I talk so much nonsense you will never know when I'm speaking the truth or just talking out my A-hole. JHHH and Tedward will know me the best, and can weed through the BS, you think you know when I'n BS'ing but you don't really. JHHH and Myself have done so many drafts together during the Football week in this same format for 2 dollars during the night that it had to have made a difference...Look how well he's done this year. Am I better then the rest of you, I must have a good system otherwise I wouldn't have won it twice in the last 3 years and winning this year. Lucky, sure some of the time, did I know that Indy and Dallas would lose, No, I thought the only safe team in this playoffs was NE and the rest of the games would be somewhat close. I knew that SD would play Indy tough, but normally Manning scores when he's inside the 20 to win the game.

I must be pretty lucky, I joined Shak's league LMSCL three years ago and took over a pretty average team with no RB's and have made the SB each and every year and won it once..Lucky?

Don't even get me started on Baseball, just ask Buddy, Scotty and Mike I'm very lucky in those leagues too!!

I've heard it all my life growing up, on the golf course, Bowling alley, Baseball field, Football field, racketball court, Ping-pong table...you just got lucky I'll beat you next time...I don't win everytime and I've never been the best at anything, but I could play everything rather well for being a 5'10 slow white boy.

Now since the knees are shot, the heart is damaged and the hair is getting a little thin I still got to hear I'm just lucky!

He He..I just love playing and when I'm winning I'm a nightmare to live with, but I back it up most of the time, except in a league I've played with JHHH for 10 year and we both have never won it. Something is wrong with that league believe me!!

Ok, two things. Philip Rivers is making it really hard for me to root for the Chargers this week. But at the same time, in the 24 hrs ESPN network era, his actions are just being exploited for ratings. The announcers also noted that Brett Favre and Brady don’t act that way. Maybe not to that extreme, but I have seen both of them talk trash, plus the golden boy Brady doesn’t use a condom, so how is that for a role model? Therefore, I will take all the anti-charger propaganda with a grain of salt. Secondly, anyone hear Stallworth talking about kidnapping LT and a couple other Patriot players this week so they cant play in the AFC title game? During the interview he asked if anyone wanted to help him do it and he emphasized that he is serious about doing it. We all know that he was joking around, or really dumb. Either way, if I was LT, I would request a restraining order against Stallworth, which may result in Stallworth missing the game. Just one less wide receiver to worry about. I’m obviously joking here, just thinking outside of the box. But I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets a fine for saying that.

From my exprience's with trash talkers, it's part of the game to an extent, always has been and alway will. Some are just big jerks about it like Rivers. Favre always says stuff like I thought you hit harder then that and is joking around. The difference is that Rivers makes it personal, taking about choking and probably a few verbal jabs about somebodies Momma.

It's harmless, And you are right they are buidling up Rivers as a bad guy for some reason, how many times do we see, the ball being spinned after a first down and pointing towards the Endzone. Can you imagine what goes on in the trenches with the Big men, a lot of nasty stuff being said in there...Just part of the game, nobody worst then Dierdorf when he played.

I may have a team in last, but if it wasn't for me, Mikey would really look silly. At least my A team is ahead of one of Ed's teams.

The over/under for both games are creeping down. Doesn't look like the weather is going to allow for much offense. Certainly gives the advantage to Ed to retain his lead.

Shak we are tied at 180...not ahead. Like I said before saving players for the later rounds is a risky system. I guess it could have made a difference. I'd rather be in the front, then trying to catch up. Hey you gamble and hope it works out...I think the correct strategy was to save enough NE players for the SB and hope that you have a few guys off the other team to make a difference. I think as long as I can get Brady, Welker, Watson, NE, Goskowski and Driver into the SB I'll be fine!!

Here are my lineups. I am relying on the Pats winning and having both of my teams have a full lineup for the Superbowl. Again, saving players, but with their season it stands to reason that they will make it. I am sure a lot of you are doing the same, so I just might make some changes later tonight. Statistically the Superbowl isn't a fantasy owners delight for points, so it will be more of who can field a team to get points on the board and hold the lead.

I think this might be the week the Pats pull out all of the stops. Rivers is playing well, but can he stand the pressure or will he be a Big Ben when gametime comes?

Being over 100 points back isn't impossible, but near enough, especially with the players you all still have available.

Hey, I like R. Bush.

I just turned the game on and saw Brady throw the int. Judging from the stats, it is a poor game on both sides. I expected FG's from the Chargers, but I did expect to see more out of Brady.

Are they waiting for the second half to turn it up? Someone call them and let them know they are into it already.

I am not trying to preach like I am a Pats fan, but after the phenominal season, this is uncharacteristic. Hell of a time for a meltdown. I was expecting it to happen in the Superbowl against Green Bay!! Gonna be a COLD one there tonight!!

what a D-Bag! Fall on the ball green bay, dont be a damn hero.

I remember last week, i think simms was mocking a kicker because he didnt fall on a loose ball. He said, "i guess punters dont practice recovering fumbles" os something like that because the kicker tried to pick the ball up and run with it rather then fall on it.

Ok, this brings up two issues, first of all, most players, regardless of the position do the same thing. And secondly, I get pissed hearing these guys talking crap on kickers all the time. I get it, they arent real FOOTball players, but I bet Jay feely could kick Dan Marinos arse. Ok, im done.

Ok, one more thing, that 'holding penalty' that took the TD away from Bradshaw was the second time in two weeks that a borderline, or phantom penalty has taken a TD away from me (see Chargers int return for td wiped out due to BS holding last week) I want 12 more points, plus the Bradshaw yards!

My lineup next week will be:

Brady, Faulk, Bradshaw, Welker, Burress, Watson, NE and Godkowski...Average at best, but should be enough to hang on for the win again, and again and again!! I think JHHH will be the closest, but I think he will be hurting to field a team in the SB.

I guess no sense waiting. Here's my lineups:

Shak 1
Brady
Maroney
Faulk
Moss
Stallworth
Boss
NE
Gostkowski

Shak 2 (All Pats Lineup)
Brady
Maroney
Faulk
Moss
Welker
Watson
NE
Gostkowski

By my count, 10 teams will start Brady and 6 Eli. Three have already used both.

Teams that have used the following players:

Maroney: 4
R Moss: 12
Welker: 12
Watson: 9

Jacobs: 19
Burress: 12
Toomer: 9

I guess that means we'll be seeing a lot of Maroney, none of Jacobs, and a little bit of each of the WRs.

The opening line was NE -12.5 and 53.5o. I think both of those will climb.

I really can't see anyone winning but me, JHHH or KK..Ted a long shot. I would say that KK has the best chance since he will have quite a few different players then mine. JHHH just doesn't have enough WR's left to win, I guess if Stallworth, Gaffney or Smith are the big scorers of the week than he could win.

This will be 2 years in a row I've lead from start to finish if I win. That Lucky Rabbits foot tattoo works pretty damn good!

If you have time, you guys really need to read this piece on Rick Neuheisel and the U of Washington 2000 team. It's really, really disturbing. One of the most sadly emotional articles I've ever read. Let me know your thoughts.

Hey it just goes to show how powerful Sports in America has become, I can relate to some of this looking the other way and making exceptions to the rule breakers or just down right criminals in Washingtons case. Being a University of Kentucky Basketball fan and former student, I could see first hand how the players were treated as gods and couldn't go anywhere on campus without a crowd of fans leaning on their every actions and words. If a guy with suspect character gets that kind of attention they think thay can get away with murder, It's just crazy that those Huskie players could avoid jail time until after the season was over. I have no doubt that looking the other way by the police or coaches is a commen occurrance at most Universities, Right or wrong it's big bussiness and your devotion to the team may cloud your better judgement.

If I was a cop and say Lebron James was at UK and I caught him speeding and under the influence, I may let him slide if we were playing Florida that week.

I just did a quick update of the spreadsheet. Take a good look at it. Here's what I came up with:

Ed 399.5
Kris 383.5
Jon 370

What did I say the payouts were? I can't find the post/email. I may have it at work.

Unless there's serious objections, this will be the payout:

1st $120
2nd $50
3rd $20
